Sorry I keep posting pics! I just have no one to discuss baby stuff with - so lovely to do it here ❤️

confused107 · 20/07/2020 16:14

Thanks both, will look for 2 and 2.5 tog

Hanrora06 · 20/07/2020 17:45

Just caught through on the thread! So much good information, @ChampooPapi, thank you for those lists, I have screen shot and will add it to my spreadsheet! I am inspired by @EithneBlue to make mine much better! I am always ridiculously impressed by a good spreadsheet as I have no idea how to use them properly. I may ask my friend to teach me on a zoom chat as she makes some incredible ones lol.

@kpm7 basically just put in your spreadsheet what you want- I’ve used it to gather and compare prices, but you could use it to list what you already have as well, or whatever really! I’m not buying yet, so mine is to help me plan what I will buy and keep track of prices. Think I will be adding a bouncy ball to the ‘to-buy’ list!

Can I ask a question re sleeping: so there's the swaddle with a muslin or blanket, but do you need that and a sleeping bag? Or one or the other? Or how do you choose which one to go for and when?

Hanrora06 · 20/07/2020 17:46

@Bluejayway91 I bought a pregnancy pillow but it is huuuuge, much too big, plus doesn’t really do the job of keeping me on my back. I’ll need to send it back but will have to request assistance to get it to the post office as the box is so big. It was Queen Rose from Amazon, I’ve got a Genii instead which is much, much better. Does a much better job at what it’s intended for. Though I must admit I did enjoy the huge snuggly U shaped pillow (as did my dog) it’s just not practical!

Hanrora06 · 20/07/2020 17:48

Today I went to work for the first time since March!
Was just a school prep day before starting properly in September- it was really nice. I told HR I was pregnant on Friday, as I felt I would have to explain to my class teacher why I couldn’t move tables or stand on chairs to take down displays. I think the baby had a bit of a shock with all the moving around I've done though though lol, I kept imagining them thinking ‘what on earth is she doing??’. I’ve spent most of lockdown sat at my desk chair studying (probably the reason for the sciatica Confused), so I definitely noticed baby has been moving about lot more today in response!

Babyhope98 · 20/07/2020 17:50

What tog would you get for the sleeping bag I was thinking 2.5 as it’s winter ? @ChampooPapi

Babyhope98 · 20/07/2020 17:51

Your list is really helpful for us first time mums thank you 🥰

Babyhope98 · 20/07/2020 17:57

Sorry I have just seen you have discussed the tog of a sleeping bag on the previous page, I just had a skim read at first @ChampooPapi

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 18:27

Going by your list @ChampooPapi I've got a little carried away.
Went through all the babies clothes & I've got........
10 sleep-suits & 12 vests in newborn/first size
7 sleep-suits, 5 vests & 5 outfits (long sleeve top & bottoms) in upto 1 month
3 x sleep-suits, 10 x vests, 3 x cardigans & 3 x outfits (t-shirt & bottoms) in 0-3 months.
3 x sleeping bags in 2.5 tog
2 x cellular blankets
socks x 5
hats x 6
13 bibs

I'll probably exchange some of the newborn sleep-suits for 0-3 months, then I should be sorted. If family want to get any clothes I'll ask them to buy 3 months +

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 18:40

@Hanrora06 you would definitely not swaddle and do a sleeping bag, so if you were swaddling at night, depending on room temperature, you'd probably use a sleep-suit as well as a best underneath. However if using a sleeping bad you'd just use the bag and the sleep-suit and you can always then layer blankets over the top. I usually swaddle in the day when the house is warmer for naps, then switch to the bag for night as I don't usually have the heating on over night time even in winter, as it is easier to kind of regulate temperature. I.e if you wake for the first post midnight feed at say 2am and the temp has dropped in the room from the 18 it was at 11pm to 15, then after the feed i'd add a blanket, maybe even two thinner ones, over the top of the sleeping bag when I put the baby back down.

But you can always add another swaddle as well, these can be layered too.

So it's a personal choice, most babies love swaddling in the first month or so, then you kind of find they love moving their arms more and you kind of stop doing it without realising I find any more.

This is why cellular blankets are so useful because they can be either swaddles or used as layers over sleeping bags.

I can't say how useful the gro temp clock is, even if you don't use any of their products, just each night feed being able to see that temperature, and the colour even glowing away to alert you of what the baby should be 'wearing' is so good when your brain is basically mush. Yes the gro chart says add another layer on the baby if it's got colder, but you don't have to do that, you can add another layer 'to' the baby, so a blanket instead of a vest, or cardigan.

It becomes complete second nature that swift glace at the temp and the colour, combined with just feeling the baby obviously! It really is very obvious as well when the baby is too hot, quick back of the neck check, same with too cold. Inside those next to me cribs I swear they are never cold if they are in a bag and a sleep-suit, just for those nights where the temp really drops dramatically, those are the only times you find yourself layering up a blanket or two, or adding another swaddle.

@kkr168 ahhh, looks good to me! It's great to have choices and it's so fun dressing them so don't worry at all your a few extra, but they do wear their 0-3 and 3-6 months for so much longer then the newborn stuff. Some babies actually never wear their newborn if they are 9 or 10 pounders. Generally they get between 2-4 weeks wear I'd say if they are born 39 weeks plus out fo their newborn things

I'm torn on what sizes to buy.. my last baby was 9lb13 so don't want to buy too much newborn, but then this one might be smaller and I'll be stuck with all 0-3 🤦🏼‍♀️

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 18:45

Newborns are very small.and it is nice not to have them flapping around in the 0-3 months stuff. Sizes also vary which is a pain in different brands too, so some of your 0-3 months will extend and some will fit a few days post birth no doubt!. But your list looks absolutely brilliant, you have everything you need and definitely they are in the 6-12 month stuff for so much longer so if people ask that's the size you want ☺️

I've definitely overdone it on the clothes buying front too 🙈. I haven't bought anything bigger than 0-3 months though so will definitely ask family and friends to buy us that if they want to get us a gift then we should be sorted for clothes for a while.

My neighbour works with disadvantaged families so I will give her everything we don't use or don't need once our baby has grown out of it so at least everything should get used more than once and I know it has gone to someone who really needs it after us.

@lc86 my sister had a little one last year about 8lb. She told me don’t worry too much about newborn because they literally are going on to 0-3 straight away. I don’t think I have any newborn stuff maybe 1 pack of grows but I will leave it at that I think. Xx

If baby comes and is tiny you can always send someone to Asda to get some smaller stuff xx

peachypetite · 20/07/2020 21:04

Do Any of u ladies get any health anxiety I'm suddenly having it now like worrying bout breast cancer etc really is over whelming me at moment think I will have to talk to someone if I cant get it under control I've always been a worrier but being pregnant at 41 has brought it on badly and also doesn't help the leaflets u get saying as u age etc u become higher risk so now I'm poking g my boobs about and feel like I can feel lumps in there silly I know

chubbyhotchoc · 20/07/2020 21:48

@Kj1010 not specific Health anxiety but I have crippling anxiety in general about a lot of things. Most of my anxieties are about my dd so I'm struggling already with another one to worry about but I also do worry a lot about cancer etc. My smear has been delayed due to pregnancy and worrying about that has kept me up a good few nights. I also have a lump in my mouth that was supposed to be checked at the hospital prior to covid but they cancelled my appointment. It's probably a cyst but that worries me too.
