@EithneBlue your spreadsheet sounds magnificent Grin keep on fighting for your £! Honestly I do think nct seem a bit cheeky, I was quoted the same price for a course in my area that was longer elsewhere? Really didn’t get the logic of how the hours were made up and how some could be shorter than others. @Kpm7 so in a nutshell, for winter babies you’ll want packs of short sleeve www.marksandspencer.com/7-pack-organic-pure-cotton-bodysuits/p/clp60203949?extid=ps_ps-gpla_ggl_kw_ch__-UK---&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhO2O5p7b6gIVg7TtCh1jlQivEAQYByABEgKQjvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds to wear under sleepsuits if going out so baby has layers . Look for sleepsuits with feet so no need for socks and integrated scratch mitts.
For the first few months probably not that likely you’ll bother with actual Outfits unless a special occasion like Christmas Star. There was another thread on here I was following which suggested Tu at Sainsburys, Next and M&S washed well and had good quality. Most people said to avoid Matalan and Asda.

Kpm7 · 20/07/2020 09:25

Thank you @peachypetite. How many in total. Vests, sleep suits, bibs etc xx

lionsmum · 20/07/2020 11:52

Hi everyone, hope you are all keeping well😊 can't believe we are all almost half way now, wish the rest of the time would pass quickly! Just catching up on all the chat. @Kj1010 love your choice of baby grows, I have the rainbow one too!

@Bluejayway91 I'm 5ft and have the pharmedoc one from Amazon, it's amazing can't really rate it enough, had my first sleep without it last night & didn't realise how much it was doing for me... missed it so much!

So lovely being able to feel baby moving around and things, it's wonderful. Also wondering about how much of each to by. Consultant said all going well my little one will be coming between 36-37 weeks (so will be start of Nov due date now!) but unsure of how many small sizes to buy as I know he will need them but not for too long (hopefully). Want to be as organised as possible, DS1 was born at 35 weeks but we never needed to buy any small clothes for him unfortunately as he never made it out of the NICU. Have any of you had a baby born slightly early, and if so how long were you in for?x

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 12:01

Hey @Kpm7 I'd say about ten sleep-suits, all with feet and integrated scratch mits of you can get. And the same number of bodysuits, or sleeveless vests, 2 cardigans and 2 hats so

10 X Sleepsuits
10 X Vests/bodysuits
2 X Cardigans
2 X Hats

One could obviously survive with less baby grows but this is a good number for washing less, choice of thickness as well as they all come up different depending on which brands ect.

As extras you can also get these

4 X Footed Trousers
4 X long sleeve Vests

😘

Oh I forget sizes 🤦 and bundlers/sleeping bags
I'll update in a sec

@Kpm7 ☺️

Baby Essential List

3/4 X Sleep-suit size newborn
3/4 X Sleeveless Vest/ short sleeve bodysuit size newborn
1 X Hat size newborn

6/7 X Sleepsuits size 0-3 months
6/7 X Sleeveless Vests/bodysuits size 0-3 months
2 X Cardigans size 0-3 months
2 X Hats size 0-3 months
3/4 X Footed leggings 0-3 months
3/4 X Long Sleeve Kimono style/wrap front bodysuit 0-3 months
2 X sleeping bags/grobags 0-6 months
2 X Cellular Blankets for swaddling

Potentially one non waterproof snow suit type arrangement, some people use them a lot some don't use them at all, you can get a fleece one in a start shape that is useful, or any type you like really!

@ChampooPapi bless thank you so much. Appreciate that.

I think I was defo over thinking xx

confused107 · 20/07/2020 12:39

@ChampooPapi thank you so much for that! I've screen grabbed and know this will really come in handy

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 13:21

@confused107 @Kpm7 no worried ladies, my third and fourth babies now so I've been to this newborn barbeque before 😆. Those can be your staples and really don't go over to much or at all, because you will also be given a fair amount (and by fair amount, I mean bloody multitude!) Or clothing from 0-6 months from family and friends too. But even if you were given nothing, that list will totally see you through the first 3 months.

Obviously materials and whether you want to go for zip fronted, poppers, plain envelope necks, or wrap fronted kimono style, for the sleep-suits/vests

And you may want organic cotton, merino, wool and silk mix, non bleached cotton, standard cotton ect

These are more personal choices.

