@GreysLove I'm 5+4 and still haven't received any information on my booking appointment or scan. I was told I would be seen before 10 weeks but have yet to hear anything after self referring over a week ago.

The gp's aren't doing face to face appointments like they usually would, and I was told that although it feels like a long time to see someone, the safest place to be right now is at home. I feel really anxious at how long I'd have to wait so I booked a private scan. I know what you mean about potentially receiving bad news from someone that isn't taking care of you, but if everything is ok it'll be a huge relief and stop me being so anxious so I think it'll help!

At the moment just taking each day 1 at a time, but omg the days drag on!

Oldermum80 · 29/07/2020 10:24

@Sh4mmy a bit of both really. My last miscarriage I had no idea things weren’t progressing although I had very few symptoms. I only found out at my early scan where they said my dates were wrong and offered a rescan two weeks later. I was in limbo hoping but knowing my dates couldn’t be wrong and it took the two weeks before I started to miscarry.
This time I don’t have many symptoms again and I’m worried it is happening again. Think I just need to go with the flow and wait it out.

Hope everything comes back ok for you today and @Boredinthehouse12 for you too.

Mrs1989 · 29/07/2020 10:41

@Boredinthehouse12

For those who have had an early scan was is it abdominal or internal? If abdominal how much water did you drink beforehand?

I have mine in a few hours and while I’m not expecting to receive the news we were hoping for (all symptoms have vanished for over a week and I caught some sort of infection) I’m still hoping to avoid an internal scan.

I had an early scan at 7 weeks with my last pregnancy after bleeding and cramps (sadly it did confirm a miscarriage) and it was an internal scan, I believe because it was deemed too early to pick anything up with an abdominal scan. I was very nervous about it being internal, as I can’t use tampons, really struggle with things like smears, and had had a bad smear test experience not long before my pregnancy. But the lady who did the internal scan was so reassuring and gentle, and it was nowhere near as bad as I expected. So if it is internal please try to relax (I know easier said than done!). Hope the scan goes well and gives you some reassurance xxx
aureliacecilia · 29/07/2020 10:50

In my area they don't make contact until you're six or seven weeks pregnant so I'm hoping to hear next week (six weeks tomorrow).

Mrs1989 · 29/07/2020 10:59

Just been catching up with messages and sending best wishes to those with scans today.

I am 5+3 today and this was the exact time back in January that my spotting started which led to a miscarriage (although this is not to alarm anybody, as I am well aware of other ladies who have had spotting and even heavy bleeding early on and everything turned out fine). I’m sitting tight and taking each day at a time. The midwife rang on Monday to arrange my booking in appointment for Monday 3 August following my self-referral on Friday (much quicker than I expected and nothing like last time, so I do think it just varies from place to place and at different times of year maybe?). I hope to get some more info on whether I could potentially have an early scan, but I don’t think my EPU would unless I started bleeding. I’m also waiting on blood test results for underactive thyroid which I arranged as soon as I missed my period because there is a maternal family history of it and I am showing symptoms (and I discovered it’s something they have to monitor and manage during pregnancy). So it all seems to be moving quite fast, but 12 weeks and feeling more confident about my pregnancy seem light years away. For various reasons DH and I are not telling anybody about the pregnancy until after a 12 week scan and maybe not even then, so I really appreciate being able to talk to you all on here Smile xxx

Boredinthehouse12 · 29/07/2020 11:09

@Mrs1989 thank you for the reassurance. I’m exactly the same with tampons, smears or anything in that area. I also had an awful experience with my first smear and haven’t had one since (shame on me).

@Oldermum80 thank you for your well wishes! X

Sussexbysea · 29/07/2020 11:15

@Boredinthehouse12 hope everything goes ok x

@Mrs1989 I’ve got an overactive thyroid and going to be consultant led through this pregnancy. Meeting with obstetrics next week and I’ll be short of 9 weeks

OP posts:
Sh4mmy · 29/07/2020 11:18

@Oldermum80 aww bless you, I think if it would put your mind at ease then maybe have a private scan? But of course you know you best!

I'm sat in the waiting room now for my bloods and everyone here is heavily pregnant, I feel sick! I'm the same as I came for an early scan and they said I'm only 4/5 weeks but there is no way my dates are wrong, so really just waiting for the inevitable 😢! I'm trying to stay positive but really finding it hard!!

Try to relax if you can, I know that's easier said than done xx

Oldermum80 · 29/07/2020 11:23

@Sh4mmy it’s just awful. I found it so hard to be in the same waiting room as the pregnancy clinic.
It’s a horrible situation to be in and have to wait for confirmation but in your heart know. I hoped that there was a mistake and spent two weeks searching on trying to find positive stories. I hope today proves that they can get it wrong and you get positive news x

Sh4mmy · 29/07/2020 11:28

@Oldermum80 yeah it's really hard being in the same room as more pregnant women, even though it's the EPU!

