That's very strange about not being told the gender. I'm in Staffordshire and was told that they couldn't guarantee I would be told but they would say if they could see (I guess they don't have time specifically to look) and they wouldn't write it down despite my husband not being allowed in. As it happened we had already found out via the NIPT test and the Sonographer on the day asked if I wanted to know and confirmed it. I have heard of some trusts having a policy not to tell in an area where it may be a cultural issue but that seems a little silly as if that was the case people would just pay to go private!

dinosaur17 · 24/07/2020 07:38

@Missworry92 Yes that is very bizarre? I doubt they’re feeding that money back into the NHS, surely if anything they’d want to keep your care hospital based as much as possible?
@confused107 That’s understandable I suppose and they have to cover themselves in case they get it wrong. But I think everyone accepts the possibility when they ask don’t they? Surely if you asked to know what you were having you’d assume the family had no cultural issue with finding out? Even that’s a bit odd! X

excitednerves · 24/07/2020 07:56

I was told that they’re not scanning for baby’s sex but would tell me if they could.... that said, my sonographer tried threee different times to try to get a really clear look. Baby still kept her legs crossed despite wigging my hips and jumping up and down. We’re 80% sure she’s a girl though from what the sonograoher could see

kkr168 · 24/07/2020 08:07

@excitednerves it will look like a new house if it ever gets finished, feels as though I'm living on a building site at the moment!! We only got going on most of the rooms as DH couldn't work due to the virus, he never has time off, so I made the most of him being home. He is a typical tradesman though, he will go above & beyond for customers but hates 'working' on his own home.

During my 20 week scan the lady asked if I wanted to find out the sex, baby was being awkward though & wouldn't show any bits, so she couldn't say either way. I did have a private scan at 16 weeks, they were convinced baby is a boy & I have a 4d scan booked for 16th August, so I will get them to check again. I'm still thinking girl, this pregnancy is just so different from my sons, I think if i'm confronted with a 4d view of baby's bits I'll finally believe it.

danielasummer · 24/07/2020 08:37

@peachypetite thanks, it does look really lovely! We'll go for that in a few rooms with Egyptian cotton in others and in the landing/hallway. Thinking Egyptian cotton for the nursery at the moment but I change my mind every 5 seconds so we shall see.

@Missworry92 it's such a gorgeous colour, it looked very dark against the white we currently have but I think it'll be fine when it's all painted.

Will everyone be putting up photos of their nurseries when finished? :)

@confused107 I always trust the NHS website but I do have a thing about fumes, my husband has said he'll do it all though so I'll just do all of the cutting in which is my fave job anyway!

With finding out the gender I know some hospitals refuse to tell their patients for various reasons, which is a shame as again, nothing seems to be consistent across counties.

peachypetite · 24/07/2020 08:45

You really do realise how different things are between NHS trusts. No consistency.

Beccarans89 · 24/07/2020 09:40

Hi all! I've been quiet for a little while but still been catching up daily, it's lovely to see all the updates and nursery chat! How is everyone doing movement wise? I have an anterior placenta and was overweight when I got pregnant which I know can cause more cushioning but I haven't felt baby much at all yesterday or this morning, is anyone else still getting really sporadic movements? I can't wait until they are more regular so I don't need to keep worrying! 😄 Hopefully he's just changed position!

peachypetite · 24/07/2020 09:43

@Beccarans89 how many weeks are you? I’m anterior too and almost 22 weeks and have felt only the tiniest fluttering sensation every now and then in the last couple of days.

Beccarans89 · 24/07/2020 09:53

@peachypetite sorry, that would have been helpful wouldn't it 😄 I'm 22+2 so a similar stage to you! Ok that's reassuring! I think because I'm not too busy I've got lots of time to focus on it if I haven't felt much! Thank you 😊 hopefully we will feel lots more soon!

Bluebell2020 · 24/07/2020 09:58

@Beccarans89 I'm 22 weeks with an anterior placenta. I can have one day where I feel definite kicks and one where I feel nothing at all for the whole day. BMI of 19 pre pregnancy with little weight gain so far. I'm also sat around working at a computer most of the day (not my normal role!!) so it's not like I'm too busy to notice either! Can't wait until movements because daily and a bit more consistent!! x

Beccarans89 · 24/07/2020 10:01

@Bluebell2020 that's really good to know, thank you! Yes it's definitely the days where I feel nothing that I worry! Hopefully we feel more definite movements soon! 🤞🏼

confused107 · 24/07/2020 10:02

Hi @Beccarans89 I don't have a anterior placenta and I'm 21 weeks and movement is not consistent for me. The midwife told me that this would be normal until around 26 weeks but to me this is my new thing to be anxious about! My mom brought me a cute bracelet to count the movements but I am not wearing it at the moment as it makes me worry more!

Pinktruffle · 24/07/2020 10:23

@dinosaur17 I think the cultural issues are more to do with people aborting babies of certain genders, not them having a cultural issue with finding out. Certain NHS areas have taken a policy of just not telling, even some private scan places take that on board in certain areas and won't tell until after 22 weeks.

Hanrora06 · 24/07/2020 10:50

@excitednerves what stretchy sling did you go for? There's so many, I would like to try our local sling library closer to the time for sure if they're open and allowing people in and hopefully that'll make the decision easier!

I have an anterior placenta also, on my private scan it said 'anterior high', and I asked the consultant and he said that it was totaly fine. I've still felt movements, like little flutters and pops, but they haven't particularly changed for a few weeks- just every now and then. They do seem to move about- sometimes quite low, sometimes much higher so I've no idea what that's about as I'm sure the baby can't be moving as much as that?? But I have no idea, all the stuff I've googled talks about baby position in relation to birth not just how it moves about in general. So I might ask more about it on my 20 week scan- which is a week on Monday! Grin

So after feeling sick yesterday I am SO emotional today. Like crying at so many things. I started crying when I saw my dog as I love her so much and then I started crying that my husband got up earlier to do some work in the other room...bizarre!!

Kpm7 · 24/07/2020 11:09

Morning ladies. Lovely to hear and see some of the nursery ideas. I love the Egyptian cotton colour. I had that in my previous house. Not decorated where we are as it’s just a temp place for now. Although I am tempted.

...Has anybody got rib ache. I am suffering badly with left side only rib ache. It moves to the back sometimes but my front is bad this morning.

Think it could be how the baby is positioned? I am 20 weeks today. Not felt any movements as of yet. I have been sick this morning so I am hoping that’s a good sign.

Scan next week. Can’t wait to be reassured everything is ok.

Xx

peachypetite · 24/07/2020 11:14

I’m getting pains in my pelvis. Like a stitch rather than a stabbing pain. Had just been the right hand side but today it’s the other. So glad I have my ball it really does help.

Kpm7 · 24/07/2020 11:29

Think I need to invest in a ball xx

alphabetti · 24/07/2020 11:54

I had my 20 week scan today and baby looks nice and healthy. Measurements show to be a little on the smaller side but she said not concerned as I’m small myself. My older 2 were 7lb 4oz and 7lb 0oz but my partners son was 9lb 9oz so I was slightly worried about having a big baby haha Looks like I’m having a girl which is perfect balance for us as then together me and partner have 2 boys and 2 girls. And this will definitely be the last!!! Baby was breach but I was told plenty at this size they move constantly.

Kpm7 · 24/07/2020 12:42

@alphabetti congratulations that’s lovely to hear. Super excited for mine next week x

Kj1010 · 24/07/2020 12:58
