we had our 20 week scan last week! We found out we're having a blue! I've got to go back next week for a rescan as they couldnt get all the images they wanted of his little heart, they've said there's nothing to worry about so I'm just praying everything goes ok and just excited to see my little one again! I've felt little nudges and twitches buy no big kicks yet, assuming it's because I'm very overweight and carry most of my weight on my belly!

Hanrora06 · 16/07/2020 11:34

So interesting in how the whooping cough vaccine is done differently in different places! My community midwife told on my 16 week phonecall I could get it from then, so to just book it with my GP, which I did and there was no issues with that at all. But then it seems a lot of people are told to combine it with 20 weeks! I suppose either way must be seen as good, tbh I can see the benefit of combining it in 1 appointment rather than traipsing to the GP just for that. And for anyone who hasn't had it, yes the arm aches afterwards but the needle was TINY, I couldn't believe it, nothing at all compared to giving blood or any other injection I've had! I barely felt it! I didn't get any bruises, although I expected to, it just felt achey for a couple of days.

@ChampooPapi thank you! :D it was a great picture! But actually that was my private scan, so I'm super lucky, I'll get another for my 20 week on the 3rd August (I'm 17 weeks now!), only 2 and a bit weeks to wait! And my husband won't be able to come to that one, the consultant was pretty certain that wouldn't be changing for Sheffield any time soon...which I found interesting, again so variable across the country!

@danielasummer I haven't been to any shops at all, I don't think you're silly to be anxious- I think it depends on what your local shops are like, and whether you can book apointments or whatever! I'm not sure what I'll do as yet. Since I took the pregnancy test in April I've only been to my corner shop! I'm not buying any big things yet anyway though, not until we move in August, and I'm probably going to try and get most stuff 2nd hand from Facebook groups etc so I'm not particularly worried. The only thing I'll be getting new will probably be the bed, (I'm planning on getting the Schnuggle), and I would like to see it first but...I'm not sure, it depends on which shop I would go in, if I could go to a small shop with an appointment system I wouldn't mind but a big department store like John Lewis...hmmmmm not sure yet!!

kkr168 · 16/07/2020 11:34

@Kj1010 I looked away while waiting for the injection to be done, I was shocked when she said "all done" I didn't feel a thing!

alphabetti · 16/07/2020 11:53

I have my 20 week scan next Friday and then we having a private one the day after so that my partner can get to see baby too. I have a boy and girl already and was thinking of waiting for a surprise but my partner, mum and my oldest all want to find out so I gave in and said we will find out. Everyone apart from one friend guessing boy, I’m feeling more like I did when pregnant with my daughter so thinking girl but don’t mind either way.

My oldest 2 are teenagers now and was never offered any whooping cough vaccination but will have it this time to try n protect baby - even tho i hate needles!! I was just told to contact GP surgery to book after scan.

I haven’t bought much yet. Feels early as I’m not due until 8th Dec but got 3 sleepsuits I thought were cute and 2 bibs that we likes as one says I love my mummy and 1 says I love my daddy. Got a Moses basket from my partners cousin who had a baby last year but wouldn’t settle in it. Been looking at prams online and seen one I really like but prefer to find somewhere to try it first to see if sturdy, folds up easy, fits in boot of car. Will maybe wait till end Aug/Sept tho. My partner is teacher so has summer off so he’s tasked with decorating the spare room asa nursery and then we will order cot and furniture probably from ikea.

peachypetite · 16/07/2020 12:08

@alphabetti I think the whooping cough was reintroduced for pregnant women in 2012 due to a surge of cases.

I have been looking endlessly online for cute neutral born in 2020 sleepsuit, finally found one in stock in small size on next.

Rara88Cas · 16/07/2020 12:27

My whooping cough jab was yesterday after being prompted at 20 week scan x

Kj1010 · 16/07/2020 12:52

@Rara88Cas I'm the same they class me as overweight infact on the obese range only 5ft 1 12 stone I'm feeling flutters etc but no obvs kicks this is my 4th child currently 18 weeks 4 days not really showing yet either coz of the belly fat already there so dont really feel pregnant compared to some ladies not looking forward to the injections to stop clotting that I was told I will have to have daily from 28 weeks till 6 weeks after the birth I'm due 13th december really hoping I have a few days earlier like all my others

ChampooPapi · 16/07/2020 12:52

@alphabettiyes they only introduced it about 8 years ago beca I wasn't offered it either with my first who was born in 2010. There was a surge in whooping cough due to the anti-vax movement gaining more traction especially amoungst the middle classes around that time so to protect newborns who can't have it until later they brought it in

@kj1010 I've not been told about injections, ive been on aspirin since BFP but starting to have problems with heart and breathlessness so having a check up next week so I may be told about them then!

nearlyamummyof2boys · 16/07/2020 13:02

@Rara88Cas I'm in aspirin now through pregnancy and have a gestational diabetes test booked for August as my BMI was just over the limit.

