@DSP21 haven't had hives but my skin has been awful irritable lately, not sure if it's pregnancy related or not though! If you haven't changed anything like foods or cleaners maybe it's the folic acid? I've heard it can make your skin irritated!

aureliacecilia · 28/08/2020 11:04

Not long to wait now @TheFoz! I'm a couple of weeks behind you so mine is on 15th. 10+1 today and I'll be 12+5 then. I can't wait to get it over and done with as I can't really allow myself to get too excited or think too far ahead in case it's a MMC or baby hasn't developed properly or a whole host of other nightmare scenarios. I've chosen not to book in for any early scans as I thought it might worry me more if my dates were off and I'd still probably be fretting about the 12 week scan!

NoGinNotComingIn · 28/08/2020 11:28

@Calgoose I'm 36 (37 vv soon!) and not referred to a geriatric mother, it's over 40 where you fall into that category and need to be monitored more. My age has never been mentioned.

I've had 2 hospital births, both had issues during labour that would have meant I'd have ended up in hospital anyway, all turned out fine as I was in hospital. I think the risks, particularly with a first baby, outweigh the gain of having a homebirth. It's obviously personal preference. My friend lives in the arse end of nowhere and had vv fast labours (under an hour!) even with her second she opted for hospital. Her sister in law is a gp and said to her it's risky, if it goes wrong it goes very wrong, you aren't an emergency buzzer away from help, you are an ambulance ride away, and a long one for her. I actually felt safe when I arrived at hospital, it was as though I thought to myself ok if something does happen now, I can be helped. I did have a fleeting moment of thinking about a home birth for the second but we'd just renovated our house and had pale grey carpets put down throughout, the thought of ruining my carpets swayed it!

Sussexbysea · 28/08/2020 11:31

@DSP21 ME!!!! Mine was horrendous.

DSP21 · 28/08/2020 11:38

@holb54 @Sussexbysea

I'm so glad it's not just me!! I've been freaking out about it, googling 'hives linked to miscarriage' and driving myself crazy. I'm sure it's just a reaction to the tablets or hormones and I'm glad I finally have a symptom! How are you coping with it? Applying anything in particular?

chloxhunt · 28/08/2020 12:00

Does anyone only feel like crap when they're at home? I was away for a few days and completely fine not including a migraine i got but now I'm back home I feel sick constantly again

Oldermum80 · 28/08/2020 12:04

Follow up scan. Dated 10 weeks 3 days (3 days ahead of LMP, last time dated me 2 days behind) Considering I’ve been here twice, I was totally amazed to see it move and hear the heartbeat. Feels very surreal after two mc and I had already planned what I was asking for as I expected another MMC. Can’t quite believe it 😊

Oldermum80 · 28/08/2020 12:05

@chloxhunt me! I was away last weekend, felt great! Went into work to prep for going back, felt great. Whenever I’m in the house, feel like death, really tired and down.

Sam202020 · 28/08/2020 12:05

@DSP21 I haven't had hives but I suffer with eczema and stupidly sensitive skin and that has gotten worse since being pregnant! Random awful patches of eczema popping up, disappearing and returning in a new place the next day! Not sure what you can use for hives but I have spend so much money on finding stuff that suits my sensitive skin and Eucerin products are absolutely brilliant at settling my skin! Hope it clears up for you soon!!

ChubbyMumFromSkye · 28/08/2020 12:08

@Oldermum80 congrats, thats a lovely scan pic! So glad all is going well for you this time 💞

DSP21 · 28/08/2020 12:09

@Oldermum80 ahhh i'm so pleased for you! The scan looks perfect.

Charlotte2020 · 28/08/2020 12:23

@Oldermum80 gorgeous scan! Congrats! 🥰

holb54 · 28/08/2020 12:25

@DSP21 I haven't but I think I'm going to look into it, it's so irritating! Such a minefield of what you can and can't use or take when you're pregnant 😂

@Oldermum80 aww congratulations, there's nothing like hearing the heartbeat! That's a lovely scan picture! 💜💜

Charlotte2020 · 28/08/2020 12:25

@Sam202020 I've used boots or E45 itch relief cream. It works wonders for my itchy legs which I've suddenly developed! Stops me scratching my legs in my sleep

Calgoose · 28/08/2020 12:32

Haha well that’s good to know - every website I seem to look at refers to anyone over the age of 35 being geriatric. I don’t feel that bad but I’m definitely feeling the aches and pains more than when I was a sprightly 21 year old!