I've been the same since my scan on Monday, scouring for any hints of news that this might be ok!!

My HCG levels were over 1000 on Monday which is good but I just know deep down! Will see what happens today xx

Mrs1989 · 29/07/2020 11:29

@Boredinthehouse12 no problem - I think there are more ladies out there than I realised who struggle with tampons and smears! At age 18, I was laughed at about the tampon thing by my 13 year old sister, who had learnt to use them with no issues, and I had felt a bit silly about it ever since, but I think it’s common! I know my mum never liked using them either, but she delivered three kids no problem!

I really hope you may be confident in the future to have smears again. I have never found them easy, but had got through two ok with the support of lovely nurses. Then my last one just before Christmas last year was awful and it was all down to the nurse Angry I really wish I’d been confident enough at the time to complain about her. But I am determined to keep having them when due and to request a different nurse if I get one anything like the last! I actually ended up needing a swab taken a week before my internal scan (as i had been spotting by that point) and I had a bit of a breakdown in front of the nurses and told them about my last experience. They couldn’t have been more lovely about it and helped me through it (one held my hand and said I could squeeze it if it helped!). I think 99% of the time, when nurses know you struggle with things like that, they will do all they can to help you through it. I guess I was just unlucky with the last smear xxx

Mrs1989 · 29/07/2020 11:41

@Sussexbysea good to hear that you’re meeting with obstetrics and getting taken care of with your overactive thyroid. I was tested years ago and was told I didn’t have an underactive thyroid as I suspected, but I have been experiencing a fair few symptoms recently and I just want to be sure. So far, my mum, sister, grandma, auntie and cousin have all been diagnosed and take daily meds for it plus my great-grandma apparently had a goitre removed yonks ago. So there’s a history! But nurse reassured me that as long as they diagnose it in first trimester they can manage it and not to worry xxx

Sussexbysea · 29/07/2020 12:17

@Mrs1989 yes, that’s right. It’s all manageable. It would be easier if the thyroid was under control before getting pregnant but hey ho, that’s life. I should have got pregnant until 2021 but my body had other ideas 😂

Sussexbysea · 29/07/2020 12:18

@Sh4mmy it’s so shit they make you sit with the other heavily pregnant women. Will they get the results to you today?

OP posts:
Boredinthehouse12 · 29/07/2020 14:56

I’ve just got in from my scan and I’m not sure how to feel. According to my dates, which I’m pretty confident about (AF is like clockwork and comes every 28 days), I am 7+3, however at the scan I was dated 6+1. I had already prepared myself for the worst so when I saw the heartbeat I was extremely relieved until I was told baby was measuring small. Now I’m emotional back to square one and back to thinking that this is not going to end well.

Also, apart from slightly sore boobs my symptoms are pretty much non existent

Sparkles715 · 29/07/2020 15:19

@Boredinthehouse12 were you tracking your signs of ovulation? It’s probably just that you ovulated later in the cycle. In my last pregnancy I was tracking religiously and I was ovulating very late in my cycle.

Boredinthehouse12 · 29/07/2020 15:29

@Sparkles715 I was only tracking ovulation using an app. I thought it would be accurate as I have regular cycles I just assumed it would be accurate

DSP21 · 29/07/2020 15:39

@Boredinthehouse12 I have very regular cycles and also use the apps but they are wildly inaccurate as I don't ovulate on the same date each month. I have ranged from day 10 to day 19 and that's just in the few months that we were ttc. So it could be that you ovulated much later than you thought x

Sparkles715 · 29/07/2020 15:39

My cycles were regular but I tracked ovulation through tests and also blood tests a couple of cycles. I ovulated really late in my cycle only 8 or 9 days before my period every time. It’s not always like the apps/textbooks tell us!

Boredinthehouse12 · 29/07/2020 16:10

Thank you for giving me hope ladies. I think I’m going to book in for another scan in a few weeks just to make sure baby is growing x

DSP21 · 29/07/2020 16:16

Hey ladies, this might seem silly but I ate a bowl of peaches before reading that they should be avoided in early pregnancy as they can contain pesticides, can cause the body to overheat and link to birth defects/miscarriage. So now I'm freaking out!

Sussexbysea · 29/07/2020 16:32

@Boredinthehouse12 are you having to go back in a few days for more bloods?

OP posts:
Sussexbysea · 29/07/2020 16:34

@DSP21 of all the things the kid wife told me not to eat, peaches weren’t one of them.

OP posts:
aureliacecilia · 29/07/2020 16:36

I've never heard that about peaches and have a heap of them in my fruit bowl. I believe it's important to wash fruit and veg thoroughly when pregnant but I've not see anything else about fruit on the NHS website. www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/foods-to-avoid-pregnant/

DSP21 · 29/07/2020 16:38

@aureliacecilia @Sussexbysea

Thank you! Google is not a pregnant lady's friend!! Think i'll just go by the NHS website from now on