I've just had a look at the SNOO smart cot I thought ooo that looks nice then saw it was £1200! Nearly fell off the sofa lol!

Loving all the scan pics as well ❤️

Kj1010 · 16/07/2020 13:02

@Rara88Cas yes same as me been on aspirin but midwife told me will have to start I see consultant other day didn't say anything to me about it but I'm sure I will have to have em

Rara88Cas · 16/07/2020 13:13

@kj1010 I will look forward to that chat for me then as I'm extremely overweight!

@nearlyamummyof2boys fingers crossed the GD test comes back all clear x

ChampooPapi · 16/07/2020 13:19

@nearlyamummyof2boys yes those snoo cots are quite something, and still like 800 pounds second hand so probably not a goer 😂. That's great they are testing you, I think it's worth having done absolutely. Have you thought of the strep test? Some hospitals do it but others don't, although it's only about 40 pounds to pay for it.

Some people seem to think it's essential and are really up in arms about the NHS not doing it, and others seem less inclined to sing it's praises as I know it's something that comes and goes.

I'll investigate at my next appointment 🧐

I have to have the glucose test to but at 28 weeks

ChampooPapi · 16/07/2020 13:32

@Kj1010 have they also been testing your urine for sugars and keytones? They found both in mine a few weeks back and thought I had gestational diabetes even this early, luckily came back fine after a blood test so not sure what happened there. 28 weeks seems the normal time to test, is it the test where your not supposed to eat for the few hours before hand?

OP posts:
Kj1010 · 16/07/2020 13:40

@ChampooPapi yes they have all good so far has come back fine nothing found and yes cant eat from 10pm night before can only sip water then have to drink something then have a blood test

kkr168 · 16/07/2020 13:43

I was also told to take daily aspirin but was given no explanation as to dosage or how long for, it hasn't been mentioned at any follow up appointments & my brain always goes blank at these things, so I've not brought it up either. The pharmacist told me to take a 75mg tablet daily but online it says 150mg, what dose are you on & how long for?

Rara88Cas · 16/07/2020 14:16

@kkr168 I'm on 150 I think, two dissolvable tablets every morning, ring your GP and see whether it's something you need x

kkr168 · 16/07/2020 14:27

@Rara88Cas sorry I wasn't very clear in my post, the midwife told me to start taking aspirin during my booking in telephone conversation, she didn't mention dosage though.
I then went to the chemist to get the aspirin, they were unsure of dosage & told me to take 1.
I'll contact the midwife today & see what the recommend.

Babyhope98 · 16/07/2020 14:41

@ChampooPapi I was thinking of getting the Strep B test done only £35 and considering the potential risks.. it’s recommend between 35-37 weeks so was thinking of having it then. It’s annoying we do not routinely test for it as they do in other countries, but I know it’s to prevent giving out antibiotics unnecessarily but still.

Kj1010 · 16/07/2020 15:21

@kkr168 I was told by midwife 1 pill aday 75mg only it's to reduce pre eclampsia and I do believe clots the reason I take it 1 age 2 weight/bmi and believe it or not they said coz I've had 3 kids already so I'm in 3 risk groups

chubbyhotchoc · 16/07/2020 15:44

I take 150 mg of aspirin. Previous miscarriages.
@ChampooPapi I paid for the group
B strep test and did it myself last time. It's only a quick swab.

nearlyamummyof2boys · 16/07/2020 16:33

@kkr168 I'm on 150mg for blood clots as well I take 2 75 mg prescribed from the GP. But it's cheap to buy as well - just easier as I'm prescribed iron and vitamin B.

Still not heard from a midwife so frustrating - I'm fed up of chasing people to do their job! when is everyone's scans after the 20 weeks is it not for ages now?
Crazy that I don't have any follow up appointment with a midwife or for a scan - apart from GD test that was booked ages ago, and MRI for baby (cause of the surgery and trauma etc) which isn't till end of August.

chubbyhotchoc · 16/07/2020 16:39

@nearlyamummyof2boys you don't get a scan after twenty weeks in normal circumstances just your midwife appointments. I'm only getting one because of the low lying placenta.

peachypetite · 16/07/2020 16:48

Yep it’s usually just 20 weeks and then only another for growth. I’m in the same boat as @chubbyhotchoc. Next apppintment with midwife is 25 weeks (if first baby), then 28 weeks. I’m not seeing midwife until 28! 25 is phone.
