Has anyone ever been falsely diagnosed as miscarrying?

So Tuesday I had a scan which confirmed miscarriage following bleeding. I would have been 6 weeks.

I had a blood test Tuesday and one yesterday and my HCG levels have more than doubled. Nurse said this confirms I’m pregnant.

My head feels like it’s been scrambled!

Has anyone experienced this?

I really hope it works out for you. Just for balance, I had a doctor once tell me I was ‘definitely’ pregnant during an early mc. Such an unhelpful comment and gave me false hope when the pregnancy was clearly over. You need to get in for another scan as soon as possible!

Yes - had bleeding throughout the first couple of weeks followed by what can only be described as a flood of blood and clots. Had bloods taken which showed my hcg levels hadn't increased and was told I had miscarried and that I had likely passed everything. I'd already had a scan booked for 2 weeks later due to some early concerns about a possible ectopic pregnancy and the bleeding. I asked to be checked and was advised that 1 in 4 miscarry and to basically get on with it and try again. Spent 2 weeks absolutely devastated and went for the scan which at this point was to check that everything had passed - they turned the screen away as I was so upset and the sonographer went to fetch the midwife who informed me that baby was there and developing normally - she's now 3 and as much trouble now as she was then! Based on the scan I'd had a huge blood clot likely formed at implantation and I was incredibly lucky for that not to have caused a miscarriage anyway. It was incredibly traumatic and I had horrendous anxiety throughout my pregnancy but it was worth it in the end - I now just have constant anxiety due to the feral 3 year old that came of it!!

@strawberriesunited levels would have been under half so around 700.

I will ask again today as I wasn’t absorbing what was being said.

Oh wow @goingonahairbunt that’s quite an experience.

@VashtaNerada that is what I think might be the case here.

Hi @HogDogKetchup
Similar happened with me, but rather than saying I miscarried they diagnosed me with a pregnancy of unknown location... as they couldn't see it but my levels were showing I was pregnant. Could just be that your dates are out slightly as mine were. Ill keep my fingers crossed for you. When are they rescanning??

Lazydaisydaydream · 25/07/2020 08:02

Yes, very similar situation, I had miscarriages before and all the bleeding etc was exactly the same, but my levels increased. We went for a scan for them to confirm everything had passed and found a heartbeat. Turns out I was originally pregnant with twins and has lost one of them. The other is currently two years old and playing with his train track right now. Good luck today I hope you get some clearer answers from them, definitely write down anything they tell you - maybe put on speaker phone so your husband can listen as well? I know how hard it is to take information in at a time like this.

I was told I was miscarrying DD - as my HCG levels were falling. I even had a laparoscopy for a suspected ectopic as they could see something indicative of this on the scan and I was in a lot of pain. It turned out the lab had returned the HCG results wrongly and the pregnancy was in the right place - and continued. I did not ever get an explanation for the pain, which continued for about four months and I was hospitalised for a second time.

I hope you have some answers soon. I have had three miscarriages and it is a difficult time.

AugieMarch · 25/07/2020 08:46

Fingers crossed for you. I had a similar situation but the fact my hcg kept rising meant it was treated as a pregnancy of unknown location. I was told that they wouldn’t expect to see anything on a scan until hcg levels were (I think) closer to 1700-2,000. I spent a few weeks going in to the hospital EPU to have bloods checked and a couple more scans as hcg was rising just below the expected level so they were reactant you give me methotrexate in case it turned out to be viable. It turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy right by the ovaries which couldn’t be seen on the scan and unfortunately ruptured right around the stage you’d expect it to be visible on a scan (fortunately the rupture began while I was in EPU so I was taken straight to the emergency department and then surgery). Hopefully you’ll get some clarity very soon.

🤞OP

ShellsAndSunrises · 25/07/2020 15:04

Best of luck today Flowers

Darkstar4855 · 25/07/2020 16:53

Usually if the hCG level is less than a thousand then you wouldn’t see anything on ultrasound scan. Could you have ovulated later than you thought? Fingers crossed for a good outcome.

Cherrybakewellard · 25/07/2020 16:56

Oh my god, I just want to say I have everything crossed for you that this is a continuing pregnancy! I can't imagine the headf**k you've gone through.

HogDogKetchup · 25/07/2020 17:44

My levels were 250 up to 570.

I’ve had more bloods today. Told to ring Monday morning for the results. Need more bloods taken Monday afternoon.

The nurse got my notes and told me what she could but nobody from EPU was there to discuss anymore - though I don’t think anyone would be able to answer all my questions anyway.

I had this also with my DD.
Bleeding, went for scan and they didn't really see much so thought I had possibly miscarried. But continued to do HCG levels for a couple of days and even they weren't 'textbook' and rising like they wanted so they thought it was a possible ectopic. Continued bleeding, had a review scan 2 weeks later and there was my baby with a heartbeat, 2 weeks after that still bleeding there she was and she just turned 7 on Thursday. I bled well into my pregnancy and they didn't really have an answer as to why. Definitely was a very stressful pregnancy, ended up a section aswell because she was breech and wouldn't turn for all the tea in China, no matter what I did. Lol if you met her now she still gives as much trouble as she did right from the start 💗
I really hope you have a good outcome, please keep us updated, have everything crossed for u 🤞🏻

Smidge001 · 27/07/2020 21:17

@HogDogKetchup hi OP. Did you get more blood test results back today? How are you doing?

ZigZagPlant · 27/07/2020 21:35

@Smidge001

Thanks for asking. My levels have risen but not much. First person I spoke to said it wasn’t viable.
Second told me I have a pregnancy of unknown location and I’ve got another scan tomorrow.

ZigZagPlant · 27/07/2020 21:37

Really crap as I can’t have my husband with me.

Totally fed up.

ZigZagPlant · 27/07/2020 21:39

Poor name change there - I was convened I’d given too much away!!

TenShortStories · 27/07/2020 21:47

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Your head must be well and truly muddled now Flowers.

I hope tomorrow's scan sheds some more light on what's going on.

TenThousandSpoons0 · 27/07/2020 21:48

Sorry to hear they’ve not risen much - what was the number? Best of luck for the scan

Smidge001 · 27/07/2020 22:16

Ditto pp.

HotDogKetchup · 28/07/2020 06:01

Only around 600.

I’m 7 weeks now. I really can’t see this being viable.

TenThousandSpoons0 · 28/07/2020 12:48

Ah I’m sorry OP you’re right that doesn’t sound like good news :(

HotDogKetchup · 28/07/2020 14:43

My womb lining is thinner than last week and no other signs anything is untoward. Think maybe my body is just lagging behind with hormones.

Smidge001 · 29/07/2020 00:08

Fingers crossed!
