@Knotemma thank you - I do have some of that pink stuff, didn't occur to me to try that! Why do men drag their feet so much about doing a really basic thing!!! Glad I'm not alone at being really irritated about silly little things like mugs etc! Also similarly to you I've never been a big clean freak before!!! We have spoken now, and I feel better now that I understand how big a part my hormones have been playing. I think before reading about it I thought nesting was just a conscious thing - a practical desire to get things ready before baby arrives. Now I realise it's evolutionary and lead by hormones I do feel a bit better about how obsessive I've been feeling about it, and am allowing myself to feel less guilty about it! I don't think he fully understands but helpfully he had read about nesting instinct in the "pregnancy for men" book I gave him ages ago which @Avocuddles recommended!

@Avocuddles also your bump pic a while back was so lovely, I didn't say! Love your apple tree too :)

@footprintsintheslow wow what a beautiful scan pic! I just love that belly!

footprintsintheslow · 08/09/2020 19:34

I've no idea how many people get induced but I just wanted to add I had a lovely induction with the toddler and they aren't all bad at all. If I could have all my births like that one I'd have 10 children!

Anon20something · 08/09/2020 20:32

@MOGMOGMOG85 thank you! I’m so tired and feeling really anxious about the thought of actually getting to bring him home. Just seeing the car seat gets me teary as never had to take one last time! Just need the next few days to go quick! Because of my anxiety, I chose to have an induction and then with GD diagnosis last week I had to have one anyways!

Speaking of inductions, mine with lily last year was actually really good! So here it is if anyone is wondering - Went in at 9am and had the gels which didn’t do much, just felt like mild period cramps! By 6pm they were able to break my waters, still fine and watched Bake Off! Tens machine and birth ball did absolute wonders so would recommend, as well as hot water bottle! By 2am the contractions were really intense and 3 mins apart but MW said that because I was still speaking between them and happy they should turn the drip up - that bit was not fun! They came every minute after that! Probably worth noting I asked for no physical checks on dilation or monitoring tho - didn’t want to know if she was struggling etc as it wouldn’t change the outcome. Lily was born at 1.10pm after an hour of pushing, she got a little stuck too as she always had her hand by her face and couldn’t love bless her to help me, but the whole thing took just over 24 hours which I don’t think was too bad for a first birth! Was very laidback, dark room mostly just me, DH and MIL. Had no tears or anything either! Induction for me was pretty good!

footprintsintheslow · 08/09/2020 21:25

@Anon20something thanks for letting us know about Lily's birth. It made me have a tear for you all.
I hope you don't mind me asking but when did you know there were issues for Lily's birth?
I think you are an incredibly strong and brave woman for being here and sharing and helping us all. I don't mean to sound twee or patronising but I just feel in awe of us all here.

Anon20something · 08/09/2020 23:07

@footprintsintheslow this little group feels like my safe space, it makes me really proud to share our story with everyone on here - I’ve said it before but I think all the ladies on here are the best mummies in the world and these rainbow babies are so so loved already!

I don’t mind you asking at all - it was around 30 weeks we got the diagnosis of SMA. She stopped moving completely, and after a trip to the assessment unit ended up staying overnight and on delivery suite the next day until a consultant intervened. Lots of tests and appointments followed, and once we had the diagnosis confirmed at 32 weeks we knew she wouldn’t be with us long. We decided not to go down the neonatal route as there was nothing they could do for her, and we wanted her time with us to just be really peaceful and natural. The birth was really lovely and she held on for 20 minutes to meet all her grandparents 🥰

Anon20something · 08/09/2020 23:11

Also I don’t want to panic anyone as we’re all anxious enough so I should add that we had the increased nuchal at 12 weeks and had CVS Testing at 16 weeks which came back clear. What we had was super rare, and meant that I had the testing done at 9 weeks to see if this baby was a carrier like us, completely free of the gene or had the condition... thankfully he isn’t even a carrier! Happy to talk about the genetics side of things if anyone or any new members are experiencing/have experienced similar :)

footprintsintheslow · 09/09/2020 08:09

@Anon20something I'll be honest that I don't think I'd really heard of SMA before so I've been reading up on it this morning. It's so incredibly rare, what a huge shock and terrible thing to live through for you all.

