@lucieloos thats amazing news. So happy for you.

So do they ask before the test if you want to know the sex? Xx

lucieloos · 07/12/2020 11:47

@Hayleywoody82 yes you have a choice of whether you want to find out or not. We had a surprise with our first 2 children which was lovely but we just thought it would be easier to find out with this one for practical reasons and also I didn't want my daughter getting too fixated on having a sister if it was another brother so we wanted to be able to tell them too and give them chance to get used to either a brother or sister. I had such a strong feeling it was a girl though.

Vie8126 · 07/12/2020 13:32

@lucieloos great news!! Did you pay for this private?

lucieloos · 07/12/2020 13:47

@Vie8126 yes it was a private test. It's quite pricey but because of my age I definitely wanted to do it and the fact it can be done so early on was a big reassurance to me. If you get a low risk result it's greater than 99.9% accurate so it's brought a lot of relief.

Hayleywoody82 · 07/12/2020 14:03

@lucieloos oh i thought the NHS did this test i didn't realise you paidxx

lucieloos · 07/12/2020 14:12

@Hayleywoody82 no this is a different test to the nhs. The nhs also do one but you don't get the results until later and you can't find out the gender. It also doesn't test for as many things and not as accurate so we felt it was worth it given age and our anxiety levels.

Hayleywoody82 · 07/12/2020 14:40

@lucieloos oh I see. Just googled it. The price 😬

Glad all came back good for you ❤

lucieloos · 07/12/2020 16:41

@Hayleywoody82 yes it depends how much you need that peace of mind. We have been through many rounds of ivf and many disappointments and this was our first ever natural bfp so for us it was worth the money to be able to relax and know so far so good.

CC81 · 07/12/2020 17:58

@lucieloos - SO PLEASED for you. Such wonderful news.

I totally understand the anxiety. I'd happily pay twice the price! We did NIPT three years ago for our first baby, who was born when I was 36.

I'm even more anxious this time, because I'm 39 and it's twins (and I have a low egg reserve - so this feels like a 'last chance').

Sunbird24 · 07/12/2020 18:11

@lucieloos what wonderful news, so pleased for you!

Vie8126 · 07/12/2020 19:18

@Hayleywoody82 I know I went through the NHS screening booklet I was emailed from maternity unit and it has NIPT in it but I haven't been able to confirm if its actually carried out!

I can imagine the relief of the results is amazing. I'm going to look around.

Sleeeeeepy · 07/12/2020 20:18

That's fantastic news @lucieloos You must be over the moon! I'm planning on having it this time around but waiting to see how the early scan goes before booking anything

lucieloos · 07/12/2020 20:35

@Vie8126 most nhs boards only carry out nipt if the standard nhs test comes back as high risk.

Thanks @Sleeeeeepy hope your early scan goes well. How much longer do you have to wait?

@CC81 I'm sure you will be fine too but I know what the anxiety and waiting is like too. We also had the test for our current two children as well.

@Sunbird24 thanks so much 😊

Sleeeeeepy · 07/12/2020 20:52

@lucieloos next Friday, feels like an eternity!

lucieloos · 07/12/2020 21:01

@Sleeeeeepy fingers crossed for a quick week for you. A lovely early Christmas present for you.!

Wavesandsmilesencore · 08/12/2020 05:38

@lucieloos I’m so happy to read this! You must be so relieved 😌. I also had the NIPT but it’s fairly standard (and covered) over here.

I’m not feeling the second trimester glow and energy at all. Probably the result of 70+ hour weeks for the past few months but only a little while until I can have a break over Christmas. Then the 6 week countdown to the compulsory leave starts... 22 weeks today for me!

Vie8126 · 08/12/2020 05:43

@sleeeeeepy I'm with you for the private scan wait mine is next Sunday!! Feels like a lifetime to wait!

lucieloos · 08/12/2020 16:41

Had our 12 week scan today and all looking good. They dated me 3 days ahead so I'm 12+1 today and a new due date of 21st June. Feel like I can relax for a little bit now. Consultant appt early Jan and then 20 week scan on 1st Feb.

Sleeeeeepy · 08/12/2020 16:51

Fantastic news @lucieloos !!! That must be a huge weight off your mind x

CC81 · 08/12/2020 17:05

Had our 9 week private scan today, with a consultant who specialises in twins.

All looking good so far, to our relief! They're a similar size - but they go off the larger twin, which is currently dated at 9w 4d.

He said that based on our history and current status, there's a good chance that it'll be a straightforward pregnancy. They appear to be fraternal twins and have separate placentas, which is lower-risk than if they were sharing a placenta (and identical).

Next up, NIPT screening at 10w, results hopefully at 11w. SO SCARED. Wish it wasn't so close to Christmas.

M4v3r1ck · 09/12/2020 10:12

@lucieloos amazing pic!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍

@CC81 fab news! 😃😃😃

Had my phone consultation yesterday with the midwife and she was great! 😃 Just fingers crossed all goes ok at 12-week scan in 3 weeks time! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

lucieloos · 09/12/2020 12:35

@CC81 great news and good luck with the nipt. I know it's nerve wracking but they told me before the test my chances of downs was 1/47 which sounds quite a lot but when you break it down it's still only just over 2% chance so the odds are massively in your favour.

@M4v3r1ck glad you phone consult went well and old luck for the scan hope it comes around quickly for you.

CC81 · 09/12/2020 21:17

Thanks @lucieloos - I'll try my best to think of it that way (it does sound better!).

I think it's because it all feels too good to be true, so I'm automatically expecting something to go wrong (even though I know that's irrational).

I really, really don't deal well with suspense, either!

Hayleywoody82 · 10/12/2020 07:57

Morning all.

Had my scan yesterday. It was amazing saw a lovely strong heartbeat.
I'm 8+5 now so a few days further than what I thought which is a bonus. Feel so much better afyerseeing that heartbeat xx

M4v3r1ck · 10/12/2020 09:43

Thank you @lucieloos I also like that you converted to %, I think that's much more reassuring! 😃

@Hayleywoody82 awesome and exciting! 😘

Hope you're all doing good, ladies! Can't believe we're getting so close to Christmas!!! 😍
