I don't think we have to shield do we? They are advising to socially distance and be more aware especially in third trimester, but pregnant women are only are told to completely shield if they had a heart condition, was my understanding.

Mysha · 04/08/2020 18:50

@Pink15 that’s right, complete shielding has never been advised but a few women I’ve spoken to seem to be doing shielding regardless. RCOG more talk about minimising social contact as much as possible and being vigilant on social distancing.

AnxiousLady1 · 04/08/2020 18:54

@Pink15 No I don't think we need to fully shield. Like you said, I think the advice is to continue to distance if in third trimester and take any available precautions. So I guess in my case, I would be arguing that I will continue to WFH as I have been doing, as I can continue to do this just as well and it means I can avoid unnecessary risk of London underground / being in a small open plan office in shared workspace building. It's just something that came to mind as my employer has suggested a couple of unnecessary meetings recently and I'm not about to travel to the office just because they feel like getting out of the house! 🙈

MrsR87 · 04/08/2020 19:14

I too was under the impression we didn’t need to shield, just be vigilant with social distancing. I’d always seen myself as being in school in September but wearing a visor. I’ve got a risk assessment meeting on the first day back (no kids) and perhaps there’ll be clearer guidance by then 🤔

Pink15 · 04/08/2020 19:22

@Mysha do you have a link to the up to date rcog guidance please? :) can't find it Thankyou

Mysha · 04/08/2020 19:58

@pink15 I hope this link works -

www.rcog.org.uk/globalassets/documents/guidelines/2020-07-31-occupational-health-advice-for-employers-and-pregnant-women-during-the-covid-19-pandemic.pdf

If you look at the summary of changes you can see the one made on 31/07/20 (much easier than trying to find the change in the whole document!)

FilthyforFirth · 04/08/2020 20:06

I am going to wait until early Nov to properly (due 25th) but I am certain my parents will meet the baby. Even if it means them isolating for two weeks beforehand. I am very close to them and just cannot imagine them not meeting my baby immediately. I will be more cautious with wider family members but just cant see it with my parents regardless of the situation.

In terms of 3rd trimester I plan to carry on as I am now. I wear a mask and socially distance whilst I go out but I dont plan to sheild unless advice changes. I do have asthma so am a bit more cautious anyway. But I really hope we dont have to shield. My HG leaves me bed bound and when I am able to better function I am just desperate to leave the house.

HarrietM87 · 04/08/2020 20:38

I haven’t been shielding (apart from when I was on immune suppressants in the first trimester) but have been really careful with social distancing and will continue for rest of pregnancy. I won’t be going into the office as no need to take risk of public transport when I can do my job perfectly well from home. I guess if there were any especially important meetings I might get a taxi there and back.

Not sure re parents meeting the baby. My mum lives in Ireland and is vulnerable, so I’d be more worried about the risk to her of her flying over. In laws fit and well but key workers so probably quite risky. It’s so worrying that the babies will be born in the midst of cold and flu season.

Wise0wl · 04/08/2020 21:24

Thanks @AnxiousLady1 - your thoughts were really helpful!

On parents seeing baby, both are in the ‘vulnerable’ group and happy to isolate beforehand, but I’m worried about bringing the risk to them as I will have been in hospital! It’s so difficult to tell so planning to think about it closer to the time.

Jujumum83 · 05/08/2020 09:16

Have my GTT test this morning - not looking forward as hate needles! 😭

Really hoping I don't have to give up chocolate 😂

With FTF appointments I have been really lucky and all of mine have been. The benefits of living on an island that's currently (and hopefully will stay) Covid free. The IOM hospital made the decision to allow partners in for scans which means DH has been able to come to all of my appointments which is fab considering this is our first and likely only baby (ivf donor egg).

wannabebump · 05/08/2020 09:42

Are GTT tests done routinely in Scotland does anyone know? 🙃

OP posts:
Jujumum83 · 05/08/2020 09:52

My GTT test is due to family history of diabetes and my BMI being quite a bit over 30! Don't think I would have needed one otherwise. I was told I needed to have it at 24 weeks pregnant during my 12 week scan.

