Oh looks like @Zaalfruit might be in hospital or maybe in labour 🤞 @FourPlasticRings my baby is back to back dues that usually mean they are late then? Scan on Fri in hospital and Sat he was. @BntTowers as soon as seen your post I got off the couch and onto the ball. It's raining and windy here but I'm walking (approx 20 mins) to meet mum and sister for lunch as never walked for 5 days last week, need to get more active in the lead up now xx

FourPlasticRings · 30/09/2020 10:59

@Treacle81 it can mean a longer pregnancy, according to some research. Anecdotally, both my sister and I were back to back and DM went overdue with us both.

booroo · 30/09/2020 11:13

@Treacle81 it was certainly quick lol, I was admitted then stalled at 4cm so a midwife who I will hate forever more suggested going home to relax for a while.,. Mentioned I lived 40
Minutes from the hospital but she insisted, made it 10 mins off in the car before we had to turn back 🙄 was met by two midwifes in the car park who flanked me (read dragged me howling lol) into the unit examined me again and my little girl
Was born very very shortly after... down side was no pain relief other than gas and air (I thought I wanted more lol) upside was it was over so fast and I felt like a super hero afterwards lol
I will definitely not be fobbed and and sent home again this time I'll camp in the car park if it happens 🤣

Hope your doing ok @Zaalfruit

@FourPlasticRings i'm quite surprised by the early sweeps aswell down here it's only just changed to over 40 weeks from 41 they do not like to do them early

Viletta · 30/09/2020 11:24

Hi everyone, my due date is next weekend, so far no signs of labour. I also decided to stay away from any induction even sweeps till there is a medical reason for it. Wondering how hard that would be and whether a medical reason will appear, I'm having IVF pregnancy so the due date is accurate. Around week 20 I had a consultation with the doctor who wanted to book an induction week 39. I refused as it was way too early to discuss this. They pressured me for a couple of weeks and then agreed to monitor the pregnancy if I go overdue. I'm also hoping to have a home birth, all set up for it.

LexiM · 30/09/2020 11:37

@FourPlasticRings my husband had the option to select a date or from date baby is born. We went with date baby is born as dont want to waste days.

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy dont worry I'm due 14th October and feel like the whole group here will have babies and I will be left waiting haha. I've got my 38 week appointment today. Part of me wants baby to come but I've also still got hair cut and now booked some work on our bathroom extractor fan for 9th October. Part of me really wants it sorted but part of me hopes baby is a pain and comes then because I've booked it!

I just put the bedside crib up next to our bed, just want to get used to it being there without being attached to the bed. I'm such a clumsy person so decided to do that before baby comes as I will probably walk into it at first. Think we are going to trial it when baby comes not fully attached just next to the bed as it would be easier for me to get in and out but obviously if he wants to be closer we will attach it. It's pretty close already!

My husband keeps saying stop nesting and rest but I'm not a sit still type person and I keep saying if hes overdue I would be sitting around for weeks! I am only doing bits here and there now, I think he just says sit down because he feels bad if he isnt doing something as well. Plus it's good to be mobile right!

FourPlasticRings · 30/09/2020 11:38

Hi @Viletta! Homebirths are exciting, good luck! I wanted one but I've got Group B Strep so need to go into hospital for IV antibiotics when labour strikes. Have you got a birthing pool?

LexiM · 30/09/2020 11:39

@Viletta hope you get the home birth you want, I find it worrying how regularly they seem to offer induction. I know sometimes they are 100% essential but it seems any slight difference and they offer one!

NWnature · 30/09/2020 11:45

I’m the same feeling so lazy! I just feel like this is my last chance ever to loll about in bed or on the sofa!

@Zaalfruit hope you went in and it’s all good news. Sending loads of good vibes for you !

Guys I am definitely going to be one of the last ones hanging around on this thread I reckon. No signs of anything whatsoever yet.

Acupuncture appointment at 1pm - excited to see how that goes! Then going to try and get some PJs. Need to go over my hospital bags.

