@peachypetite we have started o n our nursery. It's a really small room so we've been busy clearing it out, got rid of the old single bed that was in there and need to clear out the rest of our stuff (we were using it as a walk in wardrobe!) A new radiator needs to be fitted and our nursery furniture arrives on 7th August.

DH wants to get it all set up a.s.a.p. We renovated the house about 18 months ago so had painted it with a nursery in mind and also picked the carpet with the intention of it being a nursery. We need to get some wall stickers but will go for something gender neutral as we don't know what we are having yet. I'm really looking forward to it all being done!

peachypetite · 23/07/2020 15:33

@Pinktruffle sounds like good progress. This has spurred me on to finally sort out some of the bags and boxes from our first house that got dumped in that room, which we never go in. I have loads of stuff for charity and a random box with old paperwork, birthday cards, etc. I’ve ordered some beautiful safari decals from Etsy, someone else linked them earlier in the thread, perfect for neutral.

Kj1010 · 23/07/2020 15:42

I think once I have my scan next week and they say all is looking good I might just stick with it and put in my shed that way it's not come in house at all and its is a lovely pram could maybe find it again on a deal but maybe not the same with finding a different pram but do like this one

confused107 · 23/07/2020 16:15

I'm inspired by the nursery progress on here. Think there is going to be a lot of eBaying and sorting into storage boxes and the loft from me this weekend.

Think we are going to order this from mamas and papas. Heard good things about quality and it's in the sale: www.mamasandpapas.com/en-gb/ripley-3-piece-nursery-range-with-cot-bed-dresser-wardrobe-white/p/rarp98600

With these safari stickers from Etsy (we know we are having a girl: etsy.me/2IFVJ1j

And painting the walls deluxe 'Apple Blossom' with a blush pink blackout blind and bedding

I'm not sure if we will have room for an actual nursing chair but been eyeing this up on wayfair if not. Going to wait to see what space we have after the furniture is in and it's out of stock for now anyway: www.wayfair.co.uk/furniture/pdp/corrigan-studio-ahern-rocking-chair-u000990148.html?st=1&piid=1691406666

danielasummer · 23/07/2020 16:29

So exciting reading all of the nursery posts! I love the wall decals and will definitely be buying some for baby.

We aren't finding out the sex, so having to go neutral. Side note, has anyone got Dulux Egyptian Cotton or Nutmeg White anywhere in their house? We're thinking of these colours for the nursery.

Is everyone doing the painting themselves? Surely in 2020 paint is safe for preggo ladies.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hope you're all having a lovely Thursday x

peachypetite · 23/07/2020 16:32

I ordered from that Etsy seller too! @danielasummer I have nutmeg white and it’s lovely. A neutral with a warm undertone.

confused107 · 23/07/2020 16:44

@danielasummer that's a fair point about painting, never even thought that it might not be safe. Obviously if I can convince the husband to to the lot then it's a win, but I was looking forward to helping!

Pinktruffle · 23/07/2020 17:23

I'm getting a similar set to yours @confused107. I've got the Heaton though, which is in grey.

I asked my midwife and she said as long as its water based paints, it's fine.

I have lots of boxes full of stuff like that too @peachpetite. It's all in waterproof boxes in the loft now!

Hi ladies,
I’m still a few weeks off my 20 week scan but thrilled that our hospital are now allowing partners to attend.
My only query, and really it’s no biggie, will be happy to see a healthy baby! But our local hospital has said they will not be identifying the gender at the scan, in keeping with government guidance?

Has anyone else has this? I find it a bit odd as they’re already scanning, the only thing I can think is that it’s not “necessary” for the tech to have physical contact for longer than needed?
However I have friends who unfortunately had to attend their scans alone at the same hospital but were able to find out?

I will ask the midwife when I speak to her but just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Hanrora06 · 23/07/2020 18:23

@ChampooPapi sorry, late reply but thanks for the tips! My friends said very similar. One friend likes her buggy for her little girl as she sleeps in it for naps, and she can rock her to sleep in it and whatever. My other barely used it after the early days but really valued it then when she was exhausted and frazzled. Luckily, we do have a sling library in our area, plus, a friend has offered their travel system to us! Can’t believe how nice and generous people are at time, feel pretty lucky. So at least we’ll have the backup especially for the early days.

