Can I join? About 9 weeks pregnant now. Veering between feeling queasy, fat and tired to feeling nothing at all and wondering if I’m making it all up! How many people are going for a harmony/NIPT test? I’m really confused on how much more accurate this is compared to the combined screening the NHS does?

GreysLove · 13/08/2020 17:37

@taylortyler totally ignore me then! Lol I'm gonna blame baby brain! Ha

I'm really feeling the nausea this week, not been sick yet but the smell of anything cooking is setting me off. We're living with my boyfriend's mum between houses, and not told anyone yet but it's getting hard to hide my face turning green when the bin, fridge, oven, dishwasher is open!

I find that holding my wrists under cold water helps a little, also cools you down x

Charlotte2020 · 13/08/2020 17:39

@Joeyandpacey as the NIPT test is £400 where I live I think I'll only get it if the chances of downs are high from the nhs tests.

@Oldermum80

Hi everyone, I haven't been on as I’ve been a bit of a mess and letting my anxiety get the better of me. I am so worried that this is another MMC and my head is all over the place. Feel like I’m no longer disgusted by foods and not feeling the slight queasiness I was. Still tired and peeing a lot but then that’s the norm for me. Boobs haven’t changed anymore than they had in week 5. Know I shouldn’t symptom spot but I am positive this is happening again and I’m petrified of having a scan on Sunday.
@Oldermum80 you are not alone in your worries. These early weeks are so hard. I got myself into a right state yesterday but I have read lots of reassuring things here on mumsnet from ladies who didn’t have symptoms and everything was fine. I was quite surprised actually to read messages from so many ladies who just didn’t experience morning sickness at all. It’s just that thing that is drummed into us as being THE classic symptom. But from what I’ve read so far, absolutely everything in pregnancy is so flipping different from one person to the next! Not useful I know, when we just want some certainty xxx
Sussexbysea · 13/08/2020 17:45

@Taylortyler Taking a pregnancy vitamin and the extra folic acid is fine. You’ll drop the extra tablet when you’re 12 weeks usually. That’s what they’ve asked me to do. It’s very standard to do so.

Anonymom31 · 13/08/2020 18:09

Haha i take so many tablets a day im already rattling!

I take the 5mg folic acid, pregnancy vitamin and 3 metformin a day.

I'll move to 4 metformin eventually and at 13 weeks I'll move from 1 folic acid to 2 aspirin!

At some point ill be on a mix of metformin and insulin as well so needles as well!!

Plus! I have to test my blood sugars 4 times per day which can increase if they need it too. Mt poor fingers are so scabbed and bruised lol

All for a good reason of course.

Anxiety is high today. I have my 12 week scan next Thursday at 10am. Im so frightened to go that im not sleeping at night. I hope everything is okay in there :/

I know this is a tough question but is anyone else driving themselves mad rushing to the toilet to see if that feeling they just had was more then just the normal bodily changes lol

Taylortyler · 13/08/2020 18:30

@Anonymom31 I was on metformin for a bit was hideous as I found if I didn't eat a substantial enough with it I was super ill... and every time I go to the loo I expect to see my period, have done since I found out and I still carry sanitary pads everywhere just in case

Han127 · 13/08/2020 18:32

Hi all!

This is my first post, I have been watching the thread for a while but been cautious to post. I am around 9 weeks today and we have just got our scan date through.
Does anyone have any advice for bad nausea? I have it all day every day. Some days I’m sick others not, but the feeling is there constantly and I worry about going out anywhere incase I have to dash to the toilet. I have the wristbands and ginger biscuits which I try to eat when I wake up. Not sure if I should ask my doctor about prescribing something?

Thank you Smile

aureliacecilia · 13/08/2020 18:33

@Taylortyler www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/vitamins-minerals-supplements-pregnant/ There's a bit on higher dose folic acid.

EmzG20 · 13/08/2020 18:36

@Charlotte2020 thank you your comment made me remember to pick my prescription folic acid up from the chemist this evening. Baby brain already. I also take a higher does of folic acid because of epilepsy. X

KO2018 · 13/08/2020 18:39

Hi again guys - husband not allowed at my scan apparently:( anyone else had this?

aureliacecilia · 13/08/2020 19:02

I think it depends on where you are in the country. It's all a bit pot luck.

chloxhunt · 13/08/2020 19:36

@KO2018 yeah my friend just booked a private scan for him to be allowed in! I'm hoping by the time I get to 12 weeks my boyfriend will be allowed in

Thack · 13/08/2020 21:05

Hi @ANONYMOM31 how long are you testing for? You can buy these privately, they're not cheap but not bank breaking, but would save your fingers if you're going to be testing for a while:
www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/testing/flash-glucose-monitoring

Joeyandpacey · 13/08/2020 21:09

No partners allowed at scans here either. Tho tbh it’s probably for the best so he can stay with our older child just in case there’s bad news. But still such a shame to miss it.

Anonymom31 · 13/08/2020 21:11

Hi @Thack I have to test throughout the pregnancy im currently 11 weeks. And potentially for up to 2 months after baby is born too. So my fingers get pretty sore but they do heal quickly.

I had heard about those and had a look into them a few times but freaked out over the sensor being under the skin haha.

A bit like the contraceptive implant proper weird me out haha

Thack · 13/08/2020 21:24

I get that. I'm not a user but I did see one when I was a voluntary first aider. 9yo I treated had one- it looked so simple and quick. It's a little different from implants in that you've got the plastic dish outside the skin (I don't know how washing works with that). For that much testing I'd imagine it'd be a game changer

Sussexbysea · 13/08/2020 21:46

@Anonymom31 always. It’s a horrible feeling isn’t it.

Babafarmer · 13/08/2020 22:08
@GreysLove the pharmacist said and google also says that 400 micrograms is 0.4 milligrams? So 500 micrograms is 0.5 milligrams.. and this is why I hate maths!
Your pharmacist is correct 500 micrograms is 0.5 milligrams.. I'm a nurse so drug calculations is part of the job x

Taylortyler · 14/08/2020 06:41

@Anonymom31 I know someone with one and he has an app that links to his phone so it sends an alert when his sugar goes low. Very clever really

Oldermum80 · 14/08/2020 09:16

Thank you for those who replied to me. I really appreciate it.
I have woken this morning and there is colour when I wipe. I know this can be normal for lots of people but after two pregnancies that were fine and two miscarriages with my new partner, I think I know what is happening.
I just came on to want to wish you all well in your pregnancies as I doubt I will be back on.
Thank you for the support, take care.

chloxhunt · 14/08/2020 09:24

@Oldermum80 I'm sure everything's okay! You only need to worry if it's red and heavy

Oldermum80 · 14/08/2020 09:54

@chloxhunt I have pain too. I knew all along this wouldn’t work out but I’ll be ok. Have been through it before just hurts more because this was our last chance. Thank you though.

chloxhunt · 14/08/2020 09:57

@Oldermum80 yeah I have cramps too! I went for an early scan due to having cramps and everything was fine! Don't worry about it too much until you actually have too!

KO2018 · 14/08/2020 10:45

We are booked in for a private scan now - I will be 10 weeks - so he will be allowed at that one, and at least we can get to know what’s going on a little bit earlier. They may even change the rules by the time I get to the NHS one (which I still have to attend)

@Han127 If you’re suffering give your GP a ring they gave me meds with no trouble
