@quiffy I'm so sorry you lost your cat ♥️♥️ they really do become part of the family. Give yourself as much time as you need and look after yourself.

@BettyBotter1 @BntTowers I agree it's quite clear her view on inductions. I still found it helpful to watch though and I was surprised that a lot of what she said was aligned with what they told us on NCT. I'm definitely not opposed to being induced - if it's suggested I'll ask the benefits, risks, alternatives etc and I don't plan on leaving the room unless it's explained properly!! Then I'll make my mind up.

@Spark27 hope you're ok and can use some of this time now to look after yourself. Agree about the anticlimax - I finish on Friday too and feel like I'm just disappearing from work and loads of people don't know I'm pregnant.

Just had my 36 week appointment. Midwife confirmed baby is head down ♥️♥️ hope he stays this way. Measuring fine etc, my only worry is my feet and hands are still itchy despite blood tests coming back ok the other week so they did another blood test. Hopefully everything is still ok. Can't wait to be 37 weeks this Saturday!!!

@Quiffy I’m so sorry to hear about your kitty. Made me want to cry I know how it feels. like a losing a family .I hope you are alright and sending you lots of love . Please look after yourself .

LostinAusten2 · 09/09/2020 11:37

@Quiffy - sending you a hug, so sorry about your cat. You’re a hero for managing all of this whilst pregnant ❤️

SkyBlue20 · 09/09/2020 11:51

Hi all!

@Quiffy I’m so sorry about your cat - it’s awful when they pass, they’re like one of the family! Sending love.

As promised, just wanted to update - just had my dating scan and all is perfect! Measuring 13+4 and have a due date of 13.03.21 🥰 So thrilled, it’s the first time I’ve allowed myself to get excited about this pregnancy after last time. Still a long way to go but so far, so good!

Hope you’re all doing ok, exciting to start seeing some dates come through - not long to go now! Xxx

@Quiffy So sorry to hear about your cat lovely, I can't imagine how you must be feeling at the moment, they really are part of the family. Maybe take it as a sign that baby is nearly ready, you often hear of a loss before a new arrival, it's almost as if he's waited for the timing of it all. Just take comfort in knowing how loved he was and what a fab life he will have had with you both. Interesting about your scan, sounds like baby is very happy in there, you must be exhausted! I need to finish my hospital bag too, I just can't quite muster the effort to put the last few things in.

@Treacle81 My feet don't look swollen but all my shoes are TIGHT. As soon as I was close to due date last time I went mad trying everything to get baby out, clary sage baths, raspberry leaf capsules, spice, sex, stupidly long walks. My DH was exhausted with me ahahah.

@Spark27 I still haven't decided when to take my mat leave with WFH anyway. I was half tempted to wait until baby arrives to start it (I don't get a maternity package, just statutory from day dot so I don't want to be short too early!).

@SkyBlue20 Congrats lovely! So pleased for you!

MrsD1990 · 09/09/2020 12:43

@SkyBlue20 yay congratulations!! Baby looks perfect ♥️♥️ so exciting - you'll have a spring baby!! Xxx

Treacle81 · 09/09/2020 13:08

Thanks girls I called the midwife and just as I thought OK unless get blurry vision, headache, sore upper tummy. So just taking it easy and hopefully swelling will decrease. Omg @SkyBlue20 what a cute little scan pic, delighted for you and your March baby ❤️xx @MrsD1990 great news, really hope I get told head down on Fri! @Spark27 that's rubbish about your work I'm thinking it'll be the same tbh, count down is on till I finish up on 18th though! @justanothermamma I'll prob end up the same lol. Thinking now that my feet might have grown which I know can happen. Funnily enough I actually went down a show size after my first pregnancy lol. They say try not to be bare footed which let's be honest I have spent around 98%of my time at home since March!! @BntTowersoh not much longer for you, I'd be doing the same, sneaking in lol. Thinking might have touch of CT as quite numb and stiff also, just see how it goes xx

MsSian93 · 09/09/2020 14:24

Hi ladies,

Hope everyone is doing well so close to the end! I'm 37 and 4 today and had my first sweep. Was uncomfortable but no worse than a smear. I feel crampy after having it, went on a long walk and about to get out my clary sage oil and bounce on the ball. Had a day of braxton hicks and cramps yesterday so really hoping this might kick start something today!

CharlieBalf · 09/09/2020 14:43

@Quiffy so so sorry about your cat. It can be so incredibly sad.

@SkyBlue20 lovely picture!

Someone mentioned swollen hands? I had to take my rings off two months back because of swelling but they don't seem to have got worse than the initial explosion 😂

36 week consultant app and scan earlier. ... Baby is 6.11lbs around 65th percentile and is bang on where they'd expect little one to be.
Consultant wants me to go in at 39nweeks for another scan and a sweep... Has anyone had any luck with membrane sweeps?

