Fettle- DS has to make an Egyptian Pyramid for school over the half term... we have constructed a model of Giza using paper mache... but is taking an eternity to dry... hence the hairdryer . Mind you, he is sporting a 'hoxton fin' at the moment!

fettleandbabyfettle · 22/10/2007 19:30

volcano - pyramid - all the same triangular shaped things to this exhausted mummy!!! Still in awe of you though!!!

Yikes - another load of posts to catch up on!!! We are now back from our mammoth trip down south and it all went really well (yes, I am pretty surprised!). Both boys were in great form particularly Max who was really chatty and entertaining. Some of my family at the Christening hadn't seen him for ages so it was great. The Christening itself was good except my DH (who is Godfather) was in charge of lighting the LO's candle but the main candle he had to light it from was far too big. My DH is 6ft so its not like he's tiny . Anyway he had to get a stool to reach up.... Pretty funny.

Anyway, popped on to see if Honeyapple popped but only twinges eh!?!? It'll be any day!!! I know it may be a bit annoying for you Honey but its great at building the suspense for us

Wow, Sexually arousing???? Breastfeeding???? What is that man on . There is nothing erotic about it at all, but what a strange thing to say in connection with the baby. I guess its a generation thing where boobs just weren't really used for BF much. He's obviously had no experience. You should feel free to BF anywhere and let him be the one to excuse himself. I know my FIL can't bear to be in the same room as me feeding Theo. I think he's just embarassed though.

God, I know what you mean Greedy and I've only got the 2 kids! On the drive down to London this weekend DH and I were saying the same thing. Why did we not do more when it was just the one baby to think about. In hindsight it was just so easy. As I've said before we got married when DS1 was 4 months old. We could have gone on the most amazing honeymoon with him as he was so portable . For some reason we just didn't think of it... Why not eh . Sorry to the first-timers, I'm not in any way saying you shouldn't feel knackered and over-whelmed by it all - I know I did with DS1 but its amazing how different it is when there is just the one.

grrr, here is DS1 stirring again!! We drove back from newcastle today at lunchtime and he fell asleep in the car. So now he's wide awake! And it doesn't help that they are digging up the main road outside our house (and DS1's bedroom window). He loved seeing all the trucks and diggers etc, but I'm sure its not helping him nod off.

Hi to everyone else!! Sorry for not doing a proper catch up - I will tomorrow when DS1 is back at nursery.

Bodkin · 22/10/2007 22:35

Another load of from me too about your FIL Mrs! How very inappropriate of him - and how completely wrong. I agree with Honeyapple, it is certainly pleasant to BF your baby once you get the hang of it, but not sexual! Has anyone else noticed the relaxing sensation you get before let-down kicks in? I never noticed it with DD1, but sometimes (particularly afternoon feeds) it's like being passed a mild spliff - makes me feel a bit sleepy and like the cushions I am leaning on feel a bit more comfy than they did... or am I just barking? Anyway, certainly makes me look forward to the next feed!

I have to say that I do prefer feeding in private. Not that I have any qualms about doing it in public if need be, but I just feel like she feeds better if it's quiet and cozy and just me and her, and if she pulls off and milk goes everywhere, I don't get all flustered!

Honeyapple - nice work on the Pyramid! Your DS sounds like such a dude with his Fin!

Fettle - I think we'll get a 2nd hand bike for DD first, just to see how she gets on, then if she takes to it we'll get her a nice shiny one next Xmas.

Sounds like you had a good trip Chooster. Good on you for getting out and about - I haven't even left Dorset since Isla was 2 weeks old!

