That is kind of true @confused107, you need to make sure that the head is big enough to not fit in to the head hole I.e. you have to unzip the baby to get it in, it can't just be pulled over its head rather than weight specifically - this is what The Lullaby Trust and my Health Visitor said. I'll be using a cellular blanket until baby's head is big enough (though it could be big enough when it is born, we just wont know until they are here).

peachypetite · 16/09/2020 13:55

@confused107 the sleeping bag should clearly say what weight it’s suitable for and agree with @Pinktruffle about the head.

Snowwhite2020 · 16/09/2020 13:58

@Asianchick6693 yes I think it varies and they also take into account your pelvis size and other things like that. Which all makes sense doesn’t it!

Totally understand why you worried about this- I did too at first 😘

loobeelou · 16/09/2020 14:36

@confused107 when DS was born we swaddled him in a muslin blanket. I did have a swaddle wrap but the velcro tabs were useless (could have been the wraps I'd bought!) so mainly used the muslin.
He was never a fan of the sleeping bags.

NaomiB79 · 16/09/2020 16:46

@confused107 I've bought some of these as they are designed for newborns (the neck hole is really small) and they can have arms in our out depending on if they like to be swaddled or not. I'll prob start off with cellular blankets tho in the hospital and at home then hopefully use these when I know she is big enough.

George at Asda have those on sale for £12.50 at the moment. I saw them online and was thinking of getting one

peachypetite · 16/09/2020 18:41

@Pinktruffle do you have a link?

confused107 · 16/09/2020 20:10

Thanks everyone I just ordered or from Asda in the sale, free click and collect!

Here is the link to the page they are on @peachypetite direct.asda.com/george/baby/bedding/D5M11G1C13,default,sc.html

NaomiB79 · 16/09/2020 21:49

@Pinktruffle @peachypetite I think that one is a bit different to the one I got, not sure it has holes for the arms to come out if you want them.

confused107 · 16/09/2020 22:31

This is the one I went for. Think you can have arms in and out. Doesn't state the tog but hopefully it will be ok direct.asda.com/george/baby/bedding/tommee-tippee-the-original-grobag-newborn-easy-swaddle-0-3m-baby-stars/050270369,default,pd.html?cgid=D5M11G1C13

Pinktruffle · 17/09/2020 00:07

Ahh fair enough @NaomiB79 . It's probably on there too as all most the Tommee Tippee stuff is on sale in the Asda site at the moment, I don't think the rest are as heavily discounted but still cheaper than elsewhere I think.

Pinktruffle · 17/09/2020 00:09

Actually, I just checked the description and it says the £12 one is arms in and out.

NaomiB79 · 17/09/2020 08:03

@Pinktruffle perfect that's a bargain then x

peachypetite · 17/09/2020 08:47

Fab thanks!
So, really randomly I have discovered my trust have relaxed their rules and partners have been allowed at scans again, allowed to stay in the midwife led unit. The hospital page hasn’t been updated. I found this out by joining their FB page. There is a forum coming up via zoom and I am definitely going to attend. It’s to discuss our experiences of our “care” - as someone who went from week 11 to 28 with no face to face midwife appointment I have a few things to say.

alphabetti · 17/09/2020 09:26

Yesterday I had a growth scan at 28+1. At 20+3 baby measured 11oz and I was told bit smaller than average but as I’m short Sonographer was not concerned but as my first dating scan had only been done at 18wks then had to be passed to consultant. Scan at 24+1 baby measured 1lb8oz and I was told had caught up to nearly average. Scan yesterday at 28+1 measured 2lb5oz and is back to being on same chart line as 20wk scan. Consultant says need another scan in 2 weeks to monitor growth and if not putting on enough weight will have to look into possible induction.

Other issue I have is that I had glucose tolerance test Monday and the blood taken after fasting was 4.something I can’t quite remember but they say not an issue. After drinking the glucose drink bloods taken 2hrs later were 9.3. So need to monitor blood now. Midwife took first sample and it was 4.9 which she said was fine. Blood last night 2hrs after eating macaroni cheese (Which I’ve since read is not great for diabetes but I’d already prepared it) was 5.9. Had a hot choc then water rest of evening and 7.10am this morning blood was 5.2.

