@spierse so sorry SadSad I hope you have good support around you ❤️

FireflyGirl · 06/09/2020 19:45

@BS9790 I have used a lot of different slings - the best thing would honestly be to contact a sling library after baby is born and discuss options with them.

Some babies like wraps, others won't tolerate them at all but like being in a buckled carrier as they're more structured. They'd recommend different slings for pootling around the house with a velcro baby as opposed to opting for a sling over a pram.

Also, different styles of carrier suit different body shapes - you don't want one that's going to give you backache!

I think when most people think of a sling/carrier they are thinking of something like the Close Caboo which is quite structured but does involve some tying.

Another, more hard-wearing and more expensive option are the Ergobaby carriers, which are classed as 'full buckles', as they don't involve tying anything. They are suitable from birth with an insert and the 360 ones are designed to properly support baby in a forward facing position for when they get older and more nosy. I had one of the original ones 5 years ago, and they are proper workhorses, but there were a lot of dodgy fakes at the time (I don't know about now) so you'd need to be careful where you bought from.

I have also used a half buckle, a ring sling and a traditional woven wrap, as well as hybrids.

There's a site called wearmybaby which has lots of info.

BS9790 · 06/09/2020 22:39

@FireflyGirl thanks, that's really helpful.

I would like to try one of the softer/stretchy style ones, really for around the house/quick dog walks round the block. I would probably get a 2nd hand one to start with to see if it was suitable for me/baby. I'd been looking at the close caboo, koala babycare carrier and the ktan baby carrier. The ktan looks really easy to wear but you have to order the correct size, which I'd probably get wrong 🤣

I don't think sling libraries will be functioning at the moment, I did have a look to see if there was anything nearby but couldn't find one. I will have another search and also look at the "wear my baby" site you suggested 👍👍

Ejb86 · 07/09/2020 06:29

@BS9790 with George I went to the sling library and we got a wrap. George and I are both naturally very warm so we got sweaty and sticky and didn't use it very much. We then got a izmi breeze which has mesh panels and kept us cooler.

Sling libraries are very handy for trying out different options and reasonable prices to hire them out. Xx

BecsterG · 07/09/2020 10:25

@BS9790 I too have a ergobaby 360. It is expensive but I think it's worth the money. I didn't use a carrier that much with my first, I love pushing a pram but I will this time as we'll no doubt spend more times in parks etc where carrier might be more useful. I liked it because you could carry a new born, have the baby face you or face forward, on your hip or you could put it on your back so good for all different ages. 👍🏻

I agree though if you can get to a sling library and try some on as it's a personal preference. Or if you know friends who have slings/carriers try there's on and see.

BS9790 · 07/09/2020 14:21

I can't seem to find any sling library info, thinking they probably aren't running due to covid. Hopefully they might be later in the year.

I've been in for monitoring again today after a couple of quiet days movement wise and virtually no movement this morning. Was on the monitor for ages & it was repeated after a scan, as babies heart rate was really high.
It settled eventually and they were happy there was no underlying reason other than him having a wiggle (that I couldn't feel!)... Must admit I've come home feeling more anxious then when I went in now 😩😩

AlviesMam · 07/09/2020 14:46

@BS9790 I find going in for monitoring doesn't help my anxiety because I'm constantly waiting for movement and watching her heart rate go up and down!

It's frustrating to think baby is quite big now and we still get quiet days like how is that possible when the baby is 4lbs+ ?! Stupid placenta Sad

Hope your okay! And try not to panic. If Midwife's weren't concerned then you shouldn't be Smile

Leok83 · 08/09/2020 15:11

12 week scan all went well😊 measuring 3 days ahead today so they said they will just keep me the same so they're still calling it 11+6 today and DD 24th March. So delighted to have it done!
Next scan won't be until 22 weeks so I imagine I'll be booking a private one in the mean time! Also looking into trying to get the harmony test done too. Have any of you gone for this? With the anomaly scan so far away I think we'll do it as it's so long to be stressing.

SunnySideUp2020 · 08/09/2020 15:17

@Leok83 amazing news lovely!!! Big step here 💖
I have mine on 23rd. Cannot wait!
We are doing NIPT either next week or at the 12 week scan. I think it's the same as harmony.

Had first midwife appointment today it took ages but she is great so feeling pretty good.
Had bloods and swabs done and urine to drop later this week. They are very thorough!
I also have to do a colposcopy on 5th october due to having CIN1 and abnormal cells on my cervix still in March.

BecsterG · 08/09/2020 18:56

That's brilliant news @Leok83. Such a nice feeling to get through the 12 weeks scan!

I think some of the girls on here have had the harmony test. Maybe @ChampooPapi?

@SunnySideUp2020 oh wow how can they remove the cells from your cervix whilst pregnant? I didn't think that was possible. Is this your first time? Yeah be had it done a few times now.

@MrsB16 how are you settling into your new house? How are things? Not long to go?