Re. Homebirths. I had a complicated first delivery which ended up in forceps. Despite that, I knew I wanted to go for a home water birth second time around. I knew the risks, but my midwife was reassuring that care would be with me very quickly if anything looked even slightly dodgy. I found the whole experience very positive. You get the undivided attention of two midwives all the way through. As it turns it out I did need to go to hospital with PPH but it was all handled brilliantly and I was back home the same night. DS was also a HUGE baby (very nearly 11 pounds) which hadn’t been picked up beforehand - but he still arrived perfectly safely in the pool.

I won’t have one this time around a) because of the risk of a big baby and b) the risk of PPH which I’ve since suffered in miscarriage too. But I would certainly say to anyone considering it that in my experience it was entirely positive, calm and relaxing. The midwives even cleaned out the pool!

Babafarmer · 28/08/2020 12:35

Fab scan @Oldermum80
@chloxhunt I'm working from home due to Covid risk assessment and I'm finding it awful and lonely. I'm going away for a couple of nights at the end of September to a friends holiday cottage and can't wait.
@DSP21 I haven't had hives but I've had awful itchy skin especially on my belly and boobs. I read it can be today with the skin stretching xx

krj2608 · 28/08/2020 12:46

ChubbyMumFromSkye · 28/08/2020 13:08

@krj2608 so sorry for your loss 😓 take good care of yourself 💞

Anonymom31 · 28/08/2020 13:13

I found the group!

I'm so happy I've been looking around for days!

Had my first bout of morning sickness without the sickness yesterday. Just sever nausea for 12 hours. Seems to have eased now.

Nothing else much to say except congrats to everyone who has had scans and sorry if I've missed anything!

LuHen · 28/08/2020 13:17

@Charlotte2020 I have been researching all morning and oh my gosh is overwhelming. I am super keen to give it go so might do a hire kit or something similar - I can totally see why it could be a faff to get going with though. I'm thinking if I have more kids it should be more cost effective.

Thanks @Sussexbysea and @aureliacecilia I will look into reusable wipes now. I have actually just had a joining frenzy for all the nappy lady groups but laying low a little as not sure if any of my pals are on there haha!

@Csj123 oh fab its great to hear from someone who has used them first hand - thanks. I also like the thought of baby having less chemicals and more natural materials next to their skin - I am quite sensitive so maybe baby will be too.

@Calgoose welcome! I'm due just the week before you and hoping for home/water birth :)

@NoGinNotComingIn a lot of the older research advises that a first birth is more risky at home. Luckily some recent data (over 500,000 births!) has literally just come out showing low risk pregnant women (me - luckily!) who birth at home have no increased change of perinatal or neonatal death vs hospital. This is what started off my research into it - I think it massively depends on intervention, pain relief you would like available etc. and all those other factors which are obviously very personal and some of which are only available in hospital. Im planning for a very hands off approach and am into meditation / relaxation so the home environment fits really well with this approach.

aureliacecilia · 28/08/2020 13:40

It sounds like you've really thought this through @LuHen. I'm thankfully also low risk by my medical history but my birth history means I'm now consultant-led. I hope it is going to provide me with some reassurance over this pregnancy and birth. Once I know all is well at my scan I'll turn my mind towards writing out some questions and issues I want to discuss about my care this pregnancy.

I thought I'd go for a VBAC originally but lots of people have said to me why would you wreck your pelvic floor as well as your abdomen and now I'm less sure!

LuHen · 28/08/2020 14:12

@aureliacecilia I mean its a fair point about wrecking both... haha! Trying not to think about it Confused

For me the importance of baby going through vaginal birth is all about bacteria/ microbiome, breastfeeding and all that boring stuff - I'm a bit of a 'natural' lover and the hypnobirthing course has really opened my eyes to how willing and able our bodies are to birth naturally. There is so much fear because of the way birth is portrayed in all the films and TV shows - its all screaming and pushing really hard. Don't get me wrong I'm sure it will still be so painful at times and there will be some shouting haha!

Ah yes there are lots of reasons you end up being in hospital care I guess, and it will absolutely be the safest place for you if that's what's chosen - plus you've got the expert looking after you, thats great!!! Smile.

The most important thing is probably being relaxed and trusting your care provider whoever and wherever you are Smile xxx