I've been doing some research into slings. For DD1 we had a Baby Bjorn and it was brilliant - she loved it. But Isla really does not get on with it - hates all the palaver of being strapped in etc., so now I'm looking into pouch slings - much more "pop 'em in and off you go" I'm even considering making my own. Needless to say DP now thinks I've gone completely bonkers and Earth Mother. Especially when I got into bed with thick woolly socks on and full pyjamas last night. He gave me a bit of a but I just ignored him. It gets bloody cold when you're sitting up in bed at 3am feeding!

greedygreedyguzzler · 23/10/2007 12:06

god this is a crap time of year to have a new baby!!!(give me a summer baby anytime!!) i have had two really shit nights with both dds! dd1 has had a really high temperature so we have been flanneling her down and dosing her up with calpol. poor dd2 has been having real problems feeding cos she is so massively snotty. i am SO grumpy today cos i am tired and dh is back at work...typical! dd2 did a huge snotty puke yesterday when lying on her changing mat and it went straight up in the air and then back down in her face...............might have been quite funny if i didnt feel so sorry for her. she had sick in her eyes, ears and up her nose bless her.

saw the health visitor yesterday and OH MY GOD can she talk........she is worse than my mum and that is really saying something!didnt really realise how guilty i felt about not BFing until i saw the HV. i was telling her that i was worried that dd had caught this cold because i had stopped feeding her myself and i suddenly burst into tears!.........think she now has me noted as a potential PND mum!

ready - hopefully you will be back soon with some good news for us, but in the meantime i will miss you on here!

mrs - my friend did TCOYOF backwards as a way NOT to get pg and she is due in 2 weeks time!!!!! dont worry about sex.you will soon get back on track. i think it is the people who aren't bothered by the lack of it who never get back on track properly. so i am sure as soon as you are both up for it again you will be wearing that mrsmcclaus outfit you got all over again! prob wont fit you this xmas actually will it!! AND yuk yuk yuk to what your fil said about BF!!! !one of my friends with no kids asked me that too......people really dont have a clue how NON sexual it is, i hate the fact that some people think it is.YUK!!!

MrsMcSpooky · 23/10/2007 12:53

Hey ladies

Honeyapple ? I am so glad you think that I think DH thought it was odd too and was embarrassed when I mentioned it to him last night. His Dad can be a little ?sexual? I think he was a really good looking guy once and got away with it but it is just a bit gross coming from an old man. LOL at your fighting spirit! oh no, I can?t BF in front of him with him thinking I am getting off on it, I just couldn?t! mind you, it?s a great excuse to disappear for hours one end if they crowd me!!

Fettle ? I really am so glad you all think that I am right to be affronted and that I am not being a prude!

Hey Chooster ? welcome back glad you had a lovely time DH and I had a terrible and really embarrassing experience with one of those candles at a Christening. It was my BF from school?s baby?s christening and after the service we went up to the alter to see the baby, DH knocked the candle over and it poured wax all over my head, face and dress and it was boiling hot, I was so embarrassed, I ran out of the church only to meet a whole crowd of press (my friend?s husband is a big wig ) ? god, I was mortified, it was in my eyelashes and everything! Glad you think my FIL was out of line too. I think having kids must be like progressing through the stages of an instrument or something, the first stage i.e. having one is hard and you get through it but then going up a level and having a second shows you how much easier it was when you had one but that is only because you have had so much experience and practice with one ? it would be al almighty shock to jump straight to stage 2!

Bodkin ? thank you interesting what you say about the slings. My sis is lending me a Baby Bjorn but I know that DH is keen for us to get a pouch one so that we can do stuff around the house with it if we want to ? he liked that idea when he saw it on BUB!

Hey Greedy ? oh dear, sorry you are having a tough time hon! LOL at your friend maybe it?s not an exact science! What a good memory ? I looked at the Miss Santa outfit in the drawer and really don?t see it fitting this year, might have to make some adaptations! Thank you for agreeing with me about my FIL ? it really offends me that feeding a baby could be interpreted as sexual getting yourself off.

Funny thing, last night DH asked me out of the blue if I peed on sticks when we were TTC ? turns out one of his work colleagues asked him outright if I did (a female) ? he told her that he remembered me thrusting some stick in his face on a couple of occasions ? its funny how little he knew of what we were doing ? those were the BFPs not OV tests!! He never even knew about the Pre Seed

honeyapple · 23/10/2007 14:12

afternoon all...

Greedy- poor old Marcy and DD1. I have never had a summer baby... was planning it this time around!! The good thing is when it is summer these LO will be a lovely age. My DD had a rotten cold when she was newborn despite me BF, so I dont think you can really prevent it... unless you live in a bubble and have no other DC.