@EithneBlue thanks for sharing the sling thread! I’ll check it out! My friend swears by her sling/carrier so It’s definitely my preference. I’ve also seen these skin to skin t shirts which I might investigate for around the house...

Hanrora06 · 23/07/2020 19:36

Ugh feeling sick today. Bad headaches all night last night. Spent the afternoon laying on the bed watching frozen 2 feeling sorry for myself. I guess every now and then feeling rubbish is inevitable but yeah still not great.

NaomiB79 · 23/07/2020 20:13

@dinosaur17 I haven't heard anything about hospitals not telling you the gender (if you want to know) because of Covid. That seems strange to me. My sonographer asked me at my 20 week scan if I wanted to know and I don't know anyone else who hasn't been able to find out if they wanted to at that scan. I live in Scotland so it might be different up here tho.

dinosaur17 · 23/07/2020 20:30

@NaomiB79 Thank you. It seems a bit strange doesn’t it but I’m guessing there’s a good reason. I would have understood if you wanted it written down somewhere to give to a relative or something if you didn’t want to know because of handing over pieces of paper. But that’s all I could think?
X

NaomiB79 · 23/07/2020 21:13

@dinosaur17 I think most places won't write it down even in normal times, I don't think they'll commit something to writing in case it's wrong. I asked at mine if they would do that so we could open it and find out together but they said they wouldn't. We ended up booking a private scan so my partner could come and we found out there together which was lovely. If you want to find out the gender I would recommend doing it that way x

dinosaur17 · 23/07/2020 21:17

No that’s a good point I suppose! All very odd. I think that’s probably what we’ll end up doing. X

excitednerves · 23/07/2020 21:20

Oh my goodness @kkr168 you’ll have a whole new house by the time baby arrives!

excitednerves · 23/07/2020 21:23

For those wondering about slings, I used my stretchy wrap sling loads with my newborn, but still liked having the pram when he fell asleep especially if I was out in a restaurant/cafe and I was free to eat and drink. Loved my ergo360 when he got a bit bigger too, especially for travelling. He always fell asleep being carried too.

MummyShark97 · 23/07/2020 21:24

Mine asked if I wanted to know too @dinosaur17 I'd already found out and to be fair he was making NO attempts to hide that he's a little boy😂 I'm really confused as to why they wouldn't tell you...

PipTed · 23/07/2020 21:25

Hello, just catching up. I read from a few sources that paint fumes can be harmful, so I’ve made my OH paint the walls of our recently converted cellar. 🙈😂 he HATES painting, too. I might avoid telling him this detail.

Our nursery is in progress. We can’t finish it though, as we’re having our bathroom done soon and need to put the bath in there (it’s a cast iron one, otherwise we’d have got a new one) while it’s decorated. I’ve got a feeling there’s going to be a few last minute dashes going on to get things sorted in time for baby.

PipTed · 23/07/2020 21:28

3 more pay days has scared the crap out of me 😱😱😱

dinosaur17 · 23/07/2020 21:31

@MummyShark97 I can’t work it out, hopefully they’ll just ask but I’ll clarify with the midwife then just book a private scan if they’re really not doing it.
I’ve had a look at the guidelines for maternity care and there’s no mention of it so I can only assume it’s due to limiting contact time to a minimum x

MummyShark97 · 23/07/2020 21:56

@PipTed same, brings it so close !

Kj1010 · 23/07/2020 22:22

I'm in essex and my scan is tuesday and have been told partner can not come in still as they havent been told anything I really do have a feeling this is gonna be like this for the rest of the year so I will be hoping that when I go in to labour I can hold out for as long as possible before going up the hospital lol

Missworry92 · 23/07/2020 23:37

@danielasummer my kitchen is painted in Egyptian cotton and I think it's very warm and neutral, think it would be a great colour for a nursery too!
@dinosaur17 I'm from herefordshire and at our hospital they don't tell us the gender either, had to have a private scan to find out. All ladies say it's just companies trying to make money out of it but not sure how that benefits NHS in any way..
