@Pink15 I’m finding a lot is sold out everywhere online! Really want to have a look in the shops but worried about how busy it will be and I know no one will be social distancing.

HarrietM87 · 02/07/2020 08:37

People buying baby clothes - 0-3 is massive! My son was just under 9lbs when born and didn’t fit into 0-3 for a good few weeks. The exact sizes will vary between shops but most have a weight range on there. From memory 0-3 months is to fit 12lbs+ which no newborn weighs!

There is a size called “up to 1 month” that my son wore from birth. He was estimated to be about 7.5lbs from scans so we had some newborn sizes but he never fitted those 🤣. You can always buy a variety of sizes close to the time and return the ones that don’t fit.

wannabebump · 02/07/2020 09:33

I haven't went crazy with newborn/first size things because who knows how big DS will be when he arrives but when it comes to 0-3, is there such a thing as "the right number" of things?! How many vests and babygros should I buy? I've bought some but I've no idea if it's too much, too little 🙈 not fussy about 'real' clothes for that age bracket... it'll be winter and it'll be onesie central! X

@wannabebump I suppose it depends on how often you plan to do a wash, and also how sicky your baby is. My DS basically never vomited, and would often wear the same babygro for more than 24hrs (he hated being naked so we minimised it in the early days!). But other babies spit up after every feed and need multiple outfit changes through the day. I’d buy a few multipacks to start with and you can always easily get more. You might also get lots as gifts.

Also I found the wrap vests/babygros (with poppers at the side) easier to use at the start - H&M, M&S and John Lewis have some like that.

TangBloodyFastic · 02/07/2020 10:45

@Oatmilk1 I've been exactly the same. Sunday night a few kicks, Monday morning again a few kicks
Nothing since

Assume baby has moved? I have anterior too so maybe moved behind that?

Have you felt butterflies or kicks? I described it as a kind of muscle twitch like you'd get in your eye.

I wouldn't worry, I'm sure all is ok 😊

Pinktruffle · 02/07/2020 12:24

@Oatmilk1 and @TangBloodyFastic I ended up in maternity triage on Tuesday night because of this very thing! Baby was fine, the midwife listened to the heart beat and reassured me that at this stage (18 + 5 at the time) it was perfectly normal to feel some movement and then not feel anything for a few days as baby was so small. We heard a few kicks on the doppler and baby was very active I just haven't been able to feel those movements because of baby's size so try not to worry.

HarrietM87 · 02/07/2020 12:30

Re movement, I remember in my last pregnancy my midwife said not to worry about movements coming/going until post either 24 or 26 weeks. Before then the baby is too small to be sure you can always feed it, especially when you’ve got an anterior placenta. Also, bluntly, before there is a possibility of viability (post 24 weeks) there’s not much anyone can do for you anyway if things go wrong.

HarrietM87 · 02/07/2020 12:30

*feel not feed obviously!

Oatmilk1 · 02/07/2020 12:34

@TangBloodyFastic and @Pinktruffle - thanks for the reassurance.

The movements I had felt were quite distinctive - I wasn't sure I would recognise them but it was like a pop inside me and I could identify the location as well and then there might be a few more over the next 10mins or so.

Oatmilk1 · 02/07/2020 12:36

@HarrietM87

Thats what I have been telling myself! Easy to know something rationally but still tell your bump to please kick you so you know they are OK in there Hmm

I have also been feeding it a lot hahah!

TangBloodyFastic · 02/07/2020 12:51

@Oatmilk1 yep mine was exactly the same. I distinctly felt something and I said to my dh, pretty sure I've just felt baby. Then 2mins later another little twitch 🥰 it went on for about 10mins off and on

@HarrietM87 very hard to grasp that at this stage, what feels like forever for us mums to be, in the eyes of the medics they can't do anything if it goes wrong

Sairafina · 02/07/2020 12:55

I had no movements up until 20+4 and now (22+3) he moves pretty regularly. It seems the 'willing the baby to kick' is a pretty common thought!

