Whiffle77 · 29/09/2020 17:19

gorgeous pic @Knotemma, thank you for sharing!
Glad things are a little better @MOGMOGMOG85 you deserve it!!
I also feel unprepared, both mentally and practically. The last two weeks I have suddenly realised a baby may be coming home soon and have started going mad buying stuff, i had nothing before...slowly getting there and I feel a little less worried about it. Like others, I had put it off for ages because it felt too soon and I had detached myself from the pregnancy.
The realisation of what having a baby may be like keeps occasionally dawning on me and DH, how much is going to change and how little of a clue we have!! Ive also until now put off thinking about the birth, and have now got myself all anxious due to the hospital covid restrictions! I really dont want to be in there on my own. I've just finished the positive birth book, and really need to do some reading about actually looking after a baby!
It has helped to know everyone else is feeling similar though, thanks you! Smile
Hope you overdue ladies are all feeling OK! Try and enjoy your last bit of quiet time...!!
Great to hear about your support @Shefliesonherownwings and yippee at almost finishing work! Im also worried about the hospital on my own, especially as im likely to have a c section. I would be hopeful that you will be allowed more support though, they won't stick to the rules 100% all of the time.

MOGMOGMOG85 · 29/09/2020 18:49

@Whiffle77 we're at a pretty similar stage and I also have flashes of "omg a baby is coming, what on earth are we going to do". Everything feels so overwhelming! I also know little about looking after a baby, bar that it needs to be fed regularly and also you need to check its pooing regularly and looks fairly happy. That's basically my knowledge!

I don't even have time to crack on with my to-do list at the moment as I'm in mortgage hell/limbo. We have had our offer on the house accepted and verified, however we are now desperately trying to complete before the baby arrives on the proviso that you don't need to tell your bank you're pregnant. We are trying to port our mortgage so we'll only be paying the exact same we would if we weren't moving and I'm absolutely certain I'll find good work when I need to in our new town. I have lived there before and have great contacts - people who are rich and need their gardens doing! And I have a great cv... because I don't have a job lined up for the move we're going to have to blag to the bank that I plan on a 2 hour commute each way until I find new work. In my favour I already do a 1h15m commute each way and I have done 2 hours in the past (yes I'm insane). Everyone cross your fingers that we manage to get this done, that the bank gives us the green light (by some miracle) and that the baby doesn't arrive before we complete.... everyone in our chain (its only us, our buyer, and our seller) is ready and eager to move quickly, the buyer is renting and has a mortgage in principle ready to go, and the seller is renting the place out, has no chain, and can get the tenants out on time. Without going into too much detail this is basically our only chance of moving - to port. Once baby is born we are screwed as I am on SMP and then will be doing bits and pieces of self-employed work. God it's going to be a stressful time, I just hope the stress keeps the baby in place until after we complete. Another bonus if we get to move on time is that the hospital where we will move to is far superior and also lets birth partners in for the whole process atm... everyone pray to your gods and get your lucky charms lined up I must be insane to be doing this!!! The reason we are moving is because OH has a job with a massive training opportunity and would massively increase his income in the next 5 years. Also we have many established friends there (we don't know people where we live) - so a support network, and I have loads of job contacts. It would be awful if the bank reject us but also quite plausible...

@Babyghirl I'm sorry I don't know about strep - hopefully someone else will know? xx

futuredreams · 29/09/2020 20:13

Thanks so much all for your responses! I really was worried but it seems to be a very real thing with a lot of you too!
@MOGMOGMOG85 I'm in a very similar circumstance to you with house atm. I can sympathise with how stressful it might be for you. We have sale agreed and are waiting on a completion date. My whole house is boxed to the ceiling and all baby stuff is in boxes too apart from what I'm taking to the hospital. I have grade 4 placenta praevia so there's a chance I may go early and it could be very dangerous so I just feel like control is not with me at the moment. I'm just trying to be calm so I don't have to spend the rest of my days Pregnant in hospital! Less than a month to go. I have another appointment on Thursday and I'm really hoping I will get my c section date too. Does anyone know when they actually give you a date for that?

SunStruck · 30/09/2020 04:47

Quick update, my waters broke this morning! Didn't expect this at all after yesterday's examination where I was barely 1cm dilated. No contractions or anything yet though! Oh my way to the hospital now 😳

Hagster · 30/09/2020 06:20

Omg @SunStruck how exciting! Good luck love, you've got this.

Quick update from me, my ICP has increased slightly so I'm being induced on Monday 😱

MOGMOGMOG85 · 30/09/2020 07:02

@SunStruck so exciting!!! Looks like you're going to be the next graduate! Keep us updated if you can and good luck! xxx

@Hagster monday - so close! How are you feeling about it?

