Hi everyone,

Just looking for ideas!
Since the world is in such a strange place...I want to do something special to make our families smile!

Obviously our gender reveal cant be done in person, so I'm looking for some ideas of how to announce the gender?

I was thinking of something with pumpkins with Halloween coming but any ideas would be fab!!

Thank you xx

Oh dear OP, you will offend the trans rights activists with that! They will insist that your fetus should choose its own gender, not have it “assigned” before or at birth.
Perhaps you should more accurately call it a sex reveal, as no human can change sex, and it has nothing to do with gender identity.

bluemoon2468 · 03/10/2020 15:36

@Babdoc haha I was about to come on and say 'cue the sex not gender' crew...

Maybe on zoom ask everyone to carve a pumpkin with their guess (they can be as creative as they like) then reveal your carved pumpkin with the answer?

peachypetite · 03/10/2020 15:41

Don’t make work for other people. Just send a video of you cutting into a cupcake or something if you really want to.

JudyGemstone · 03/10/2020 15:50

Honestly, except for parents and grandparents no-one really cares

bluemoon2468 · 03/10/2020 15:57

@JudyGemstone speak for yourself! Although I really hope that wasn't the case for you! I personally chose not to do a gender/sex reveal but I have loads of friends and family members who are desperate to know and are constantly messaging me with their predictions and saying they can't wait to find out!

PeachesTheFlamingo · 03/10/2020 15:59

Order a dark coloured balloon, a gold/silver pen and some pink or blue confetti.

Stuff the balloon with the relevant confetti. Blow it up, write "girl or boy" on the balloon.

Then record a video clip of you popping the balloon. Cheap and effective.

Or you can pay a bit more and order a gender reveal balloon online.

There are loads of different variations.. a PP has mentioned cutting into a cake with blue or pink coloured sponge.

Not sure what you could do with a pumpkin though. Maybe make a pumpkin shaped cake if you're crafty enough? Orange coloured icing/frosting on the outside and blue/pink sponge on the inside.

firstimemamma · 03/10/2020 16:02

We told people the sex of the baby by sending scratch cards to close family, which they enjoyed scratching to reveal a blue circle with the words 'it's a boy!' or something.

We found them from not on the high street, think they were a fiver each.

backinthebox · 03/10/2020 16:04

This is what happens when every aspect of someone’s life has to be stylishly showcased on Instagram I suppose. It must be exhausting just keeping up with it all. Honestly, most people just want you to say ‘we are having a girl/boy/surprise/prefer not to say.’ If that.

ScrumptiousBears · 03/10/2020 16:10

We just told people. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ned2021 · 03/10/2020 16:11

@backinthebox im not quite sure that was the advice/suggestion she was quite after...
If she wants to make a big song and dance about it, then there is nothing wrong with that.. its an exciting time...

She didnt even mention instagram!!! 🤬

Totally agree

otterbaby · 03/10/2020 16:13

People are so bloody miserable on here. I've never known anything like it.

Just quickly googled - you could carve out the inside of a normal sized pumpkin, paint one of those mini pumpkins either blue or pink and hide it inside the big pumpkin. Then pull it out and surprise! I personally am not that keen on the blue/pink thing so might just write boy or girl in nice writing on the baby pumpkin.

Babdoc · 03/10/2020 16:18

Tend to agree, Backinthebox. I didn’t find out the sex of either of my two DC - preferred a surprise. It would have seemed like opening a present before Christmas to see what it was! Plus I was working full time as a hospital doctor and far too tired to want to host a party. And the nearest relatives were 250 miles away - I bet they’d have been really thrilled at a 500 mile round trip just to be told which genitals my fetus had!
But it all seems to be a big thing these days, with cakes and parties etc. Fair enough- it would be a dull world if we all liked the same things!

MichelleOR84 · 03/10/2020 16:30

I feel bad for you OP! Some of these comments are just rude !! 🙄

I absolutely love gender/sex reveals! I think they are so much fun and I don’t associate them with social media or being stylish 🤔! They might not be everyone’s cup of tea but the negative comments are completely uncalled for .

What about Halloween cupcakes with the colour inside revealing the sex ?

CakeGirl2020 · 03/10/2020 16:38

Some miserable sods on here.

If it’s your thing OP, still do the gender reveal. A few women I know have filmed them and the DH bursting a balloon with labels of boy/girl inside and putting it on social media/ sending to family and close friends.

I believe you can scratch cards too

littlefireseverywhere · 03/10/2020 16:40

Bah humbug here too....can’t you wait until it’s born? Or does no one do that anymore?

Snufkins · 03/10/2020 16:45

Why waste money. As someone already said, except for family nobody really cares and it’ll be forgotten about a few hours later.

bluemoon2468 · 03/10/2020 16:47

OP didn't ask anyone their opinion on finding out the sex. She asked for reveal ideas. Why do people feel like they have a right to comment on whether other people choose to find out or not? 🤷🏼‍♀️ If you want a surprise that's absolutely fine, but don't push your preference onto other people and act like it's somehow superior 🤨

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/10/2020 16:47

Urgh. I have these things.

"Its a boy"
Everyone "yay!"

"Its a girl"
Everyone "yay!"

Ned2021 · 03/10/2020 16:48

Perhaps she doesnt want to wait until its born! Its your choice to wait... its hers not too...
Ffs!

022828MAN · 03/10/2020 16:49

This is so 2020, it's depressing...

MichelleOR84 · 03/10/2020 16:52

@littlefireseverywhere I didn’t find out the sex . Guess what ? I still love gender/sex reveal parties 🤷‍♀️

Luce89 · 03/10/2020 16:54

My god some people need to go back to primary school and learn that if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all! The OP has asked for ideas, not to be torn a new one. Some people on here think only their opinion is the right one! For those people saying no one cares, you are wrong! I like watching gender reveals on YouTube of people I don't even know 😂

OP I like the scratch card idea too, my sister in law bought us all one a few months ago and sent them through to post.

022828MAN · 03/10/2020 16:56

Dear God, really?!

Inkpaperstars · 03/10/2020 17:02

What is the gender?
