@Sussexbysea I hope yours is okay too!

Thack · 16/09/2020 12:47

They put me at 12+5. Having followed this thread, I was surprised she didn't send me to drink and come back, but the waiting room was busy when I left so I doubt that was an option.
I'm not so worried about the screening - I see it as more of a pre-warning. I got the pics, date and they were happy with how everything looked so I'm calling that a success :-)

My work have known for a while, I work in HR and ended up off for a month so had to come clean. I had an early scan and they told me it was a cornual ectopic pregnancy and I was rushed into surgery to have it removed. The next day they told me they misread the scan, I have a heart shaped uterus and baby was in the position it was because of that. Luckily it turned out good in the end but it took a couple of weeks for them to confirm it wasn’t ectopic. My boss knowing made all that easier.

Name wise I keep getting stuck. My partner likes William for boy and it seems to have stuck. The girls names are all over the place 😂

DSP21 · 16/09/2020 13:11

I finally got to the 12 week scan! The baby was in an awkward position which meant emptying my bladder and trying to get it to move. Eventually they could take measurements but it wasn't a very clear image (boo!) But happy baby is well, measuring right on track and due 28th March ❤️

I like quite old traditional names like Arthur, William, Edith, Isobel. My second child was nearly Arthur but my husband said no because he’d get called arty farty 🤣. He won’t allow any names that end in a “y” either as our surname does and he thinks it sounds ridiculous, so options are fairly limited really. We also want it to go with our other children’s names so that’s an added thing to think about. There’s other names I like but he just won’t entertain, like I like Henry and George but he said no to both outright last time. Took us 4 days to name our second child... after he’d arrived!!

KatyCherry23 · 16/09/2020 13:22

@NoGinNotComingIn I didn't even really think about the last name fitting. This one will be a double barrel surname because I refuse to change my last name even if we did get married. There will be 4 of us and not a single one has the same last name 😂😂😂
I've got a Casey so as long as the new baby isn't a Tracey or something similar it will probably go 🤣

Sussexbysea · 16/09/2020 13:27

@DSP21 ahhh congratulations lovely. Great picture x

Mrs1989 · 16/09/2020 13:39

Congratulations @DSP21! 😃 I ended up having to empty my bladder too - apparently it was too full! xxx

MrsAndMrs · 16/09/2020 13:41

@DSP21 aww lovely! 😍 congratulations!

MrsAndMrs · 16/09/2020 13:45

The whole name thing stresses me out. I think we have a boys name now but cannot set on a girls name. You have to think about surname, initials, what it can be shortened too, if there's an easy way for kids to take the piss out of it......we loved a boys name but would have given them the initials of BAW and that just too easy for kids to take the piss in Scotland! 😂

DSP21 · 16/09/2020 13:45

Thank you everyone! Just the anxious wait for test results to go. How are you all guessing the sex based on ultrasound? I'd love to get in on this action 😂

KatyCherry23 · 16/09/2020 14:05

@MrsAndMrs 😂😂😂 one of my fave Scottish insults!

MrsAndMrs · 16/09/2020 14:11

@KatyCherry23 hahahaha its great! We're not mature enough to give that initials to our child and not giggle everytime 😂

Sussexbysea · 16/09/2020 14:11

Had anyone begun to think about their mat leave yet? I’m thinking mid February, I’ve got a due date of 9th March but I don’t think they’ll let me go that far because of health conditions

chloxhunt · 16/09/2020 14:14

@Sussexbysea I was thinking the tbh cause you get longer off once the baby is here

SnickerdoodleSnek · 16/09/2020 14:16

@aureliacecilia I told my school on Monday. I've got risk assessment today and tomorrow, it's a long policy because if COVID, and there will be a lot of restrictions imposed on me as I work with children with SEN requirements.

Sussexbysea · 16/09/2020 14:24

@chloxhunt I’ll be using holiday from when I leave to when baby arrives and then mat leave kicks in.

I’ll be taking a year or so off so I’ll have plenty of time

chloxhunt · 16/09/2020 14:32

@Sussexbysea smart choice 😂

aureliacecilia · 16/09/2020 14:48

I am due 18 March and I expect I will finish in early February, unless I am still working from home then - if so, I might try to work a bit longer. If I make it as far in this pregnancy as I did in my first (35 weeks), the baby will be born on 6 February. Shock I expect I will feel incredibly anxious and that my PGP will be hard to manage by that point (I was signed off from 33 weeks the first time around and I've already got it now, about a month sooner than it niggled me in my first pregnancy) so a rest will probably be needed. I don't care one bit about being bored or going overdue - it'll be a blessing to have some quiet time and time with my son before the baby is born. I accrue leave while I'm off so I'm not worried about not having as much time as I need with the baby off. I'm planning on returning to work when the baby is 9 months and then my husband taking shared parental leave/unpaid parental leave until the baby is around a year old. When he returns to work I hope to reduce my working hours to work part time.

Taylortyler · 16/09/2020 14:50

How close to the birth can you work? I'd like to work until I'm ready to drop but I don't know if there's a legal cut off? And also never being pregnant before I don't know how I'll feel late on?

c24680 · 16/09/2020 14:52

@Sussexbysea my due date is the 8th of March, I'm not going back to work in the office so I'm going to go on annual leave feb 28th unless I have a elective c-section date before then.

Leaving it late means more time with the baby and I'm hoping to not go back until Jan 2022!

aureliacecilia · 16/09/2020 14:54

Miscounted - I think I meant 12th February! Blush That's a Friday and my possibly target date for keeping baby in utero and staying in work.

Babafarmer · 16/09/2020 15:02

We like the name Charlotte for a girl shortened to Lottie, boys we are really struggling with. One of the reasons we want to find out gender.

I had to tell work early at 4 weeks due to working in a red COVID area. I am now home working and trying to get in touch with HR to see if they'll make me start maternity from 36 weeks as the government has now added to the guidance that if you are suspended due to health and safety reasons they can make you start early not just due to pregnancy related sickness. Because I'm home working is like to start as late as possible to get more time afterwards. I still have 5 weeks annual leave so could start at 35 with that if I'm allowed to choose like normal. I have a colleague that started hers at 40 weeks but saved annual leave so was off sooner x

Mrs1989 · 16/09/2020 15:10

@DSP21 I had come across ‘skull theory’ and based on that I’m convinced I’m having a boy! A couple of ladies on here have agreed with me! www.healthline.com/health/pregnancy/skull-theory

Mrs1989 · 16/09/2020 15:16

Hi ladies,

I know there is lots of information online now but I would really like a book or two to get clued up on what lies ahead (because I am old fashioned and love working through a book!). I had a quick look on Amazon but felt a bit unsure on what to go for and don’t want to waste money! Ideally I’d like one that covers pregnancy plus the first few months of caring for a newborn, but happy to have separate books covering these subjects if there aren’t ‘all-in-one’ books out there. Does anybody have any recommendations?
