@ChilternsHan with my daughter I think we bought two baby gros when I was around 14/15 weeks. Only a few few later we found out what we were having.

This time I won’t be buying anything until October when we have our gender scan. Also in November, the baby show is happening so we may go there to look at prams etc

ChubbyMumFromSkye · 02/09/2020 10:40

Welcome @jopotter 😊

@Sussexbysea I am from the Isle of Skye, as my name suggests.

@LuHen great advice - the hospital phoned me to say that DH was allowed to come to 12 weeks scan, but the letter I got still has the sticker on it saying no DPs.
I phoned to double check and yes they are allowed so it is definitely worth phoning to ask, even if it says on your letter they aren't allowed!

Good luck everyone with scans today/tomorrow and the rest of the week!

I have bought a few bits - things like muslins which I went through a tonne of the last time (8 years ago!!), also bought some unisex newborn sleep suits & vests to put into my hospital bag 🥰 I won't buy too much else clothes wise but will start buying changing bag, nappies etc as time goes on. I thought with Christmas coming soon too (sorry!) that I would start buying things in dribs and drabs as Christmas seems to fly in ever year! And then it will be March...!!! 💞🌟

ChilternsHan · 02/09/2020 10:54

@DSP21 a spreadsheet, you sound like my sort of person! Mine will likely be a Google sheet that I share with my husband and he opens maybe once.

We aren't finding out the sex so anything we get will be neutral-ish anyway so no worries there. I think it will definitely increase the excitement so perhaps I'll let myself do a little order!

LottieX · 02/09/2020 10:59

@Sussexbysea ooo what is the baby show?

I need literally everything because it's my first! I was meant to have my 12 week scan on Saturday but I'm away for the weekend so rescheduled until next Wednesday, I guess little baby will just have more time to grow!

I'm about 30 mins from Bath in a little village and luckily we're allowed partners into scans at the moment

Sussexbysea · 02/09/2020 11:16

@LottieX it’s where all the brands go to the exhibition centre and then offer discounts on their products. They do kids of freebies too.

Where I live there isn’t anywhere to look at baby stuff like prams etc so the baby show will be the best place for me. Mothercare will be sold in boots stores soon but depending on how big the store is depends one why they have to offer

Charlotte2020 · 02/09/2020 11:40

@DSP21 I'm glad I'm not the only one putting together a spreadsheet! I've done a list of stuff to buy, costs & links to websites! Need to whittle the costs down somehow as it's a bit frightening!

DSP21 · 02/09/2020 11:47

@Charlotte2020 wow! You're ahead of the game! My husband is an excel whizz so i'm leaving it upto him but I'm sure it will contain all sorts of formulas and charts to track everything 😂 i'll be happy to share whenever we get round to it. We'll be having a baby shower (if allowed) later down the line so assuming will get lots of bits there too so don't want to go overboard before then!

Taylortyler · 02/09/2020 11:49

@Sussexbysea I'm in a little village in Kent

I don't dare buy anything until the 12 week scan and I have one on Friday (I'll be 11+5) but I'm terrified it'll be bad news because I had a bit of bleeding. I have my actual 12 week scan Thursday 10th so all going well on Friday I'll get to see the baby twice! I'm definitely going to ring both hospitals- I go to a different one on Friday to next week.

Anyone else super emotional- I got told I have to go back into the office from next week (been wfh) and nearly cried- so embarrassing! Blush

aureliacecilia · 02/09/2020 12:04

How did your scan go @Sussexbysea? Hope all is well!

I won't buy anything until 20 weeks as that's what we did with DS. I don't think there's actually anything we need other than a new mattress for our Snuzpod. I need to get that back from a friend who is using it first! Her baby will be one in a couple of months so they're definitely not using it now. I'm likely co-sleeping once the Snuzpod is outgrown so not sure I'll even buy a cot.

Mrs1989 · 02/09/2020 13:18

@Sussexbysea I live in a town in Cambridgeshire Smile

With regards to partners at scans, my appointment letter said they weren’t allowed and I just accepted that, but I just did a google search and it seems my local hospital changed the rules in JULY! I will ring to double-check but it is looking like DH may be able to attend Smile But he will have to wait outside and then I call him when they call me into the screening room. It would have been good if they’d updated the info they send out with the letter, as I had that in August, but at least we know now!

