Waters breaking but midwives say it hasn’t...?

I felt my waters breaking this morning (or what I thought was) three gushes of clear liquid in short succession on the bathroom floor. Pretty sure it wasn’t urine as I couldn’t see where it went at first to clear it up. Phone the triage unit and they had me up there to check, as I had no contractions. After a speculum examination they think it was just discharge. But discharge has never come out like that or ran down my leg as such (sorry tmi).

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any chance they are wrong? I felt so convinced and I feel like I know my own body but they are the professionals of course. I was so excited at the thought that contractions and then labour might be close but now I feel back to square one.

@Chocolate4me thank you, on the way now, feeling very awkward in a taxi with the contractions which seem to have slowed down slightly but got more painful!

Mine slowed on the way in, when you get settled in they will ramp up again. Good luck!

Chocolate4me · 04/08/2020 19:07

Hopefully it will be a smooth journey. My contractions always seemed to be a bit unpredictable, and I always feel the urge to deliver, but have been told I was only 6cm and within minutes I went to 10cm and delivered so don't get too concerned about if the contractions don't speed up etc.

I had this argument with the midwives and it put he in a bad state of mind for the whole labour. I heard the waters go pop. Then baby wasback to back. Excruciating. Pethidine, epidural, forceps, episiotomy, sleepy baby wouldn't breastfeed, admitted to hospital again on day 4. We were both fine in the end!

@Bluewavescrashing

Umm just what someone in labour wants to read!!

Good luck OP, soon you’ll be holding you beautiful baby ☺️

elf81 · 04/08/2020 19:54

Good luck at the hospital. Hope you have your baby in your arms soon.

1cm dilated! Can’t believe it as contractions are now 3 minutes apart. They said I could stay but partner wouldn’t be allowed to so going to look at booking a hotel nearby 🙁 worst thing is they suggested I come back to my hometown Brighton as there might be a room there tomorrow but not here! Honestly give me a break 😂

Oh what a nightmare, I don't know what I'd have done in that situation.... Its a long journey back home, and then if you do need to go back to that hospital again, it will be another 40 mins. Did they check your waters?
Can you call your local hospital and see if they think they will have space by tomorrow? You might be more comfortable at home though than a hotel and it might be hot in a hotel

Staplemaple · 04/08/2020 20:35

Obviously up to you OP, personally as long as you're happy to I would be tempted to stay in and for your OH to stay in a hotel nearby. I wouldn't want to be doing anymore travelling, or you could go to the hotel with him, but to be honest it sounds like your contractions are pretty close, I went from 1 to 4 cm pretty quickly after a slow start; everyone's different but you need rest rather than trapsing around. But have a think of what you want to do.

Birdy1991 · 04/08/2020 20:51

The hotel is right next door and honestly I think I’ll cry if I’m not with him tonight. They’ve given me some painkillers and I’m so close that I could come back to the hospital at any point. Wish me luck 🤞

Oh sorry, just seen it said you can stay.. I'd stay and book your oh a hotel, atleast your guaranteed a bed then. I felt more relaxed being at the hospital, I expect they will allow your husband back once you are in established labour, he might be able to get a couple of hours rest in a hotel atleast before having to come back maybe

HerNameWasEliza · 04/08/2020 20:59

Good luck Birdy!

Chocolate4me · 04/08/2020 21:03

Good luck, that's great the hotel is so close!

Startofsomethingnew20 · 04/08/2020 22:08

Good luck OP Smile

Good luck Birdy

Just read the whole
Thread and so excited for you op! All the best.

thewisp · 04/08/2020 22:34

Happened to me, ended up with a uterine infection as baby didn't come for a further 24 hours. They conceded my waters had actually broken 12 hours after.

thewisp · 04/08/2020 22:36

Ooh how exciting. Good luck!

anonanonandanon · 04/08/2020 22:42

Ohhhh no you had the same as me, every 5 minutes and absolutely killing, pressure and I thought baby was gonna come out there and then, turns out was 4cm dilated 😂 fucking cervix!

Good luck hun!

Birdy1991 · 04/08/2020 22:55

Thanks guys 🥰
Turns out staying in a hotel room is quite nice, change of scenery I guess, cuddles help too!
Hopefully will be more dilated tomorrow otherwise I’m gonna have to beg the midwives for help 😂

anonanonandanon · 04/08/2020 23:01

@Birdy1991 I was begging for a caesarean at 5cm dilated so it’s safe to say I have only had the one child 😂

Thankfully I got one in the end, just think OP that end of labour toast is near in sight xxxx

Violetroselily · 04/08/2020 23:23

Good look OP - assume you're at the Princess Royal in HH? Lots of friends have given birth there and speak very highly of it

Birdy1991 · 04/08/2020 23:26

@Violetroselily yeah I am! Hoping it turns out better than my experience so far which is just based on the fact that it’s twinned with Brighton and they both might completely run out of beds by the morning! Midwives did seem nice though 🙂

Mucus plug gone this morning (wow that thing is quite grim) and now 2cm dilated with a ‘favourable cervix’ whatever that means! They think I’ll be in established labour later on. I had a horrendous night with no sleep at all so at least it meant something happened. Thanks everyone for your help with the thread!
