@Hanrora06 you would definitely not swaddle and do a sleeping bag, so if you were swaddling at night, depending on room temperature, you'd probably use a sleep-suit as well as a best underneath. However if using a sleeping bad you'd just use the bag and the sleep-suit and you can always then layer blankets over the top. I usually swaddle in the day when the house is warmer for naps, then switch to the bag for night as I don't usually have the heating on over night time even in winter, as it is easier to kind of regulate temperature. I.e if you wake for the first post midnight feed at say 2am and the temp has dropped in the room from the 18 it was at 11pm to 15, then after the feed i'd add a blanket, maybe even two thinner ones, over the top of the sleeping bag when I put the baby back down.
But you can always add another swaddle as well, these can be layered too.
So it's a personal choice, most babies love swaddling in the first month or so, then you kind of find they love moving their arms more and you kind of stop doing it without realising I find any more.
This is why cellular blankets are so useful because they can be either swaddles or used as layers over sleeping bags.
I can't say how useful the gro temp clock is, even if you don't use any of their products, just each night feed being able to see that temperature, and the colour even glowing away to alert you of what the baby should be 'wearing' is so good when your brain is basically mush. Yes the gro chart says add another layer on the baby if it's got colder, but you don't have to do that, you can add another layer 'to' the baby, so a blanket instead of a vest, or cardigan.
It becomes complete second nature that swift glace at the temp and the colour, combined with just feeling the baby obviously! It really is very obvious as well when the baby is too hot, quick back of the neck check, same with too cold. Inside those next to me cribs I swear they are never cold if they are in a bag and a sleep-suit, just for those nights where the temp really drops dramatically, those are the only times you find yourself layering up a blanket or two, or adding another swaddle.