Frankly with central heating, the fact we are in the UK, and snuggling generally with bankers and on yourself, you can easily just get all cotton in everything.

You could invest in swaddles but large muslin squares do exactly the same thing, a couple of bundlers would also come in useful but either 0-3 months or 3-6 months would be fine for those.

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 13:23

Snuggling with bankers!

Snuggling with blankets

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 13:24

Those pre made swaddle things are very useless to be honest.

The cellular Blanket or a large muslin does the same thing and grows with the baby more then these pre made Velcro things

OP posts:
nearlyamummyof2boys · 20/07/2020 14:16

@ChampooPapi I found those pre made swaddles are useless as well!

I think your essential list is great - they grow so quick anyways!
I think any other nice little 'outfits' or things you put them in you will generally find other people get you.
Or if there's anything really nice that catches your eye them at you can then keep as keepsakes.

I love little cardigans to throw over the babies when we go out to almost 'smarten up' sleepsuits but convenience is what you want - attached mittens and feet! 🥰🥰🥰

Can't wait to do a little Christmas outfit!

Scan tomorrow super excited ❤️

nearlyamummyof2boys · 20/07/2020 14:24

How cute is this Peter Rabbit outfit!

I love these wrap vests from Joules - I know it's a bit pricey but would sell on really well - I think they're unisex as well!

And these Jojo Maman muslins 🐰💙💓

Oh my goodness @nearlyamummyof2boys all gorgeous! I actually had some Joules vouchers for my birthday last week with strict orders to spend the money on myself but I'm already tempted!

Just thinking about the sleeping bags. Do I need to get a few different togs? Just trying to avoid buying stuff that will be grown out of before it's the right season to use them

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 15:39

@nearlyamummyof2boys the way to my heart is a wrap vest 🥰 those joules ones are lovely 💜

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 15:43

@ confused107 for your two sleeping bags I'd advise one in a 2 and a half tog and one in a 2 tog. As you can put a baby in them with only a vest, or naked if it suddenly gets very hot again in March/April like it did a few years back, it's fine they are nice thick winter ones. The 3 and a half tog are incredibly thick and more like a duvet so better for winter babies over a year really when they are better at regulating their temperature.

Or just get two in a two and a half tog. Having two is basically so if/when the baby is sick ALL over it in the night you have a spare 👍

@confused107

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 15:46

Also they can obviously just sleep.in baby grows and blankets, or naked in a nappy under a muslin when it's super warm. The advise before on here about if your too hot so is your baby! Or visa versa. If you've got just a t shirt on indoors in December because your heating is pumping then the baby should also be in short sleeves ect

OP posts:
nearlyamummyof2boys · 20/07/2020 15:46

@confused107 I think sometimes you can get packs of different togs in one pack but on most of the articles they say 2 or 2.5 is fine all year round maybe less if it's hot in the summer.
Depends what temperature your nursery is as well. I had a few 2 for when some are in the wash and just 1 light 1.5 for in the summer - but also depends on the size because it probably won't get that warm before our babies are 6 months and maybe need the bigger size.

I've been told the same about buying stuff for myself - I kept asking for baby things for my birthday 🎁

nearlyamummyof2boys · 20/07/2020 15:49

I meant 1.0 in the summer - but like @ChampooPapi my baby was fine just with muslin when it was very hot - I was very paranoid about my DS getting to hot.

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 15:51

My bug bare is seeing babies in those chunky snow suits they sell everywhere, like we live in Alaska or something!, on a very mild September/October afternoon where it's probably still about fifteen degrees.

But because it's not sunny and it's autumn or even winter, on goes the full snow suit and blanket in the stroller, while the parent puffs away sweating I their own light overcoat 🤷‍♀️ the poor child litrally is beetroot!

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 15:52

@nearlyamummyof2boys yes a 1 tog, or even 0.5 tog bag is really useful, but for next summer so if buying now people should be looking for 6-12 months 👍

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 15:54

@nearlyamummyof2boys oh definitely, every time I get given any money I want to buy things for the kids or the new babies, there's always that '1 more thing' you want 😆

OP posts:
nearlyamummyof2boys · 20/07/2020 15:58

I like this shade I've just seen in Jojo for the babies pram.
I think it's perfect to stop them over heating.
