Good morning, @kwastell @lastditchattempt20 glad you are both doing ok and things are more settled for you both. Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I’m looking forward to my midwife appointment on Thursday and hoping that my first scan is then booked for quite soon. Im still feeling absolutely shattered most days and struggling to eat really - I seem to have gone off everything I would normally enjoy. I feel sick when I don’t eat and then when I do eat I feel sick again. My boobs are agony too - especially in the morning, so I think I’m going to try and find a sports/support bra that I can wear at night.

I’m not someone who ever feels ill or sleeps through the day so I’m missing my normal energy levels and feel like I am not achieving very much just now 😏

Homassy · 09/08/2020 06:58

Really pleased to hear bleeding has stopped. Anyone else got dodgy bowels Blush? Not enjoying the heat at all and so hard to sleep.

kwastell · 09/08/2020 09:10

That's not nice of your MiL @lastditchattempt20

Not had any of the usual signs of a water infection. So am just taking the tablets and assuming it will go.

kwastell · 09/08/2020 09:12

@KJB2020 I think you've got a very good excuse for not achieving much right now.

OP posts:
kwastell · 09/08/2020 09:13

@Homassy I seem to have the opposite - got constipation at the moment. Which is really lovely.

lastditchattempt20 · 09/08/2020 09:22

@kwastell I was a bit 😕 but then I think maybe the older generation just don't understand the first trimester these days. They didn't have such sensitive tests and regular scans and google! Anyway, I'm going to scan go by myself so we don't need her for childcare early in morning at least.
I am so constipated! It's awful and causes lots of worrying pains. And sleepy every afternoon.

EmeraldLily18 · 09/08/2020 09:30

Morning all!

Just having a quick catch up here and can totally relate to the symptoms! Well, except the tiredness but I’m a teacher so I’m on holiday at the moment and my days are less structured. I’m sure it’ll hit me soon!

I’ve also been having a lot of cramping very low down (bowels are out of rhythm so it could surely be something to do with that too). No bleeding though so I have to just assume things are ok?
I already have very vivid dreams but the past few nights all I’ve been dreaming about is losing the pregnancy. I’ve never been pregnant before and one of my best friends just had two consecutive miscarriages at 6 weeks (she is now 10 weeks pregnant, fingers crossed for us both to be bump buddies!). So the anxiety levels are pretty high!

I’m also massively bloated. I haven’t really felt sick and I’m eating normally but my belly is massive! I’m not sure how I can hid it for another 7 weeks (I’m only 5 weeks + 1!!).

Any tips for the bloating? Or do I just accept that I’m going to be chunky for a long time?! 😂

lastditchattempt20 · 09/08/2020 10:21

@EmeraldLily18 me too! 🤰🏼 Going to try and research what the causes might be (likely to be hormones!) but I am drinking loads of water and maybe will try and reduce salt to start with. Going to cut out bread also.

kwastell · 10/08/2020 11:44

Morning. How's everyone today?

After going round the houses with the NHS trying to get help to maintain this pregnancy after 3 previous losses, I had a private consultation on Friday evening with the doctor who's the lead for recurrent miscarriage at St Mary's hospital in Manchester.

Based on my previous miscarriages the doctor prescribed:
Cyclogest pessaries (progesterone)
Clexane injections (stops blood clots)
Prednisolone tablets (steroids)
Baby aspirin
High dose folic acid
Pregnacare

She said there might just be enough time to help this pregnancy. So happy to finally have a prescription - it's arriving on Wednesday.

Absolutely terrified of doing the injections. Does anyone have any experience?

OP posts:
kwastell · 10/08/2020 11:46

Btw I love the NHS - only went private as a last resort - not meant as a slur against the NHS who are doing their best in difficult circumstances. And I'm very very lucky to be able to go private.

OP posts:
Homassy · 10/08/2020 12:23

@kwastell I’m glad you’ve been seen. I had ten days of clexane injections following a c section. I can’t lie they do sting a bit but it’s very manageable and doesn’t last. How good to have a plan and support. X

kwastell · 10/08/2020 12:28

I'm such a wimp. Palms are already sweating thinking about it. Any tips for doing them @Homassy?