Mrs- ah yes the infamous mrs santa outfit, I remember it too . As for sex, agree with Greedy- I blooming hope we will be getting back on track when this LO gets out!

to everyone else.

Just been to see Ratatouille, quite fun... a bit long... amazing animation... 3/5 ?
DD was very good and didnt wiggle once, although I think she was falling asleep!

MrsMcSpooky · 23/10/2007 16:41

Thanks for defending me on that other thread Honey it might have been a daft question but I don't see why people have to be so snide do you?

Rainbowdays · 23/10/2007 16:47

afternoon all, just here to say hello quickly before I go home to my latest digs.

honeyapple · 23/10/2007 17:49

No worries Mrs!

Hi rainbowdays- how you feeling? Still being a bit cloak and dagger about what you do... you're going to start us having to guess...

seaside72 · 23/10/2007 22:13

Hi everyone - I'm back online too - and there is soo much to catch up on!!!

Greedy - I did manage to get online the weekend before last and saw that Marcy had arrived - but I could not post as hotel PC kept logging me off Anyway - will try and catch up on the full story but massive congrats and so happy for you and all the greedy family!

Anyway - I am going to try and get up to speed with everyone's news but just wanted to say hi and big hugs and waves to everyone - I've missed you all

Rainbowdays · 24/10/2007 11:17

seaside and Iampg - hey it is great to have you both back again. how are you both doing?

Honeyapple - sorry I am being a bit obscure about what I do, I will tell all of you via email, but will not put my boring job on here (or where I live!!!). So if I have raised enough curiosity for you, then email me on thingingoftrying at yahoo dot co dot uk! I will let you know all my secrets there!!!!!

MrsMc - my dh is oblivious to all the peeing on stick things too, even on the third time round!

Rainbowdays · 24/10/2007 11:38

Greedy - hope all the kiddies are feeling better now, and that you are getting less interrupted sleep.

Bodkin - I agree with the needing to be cosy warm when feeding at night... not motherearth to me, but dh's what do they know!

fettle - as I mentioned to honey, if you want more info on what I do (it is not that interesting really) or where I normally live (now that is different!) then I need you to email me as I will not be posting it on here (I know I am weird sometimes!). Ready already knows!

OK got to get back to work again now.
chat later

Bodkin · 24/10/2007 12:05

Hi all

Iampg and Seaside - great to have you back!

Greedy - hope things are getting a bit better for you. It's awful when they're all poorly together and it seems to be a constant round of nursing and mopping up snot, sick, poo etc. Get some DVDs in for the kids, a nice duvet on the sofa for you and try and get as much kip as you can!

Had a duff night last night myself - Isla sometimes (still) likes to chuck up quite heftily after a feed, and did so at 4.30 am covering me and her in snotty puke. Then she was wide awake for ages. I think I managed another 30 mins kip before DD1 got up. Luckily, my mum is here at the mo and she has taken DD1 over to my sisters so i can have a kip while Isla does, and I think she has finally napped off now so better get my head down.

Sorry, bit me me me. Will catch up properly later. This can't be good for the mum's in waiting, reading all this moaning about our babies! Sorry!

honeyapple · 24/10/2007 14:13

Hiya,

Still no baby here...

Just been down the park to steal some sand out the sandpit for DS's pyramid . It's bloody freezing here, a real winter nip in the air. Doesnt help that our local swingpark is huge and totally unsheltered from roaring wind coming across football pitches. Very grim in the winter. This is when I miss the lovely park we had in London which was all trees and sheltered nooks. Anyway...

Rainbowdays- even more mysterious! Ha, only joking. I dont blame you not wanting to post too much personal info.

Seaside and Iampg- lovely to have you back online . How are you both feeling? I guess your bumps are getting pretty impressive now.