And the birth and time you had together sounded very peaceful and calm too.

Thank you for answering my question. It's hard to know wether to ask sometimes.

How is everyone feeling today? We are off to the park later for an outdoor play date for the toddlers.
I'm in Wales but I've seen the news about England going back to a max of 6 people for social gatherings. Is anyone affected by that?

SunStruck · 09/09/2020 08:13

@MOGMOGMOG85 oh nesting is DEFINITELY a thing! I'm usually never like this, but I've been super domestic and want to get everything fixed (not just cleaned, but also fixed - a wobbly door handle I've happily lived with for 4 years for instance)! I don't know how many Ikea trips I've dragged poor DH along to, and we have already had a few arguments as he's so chilled about everything and I just want to get everything SORTED ASAP 🤦🏻‍♀️ I am currently trying to bite my tongue about DH needing to install the isofix base in the car and car seat... he has said that he will do it (for the past 3 weeks) and I'm trying to leave him to it. But I'm 37 weeks and I think he should do it ASAP 🙄 it's so frustrating.

Thanks ladies about your advice and tip for breastfeeding! I've watched videos and had a look at Le Leche League's homepage, fingers crossed it will work for me.

Anyone feeling anything in particular? Now? I've had a bit of pressure down there, and a bit of period pain but really not even worth mentioning... I'm feeling fine and I can't fathom losing my plug or getting this "bloody show"... I feel so certain I'll go over!

SunStruck · 09/09/2020 08:18

@Anon20something thanks for sharing your birth story with Lily ❤️ I'm glad the induction was fine and that she got to meet everyone for a short while ☺️

@Whiffle77 agree with you on the wine... I can't wait to have a nice glass of red after birth 🤣🤣

AnxiousLady1 · 09/09/2020 08:38

It is really good to read positive induction stories. If the Hypnobirthing course has done one thing it made me a little apprehensive of them where I wasn't before.

I'm with you all on the cleaning/nesting. Started super early and I took it to a new extreme in that I've a cleaning App on my phone 🙈 Reminding me of all the things to clean and how frequently to clean them. I'll probably have to delete it when baby comes as the constant reminders of things to be cleaned won't be helpful at that stage!!! Also sharing in the frustrations with DHs being more relaxed to getting things done. I have a constant fear baby will come early and there's all this unfinished stuff in house and baby things we still have to buy. On a positive note our pram arrived yesterday. So we have one major item sorted.

@Anon20something gosh not long to go now, you must be counting down! Thank you for sharing your lovely story, it sounds very special.

@footprintsintheslow I thought the guidelines were already 6 to be fair!! I didnt realise they had increased although I have been seeing more than 6 outside. Still trying to be careful and follow the guidelines but its hard, I think I will end up seeing less people as the temperature drops and meet ups start happening inside.

Knotemma · 09/09/2020 10:51

I had a really rough afternoon yesterday with sickness and then felt great this morning, do have been to the beach for a dawn paddle boarding session with some friends 😂. May have fallen in and lost a pair of glasses, luckily my dad has a house key and was able to bring me a spare pair or I'd have been in real trouble (I'm blind as a bat and can't see without them). We've had an amazing morning, but I'm ready for a nap now!

@Anon20something thank you for share Lily's birth story with us, and the information about her condition. I'm so glad that you had a positive birth experience, even under such difficult circumstances.

Thanks ladies, it was just SMA awareness month last month so I do like to discuss it, and inductions seem so scary and medicalised I know I liked reading positive stories too 😊

@SunStruck with you there on the pressure! My OH thought I was actually in labour last night as the pressure felt so much I couldn’t stand up straight!! Lots of cramping too and a bit of my plug today but not sure?? I’m literally counting the hours til Saturday, my body feels like it’s had enough 😂

Treaclepie19 · 09/09/2020 13:56

Updating my weeks. Saw the consultant this morning and I'm not longer allowed on MLU because she wants me to have electronic monitoring 😔 She's happy for me not to be induced though. Which I'm glad about personally because my last induction was with Jesse (TFMR) and I have a bit of a mental block over it.