NWnature · 09/09/2020 15:51

@Quiffy I am so sorry about your cat. Its so awful losing a pet. I bet he had a cracking life with you. Sending you and you DH lots of love. Look after yourself

LexiM · 09/09/2020 15:54

@Quiffy so sorry to hear about your cat, that is so sad. It sounds like you gave them the best life possible. I hope you are relaxing as best you can. I know its hard but try not to worry about baby as they can cope better than we think. I have cried a lot with Dad being unwell and I know it's hard not to worry.

@SkyBlue20 I am so thrilled everything is going well for you. You will be amazed how quickly the months go by. How are you feeling?

@MrsD1990 glad baby is in the right position and hope your blood tests come back ok for you.

@MsSian93 hope things get moving for you. Is there a reason they did it at 37 weeks or is that routine when you are?

@CharlieBalf glad baby is where they should be and that they are checking you. My understanding of sweeps is they only work if baby is ready to come anyway. I guess we never know what works or if baby was coming anyway, I think I would be tempted to try!

I took my rings off a couple of weeks ago because although they still fit I've seen so many women suddenly overnight not be able to get them off and it scared me!

I've had my midwife appointment today. The midwife couldn't fully confirm baby's presentation and I am measuring smaller this week so I need to have a presentation and growth scan this Friday. She expects it's just because he has moved but I've gone from just under 90th to just under 50th centile in the last few weeks. I am not too worried because I know the measuring isn't too accurate. He was breech both appointments before so my gut is that he may have moved but I also couldn't really tell his position anymore so agree it's better to scan than guess. Also nice to check on baby!

She has said when I go into labour after an initial check if i am admitted and not sent home then my husband can come in, so that's good to know he wont be waiting for hours. She said they just want to avoid partners being in if the mother is in for say only 30 mins, home then back in but once in for good he can come in without me needing to be a set cm dilated etc. I think that's fair and just hope it doesnt change since the government are making changes at the moment.

BntTowers · 09/09/2020 16:06

@SkyBlue20 such a good scan photo, congratulations.

My Metformin dosage has just increased as my fasting readings are still a bit high, I'm hoping I won't feel rubbish again for the next few days. I knew it would be coming and I even said to DH a few days ago that I'm sure it will be increased, but still a bit down about it, there's nothing else I can do to bring the readings down and I'm just waiting for my appointment next week to get a induction date now as it's getting more and more likely.

There's been a Which articles out about baby sleeping bags and how 12/15 didn't pass certain safety checks if anyone is interested in reading it.

otterbaby · 09/09/2020 16:15

@Quiffy so sorry about your cat. Those tiny little dictators sure leave a big space when they leave us 😔 I hope you're getting plenty of cuddles from your other cat to comfort you x

@SkyBlue20 what a lovely photo, so happy that everything is looking well! Hopefully your trust is allowing partners at the scans now!

@LexiM I've done the same with my rings - don't want to risk going in for an EMCS and they have to cut them off! That's good to hear about your husband being able to stay. It sounds like most trusts are starting to calm down a bit (except mine!).

Sounds like a lot of people are expecting big babies! I'm not sure if I need to pick up some tiny baby clothes...I'll have another scan at 38 weeks so suppose I'll get an update then.

BntTowers · 09/09/2020 16:39

Oh on rings getting stuck on fingers, please do not try the "string technique" it will.only make your finger more swollen. Run some cold water and stick your hands in there for a few minutes, lather up with loads of soap then try to slip the ring off (make sure that if there water is running that the plug is in so it doesn't go down the drain). I used to work in a jewelry shop and this is the best way for both you and the rings!

justanothermamma · 09/09/2020 16:53

House viewing didn't go as hoped, so we're back to the drawing board!

My trust is so strict on partners. You have to be 4cm dilated for partner to be allowed in (even for induction). Planned c sections you can have a partner if you have a private room beforehand, no guarantee for EMCS - I know two people in the last three weeks who have had EMCS without their partners being allowed in. All partners have to leave hosp an hour after baby is born and strictly no visits after that and they have to pick you up at the hospital front door once discharged - it's horrendous.

I'm feeling so drained today. Nervous about the consultant tomorrow to find out the plan for induction.

Quiffy · 09/09/2020 16:55

@StrawberrySprinkles how did you get on at the vet? Hopefully just a sprain but they're such a worry. If only they could tell you what's wrong. Fir growth scans I was booked in from start for other health reasons, I think theyre trying to keep scans down atm with covid so if within the graph leaving. Least they're pretty inaccurate so should be fine!

@Spark27 are you feeling any better? Ending work does feel like an anti climax in the end.

