👋 Heyyyy night crew!

I’m going to sleep at about 3am at the mo and getting up at 8-9.

Feeling like my eyes are closing and desperate for a nap various times in the day but my acid reflux is too bad to lie down till about 1:30am 🤦‍♀️

Sweetpea1985 · 04/08/2020 01:09

I'm having to be careful with my fidgeting as well as I've got what I can only assume is a pinched nerve in my shoulder which I've had for a couple of weeks now.
I had insomnia before pregnancy anyway but now I cant take anything for it and I'm just getting grumpier every day. Poor hubby cant wait for this pregnancy to be over lol

Sweetpea1985 · 04/08/2020 01:12

@FlashesOfRage omg the eyes! Or as I now refer to them, the burning holes in my head 😂😂
Constant burning apart from when they are closed

Sweetpea1985 · 04/08/2020 01:17

I think tonight might be worse because we move tomorrow to a bigger place which we so needed. But I've not been able to help so much with getting the move sorted due to bump, which has wound me up as well m, I'm very much a get stuck in kind of girl and I cant right now 🙄

Pinktruffle · 04/08/2020 01:35

Not being able to do what you would normally is frustrating. We are doing bits around the house that under normal circumstances, I would have done in a day or two but now progress is super slow (DH has to work, I'm on half term). I'm now having to stop because the paint is making me wheezy :(

I'm getting up around 8.30 and I'm tired during the day, some days I manage a nap but not everyday..... I guess this is training for when baby arrives. DH will sleep through anything it seems.

FudgeFlies · 04/08/2020 03:26

Also “team can’t sleep” over here! Constant battle to stay or get back asleep once awake. And if I can sleep, I’m up at the crack of dawn!

littlegem84 · 04/08/2020 05:19

I'm with you gals - I'm averaging 3-4 hours of sleep a night and it is slowly killing me!

I have found that fully getting out of bed, having a glass of milk and a snack and putting something easy to watch on/ reading helps to reset if you've not already tried x

Wigglebum87 · 04/08/2020 05:23

Not just me then! I manage to get to sleep OK, then 3am hits and it's party time on my bladder and I'm wide awake and can't get comfy enough to fall back asleep!

Also got my diabetes test this morning so awake worrying about that Hmm

Whatinthename20 · 04/08/2020 08:21

@Wigglebum87 is that a blood test now as opposed to the drink they used to give you?

Wigglebum87 · 04/08/2020 09:36

@Whatinthename20 not sure yet, just had an emotional breakdown trying to find a car parking space so missed my appointment slot I think! Hmm

Wigglebum87 · 04/08/2020 10:03

@Whatinthename20 so, not sure if it varies by trust, but I've just had a blood test and a sugary drink, then ill get called in 2 hours for another blood test. I'm so hungry!

Wise0wl · 04/08/2020 12:42

@Wigglebum87 same on the 3am wake up (4am in my case!) and hope the test went well.

A bit of a rant from me today, I’ve been really emotional and in tears several times over the last week which isn’t like me.

I’ve just had a call to say my 25 week appointment (tomorrow) has been moved to be by phone. I’ve not seen a midwife since my 12 week scan, not had my BP/urine tested since then either. I’m feeling really fed up and a bit neglected. Whilst I totally understand the need to protect the NHS during the height of the pandemic, it isn’t clear why the changes are still in place.

Has anyone else experienced similar?

Wigglebum87 · 04/08/2020 12:46

@Wise0wl it went OK thank you, I am now eating everything in sight!

I'm not sure whether its my trust or that I'm a FTM, but all appointments, except my booking appointment, have been face to face, and I've been told to make another one for 28 weeks x

Wise0wl · 04/08/2020 13:19

@wrigglebum glad to hear it!

FTM here too, which is partly why I feel a bit adrift 😕 I’ve got a 28 week appt booked in so hope that might be in person!

wannabebump · 04/08/2020 13:22

@Wise0wl my trust have all been face to face appointments as well - I seen a midwife at 8 weeks, had scan at 12, midwife at 16, scan at 20, midwife at 22 and next midwife is when I'll be 28 weeks. They have been really sloppy with paperwork though and I've had to chase a few things up on several occasions. There's not really been any consistency at the appointments either with what I'm being told sometimes x