Treacle81 · 30/09/2020 11:51

@Viletta I hope you get your home birth 🤞 @LexiM I have also set crib up to get used to it, already banged bump against it 🙄 but yes I tho K the more active the better however that's my walk to lunch out the wind w as room started spinning a few mins before had to leave so now partner driving me up... Gutted as wanted air. @FourPlasticRings don't know if you tried to attach something as says click here but nothing attached. I have had the new mums net app installed so it's weird trying to get used to it xx

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 30/09/2020 12:13

@BntTowers I've written a list of everything I've packed for that reason because I know what I'm like usually I'd want to double check but I just now look at the list instead!

@Viletta Hi! A bit like me I will refuse anything until last minute or if medically nevesssry.

@LexiM yes I think good to be mobile! It all helps!!

Oh and just because it's been mentioned I asked my midwife about the strep b test and she said they don't offer it here because it can come and go so if they tested me and it came back negative, never week it could be positive and vice versa. So 🤷‍♀️ she also said because I'm struggling to get my flu jab that it's not a big deal if I don't because when baby will be born it's not peak flu time so confusing.

@NWnature im the same I'm so lazy last few days but everyone I know with babies says make the most of it while you can! So I'm just taking their advice! Exciting about acupuncture.

@Treacle81 aw that's a shame. If it helps, I barely walk anywhere these days unless it's flat as a pancake because of my spd. Where I live it's hills everywhere so I can't even get out for a little stroll without paying for it later.

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 30/09/2020 12:16

Also just ordered a few bit of clothing for when baby is here, I'm not expecting to fit into my jeans any time soon and I've been living in leggings but all the tops/ dresses I have that are easily accessible for breastfeeding are all really summery. And I'm expecting when baby here I'll have to be outside on walks or sitting outside cafes/ restaurants for a while so people can see baby so I needed some warmer clothes. Had no idea what size to order so just went size bigger than pre pregnancy weight x

HerondaleDucks · 30/09/2020 12:25

Hope you're ok @Zaalfruit was thinking of you!

BntTowers · 30/09/2020 12:45

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy I've been thinking about that too, I did order a dress but didn't like it in the end and I have no idea about sizes. Would like something half decent for when parents visit which means ordering it now but I don't have the motivation to look for anything at the moment either.

FourPlasticRings · 30/09/2020 12:49

@Treacle81 it's a link to the spinning babies website. If you Google it be find position and then posterior on the menu it takes you to all the info on it.

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy it is considered transient, but if you've got it past 36 weeks you're likely to still have it at birth. I had it at 8 weeks (they don't test for it, but they plate urine and if you've managed to contaminate the sample or have it as a UTI it gets flagged) and still had it when I did a private swab test at 37 weeks. Most countries do screen for it as standard. We don't largely because it's expensive to give every woman IV antibiotics in labour and because only 1 in 400 babies born to women with group B strep will go on to develop it. So if you're treating them all, that's 399 women on unnecessary antibiotics having to have an unnecessary IV in labour. With the antibiotics the odds of transmitting it decrease to 1 in 4000. That said, they now know I have it, so they've a duty of care to try and prevent me transmitting it, because 5% of the babies who contract it die from it. Small odds, but I'm not planning to risk it.

As for flu, you're unlikely to contract it while pregnant at this stage, as your midwife says. Pregnant women get offered it because flu tends to be much worse in pregnancy. I had my jab last week because the baby will then acquire the same antibodies I develop to it, hopefully offering it some protection this flu season when it's so vulnerable.

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 30/09/2020 13:03

@FourPlasticRings thanks for all the info. Oh it's so hard to always know what to do!
I'm going to be pretty strict I think for a while with what I do with baby and who she sees etc with covid anyway that hopefully even if I don't manage to get the flu jab on time she wouldn't catch anything anyway. I've not caught anything off anyone this year and normally by now I've had loads passed onto me!