Thank you for sharing @Anon20something

@Treaclepie19 Thats a shame about the MLU. Do you mind me asking why you need the continuous monitoring? While it is a shame it might not be the birth you wanted, I guess you ultimately have to take solace from the fact that they are just making totally sure you and baby are okay through whole labour. x

tmc14 · 09/09/2020 14:41

@Shefliesonherownwings Glad your scan went well, must have been a relief.

@Anon20something Thank you for sharing your story. I'm another one who has now been reading about SMA. And thank you to others for sharing positive induction stories. I'm being induced due to being over 40, so they don't want me to go over 40 weeks by more than a few days as the risks increase more so than if I were younger. I'm really hoping that my body is ready for it, but they're happy for me to switch to a section at any point, so at my next appointment, when we go through all the birth plan, we'll put some time limits in place. I've made my peace with the induction, but don't want it to go on for several days and end up with both baby and me super exhausted like my son's birth (which was spontaneous, but really really long).

@Treaclepie19 Sorry you don't get to be in the MLU. My last birth had to be on labour ward as I was 42 weeks so they said it was too high risk, and as I'm being induced this time I will need to be on Labour ward. I really really didn't want to be, but it was actually nice and fine. They brought me a birthing ball in from the MLU (but you could bring your own I guess?), the lights were low, they showed where my husband should plug in our music, only one person in with me at any one time. They spoke really gently. Even with continuous monitoring I could still move around a bit, not far but I could be upright. The only difference really was no birth pool, and I guess less comfortable bed area. But once in established labour I really wouldn't have noticed where I was! I'm not suggesting it's the same, but I did find the labour ward was a nice place to give birth (and I"d been hoping for a home birth). So hopefully you can still have a really lovely birth, and it's great they're happy for you to wait for labour to start naturally.

Treaclepie19 · 09/09/2020 17:01

Thank you both.

@AnxiousLady1 I've had 2 episodes of reduced movement and my consultant wants to keep an eye. I think possibly with our history she doesn't want to take any chances.

@tmc14 thank you so much for sharing. That's really lovely to read. I have updated my birth plan and out the sort of things I'd like to happen if possible so it's good to hear they did actually listen to you.
I'm telling myself as long as we're both okay that's all that matters.
I wasn't fussed about when she arrived but I'm struggling with being pregnant now. The school run is hard work 🙈
Still glad not to have the induction booked in though, I was torn so it's good to have decided.

Treaclepie19 · 09/09/2020 18:25

I've thought it through more and now Im frustrated again.
Considering I've got no more scans, consultant appointments or anything extra booked in. Why do I need the monitoring in labour? Surely if I need it in labour I need it the next 4-6 weeks. Wish I'd thought about it earlier. Going to ring them tomorrow and find out.
I'm feeling really tired and overwhelmed tonight.

tmc14 · 09/09/2020 19:33

@Treaclepie19 it’s always good to ask. There is evidence that suggests that the more monitoring is done, the more likely interventions are, so, if it’s safe, it’s best to be left alone a bit. Definitely call and ask. It doesn’t seem to make sense if you have no more appointments (my birth will be very monitored but then I also have SO many appointments & checks it at least makes a bit more sense). I never think about things when I’m being told and have made follow up phone calls & appointments a lot to clarify things. Good luck x

Treaclepie19 · 09/09/2020 19:49

Thanks @tmc14. Yeah that's what I'm finding odd. Either I'm more at risk and they should be keeping a close eye or I'm not more at risk and can be left to it. Surely I can't be both?
I was just reading the NICE guidelines though which say you're at higher risk of bad outcomes with two episodes of reduced movements so I guess it's to monitor problems in baby during birth and after in case things go wrong.
I'd have expected more monitoring in the lead up as well though. I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask the reasoning.
I'm absolutely exhausted with worrying today. Between baby, my ds who is struggling with school, my SPD which is dreadful on the school run, covid and trying to sort the house.
I hate moaning because I'm so lucky to have a healthy baby growing but I'm just overwhelmed tonight.