@WiseOwl I'd a similar wobble when an 18 week consultant appointment was moved 2 hours beforehand to a telephone call. It was incredibly frustrating and I had a good cry that day. As others have said, it varies between different trusts. When I called my MW after the 18 week was cancelled, and explained I'd not had urine or blood pressure checked at 16 weeks, she brought a 24 week app forward by a week and also changed it to face to face (seemingly it should have been on phone but I reckon she sensed my anxiety as I wanted heartbeat checked). When I had this appointment my 28 week was booked in (face to face), but they also gave me a blood pressure machine and a box of strips to test my urine at home. They are doing this at my trust to eliminate the need for a couple of the face to face appointments after I pass the 30 week mark. It does feel really frustrating at times, particularly when you see the variance between different hospitals. Some will allow partners to scans and others still won't. Some measure weight and bump and others don't, but offer a scan at 36 weeks. As another FTM I find it a little daunting, but am trying to remind myself that even in the pandemic, maternity care is still better than what my mother's generation were offered, or even what's offered back home in Ireland (from speaking to friends who have had babies).

Mysha · 04/08/2020 15:36

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone else has started thinking about what you’ll do when baby is here with visitors/grandparents and holding baby? I know it’s a way off yet but it doesn’t seem like Covid is going anywhere fast and I can already sense the disagreements about whatever we choose to do coming!

And on a similar note - how seriously is everyone taking the risk as we approach third trimester? Is anyone effectively going to be shielding?

wannabebump · 04/08/2020 16:49

@Mysha Im not going to make any decisions on the visitors thing probably until 4/6 before I'm due, whilst I know covid isn't going anywhere fast, things can change so much between now and then and I don't want to get my hopes up or dash the hopes of family just yet.

As for me and being 3rd trimester/shielding, I've still got to go and get the shopping once a week/fortnight etc, but I'm masked everywhere I go, Ive probably 'consumed' more alcohol through hand sanitiser since March than I have in the last few years put together! Everything I buy is either quarantined in a safe place for a few days before opening or is bleached/sprayed, I haven't relaxed that at home since March. I'm quite strict on social distancing everywhere I go and for anyone who has visited. I'm in Scotland so our cases were lower but little pockets are starting to reappear so we're not letting our guard slip.

I agree about will wait until nearer the time to decide as things are changing all the time like with the recent lockdowns in Blackburn etc have changed rules literally overnight!

AnxiousLady1 · 04/08/2020 17:42

Are we still expected to shield from 28 weeks? I had a look around online and guidance on Tommys website from 7 days ago seems to indicate this is still the case. Not that I mind. Just wanted to be clear should I be asked to come into the office! Have been working from home since March but some are starting to return following Boris latest announcements (insert eye roll here).

Mysha · 04/08/2020 18:16

@AnxiousLady1 the RCOG updated their guidance a couple of days ago to basically say that pregnant women are exempt from whatever the govt decides on shielding groups. The RCOG maintain the same guidance for pregnant women, with particular attention to the higher risk in third trimester. I’m in a patient-facing NHS role and I’ll be sent to work from home once I reach 28 weeks.

I think it’s also because of my job that I’ve been more blasé with the pregnancy advice (just because I can’t socially distance at work at all!), so it’s good to know that other people are doing it and I think I will take it seriously in third trimester.

Thanks for the replies about newborn plans. I know both our families aren’t taking Covid particularly seriously, so I do need to start putting some hints out there that we will take it seriously with a newborn - purely to avoid a family meltdown when I’m imminently due or with a tiny newborn!

Addler · 04/08/2020 18:21

God my feet are aching. All I've done today is walk to the supermarket and then to the GP for my whooping cough vaccine and I feel like I've done a 12 hour shift standing up. My sister has booked me a pregnancy massage for my birthday next week which really can't come soon enough now!

MrsR87 · 04/08/2020 18:32

Interesting chat about the third trimester shielding. The guidelines for schools are basically because the risks are mitigated (they are not at all) shielding staff should be in school from September. Feeling quite anxious about it...to be honest it would usually bother me in the slightest but with baby I feel so differently.

AnxiousLady1 · 04/08/2020 18:32

@Mysha thanks for this. I'll go by what RCOG are saying, as this was what Tommys site was also referencing. Good to know. I certainly don't have any great desire to get on a London tube anyway!

AnxiousLady1 · 04/08/2020 18:38

@MrsR87 sounds a little like the health of potentially vulnerable teachers is being traded in to ensure schools are back up and running. I felt a little like this last week when the message suddenly changed from working from home and keep distancing where you can, to saying everyone can come back to work and get on public transport again. It was like peoples health was being traded in to get economy (particularly in City of London) back on track. Can you discuss with your employers? As RCOG guidance is to continue distancing where possible.