On a different note, a few of my friends have seemed to ghost me since knowing my news. Has anyone else experienced this? I understand that I can't drink and get involved in boozy ladies nights anymore but I've found it a little odd

Sweetpea1985 · 02/07/2020 13:15

How many movements should we be feeling in a day? Bump has wiggle sessions about 2 or 3 times a day, not at set times. Is this enough?

Lol stupid phone! Didn't mean to retype but my first post seemed to disappear 😆

HarrietM87 · 02/07/2020 13:25

I know @TangBloodyFastic it’s a horrible thought. But only a few more weeks and we’re over that milestone too.

FlashesOfRage · 02/07/2020 14:34

@Sairafina

Sorry you’ve got ghosted by some friends 💗

I think people who are in very different life stages (regardless of age) to us can fade out when we announce pregnancy. I’ve got a mate who is 39 who has a bit of a pregnancy phobia and all texts from her have dried up. She will actually meet up with me but normal “how’s life?” texts have gone, most probably because factually, she isn’t interested in the answers 🤷‍♀️

I’ve got another good friend who is 21 and she cares but she isn’t very good at it 😆 She just has no experience of pregnant people and doesn’t know what to say and it isn’t on her radar as a thing she’s interested in. So I’ve heard less from her too.

I think it’s best to let them go on the back burner for this season of your life and spend more time with friends who can get “in the zone” for you Xxx

Sairafina · 02/07/2020 14:53

@FlashesOfRage

Thank you for your lovely message! My rational brain knows that you're right and it's probably circumstantial but anxiety brain is having a field day with it! I'm very lucky that have friends who are super supportive and excited for me so will focus my energies on them 💕

Pink15 · 02/07/2020 15:40

@Sweetpea1985 I don't think there's a right or wrong answer with number of movements especially at this stage. Some women don't feel anything until 24 weeks. It's more about finding a pattern but even then it's what's normal for your baby whether that's 24-7 or twice a day! And as Harriet says I know it sounds awful but until 24 weeks there's nothing the medical team could/would do anyway about change in movements.

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/07/2020 16:07

@Sweetpea1985 until 28 weeks there’s not expected to be any pattern or regular amount, so no point trying to count/track at this stage. I notice I’m feeling boy more in the early morning and late evening though.

On newborn clothes and how long they fit - I asked about this in chat (might be worth looking for my thread) and answers were everything from ‘never’ to ‘about 2 months’. Babies really do come in all sizes. I’m going to get some tiny, some newborn, some 1 month and see how I go. I don’t expect baby to be very big, I’m not and babies generally don’t grow bigger than mum can push out (except a few cases) so think we will need the smallest sizes for at least a bit. I think new small baby clothes will start coming into shops in August.

My BF is due a boy 8 weeks ahead of me so will be passing things down too, I’m taking all the hand-me-downs. I think roughly 7 vests and 7 babygrows and a couple of cardigans and a pram suit is about all a winter newborn is likely to need. I think small baby thin

Sweetpea1985 · 02/07/2020 16:11

Good to know not to worry about movements.

I won my pillow battle with DH 🤣😃 he ordered me one while I was trying to take a nap yesterday yey

HarrietM87 · 02/07/2020 17:05

@BuffaloCauliflower that all sounds sensible. Maybe reconsider the pram suit though - they can’t be worn in car seats and are a total faff to get the baby in and out of. You need to be able to strip layers off going in and out of the house as temp changes so don’t want to have to wake baby to wrestle them out of their pramsuit if you’ve come in from a cold walk and they’re asleep in the pram for example. Layers are really your friend so I’d second the cardigans and just use blankets for the first few months. Loads of people I know really rated the tuppence and crumble star wraps for their winter babies - I might get one this time.

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/07/2020 17:13

@HarrietM87 yes good point on the pramsuit, I almost didn’t mention it but DH is desperate for one chunky all in one, so it might not be avoided even if barely used. I love the look of the star wraps for going in the pram/car and they seem to be often recommended

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/07/2020 17:14

Ha ha. I clearly didn’t read your last sentence 😂 yes I want a star wrap!

Pink15 · 02/07/2020 17:15

The pram suits are so cute though 🥰😋