Avocuddles · 09/09/2020 20:13

Hi everyone sorry I've been quiet for a while been in and out of hospital over the past few days and had the joy of an overnight stay last night, am just about to be discharged so looking forward to my own bed tonight! After several more particularly painful days my firm belief that I was suffering from more than heartburn was finally taken seriously.... After a barrage of tests it turns out that as well as growing a baby I've also been growing gallstones which are the cause of the acute pain I've felt on a increasingly frequent number of occasions! Due to my late stage of pregnancy they're basically not going to do anything about them as the scans didn't indicate any organ damage or infection though will be monitored through blood tests. Have been given some strong painkillers to take if it strikes again but hoping that avoiding large fatty meals will be sufficient to keep it at bay - keep your fingers crossed for me! Hopefully after baby arrives they'll clear up of their own accord but if not then they'd look into physical treatments.

@Treaclepie19 sorry you're feeling overwhelmed, you've got a lot on your plate both physically and mentally. I'm still toying with the induction or not question. I have a call with my consultant on Friday so think I'll be pushed to make a decision then, I guess I can always pencil in a date and cancel nearer the time as I'm really unsure at the moment what I do or don't want.

@Anon20something thank you for sharing your birth story, it's good to hear a positive view on the induction experience. I'd never heard of SMA until a couple of years when someone I went to school with gave birth to a daughter with the condition. They didn't know the diagnosis until after the birth and Sophie lived for a few months before she sadly passed away. It's a heartbreaking condition and one which certainly deserves more awareness and research.

@SunStruck I'm not feeling anything in particular other than maybe a little more crampy. Had an internal examination last night and cervix is still firmly closed so not expecting anything soon though know that can change at any time.... Also zero sign of breast milk here....

@MOGMOGMOG85 our local area publishes monthly stats re births which imply almost 40% of women here are induced!

Will catch up on the rest of posts once I've got home and had a nice soak in the bath.

@Avocuddles hope you’re feeling better!

Aww bless her; SMA is really a rare and awful condition. I’ve only met 2 families through Instagram who’ve lost children to SMA. Lily’s condition was the rarest form with her movement being affected while I was pregnant and her not being able to breathe on her own. Our local hospital has one of the best Fetal medicine units in the country and genetics dept, otherwise I don’t think we’d have found out until after either.

AnxiousLady1 · 09/09/2020 22:54

@Anon20something I hadn't realised that Lilys condition was SMA 😢. It's something I did a little research on a couple of months back after hearing a story on the radio about parents trying to raise funds for some treatment in the States for their little boy (he was nearly 8 months when diagnosed I think). Absolutely broke my heart. Sadly I heard recently that their little boy tested for some antibodies that made him incompatible with the treatment (which has to be before they are 2 years old) and his parents made the brave decision to donate all the money raised to another little girl with exact same condition hoping to have same treatment. 😢

@AnxiousLady1 My heart just breaks when I hear of other families affected. Such a brave thing to do to donate the money - I really hope that one day they find some cure or treatment. Such a cruel illness. In a way I am grateful that we found out while I was Pregnant, could prepare ourselves and I truly believe we did the best we could for her in our situation. She had such a peaceful and loved life. We’ll not try again for another sibling for lily and baby boy after he (hopefully!) arrives safely, it’s just too hard and too risky for us as it’s 1 in 4 that baby would be affected or 50% they’d be a carrier like us. Really pleased though that more people are finding out about it and learning about SMA though!

Hello all! Been AWOL for the last 3 weeks its been crazy! The hectic life of a newborn (who's amazing) and I've been in and out of hospital too with a protruding suture from c section wound and the starting of an infection as well as 2 major flare ups of gallstones! Currently sat in a&e as a result!

Haven't caught up, had a quick glance through lots going on!
@Avocuddles sorry to see you've got the same issue as me with gallstones, I wish I could say it gets better but mine have gotten worse!!

Picture of my wee Henry as dont think I've added one! Also thanks to whoever updated me in the list!!