I wasn’t sure when to start buying stuff. Perhaps if 12 week scan goes well we may allow ourselves to buy a few basic unisex things and muslins. This will be my first so I am clueless! DH is also a whizz on Excel so maybe a spreadsheet is the way to go! We have an M&S voucher for just over £100 that we need to spend by Christmas so I think we will make use of that and have a bit of a splurge then! I had a quick look at all the clothes they have on offer and it made my head spin a bit to be honest! And all the flipping sizes! How do you know what to go for?! I’m guessing it may be better to go a little bigger, but I’ll worry about all of that further down the line xxx

Sussexbysea · 02/09/2020 13:37

@aureliacecilia it’s tomorrow. The midwife just called to make sure I’m ok for tomorrow too

LottieDot · 02/09/2020 13:39

If our 12 week scan goes well we're going to go and pick out a little sleepsuit, I just want something cute to mark the day and I just can't resist baby clothes. Everything else we'll wait until we know the sex. Its our first and we need everything so I'll probably be starting a spreadsheet soon too haha. Its the big things that stress me out, mainly pushchairs as there's sooooo much choice. Im going to have to do a lot of research I think!

aureliacecilia · 02/09/2020 13:45

I might get a Jellycat bunny after our scan. I always wanted one for DS but I never could justify the money and now his room is overwhelmed with soft toys!

Sorry @Sussexbysea - I got confused! Best of luck tomorrow. I have less than two weeks to go now. It was meant to be next week but I couldn't make the appointment because of the school run so I've got some extra time to wait!

ElsiesJourney · 02/09/2020 13:49

NHS Scan later on today (I'm 13 exactly today) and a total Whirlwind of emotions....

we haven't bought anything yet but definitely at the 'making a list/ spreadsheet' stage!!

holb54 · 02/09/2020 14:00

@JTB123 thanks you're probably right, it's so hard not to stress out at this time!

@DSP21 going to steal your spreadsheet idea, I'm such a planner and I love the idea! Grin

holb54 · 02/09/2020 14:04

@LottieDot I'm thinking of doing that, just something to mark the occasion if all goes well (please God).. it's my first as well, there's so much to buy and trying to decide on what you really need/what brands 🥴

ChilternsHan · 02/09/2020 14:14

@ElsiesJourney good luck for your scan. I know what you mean about the whirlwind of emotions, my heart was in my mouth all day yesterday and who knows where my stomach was Confused

Sussexbysea · 02/09/2020 14:18

For all those wanting jelly cats - sometimes tk maxx have some ones in there. My local garden centre sell loads of them, they even have the fruit and veg ones

Charlotte2020 · 02/09/2020 15:27

@ElsiesJourney good luck with your scan! I teared up with relief when then said good heartbeat, healthy size etc! I was so worried it would all go wrong!

There's so much choice of everything I've totally overwhelmed- don't even know where to start with prams. I know I don't want the iCandy model my friend has- barely fitted through my front door and was the weight of a tank!

Sussexbysea · 02/09/2020 15:37

Well, the tears have started. I’m so anxious about tomorrow. I’m so worried they’ll tell me the baby is poorly and I’ll have to make a decision and my mind is racing. Please don’t tell me that I don’t need to make a decision, it’s not what I need to hear right now.

I know this is a normal way to feel but it feels like my head is going to explode.

Anyone else feeling like this?

ChubbyMumFromSkye · 02/09/2020 15:47

@Sussexbysea sorry you are feeling so anxious, could you and Dp do something nice together tonight like go out for a last minute meal or you have a relaxing bath with nice music etc? Be good to yourself 💞

Sussexbysea · 02/09/2020 15:53

@ChubbyMumFromSkye we’ve got a 3 year old so getting out during the week is tough.

I do have a lovely bath bomb waiting to be used. I might find chill out music and have that tonight. Thank you for listening and replying to me.

I just feel very overwhelmed today x

DSP21 · 02/09/2020 15:54

@Sussexbysea me me me. There is nothing anyone can even say right now that will make anything better, it's just a case of trying to keep busy (and staying off google) i've even gotten to the point of researching missed misscarriages, what could go wrong, what my options might be etc it's stupid and negative but I can't help it.

I don't feel pregnant at all and tomorrow it may turn out that i'm symptomless and lucky, or unlucky..

Vent as much as you need to on here we're here for you

holb54 · 02/09/2020 15:55

@Sussexbysea I'm sorry you're feeling so anxious, I've my scan Monday and I can't even think of it I'm so nervous and pessimistic about it. Maybe something to try distract yourself for a few hours, a movie or a book? I know it's not always that easy but it's helped me a few times. Be kind to yourself and I'll be thinking of you tomorrow 💓

ChubbyMumFromSkye · 02/09/2020 15:58

@Sussexbysea no problem, thats what we are all here for ☺️

If you fancy it, pretend that it is the weekend and go out anyway! Or enjoy your bath bomb with lovely music - you just reminded me I have one to use too!

It's ok to cry and feel anxious, you aren't alone. Just do what you have to do to make you feel a bit better or relax 💞