I think our house will be finished at the end of next week! So excited for it to be done. It's looking better and better by the day but my god it's going to need scrubbed. Not sure I have the energy to do it. Will just have to take one room at a time and take it slowly. I'm finding everything challenging now.

Great news @Leok83 congratulations 🥳 so pleased for you!
Still not got my 12 week scan appt through yet and I’m 10 weeks on Friday! Got my first face to face midwife appt for bloods etc so will ask them to chase it up then if still not heard!
Exciting re: your house @BecsterG! Just don’t overdo it with the cleaning! xx

scrumdiddly123 · 08/09/2020 19:37

Great news your appt went well @SunnySideUp2020! How are you feeling now symptom wise?
Hope the colposcopy goes ok, I also didn’t realise they could still do it when pregnant!

MilsCookie · 08/09/2020 19:53

@Leok83 that's brilliant news lovely!! This one is your sticky bean 🌈 😍 so so happy for you!

@SunnySideUp2020 hope the colposcopy goes okay 😘

@BecsterG that's so excited about the house and just in time! We got the keys for our new house yesterday so we're now gradually moving things in! So nice to finally have a HOME! 🏡 can't wait to nest 🥰

BecsterG · 08/09/2020 20:04

How exciting @MilsCookie. I bet that feels amazing to finally have a home! Make sure you take it easy moving your things in.

FireflyGirl · 08/09/2020 20:06

Great news, @Leok83.

I haven't had the nipt, so can't comment on that but 22 weeks is bit late long time for your anomoly scan - NHS guidance is for it to be between 18-20+6 weeks. I'd query that with your midwife.

Not long now, @SunnySideUp2020!

ChampooPapi · 08/09/2020 20:49

@Leok83 great news on your scan lovely, so happy for you! I had the nipt and would definitely recommend it. There is plenty of old Mumsnet threads explaining how much more accurate it is then the NHS one as well as explaining the inns and outs of it. Sorry I'm really tired today and weak, I put a lot of info myself on it too as did a lot of research into it, so you can always advance search my user name and 'harmony' or 'nipt'. It's worth it for sure, it really was supposed to be replacing the NHS one pre covid as that is only around 78 Percent accurate but now it looks like that won't happen for a long time.

I will update the list 🙌🌈👣

ChampooPapi · 08/09/2020 20:55

Sorry @Leok83 I'm confused 🤦 I have you as 11.5 for last week so you'd be 12.5 today, or did you loose a week? Or are you 12.6 days? My brain is gone so help a sister out!

ChampooPapi · 08/09/2020 21:38

I've got to hit the hay now so I'll just do 11 weeks six days and we can always amend it next week ☺️

ChampooPapi · 08/09/2020 21:40

Oh yes actually I kind of understand because I added your six days last week. Doh. God this list has boggled my brain this week, I'm being an absolute idiot 🤦

Leok83 · 08/09/2020 21:53

Thanks everyone😊

@SunnySideUp2020 ouch the colposcopy sounds pretty invasive, poor you. Glad your midwife booking went well and she was so nice..must say mine was nice but she was just not overly full of personality or information.
Have found a place close by that does the harmony test so will prob organise it for next week.

@BecsterG so exciting with the new house!! Although I don't envy you the clean up it will still be so good to get jnto your own place when it's all done!

@scrumdiddly123 they are leaving it really late to notify you of the scan aren't they. Here they do the booking appt and scan the same day. The scan was very quick today though and they didn't do heartbeat so I'm glad we got the private one last week where she was really thorough and let us listen to heartbeat (and DH got to be there!). It also majorly helped me being by myself today knowing that all was good last week! It seems you guys in UK get more from the 12 week scan than we do..do they do NT measurements with you too? They don't here which I was disappointed with.

Leok83 · 08/09/2020 21:57

Thanks @ChampooPapi and yes that's right 11+6!!

@FireflyGirl ya I did think that's quite late. I've an antenatal appt in another 4 weeks so I'll mention it to them then. Thanks!

SunnySideUp2020 · 09/09/2020 05:37

@Leok83 wait. They don't do NT measurements at yours?
But isn't that the point of 12 week scan? To do screening with measurements and bloods?
I am confused!!!

@scrumdiddly123 if you dont get a date by next week i would call them up to make sure they haven't forgotten about you!

Symptoms wise i have to say the past two days have been very quiet. Giving nightmares that something is off.
My boobs are definitely not as huge and feeling bruised anymore. And my nausea has stayed away... MW said perhaps my body is adjusting but it is causing me a lot of anxiety especially at night.
DP said either way nothing we can do...
How are yours?

@BecsterG great news on the house!!! Just in time. Hopefully 😆

As for colposcopy. It is just too have a look at this stage and they will not touch the cervix unless there is a massive obvious problem. I doubt they will even take biopsy. But they need to see the extent of it i guess...

ChampooPapi · 09/09/2020 07:31

@Leok83 are you in Ireland?