I have no idea what is normal or not. Tried googling but not really found definite answer. The midwife said they can’t class it as gestational diabetes at moment but if shows it is they’ll induce early as can cause baby to grow to big. I looked at her and she said yes I know your baby showing to be smaller but placenta might have issues so that’s why we would induce regardless of weeks. I’ve been worried sick and spoke to my mum who says go with your gut and refuse induction as might end up with baby born too small which brings about issues. I’m only 28wks so still weeks to go but I’m just worried sick now.

Also had whooping cough, diphtheria and tetanus vaccination yday and my arm still throbbing. Baby is very active and head down tho so I’m pleased with that thinking aslong as she healthy. This is my 3rd baby but got large gap since having my older ones and I was 37 in summer so feeling on the old side.

Babyhope98 · 17/09/2020 09:39

My cousin has diabetes and blood sugar levels of 5 are good and normal @alphabetti obviously after the glucose drink was a bit high but if it’s at 5 at the moment that’s good x

Babyhope98 · 17/09/2020 09:43

If they induce you it’s unlikely I wouldn’t think to be before 37 weeks unless the baby was in distress and the benefits outweighed the risks. At 37 weeks they are fully formed and there lungs ready for the outside, so try not to worry I think unless it was absolutely necessary they wouldn’t induce you before then @alphabetti

alphabetti · 17/09/2020 11:09

@Babyhope98 thank you for that. I had to go to appointment alone and was in a bit of shock so didn’t think to ask the questions I now have. I do feel better now knowing levels of 5 are normal and guess il just have to keep monitoring and see how it goes.

My DS was born 39+4 7lb4oz and 38exactly 7lb0oz but was with my ex husband and he is big built whereas me and my partner smaller built so I was thinking baby could naturally be smaller.

Babyhope98 · 17/09/2020 11:41

Anyone else feeling exhausted I’m 30 weeks on Saturday and I keep coming over fatigued like I need to eat so I’m upping the eating. The baby has been moving a lot since too and really strong kicks my belly shakes so weird maybe that’s why I’m so tired i think she’s grown so much 😂

Asianchick6693 · 17/09/2020 12:26

@Babyhope98 I'm nearing 29 weeks and feel the same. Some days I have tonnes of energy though I don't know where from lol.

Also update for everyone. I contacted Occ health and quite disappointed with the advice. I'm a BAME employee and also considering I'm from Bolton where cases are the highest atm, apparently it's still safe for me to be at work? Even though my risk for getting covid is increased with being greater than 28 weeks pregnant, being a BAME employee too. The lady on the phone was like 'hmm I know it says that on the RCOG but our trust rules say as long as you're able to socially distance yourself you are fine.' My manager will argue that I can do this but I am in contact with my colleagues through out the day and I need to for the purpose of getting work done. Also they said don't touch covid-19 samples which I haven't been doing anyway. I don't know how to feel really.. no one thinks they can get covid but what happens if I do get it? Any advice girls?

MummyShark97 · 17/09/2020 12:27

@Babyhope98 so exhausted! It's the breathing too. Can't believe I'm 30 weeks on Saturday!

MummyShark97 · 17/09/2020 12:39

@Asianchick6693 that's weird because my midwife told me at my 28 week appointment that I should be working from home and seemed very adamant about it.

I am anyway and lucky that work is flexible.

Asianchick6693 · 17/09/2020 12:42

@MummyShark97 exactly! I work in a lab where they handle covid samples too! I don't really understand and I feel like I can't really fight my corner because the rules and advice are just so different everywhere.. because I am not patient facing that's why I think they feel that I am safe but what about facing my colleagues and other hospital staff or just being exposed in the hospital all day anyway? I don't know, guess I've got to hope that I don't get sick.