@futuredreams whilst it's nice to know someone in the same boat - you poor poor thing! Placenta praaevia as well to deal with :( I really hope you manage to somehow disconnect yourself from the stress and get ready. Fingers crossed for you with your completion. We had no plans to move before the pandemic but suddenly a much preferable work and life situation appeared to us and we had to chase it! We have the chance to move to a house with a big garden, better career development opportunities for my OH, and I am just praying we manage to complete in 2 months today (very ambitious) before baby arrives, and that bank underwriter favours our situation... It sounds like you are almost there in your process, hold strong! xx

SunStruck · 30/09/2020 07:46

Thanks ladies! They're keeping me in and have given me pessaries to start the induction 😳 because I was still only 1cm dilated and no contractions so they're speeding things up now when my fluids gone!

I'm in here for the long haul! At least the baby let us get a full nights sleep (8.5h) haha!

Knotemma · 30/09/2020 08:18

@SunStruck best of luck, I hope things progress nicely for you, it's very exciting that we'll be getting another graduate soon.

@Hagster Monday is so soon! So excited for you that you'll be meeting your bundle of joy soon x

footprintsintheslow · 30/09/2020 08:21

Well two very exciting updates. Thrilled to know we have two babies on the horizon.

tmc14 · 30/09/2020 08:41

@futuredreams To be honest, I still look at my almost 3 year old sometimes and think, s*, you're my child! I find it baffling. We didn't struggle to conceive him, but I was older as didn't meet my husband until later, so I feel like I waited so long to be a mum that it still seems really surreal. I feel even more nervous about this one, maybe because I feel that I should be more knowledgeable now but don't feel it at all.

@Shefliesonherownwings So pleased you're having positive appointments and being made to feel welcome whenever you need it. Makes such a different to your experience.

@SunStruck How exciting! Fingers crossed things move swiftly for you.

@Hagster Monday! How are you feeling about it? Particularly the induction, I know you were hoping for a water birth. Remember you can make a labour room feel really cosy and nice, lower lights, nice music, ask people to talk through your DH etc to keep your mind quiet if those things would help. I'm glad they've been monitoring you closely. Hopefully you can plan a lovely, relaxing, restful weekend to prepare.

@MOGMOGMOG85 Good luck with the house move. Such a stressful thing to do without a baby as well! Fingers crossed all the paperwork is sorted before they arrive.

Nothing new going on here. Got my flu jab and midwife appointment today. Feeling tired now, still grumpy with DH about his refusal to see his parents as anything other than perfect and not listening to me properly, and feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the little things I need to get done in the next week or so. But all fine really. Sweep next Wednesday, and really really hoping it helps to get things moving. I'm still keeping everything crossed I don't have to go past the pessary stage of induction to get things going properly, I'm really scared of the drip!

didslysquiddlydoo · 30/09/2020 08:55

Ahhhhhh good luck @SunStruck will be thinking of you!!!!

Still nothing to see here.... 40+4! I'm actually not feeling too impatient.. just v uncomfortable!! 🙈😂

Whiffle77 · 30/09/2020 09:11

Oh wow what exciting updates to log onto this morning! Good luck @SunStruck we will all be thinking of you!
And not long for you too @Hagster, can't wait to read both of your updates!
Will be keeping my fingers firmly crossed for your move @MOGMOGMOG85, things always happen as they are meant to with houses I think!
And for you too @futuredreams Smile

TunnocksTCake · 30/09/2020 19:39

Hi ladies, baby Francesca Lily Jane arrived at 03:45 on Monday 28th September. 💕 she is just perfect, feeding well and if anything sleeping a little too much though I'm sure that will change soon!

Labour was intense, my waters went at 12:45 am Sunday, went to hospital to have it confirmed but it was a literal flood, I woke up in a pool of warm liquid and said to dh 'I've either wet myself or my waters have gone'! 😂
After that we returned home, contractions started slowly and intermittently at around 3am, and never really got off the ground til 5pm. We had a nice set up with Harry Potter audiobook playing in the background, I was on all fours leaning over the birthing ball and standing for each contraction, hanging off dh and swaying my hips. I was having 2 every ten mins or so when I went in to hospital at midnight Sunday to be told I was 2cm. Sent home with codeine to carry on labouring.
Then things really ramped up, contractions got much stronger and abdominal cramping bled into back cramps and I found it really difficult to identify individual contractions, but I was in ALOT of pain by 2am when dh rang the hospital who heard me in the background and told him to bring me in. We got there and to my surprise I was 8cm! No time to bring any of our bags in, they wheeled me into a delivery room where they started to fill a birthing pool for me but I got on the bed and leant against the back of it just using gas and air. Pretty soon I wanted to push and they confirmed I was 10cm... pool was not even half full at this point!
Pushing was a bit of a relief weirdly, felt good to be making progress! They talked about making a cut and gave me a local anaesthetic because baby's heart rate had slowed but then 2 strong pushes later she was born at 03:45 weighing an impressive 8lb 6 oz. The midwives were all a bit shocked it was my first!!
I had a second degree tear and was losing a lot of blood so all the drs came in and I was stitched up pretty quick which controlled the bleed. Lost just under 1litre total so had a drip of fluids put in my hand. We were then finally left alone and had some lovely cuddles in the birthing room. I was able to get in the bath after my drip which was lovely! We were in the birthing room until 9:30 when they took me up to the ward and dh had to leave for an hour and a half til visiting time. He came back and we stayed in until 4:00pm after all newborn checks and my blood tests had returned.
All in all I wish I'd gone in sooner for some pain relief but not being able to time the contractions properly I thought I was just being a wimp and I couldn't possibly be that far along after just 2 hours!
Will catch up with what I've missed soon but good luck to those due soon!

