So I had my bump measured today and I am 28 weeks but measuring 31cm. Is this something to worry about? When she marked it on the chart seemed so off the lines. She said she'll check again in a few weeks and then if I'm still measuring large then I'll have to go in for a scan. Will my baby be large?

We went for a private growth scan last week and all her measurements were only 3 days ahead with her legs being 1 week ahead. Should I be worrying if shes grown that much since? Would appreciate some advice.

confused107 · 15/09/2020 15:58

Hi @Asianchick6693 I was measured by the midwife yesterday and she said that I was slightly above average at 28 weeks, but had a private scan the day before which was spot on. The midwife said that babies are usually a little smaller than they measure so I'm likely to be more in the middle. She also said that they will be looking for more of a pattern over the rest of the pregnancy rather than focusing on one measurement and she would send me for a extra scan if ever they are concerned. So I'm not sure they would know at this point. I'm at risk of a smaller baby but I've decided not to be worried unless the midwife is

Asianchick6693 · 15/09/2020 16:07

@confused107 thank you that's reassuring. Hopefully it's nothing. I'm definitely a worrier! At the private scan the sonographer said how the fluid around the baby etc all measurements were perfect so I was confused if things could change so drastically in a week!

confused107 · 15/09/2020 16:13

I'm not sure how accurate the measuring is tbh as my scan was less than 24 hours before she measured, though the scan was private so not diagnostic as such. There is so much to worry about, but I've decided that if the professionals aren't worried I'm going to try not too. Easier said than done!

peachypetite · 15/09/2020 16:26

My midwife measured my bump at my 28 week appointment and didn’t comment at all, so I assume it’s average? I do know fundal height measurement is not the most accurate.

Kj1010 · 15/09/2020 16:38

I see my midwife at 24 weeks no weight measure not belly measure and my next appointment with midwife is at 32 weeks I'm currently 27+2 I'm at risk of small baby aswell because of my first how mad that most of use had a appointment at 28 weeks and I had mine at 24 and wont see
her for like 8 weeks I mean I do have a growth scan next week then consultant and bloods maybe that's why actually lmao that's when I will worry about baby and bloods

danielasummer · 15/09/2020 17:47

@peachypetite @excitednerves thank you, they all look and sound great. Tena lady pads is a good idea as I was a bit worried about leakage on my underwear and which pads to get. Also yes to snacks! I need to put that on my list! @NaomiB79 thanks for sharing, it looks great. Think I will need to pop to Tesco as I can't find anything similar online.
@nearlyamummyof2boys looove the set and what a bargain!

I have my 28 week appt tomorrow (officially in third trimester wooo!) and I'm finding myself getting nervous, mainly I think about measurement and baby's size. Hopefully all is ok. Sorry to those of you that have been told baby is either measuring small/large, I know that the measurements the midwives do at this stage can be quite inaccurate though so hopefully those of you with growth scans can get a more accurate measurement x

lc86 · 15/09/2020 19:00

@Kj1010 how odd that your appointments are so spaced out. I had one at 25 weeks, another at 28 weeks and I'll be 29weeks Sunday and I have consultant on Tuesday.. then midwife again at 31 weeks.. my baby is measuring on the higher end of the scale but my last baby was 9lb 13oz so I'm not expecting this one to be small. Midwife wasn't concerned as said similar that they're looking for patterns more so in growth.. when I went for growth scan on previous baby they said it was all fluid and that's why I measured big, then came out 9lb 13oz so I take it all with a pinch of salt now x

peachypetite · 15/09/2020 19:07

@Kj1010 I’d question why you don’t have a 28 week appt.

nearlyamummyof2boys · 15/09/2020 19:27

@danielasummer it came today it's amazing - I found Tenas a god send and no leakage! Those big pads can be so uncomfortable in knickers and never stay in place!

@Asianchick6693 I've always found if there is something wrong midwives are very good at letting you know so I wouldn't worry to much if she didn't say anything. Every bump is unique 😊

I feel like I always comment on here with drama - sorry - but I'm back in hospital they're keeping me in over night just to keep an eye on me. I had a small bleed this morning so went to the maternity assessment unit and got admitted. They said baby looks good and his heartbeat is good so I'm not to worried and looking forward to the rest! Midwives have been lovely and quite nice to get a peak at where I will be when I give birth and how the staff are!

I thought we were allowed post natal visits but just found out we're not! I really hope that changes!

jalu47 · 15/09/2020 19:46

Oh no @nearlyamummyof2boys you've had a real run of it! Hoping all is ok and you get out soon.

My trust is really vague about the whole labour / post delivery rules on partners, seems like it's all ok and no restrictions but find that hard to believe with everyone else's stories... will find out more at next weeks appt I think.