NS34 · 05/08/2020 09:59

@wannabebump I'm in Scotland (NHS Tayside) and should have been getting a GTT due to BMI of 33 but my midwife has said it will now just be a fasting blood test at 28 weeks instead.

I have been working from home since March but my work are really pushing to get everyone back into the office as soon as possible despite the current advice in Scotland for all non essential offices to stay closed until at least September. My Manager is based in Norway though where they seem to be more understanding and is backing my request to work from home for the remainder of my pregnancy as it will allow me to work much closer to my due date if I don't need to travel to work.

MrsR87 · 05/08/2020 10:10

I’ve got this booked in for a couple of weeks, at my 28 week appointment. Not looking forward to not being able to eat, but at least it’s booked nice and early at 7.40am. The only warning sign for me is that my dad and many members of my family have type 2 diabetes.

wannabebump · 05/08/2020 10:10

Thank you - wasn't mentioned at any previous appointments or scans so was unsure (FTM)

Hope you get to continue to work from home

OP posts:
HarrietM87 · 05/08/2020 10:30

I haven’t had a single face to face appointment yet and I’m 27 weeks! I have my first one this weekend. It’s at home as I’ve opted for a home birth which will be nice.

Bluebell2020 · 05/08/2020 10:52

I work in the NHS and usually do a patient facing roll which involves aerosol generating procedures.

My trusts current rules are to be non clinical before 28 weeks if the risk assessment doesn't support clinical work and then to work from home regardless from 28 weeks.

4 more weeks until I can work from home despite the fact that everything I'm currently doing could be done from home anyway! They're literally keeping me here until I turn 28 weeks though!

In terms of shielding I've not been shielding. Just being sensible with face masks etc. My parents will definitely be meeting my baby. Obviously they'll make sure they wash their hands and what not but I couldn't imagine not having them visit at the start!

Pushingnic · 05/08/2020 12:34

Has anybody got their prams or travel systems yet? Mine came today after getting a code for £115 off the one I wanted so just ordered it! And now it’s here I’m slightly worried it’s unlucky to have it in the house!! I really want to put it up to see what it’s like but a bit scared to do so! I know realistically buying a pram isn’t going to make anything go wrong but then again I’m apprehensive for some reason!! I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks before this and I’m just scared of falling in love with things then if anything goes wrong will be so much harder as I’ve got loads of baby stuff to get rid off etc!

BG1234 · 05/08/2020 12:48

I’m also 25 weeks tomorrow and have another phone appointment with midwife. I haven’t seen anyone face to face and wonder when I will. I had one blood/urine/weighing in at 12 weeks and nothing since, my midwife said the hospital made a mistake as they should have taken my bloods at the 20 week scan (she told me this when I rang to tell her I’d fainted). I didn’t mind not seeing anyone at the beginning but as I get closer and hear the different experiences of others it does make me feel a tad unsupported as a ftm.

I would raise this as a concern during your phone appointment. I was warned that there would be more phone contact that usual but it hadn’t been the case at all and other than my 12 week one which was half phone and half in person, all of my appointments have been face to face.
Pink15 · 05/08/2020 16:55

I think the 25 week appointment is for first time mums only so although may be reassuring isn't essential. They don't start measuring bump until 28. I would definitely doubt any appointments after 28 weeks that were by phone as they need to be measuring you!

MrsR87 · 05/08/2020 17:25

That makes sense. I’m a first time mum, although they measure my bump last week at 25 weeks. 😍

wannabebump · 05/08/2020 17:30

@Pushingnic we've got our pram but I had it delivered to my parents house as I didn't want it in my house! I'm not in to old wives tales but this one got me! I have since built it and checked it at theirs though. Everything else is at my house though!x

OP posts:
Pinktruffle · 05/08/2020 17:39

I've ordered mine @Pushingnic, the store are holding on to it till I want it delivered. That isn't because I'm superstitious, it's because we have limited storage space at home. Once its delivered, it'll be living in the boot of the car I think.

HarrietM87 · 05/08/2020 18:13

I was mega superstitious with my first baby and didn’t buy anything until 30 weeks plus (had had 3 mcs so was understandable I think). Anyway I then realised that there was an 8 week delivery time on the pram so do check that if you want to hold off! Was fine in the end as baby v overdue anyway!