Ah, @TunnocksTCake What an amazing story! You are such a warrior! Francesca (gorgeous name) is beautiful, really pleased you everything went well, even if a little off plan. Enjoy the rest while she's sleeping well. Congratulations xxx

Whiffle77 · 30/09/2020 19:56

Congratulations @TunnocksTCake what a gorgeous little girl!! Im so pleased for you. Love the name too. Thank you for sharing your story. Hope you manage to get some rest while she is sleeping!!

Babyghirl · 30/09/2020 20:22

I'm so anxious today girls I'm telling myself nt if it happens again it's when it happens again 😭😭😭😭😭😭 I already have it in my head that I think I would bck home with my folks for my husband to be to find a woman that can do what she meant to do the struggle is real hate feeling something so magical is hunting me from I wake to I go to bed 😢😢😢😢😢 the fear is taking over me

Babyghirl · 30/09/2020 20:23

Sorry to be a downer on you girls just need to vent as partner is on nite shift

AnxiousLady1 · 30/09/2020 21:29

Congrats @TunnocksTcake!! Beautiful photo and beautiful name! I'm also planning the Harry Potter audio books to get me through early labour 😂 You sound like an absolute warrior.

@babyghirl Try not to get in your head too much. I know this is difficult to do at the moment, particularly with most of us working from home etc. We're left with too much time to think and not enough distraction. Focus on some distraction techniques to refocus your mind. Whatever you're into. Whether it's watching a series on Netflix, playing a video game, cleaning, cooking etc. We all have different ways of dealing when the anxiety and negative thoughts set in. xx

didslysquiddlydoo · 30/09/2020 21:32

@TunnocksTCake ahhhh I'm so jealous - congratulations!!!!! She's beautiful and it sounds like you coped amazingly well 💕💕

SunStruck · 01/10/2020 04:25

@TunnocksTCake congratulations!!!! Beautiful baby abs name ❤️

Baby Leo here born at 4 am on 1.10.20 😄 all went very well, super slow to get to 5cm but then I went from 5 to 10 in 2 hours! Few pushes and he was out. He seems super chilled and sleeping in his hospital cot for now 😄

Whiffle77 · 01/10/2020 08:01

Congratations @SunStruck he is so beautiful! I love the name too. Sounds like you had a pretty good birth too - must have been all that gym going Smile hope you manage to get some rest too, you must be shattered!
So much lovely news 💞💞

Babyghirl · 01/10/2020 08:09

Well looks like I'm leaving this thread to go on the ttc one again girls started cramping last nite and brown blood. 3rd loss I'm broke where to go from here I don't know if I can keep going nw. Going to phone my doc to get in touch with my fertility consultant and c what he says good luck to you ladies awaiting your rainbows and congratulations to the ones who's had there's. 💚🍀💚🍀

Knotemma · 01/10/2020 08:28

@Babyghirl so sorry that things aren't looking good. Make sure you take good care of yourself, take your time and try not to put too much pressure on yourself to decide whether to TTC again soon, you're allowed to take the time to grieve and look after yourself xx

MOGMOGMOG85 · 01/10/2020 08:47

@Babyghirl what horrible news I'm so sorry :( is your fertility referral still going ahead?? It's just so heartbreaking, I'm so sorry you're going through this again - not fair at all. Take care and be good to yourself, you're going through a lot xxx

@SunStruck and @TunnocksTCake your babies are absolutely stunning and both sound like relatively straightforward but amazing birth stories! Hope you're getting plenty of rest and managing to enjoy your first days with your little ones, congratulations. @TunnocksTCake thanks for sharing your story - I am worried about blood loss as I've been told I'm a high risk of PPH and also I had a very bloody and alarming loss previously where the blood didn't slow down to a manageable level for 10 long hours... It's good to hear of other people's experiences - it's actually quite common to haemorrhage to some degree so I'm just trying to tell myself I'll be in the right place and looked after - the doctors clearly took good care of you and then you were out so quickly!

Gosh there's not going to be many of us left, everything has happened so quickly the last couple of weeks!

xx