Babyhope98 · 15/09/2020 20:05

Mine was measuring on the smaller side of normal but I don’t know how accurate these belly measurements are as when I had my scan she was measuring a week ahead on head and belly and two weeks on her legs so I don’t know what to believe lol

NaomiB79 · 15/09/2020 20:10

@nearlyamummyof2boys sorry to hear you are in hospital but it is the best place to be so they can check on you and the baby and sounds like you have the added bonus of checking it out before labour. I hope you get plenty rest in there and glad to hear the midwives have been lovely. Take care x

peachypetite · 15/09/2020 21:08

@nearlyamummyof2boys do you have a low lying placenta? I hope you are okay and getting good care x

nearlyamummyof2boys · 15/09/2020 21:12

I've got an Anterior placenta - they think a piece of it might have just broken off and that doing the examines yesterday might have caused the bleed this morning @peachypetite so should all be ok but just with everything else that's happened being extra cautious xx

PipTed · 15/09/2020 21:22

Awww @nearlyamummyof2boys that’s so rubbish! Hope it’s just one of those things and you’re out as soon as possible. Great that you get a sneak peek of the ward/centre though!

I was in the assessment centre last night too, as I was getting stabbing pains in the side of my bump. Like ligament pains that just wouldn’t budge; paracetamol didn’t do anything either. One of those pains that takes your breath away,

Was asked to come in and they monitored baby for an hour as it was moving so much they couldn’t get a clear reading. Not surprised as the bed was super uncomfortable!

Turns out I’ve pulled the ligaments so need to rest. Baby is fine, if not a bit (very) active. Was trying to mow the lawn (again) when it came on so that’s a definite activity off my list.

Thanks for all the tips on the pads. After yesterday’s experience I definitely need to start with my bag. Two women went into labour while I was being assessed. 😱

Shit is getting real guys.

Snowwhite2020 · 15/09/2020 22:05

@nearlyamummyof2boys I’m sorry to hear you had a bleed and are in hospital. I hope you are ok and great to get a peak at where you will be giving birth 💕

@Asianchick6693 I have been for an extra growth scan following a bigger than average fundal measurement with midwife at last appointment. At the scan, the head tummy and femur were all measuring 3 weeks ahead of “where they should be” and I did not have excess fluid. I’ve since spoken to a consultant who I will be speaking to again but basically the only measurement they pay attention to (if it is birth you are concerned about) is the head circumference. My baby’s is almost on the line of 100th percentile- meaning it’s is bigger than 1 in 100 babies heads for its stage. Measurements can be wrong and consultant said they get an ultrasound measurement wrong around 20% of the time. I think the thing is when you’re talking about big you want to be specific about what is measuring big... you can have a long baby, a heavy baby, a big tummy... turns out ours looks like it’s all the above but apparently it’s all about the head. Even at that, you can still have a vaginal delivery they will just monitor you more and they won’t let you go overdue. This is what I’ve been told. Hope that helps xx

excitednerves · 16/09/2020 03:55

Oh @nearlyamummyof2boys how stressful for you. Like you say though, I hope you can get some rest there, and nice to see around too! There’s no visiting in my trust and I’m gutted about it. 😢

peachypetite · 16/09/2020 07:49

@nearlyamummyof2boys what kind of night have you had? Hope you got some sleep?

nearlyamummyof2boys · 16/09/2020 08:01

Morning @peachypetite not to best to be honest a women came on the ward at 1am and went into labour at 2am and the poor thing was crying her eyes out!
But it's nice to chill out this morning and not run around after a 1 year old!
So I do feel rested and just so relieved at how good the care seems here. 😊

danielasummer · 16/09/2020 09:43

@nearlyamummyof2boys have been thinking of you, glad you are feeling rested even after a few wake ups! X

excitednerves · 16/09/2020 11:40

So glad the care seems good @nearlyamummyof2boys. That must be a relief at least. Your hospital morning sounds blissful compared to mine ha ha!

peachypetite · 16/09/2020 12:23

How long will you be in for?

Asianchick6693 · 16/09/2020 12:48

@nearlyamummyof2boys hope you're doing okay! Thinking of you and @Snowwhite2020 @confused107 thanks for your response girls, it just varies between mothers so much. I gathered for most part, its better for them to check these things as a precaution so I've not been worrying since reading all your answers. All the best!

I've started ticking off my shopping list now, feels like I've got tonnes to do. I put it off because hubby was being too relaxed and telling me we have plenty of time but I don't want to forget anything!

confused107 · 16/09/2020 13:15

So, someone just mentioned to me that the sleeping bags might not be suitable for newborn babies as they need to be a minimum weight to sleep safely in them. Is this true and if so what is everyone planning to use for their newborns? x