@skyblue20 gorgeous scan photo and so happy for you, esp as you can start to get excited ❤️❤️

@BntTowers you're doing your best, just seems like one of those uncontrollable things :(

Thanks everyone for kitty love. We've just moped around all day and not done anything. Just had my consultant appointment cancelled too because of covid. Someone will call me instead. Very annoying when scan yesterday only didn't have me talk to a consultant that day because I had another scan and appointment next Tuesday. Not sure what will happen now. Just something to worry about 😅

bluemoon2468 · 09/09/2020 17:34

For those of you thinking weighing up the pros and cons of induction for various scenarios, the website evidencebasedbirth.com is amazing! It's completely unbiased and doesn't seem to have an agenda at all, just lays out the evidence and facts. You can look at the evidence around induction for different scenarios e.g.:

Inducing because you've gone overdue:
evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-on-inducing-labor-for-going-past-your-due-date/

Inducing for gestational diabetes:
evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-on-induction-for-gestational-diabetes/

Inducing for a big baby:
evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-for-induction-or-c-section-for-big-baby/

Etc.

MrsD1990 · 09/09/2020 17:57

My blood tess results have come back in record breaking time (took 2 days last time but it was a Friday) and apparently everything's fine! I asked if this means I can stop worrying about my itchy hands and feet now but the midwife was reluctant to say that - I guess it would make her liable if a problem does occur later. So I'll just try not to worry too much but keep raising it at my fortnightly appointments if it doesn't go away.

On rings - I checked mine a couple weeks ago and sadly mine are already stuck!! I have big knuckles so even before pregnancy swelling they're usually loose on my fingers but really hard to get on and off. They're now impossible to get off! I have been reassured that if I need to go into the operating theatre they will put tape over my rings and not cut them off!!

Two more work days until I start maternity leave!! This week is dragging just as much as I thought it would!

LostinAusten2 · 09/09/2020 19:01

Massive congrats @SkyBlue20 🥳❤️❤️ so exciting you’re having a Spring baby, lovely news xx

SkyBlue20 · 09/09/2020 19:53

Thank you everybody. It’s nice to be able to relax a little bit now and feel excited about it. Thinking that I would have been due in a month (to the day) makes me realise how fast the whole thing can go, so anticipating that March will roll around very quickly!

@LexiM I hope all is ok as it can be with your dad. I’ve been thinking of you, must be so tough, especially alongside the pregnancy.
I’m not feeling too bad now, thank you - the symptoms are definitely slowly reducing, which is nice. Still quite tired and a bit sickly at times, plus headaches have started recently but much better than I was. I need to start exercising again at some point, I’ve done nothing but eat and sleep for the last few months 🙈

@otterbaby My trust has allowed partners at scans for the last couple of weeks but late yesterday afternoon I got a call saying he could no longer attend - my hospital is in Bolton and they went in to more severe lockdown measures so they had to stop it. Gutted that we missed out by a few hours (especially as my scan was at 13+3 - if only it had been a bit earlier!) It’s ok though, we’ll go for another private scan soon (we had one at 10 weeks) so DH can see the little one ☺️

Sorry to hear so many places are still being so strict on birthing partners. There’s a campaign going around, #Butnotmaternity, with a petition, too, that’s really gaining some traction in press and on social media so hopefully it’ll get in front of the decision makers and something will change soon for you all 🤞🏼 Xx

HerondaleDucks · 09/09/2020 20:48

So 36 week midwife appointment today. She seemed happy. I've lost a kilo.
I don't have any more appointments until 38 weeks now. Scary stuff.

Also perineum massage is the most awkward and weird thing I have ever done to my vagina. How do you even know if you're doing it right?! So baffled...

BntTowers · 09/09/2020 20:49

@Quiffy there's nothing else I can do it's hormones rather than things I eat/ the amount of exercise I'm doing. I can't wait to not go on walks after every single meal.

@bluemoon2468 thanks I'll take a look at the links.

@SkyBlue20 shame you missed out by just a few hours!

This is going round on the Facebook groups that Leicester is letting you have a birth partner from the start of labour and a second when in established. I hope they start rolling this out throughout the rest of the UK.

HerondaleDucks · 09/09/2020 20:55

@Quiffy also very sorry to hear about your cat. Hope you are ok. Sending hugs.

BettyBotter1 · 09/09/2020 20:57

@SkyBlue20 congratulations on your scan, that's lovely news.
@bluemoon2468 thank you for sharing that website, I had a quick look at it seems exactly the sort of information source I've been after but hadn't come across. I will be having a good read on several topics.

I had an eventful day, after going for a longer walk than usual I lost a small amount of blood and babys movements were a bit reduced so they had me come to the hospital for a monitoring check. All well and no other symptoms so I think I just lost a bit of the plug. Glad they were so careful with me though.

MrsK89 · 09/09/2020 21:35

@BettyBotter1 glad all was well and they took your concerns seriously.
How's everyone feeling tonight? X
