In honour of our third trimester I thought we should start a new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@HarrietM87 I had something similar happen a few weeks ago. I went for a scan at 32 weeks to check the placenta and the sonographer said baby was measuring 2.5 weeks ahead. However, when it came to my midwife appointment at 34 weeks, she said the fundal measurement was bang on, and basically poo-pooed the scan. I have heard of a good few people lately being told their baby is 'big' that turned out to be 7lbs. I am trying to trust my body and think 'it wouldnt make a baby that cant come out'. I decided quickly that I wouldnt have an induction for a 'big baby' unless they could give me proper medical reasons as to why it was needed.

Its very hard not to worry though. I am 5'1, size 8-10 before getting pregnant, and couldnt push my first out without ventouse. I know though that they have to come out, one way or another.

SqidgeBum · 07/10/2020 21:10

oh god @mOmShanti that sounds very difficult!! Its good you have come out the other end, but that was very tough going!

Wise0wl · 07/10/2020 22:27

@mOmShanti so glad you’re feeling better now - that sounds terrible!

@HarrietM87 and @SqidgeBum I hope you’re both doing ok, I like the ‘I wouldn’t make a baby that can’t come out’ way of thinking. It’s really surprised me that I’ve not been scanned since 20 weeks, I struggle to believe fundal measurements are particularly scientific tbh, so it’ll be interesting to see how big all these babies are when they’re born!

SqidgeBum · 07/10/2020 22:46

@Wise0wl I think the increase in scanning after 20 weeks for various reasons has led to more 'big baby' diagnoses. I keep thinking that babies must have been 'big' all along, but women just birthed them anyway. My baby was 7lbs 14oz last time, which the doc said was 'big' for me, but I didnt know because I hadnt been scanned so just got on with it. Womens bodies are made to birth babies, and if it does turn out that you need a bit of extra help, its there.

This is me trying to keep calm.

FudgeFlies · 08/10/2020 07:12

@mOmShanti glad you’re feeling better! I also tested positive for covid but didn’t have as many symptoms as you! It’s scary out there at the moment!

FudgeFlies · 08/10/2020 07:13

*tested positive a few weeks ago

HarrietM87 · 08/10/2020 07:21

Thanks guys for the support! I agree that the scanning is a double edged sword. In my first pregnancy I had a growth scan that estimated my son would be small-average, but he was actually almost 9lbs and his head was 95th centile! If I’d known that beforehand I would have been terrified by the birth but actually it was totally fine. This time round even though I know the scans are completely inaccurate I’m so worried that the baby is huge! My midwife told me last time that the baby’s position is more important than its size so I’ve been trying all the spinning babies stuff as well. Think this one is back to back on top of being massive 😱

@mOmShanti so sorry to hear you were so ill, well done getting through it! Nearly there now!

Ding123 · 08/10/2020 09:52

@FudgeFlies Glad to hear your symptoms were mild! My dad (in his 70s) who we've been worrying about most since March tested positive but asymptomatic, so it's anyone's guess who gets its severe and who gets lucky. @mOmShanti wish you a speedy recovery Flowers

My baby is also measuring big (well bigger than previous two), but MW isn't concerned at all, she said babies are rarely so huge that it becomes problematic.

wannabebump · 08/10/2020 10:54

My MW said at the last appointment that baby was "larger" but the fundal measurement had dropped - not sure how that works! Not long until I see a community MW again so will see what gets said this time. Feeling like my hands and feet are starting to swell now too... the joys! Confused

mOmShanti · 08/10/2020 11:31

Thanks for all the well wishes Flowers

@FudgeFlies glad you’re better too x

FudgeFlies · 10/10/2020 06:56

Has anyone had the flu jab yet? I keep forgetting to book with my GP and have 3 and a half weeks left until due date. Worried I’ve left it a bit late. Also never had the flu jab before but feeling pressured by midwife to get it this year. Anyone not having it?

littlegem84 · 10/10/2020 07:26

@FudgeFlies I'm the same - I keep completely forgetting! Having had flu once before, I'd say crack on and get it done as you definitely don't want that when you are pregnant/have a little one. I couldn't walk for a week and I'm pretty sure it affects children more than adults.

Pink15 · 10/10/2020 07:48

@FudgeFlies In sure my midwife said it takes 3 weeks in to kick in so sooner the better! You may go post term too. If you breast feed it'll protect baby too even if too late to have effect whilst pregnant

FilthyforFirth · 10/10/2020 07:54

I've had the flu jab, had it at 32 weeks. It is less painful that the whooping cough one, my arm wasnt too sore afterwards. I personally think it is doubly important this year.

HarrietM87 · 10/10/2020 08:17

Yep, had it last week at 35 weeks. I do not want to have the flu while pregnant or breastfeeding! Need to get it for my toddler as well - 2 and 3 year olds eligible this year too.

littlegem84 · 10/10/2020 08:51

@FudgeFlies you spurred me into action but looks like the flu clinic has taken place at my surgery this year and boots don't have enough of the vaccine to do any more at the moment so the hunt continues!

wannabebump · 10/10/2020 09:17

@littlegem84 maybe your MW can arrange for you? Or smaller/ independent pharmacies where demand might be slightly less than big chains.

On a different note, I'm off shopping today for the last of my hospital bag and the only thing left to get is big pants 😂 any recommendations of places? I don't fancy hunting around lots!

Pink15 · 10/10/2020 10:01

@wannabebump if you're only gonna wear them for a few weeks and potentially bin them I'd stick to cheap and cheerful Primark!

FudgeFlies · 10/10/2020 10:02

Thanks everyone!! Will put a reminder on my phone to book it on Monday! Just keeps slipping my mind!

FilthyforFirth · 10/10/2020 10:52

I can second cheap massive granny pants from primark. Had them first time round due to section and have just purchased a new set for hospital bag. Surprisingly comfy for cheap ones!

wannabebump · 10/10/2020 11:07

Thanks for the primark suggestions - had a look in their last week and was fruitless for big pants, I'll try another store today!

MrsR87 · 10/10/2020 11:19

I move the mama pants from h and m. Just order in your regular size and they fit like a dream. No tight elastics or anything. I got some and bought another pack so that I could have some to wear now and some for my bag! 😍

MrsR87 · 10/10/2020 11:20

Love...not move. Damn phone!!! 🤣

littlegem84 · 10/10/2020 11:49

@wannabebump I'm hitting the smaller pharmacies today in hopes that I can get a jab 😀

Asda pants are surprisingly comfy 😀

CoBell · 10/10/2020 13:40

Hi ladies, I'm another one who's been struggling to book a flu jab, I was originally meant to be getting one at Boots but this was cancelled due to them being short on vaccinations. I've managed to book one today online at Tesco Pharmacy so this is worth a look for anyone else struggling to book, it's not until a couple of weeks but it's booked now at least! X