DD is watching video, DS is out at a funday at the leisure centre... so I am going to sit in front of tele and do b*gger all for the next hour.

x

Firsty ? hello

Greedy & Chooster & Ready ? hello!!

fettleandbabyfettle · 24/10/2007 17:40

Hello all

Mrs, forgot me, I'm now! Good luck for tomorrow Mrs - hope you manage to get some sleep done. My tired brain has forgotten again when your scan is?

Spent yesterday at hospital again having Toby's jaundiced checked out. HV thought it best to have his bilirubin levels checked again, as he's doing green poos and is still very yellow and sleepy. Another long wait and lots of screaming for from the poor boy while the incompentent junior doctor tried to squeeze some blood from his heel for the test [another doctor came in and said, oh I thought it was you doing a heel prick from the screams! - poor Toby - obviously not very competent at it - anyway, with some help from this other doctor, she got enough blood for the test - anyway his levels have fallen from 225 to 184 in nearly 3 weeks, so going down, but very slowly. She said that it's doing him no harm, and i should keep breast-feeding him. As for his sleepiness and very slow movements when he is awake, "he's just slower than other babies!" - now I'm worried I've got a mentally challenged baby!! But I think she meant just a gentler/lazy baby! (fettle hopes!)

Anyway, Iampg and Seaside - great to hear from you both again - in that weird stalker-kind of way, I was thinking of you both last night while I was feeding (thank goodness we've cleared up that breast-feeding isn't sexually arousing, or you'd be really worried!!!). Anyway, was thinking that we haven't heard from you both in ages and hoping all was ok - looking forward to having you around more often!

Honey - I'm going to report you to the Kentish council for sand stealing!!!! Can't believe what a great mother you are, while so very pg as well! Certainly coping with the hip pain still?!

Bodkin - sorry you had a bad night with Isla - hopefully you'll have a better one tonight. Doesn't seem to be anything we can do to get Toby not to wake at 2am and 4am and then again at 5am when he seems to be wide-awake - hopefully soon.

Anyway, going to have to take DD upstairs for her bath - she's had an exhausting day of swimming (I went to watch and haven't seen her since the Sunday before Toby was born, so 5.5 weeks and she has improved so much). Swims down to the bottom really happily and has had most of her floats from her jacket taken out, so it won't be long before she's swimming unaided I don't think.

Right - can't quite believe it, but she has just told me to get off the puter and come upstairs to bath her!!! she must be tired!!!!

Hi Fettle

I seem to be ok at the moment with the hips in the daytime so long as I dont overdo it. It tends just to hurt more in the evening.

Well I am feeling loads of pressure down below, feel like babies head is already in my poonani ... although, sorry if TMI, just been for a pee and thought I'd have a quick feel inside, and couldnt feel my cervix at all... I mean... where has it gone??? So dont think I'll be doing the Greedy tactic of getting DH to attempt a sweep .

DP has just said that he has been asked to go away with work on monday for the night... like WTF!!!! Hell NO!

fettleandbabyfettle · 24/10/2007 20:23

say no honey!!! Remember my dh was supposed to be goiing on a team building event in wales? I got myself induced to stop him!!!!

chooster - glad you had agood time and the boys behaved! Poor DH!

Greedy - sorry marcy not well - poor girl with the pukey sick. I think Toby is getting DD's cold as he sounds very snuffly when feeding. I've not got it yet so can't have the antibodies so won't be protecting him anyway - so don't you worry bout not breast-feeding. you'll hsve given him the important ones like chicken pox etc in the colostrum in first few days.

right off to finally re-sort kitchen cupboards now we have the new ones in - almost have too much space now!!!

OP posts:
Chooster · 24/10/2007 20:41

Ahh, still no time to catch up properly from when I was away - where does the time go???? Speaking of which have you found your cervix yet Honeyapple. That must be fairly distressing . That baby will be out before you know it... Going away with work on Monday night - Surely he'll be on patermity leave by then . By the way can you take a picture of the pyramid? It sounds pretty impressive, would love to see it . I hope I'm as good at this sort of thing when DS's are older .

Gosh, so what do you do then rainbow??? If MrsMc knows I'll have to ask her to text me to let me know . I'm SO nosy .