@BntTowers I just ordered from ASOS some stretchy dresses that unless you have supermodel legs you wouldn't wear without something on your legs so I figured are short enough for me to wear on walks with leggings/ thick black tights but long enough to cover me a bit. (I have no idea what sort of jeans to order at this stage so just sticking with leggings first few weeks) Got some black trainers to go with my black leggings and some new camis that are easy for breastfeeding to put under my long cardigans. Didn't spent much (was all sale and cheap) as I'm hoping that'll do me for a little while and then maybe I'll start fitting into old clothes 🤞

Viletta · 30/09/2020 13:06

@FourPlasticRings yes got the birth pool and bits and bobs to cover surfaces. We're only 10 min drive from hospital

FourPlasticRings · 30/09/2020 13:26

I'm not jealous at all @Viletta... Envy

Grin

Good luck with it!

Viletta · 30/09/2020 13:33

@FourPlasticRings we'll see if it'll happen. A friend of mine gave birth a couple of days ago in a hospital and said it was the best day of her life. She said hypnobirthing helped her to stay calm and positive

Treacle81 · 30/09/2020 14:08

Thanks for that I'll look it up @FourPlasticRings. I was told I have thrush when mw last assessed me to see if waters had gone but I'm not at all itchy so think it's more likely group strep, I'll get results back 2m at 39 week appt. I managed lunch in Costa then had to go home just not feeling safe on feet outside. Mum said bees to stop bouncing on ball but I really want to move baby from back to back but it clearly isn't good for my equilibrium xx

BntTowers · 30/09/2020 15:05

@Treacle81 I think they can still turn during labour. I think your mum is right and it's probably best to stay off the ball for a couple of days if its making you dizzy again. Have you tried some other positions, like kneeling on the floor against the sofa so you are still UFO?

One of my oldest friends had her baby yesterday, just a couple of days overdue. Desperate to know what they are naming her to rule out that we haven't chosen matching names!

More batch cooking going on here. Sausage casserole on the hob and will be making a curry for tea tonight and there should be leftovers of that to go in the freezer too. My head is absolutely pounding today, I think it's just tiredness getting to me.

FourPlasticRings · 30/09/2020 15:26

They can turn during labour and most do. Only 5% of those who are posterior at the start are born that way. And some are born without an issue. It can make labour longer and more painful though.

I agree with @BntTowers and your mum- if the ball is making you dizzy, best to stop. I've fallen from birthing ball height recently and it is not fun!

FourPlasticRings · 30/09/2020 15:27

@BntTowers Well done for being so productive! I'm not feeling up to much at all today. Just got back from a short walk with my toddler and my back feels like it's in two pieces.

CharlieBalf · 30/09/2020 15:29

So scan went well... Baby still growing just above the 50th percentile but the sweep didn't work because cervix was closed up tight. Soft, but no room at the inn. Consult decided to induce tomorrow but no idea what to expect. I know it takes around 48 hours? Will I be in hospital alone for that time?
Anyone been induced before? Any experiences welcome!

HerondaleDucks · 30/09/2020 16:01

We did a trip to the pub today. Can't believe Ennis is 7 days old.

Good luck on the induction @CharlieBalf. I don't know much about the process but having been on the drip, I would recommend drinking plenty of fluid as those cannulas are awful. I'm covered in bruises where they couldn't get a vein.
Other than that just like a normal labour, but it ramps up quickly.

@BntTowers you are doing so well! I've been spoilt as my mum has been here doing all the cooking!

@Treacle81 take it easy! Being dizzy isn't good and you need lots of rest.

I forgot to mention as well. The first 3 to 4 days Ennis' nappy had a dark orange reddy stain when he had wee'd. I panicked and thought it was blood but apparently this is urates and is very normal. So just in case any ftm panic like me... that's what it is!

BntTowers · 30/09/2020 16:03

@FourPlasticRings just realised I can't do anymore batch cooking I've ran out of tubberwear! I've had to split the casserole into 3 containers. Will just have to label well.

@CharlieBalf I think it really varies from person to person. A friend of mine was induced earlier this week and it took about 13 hours from first going in to baby being born. I also think at the moment it's very dependant on hospital and if you are allowed to leave or not, best talking to the consultant about it.
I'm booked in for one on my due date and have been told to call first thing in the morning for a time and they will hope to give me a room and partner may be allowed in 8am-8pm then once in established labour, but again that depends on Covid cases and up to date hospital policy.
Good luck I hope it goes well for you.
