Waters breaking but midwives say it hasn’t...?

I felt my waters breaking this morning (or what I thought was) three gushes of clear liquid in short succession on the bathroom floor. Pretty sure it wasn’t urine as I couldn’t see where it went at first to clear it up. Phone the triage unit and they had me up there to check, as I had no contractions. After a speculum examination they think it was just discharge. But discharge has never come out like that or ran down my leg as such (sorry tmi).

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any chance they are wrong? I felt so convinced and I feel like I know my own body but they are the professionals of course. I was so excited at the thought that contractions and then labour might be close but now I feel back to square one.

She was fine after 5 days of antibiotics but it was very scary for us all. Very annoying when I told them over and over again her movements had reduced and I was ignored! I only had 2 small gushes and then nothing else. They didn't even swab mine just ignored me pretty much. Please push for swabbing and keep nagging them even if its just for reassurance x

@Needingsupportplease how awful for you. I’ll decide what to do this evening as I’ve got 24 hours from this morning to decide x

You need to ring them back and ask if they swabbed for amniotic fluid.

Birdy1991 · 03/08/2020 16:10

@SteelyPanther ok, I will do that tomorrow first thing I’ve already rang them today and feel pissed off at them fobbing me off, I feel like all these midwives want to do is get you off the phone when you ring!

Yes me. I was also swobbed and apparently nothing there. Even though I was having contractions.

So I was sat at home all day timing the contractions and when it got to a few minutes apart they said that if I was in real labour I’d be breathless but if I must come in - come in.

When I got there they still didn’t think I was telling the truth as I wasn’t panting or breathless or showing severe pain. Told me to get on the bed and they’d check. I was 8cm dilated and a surprised midwife told me get a hospital gown on Hmm

Birdy1991 · 03/08/2020 16:18

@Ohfredcomeon ffs... that’s awful. I don’t have much faith right now Sad

Have you lost any more fluid? Are you wearing a pad? The head can stop more fluid but if you’re still losing fluid I would use that as a reason to go back.

I felt unwell and thought I was leaking fluid - they said it wasn’t (pretty sure it was) but one of my boys had stopped moving so I had an emcs right away. I so nearly didn’t go in. Don’t be scared of being annoying.

Birdy1991 · 03/08/2020 16:36

@SinkGirl no more fluid lost since this morning. I might ring tomorrow morning. Have been quite tearful this afternoon, I just don’t feel listened to.
Also worried now they’ve put ‘thrush?’ On my notes that I won’t get my sweep on Wednesday ☹️

You really need to phone them and find out if they did a swab for amniotic fluid and also if they took a high vaginal swab for thrush or other infection.
The assessment unit is open 24 hrs so I would just call and be pushy until you get an answer.

Birdy1991 · 03/08/2020 16:47

@MoreCookiesPlease will do, I am gearing up to it, have just been feeling hysterical for some reason!

I had a couple of fishes near the end, went in and it was discharge (never had it before, was a bit gross). However, I did go into labour the following day. Never bad to go again if you're worried about anything at this stage.

sunrainwind · 03/08/2020 16:50

Gushes, not fishes!!

Notredamn · 03/08/2020 16:50

Some of your waters have gone. You know yourself whether it was 'discharge' or not. Your baby needs to be born quite soon. Not looking to alarm you. It's no surprise there has been no forthcoming sense of urgency from the midwives- you really do have to shout the loudest and be your own advocate in maternity care. Best of luck Thanks

SinkGirl · 03/08/2020 16:50

I’m not surprised. It’s scary. First off, can you check your temp at home? Are you still feeling regular movements? If you have any concerns from that point of view then go now and tough crap if they dislike it.

If your midwife is good, call them and tell them you’re scared. They should support you.

I wish I had trusted my instincts more - I felt so unwell and just had the feeling something wasn’t right but couldn’t rationalise it. I am so glad my midwife was so on the ball.

Mammaaof · 03/08/2020 16:53

I woke up on my second convinced my waters went but just wet myself as my actual waters had to be popped Blush

Staplemaple · 03/08/2020 16:53

Unfortunately for some reason maternity services don't listen to women, so you have to push for the swab. But please do.

PregnantAndTiredMum · 03/08/2020 16:58

I absolutely knew my waters had gone and my midwife thought they hadn't either.
I was right.

Birdy1991 · 03/08/2020 16:59

I can’t actually believe this has happened to so many people. I will ring this evening and voice my concerns.

strawbmilk · 03/08/2020 17:01

I knew my waters had gone, the midwives said no but did the swab test. She said she had only been wrong once before but the test came back that my waters had gone.

MichelleOR84 · 03/08/2020 20:54

Have you leaked any water since ??? After my waters broke I was leaking water for two days before baby was born . I’m not sure if that’s normal though .

OverTheRainbow88 · 03/08/2020 20:56

I was certain my waters had gone, went in they did an internal and said they hadn’t. They also put a pad in my pants for 2 hours then tested the liquid which was on it...

Birdy1991 · 04/08/2020 07:11

Well I didn’t call because I thought I’d see if I got contractions. Got woken up by one at 2am, they are around 20-25 minutes apart and lasting for one minute, does this sound like the real thing?

OP posts:
zippityzip · 04/08/2020 07:13

Definitely starting but they sound really far apart. Get up and get moving, walk around, bounce on the ball. Make sure you eat and drink too. Good luck!!!

Solasum · 04/08/2020 07:15

Must be! Good luck OP

FourPlasticRings · 04/08/2020 07:26

Yep. Do you have a ball to sit on? I rotated my hips on mine through the contractions and it intensified them.
