The other way is generally a surname.

Has anyone told work yet? I had a positive scan yesterday but I am tempted to hold off until I've had my screening results and consultant appointment. I'll be nearly 17 weeks then... What's everyone else doing/done?

MrsAndMrs · 16/09/2020 09:28

@aureliacecilia I told my boss at the very beginning and now I'm 14wks, its public knowledge. It depends on your job as to whether its a requirement to tell your work early or not, if it doesn't affect your work in any way then legally you don't have to say anything until 15 weeks before your EDD (in Scotland, not sure if its different anywhere else).

aureliacecilia · 16/09/2020 09:31

I work entirely from home in a desk-based job so it doesn't impact on my job at all. They would probably need to do a risk assessment but it would presumably be very generic!

LandMammal · 16/09/2020 09:39

@aureliacecilia told work last week (at 15 wks) and was dreading it. I'venot told many peolle as I work from home so csn get away with hiding it! My manager's first words were 'ohhhh noooo!' so yeah, I think she's gutted (annoyed?!) to be losing me again for the 3rd time (4th if you count furlough?!). Men get it so bloody easy!

LandMammal · 16/09/2020 09:40

she did say congratulations at the end though, but I'm sure it was through gritted teeth haha

LittleBrownBaby · 16/09/2020 09:53

Great to have a new thread and would join a FB group. I have my 12 week scan next week. Really nervous after two previous MC, my last 4 days before my 12 week scan - but feel much more positive this time x

chloxhunt · 16/09/2020 09:53

@aureliacecilia I told my boss as soon as I found out due to already being high risk against covid

KatyCherry23 · 16/09/2020 09:57

@aureliacecilia I told my supervisors by accident, we were having a zoom call catch up and they asked me how I was and I burst into tears 😂😂 I must have frightened the life out of them. I'm lucky they are all mothers and researchers in infant and maternal health so they were all lovely 😂

aureliacecilia · 16/09/2020 10:02

@KatyCherry23 Do you know Prof Amy Brown? I think she's great and I'm going to order all of her books to read over the coming months. Grin

KatyCherry23 · 16/09/2020 10:26

@aureliacecilia I do know her! Not personally but I have met her when she was speaking at a Unicef conference and got her to sign all my books. I think she is wonderful. I wanted to have her as a supervisor but I have to work withing specific universities for my funding and she's over at Swansea. My lead supervisor has published a few papers with her though as her research is in breastfeeding.

NoGinNotComingIn · 16/09/2020 10:41

I know who prof Amy Brown is, one of my friends works with her... I didn’t realise she was so “famous”. Quite a few of my friends did their phds in infant feeding.

ValidUser · 16/09/2020 10:44

Everyone knew I was doing IVF, so everyone knew from the beginning.

holb54 · 16/09/2020 10:53

Love when the thread turns to baby names 😍

@KatieG200394 Irish myself so I'd have to say Conor!

@BatKat I like Sebastian!

@SnickerdoodleSnek Cara is lovely, Irish but still recognizable in the UK 💜

@aureliacecilia I told them at 8 weeks but I only told them then because I work in catering on the wards in my local hospital and it's fairly physical.. Think late 20 to early 30 degree heat and constant bending plus the odd 11 hour shift! I also worked on a covid ward all summer and wanted them to know in case it turned back to that so they'd move me because we'd be in and out of the rooms and had a lot of contact with patients with it

I'm telling my team next week when I'll be 16 weeks, I've not told my manager yet as I'm working from home so no one around to notice anything!

I've just enjoyed planning when I'm going to take my maternity leave! Bring on feb 2020!!

LottieX · 16/09/2020 11:06

Ahah I mean 2021, clearly I'm already keen to get started 😂

Thack · 16/09/2020 11:20

First scan finally done! They've moved me forward 4 days.
My bladder wasn't full yet, so I'd advise anyone going to have their pint more than an hour before. Little one was in an awkward position too, so I couldn't get all the measurements. My blood test for screening will now be at the 16 week appointment.

Nice to know that there is a baby in my belly and it's not just in my head!
Telling my parents tonight before they go away. Hopefully I'll finally relax later.

KatyCherry23 · 16/09/2020 11:30

@Thack are you being sent in for another scan or are they happy to send you home? I always wonder how they keep to appointments when they have babies in awkward positions. They sent my sister out to the carpark to do exercise and come back to get a good view of the baby 😂

Taylortyler · 16/09/2020 11:31

@Thack I feel like the full bladder thing is a bit of a nightmare really! I drank 3/4 of a pint an hour before and my bladder was full (but not so full, I wasn't bursting) she couldn't see anything, I had to empty my bladder, she still couldn't see so I had to walk round for 20 mins and then give my hips a shake before they could look at anything! Then at the epu they did the scan at 11+4 and my bladder was completely empty (as I had to give a sample) fingers crossed the 20 week is slightly easier as the baby will be bigger!

chloxhunt · 16/09/2020 11:33

@Thack I only drunk to glasses and that was enough for me

Sussexbysea · 16/09/2020 11:55

@Thack how far along are you? Maybe try asking them to screen you sooner x

Sussexbysea · 16/09/2020 11:58

My manager knows already as I dropped a double bombshell on her of having covid and being pregnant at the same time 😂

We’re not going public until 20 weeks though as we just want to make sure all is ok at the scan. Baby needs an extra heart scan because of the excess fluid at the back of its neck, we’re sure all will be ok though.

After the good news has been given I’ll be off to the shops buying clothes and picking out new Moses basket mattress and cot bed mattress.

chloxhunt · 16/09/2020 12:05

@Sussexbysea mine will probably need heart scans too due to me having a heart condition

Sussexbysea · 16/09/2020 12:23

@chloxhunt hope yours is all ok.