Homassy · 10/08/2020 13:04

I hope this isn't much info/gory detail but:

On the way in, the skin is the most sensitive bit with lots of nerve endings so pinch a good bit of flesh and go in decisively and quickly smoothly through the skin. If you go slowly and timidly it hurts more

It's a small and very thin needle so you're unlikely to go too deep but a couple of times I went in too shallow, just under the skin or even in the base layer. This hurts and causes a big bruise....

Once you're in push the plunger down firmly and smoothly- this bit stings as the clean creates a transient stretching

Once the plunger is fully in, pull out smoothly and quickly (same point about nerve endings in the skin).

It's honestly fine, promise xx My friend preferred her OH to do it, which could be another option

This is a good info sheet www.vtematters.co.nz/-/media/EMS/Conditions/Cardiology/Brands/vtematters-AU/Aus/Resources/CLEXANE%20with%20automatic%20safety%20lock%20patient%20information/6814_Sanofi_Clexane_A5_6-Step%20Guide_AW05.pdf?la=en-GB

kwastell · 10/08/2020 13:07

Thank you @Homassy really useful 🙌

OP posts:
Homassy · 10/08/2020 13:08

I should say ; when pressing the plunger in I said firmly and smoothly BUT don't go fast- the sudden volume expansion will sting more. You're looking for a decisive smooth action with the plunger but not a very rapid one. Also that sheet I linked says a 90 degree angle- check your instructions- I did more of a 70 degree type slope.

YOu've got this x

Homassy · 10/08/2020 13:11

I've been googling and found a good site for super gentle first trimester yoga and some meditations too. A woman called Bettina Rae. She has three little boys and seems to "get" pregnancy - she even says in one yoga video, if you're not feeling up to it you have my permission to just nap through this video! There is one for morning sickness, for anxiety, for stiffness etc

Not sure if anyone else will like them but I thought worth sharing. I felt better just for doing ten minutes of very gentle mobilisation

kwastell · 10/08/2020 13:37

Ooh nice. I will have a look tonight. Keep saying I want to do yoga regularly, so need to do it!

lastditchattempt20 · 10/08/2020 18:57

@kwastell glad you managed to see someone. I work in the NHS but totally understand and would do the same in your shoes. Hopefully all the meds will help 🤞🏻. I had to have Fragmin after DD birth. @Homassy is right- be decisive and quick when sticking needle in to reduce discomfort- like peeling off a plaster (but with more accuracy!). It should come with a helpful booklet or something.
Yoga/meditation sounds good, will check it out!

Homassy · 11/08/2020 07:12

How is everyone? I’ve got worsening insomnia coupled with exhaustion. I seem to remember this last time and it never really went away.

Scan on Sunday....

KJB2020 · 11/08/2020 08:53

@Homassy that’s exciting about your scan on Sunday! I’m the same with the lack of sleep. I feel exhausted but then can’t sleep and getting myself into a bad cycle with it!

Otherwise I feel great some days and the. Really sick the next. I have my midwife booking appointment on Thursday 😁

kwastell · 11/08/2020 10:08

Oh no insomnia is not what you need @KJB2020 and @Homassy. Can't imagine the heat is helping.

I've not got insomnia, but have got a 6 month old puppy who has taken to barking through the night. It's a good job she's cute.

Exciting for your scan on Sunday @Homassy and your midwife appointment on Thursday @KJB2020. I have mine on Friday, and a follow up scan from last week.

OP posts:
lastditchattempt20 · 11/08/2020 10:46

Another one with insomnia here- heat definitely doesn't help! I had private scan booked for Sunday but now due for NHS one Monday morning so think I'll just stick with that one as obv will then get any follow up needed. Wouldn't want to hear two different opinions!

kwastell · 11/08/2020 12:01

Just had to run to the toilet to be sick in the middle of a zoom meeting at work. Although wasn't actually sick.

Taking that as a (unpleasant) good sign!

OP posts:
Homassy · 11/08/2020 16:29

@kwastell good sign but not a nice one!

Oh dear, spotting here. Nothing I can do but wait and see. Rubbish rubbish rubbish