Anyway, good to see some familiar faces back again - we've missed you all

Can't be too long as DS2 is squeaking as he had his second lot of injections today - poor lamb. He was full of smiles for the HV, I really felt for him knowing what was about to happen . Had his weight and height done and he's on the 75th percentile for both so he's doing well

Fettle - I really hope Toby perks up soon and you dont have to worry about this anymore. Clever Toby is just conserving his energy which is why he may not be flailing his arms and legs around.

Sorry for the bad night Bodders. I've had a couple of those recently... the last was Sat night and when the warm sick drenched me I just sat there for what seemed like about 10 mins thinking "Shit.... - must cleant this up". Its rotten isn't it.

Hi Greedy - hope the kids are all feeling better.

Right, Theo really means it now - he's not happy - see you later

Bodkin · 24/10/2007 20:44

Fettle - Well it sounds like Toby is improving slowly but surely. He doesn't sound too sleepy to me if he's up at 2,4 and 5 Is he sleeping for long stretches (i.e. more than 3 hours at a time) in the day? If so, it could be a good idea to wake and feed him after 3 hours asleep. If he drops off mid-feed, try and change his nappy to rouse him and finish the feed off. With Isla, I used to feed one side (with a couple of breaks for winding) and then when she had finished that, put her on the play mat with nappy off for a good 20 mins while she had a kick around and made space for a bit more milk, then give her the other side. You might well already be doing all this anyway

Honeyapple - hope you weren't spotted by the Parky on your sand stealing mission! I've got visions of your picture on the front page of the local paper "Pregnant Woman Caught Stealing Sand!"
Hope your cervix is still there and just a bit shy. It's awful that feeling of pressure down below isn't it - but hope it means little Honey is on his way!

MrsMc - Your thread has made it on to "Discussions of the Day"! That is so exciting you are doing your hospital bag already! It's lovely reading your posts and threads - reminds me of how it feels to be expecting your first!

Anyone want to hear something really gross? Look away now if you are a bit squeamish! My mus has been staying for a few days, and she came down with her friend who has a lovely but mad springer spaniel. Anyway, earlier on today, I had left Isla in the baby gym, nappy off, as usual, while I made a quick cup of tea in the kitchen. When I went back into the living room, Isla had obviously just done a wee (there was a terry nappy underneath her), and the bloody dog (who, it later transpires, had not been given a drink all day) was there, lapping it up off her fanjo Still, saved a baby wipe I suppose . Thank god she is too little to understand! The other thing the dog did while staying with us, was in the middle of the night, he came up to my room and was padding and snuffling about. I turned on the light to shoo it out, only to see he was chewing on one of my (used) breast pads! FGS!

Hello everyone else

Bodkin · 24/10/2007 20:48

Hi Chooster - aah, yes the feeling of warm sick. How we'll miss it when they stop doing that

BTW, I just reread my last post - full of typos! I meant that my MUM came to stay!

fettleandbabyfettle · 24/10/2007 21:09

Hey - I know someone famous!! Mrs got put on the front page!!!!

Thanks for the advice, Bodkin - he does wake for feeding around every 2-3 hours and does have some awake time, just not very often or for long and when he is awake, he waves his arms around in slow fashion like he's on the moon or something!!! I've not yet seen all 4 limb movement at the same time, although DH said he did, during a wakeful period at 4am a couple of nights ago!!

Forgotten i used to do that kind of thing with DD (naked kicking!!). Just don't seem to have the time this around, as poor Toby needs to work around DD's routine! But when out and about he does sleep for hours on end - I wake him up to pop boob in mouth, but he doesn't really wake up and there isn't much chance for naked kicking while we're out shopping! Although I could do it in the carry-cot pram - could you imagine the shock when the little old ladies ask for a look!!! Particularly if he decided to wee at just that point!! On that point, couldn't decide whether you spaniel/fanjo story was funny or not!! Dogs are weird creatures!!

Chooster - Theo's doing well by the sounds of it. Sorry he's feeling poorly at the moment though. Not had Toby measured yet - not sure if they ever do that round here!

right - sleeping time now, if I can settle my restless toby tortoise!!
