Does anyone else have days where all they eat and drink is rubbish? Hmm

Sweetpea1985 · 22/07/2020 17:01

Having turmoil it's my wedding anniversary today and am considering having 1 small glass of wine with dinner, which would be my ONLY DRINK in the whole of my pregnancy as I wouldn't intend on having any more until after baby.
Any experience on this? And please refrain from flat out judgement

OurLittlePumpkin1991 · 22/07/2020 17:06

@Sweetpea1985
My auntie drank red wine through her pregnancy. So did my boss who went through ivf twice. She had prosecco and white wine.
When I say drank, they had the odd tiny glass with dinner. All kids healthy and beautiful.

The midwifes recommend not drinking at all as there is no conclusive study that proves it's totally harmless.
I think one small glass would be OK but it's completely down to each individual!x

HarrietM87 · 22/07/2020 17:15

It’s fine, do it if you want to! I had a few glasses of Prosecco in my first pregnancy at various special occasions. The book Expecting Better has lots of good info on this if you’re interested in more detail. Would recommend it to everyone on the thread!

HarrietM87 · 22/07/2020 17:16

Just to clarify, I had a few in total, not a few on each occasion 🤣

Sweetpea1985 · 22/07/2020 17:24

@HarrietM87 lol figured that's what you meant
DH is being reassuring saying it's literally only 1 in 9 months you'll be fine, but I'm torn I really want a glass but not if it will cause serious harm.
Did you find anyone judging you when you did have a drink, and how did you deal with it if they did so?

HarrietM87 · 22/07/2020 17:28

It definitely won’t cause serious harm! The risks of alcohol are highest in the first trimester when the baby is developing all its major systems, so I didn’t drink then. By this stage a single glass really isn’t going to affect them.

I have no idea if anyone was judging me - no one said anything but if they had I wouldn’t have cared. I have a lot of European friends and the guidance is different there so expectations are completely different. My friend from Portugal for example had a glass of wine each night with dinner.

Sweetpea1985 · 22/07/2020 17:37

@HarrietM87 good thoughts, I dont know why I'm stressing so much, 1 glass in 9 months isn't too bad I guess 🤷‍♀️

Oatmilk1 · 22/07/2020 18:36

I have a small glass most weekends... and regularly taste my husbands (small sip or spit).

Pour yourself a glass. Drink slowly. If you don't enjoy it/can't relax, don't drink it.

wannabebump · 22/07/2020 19:25

@Sweetpea1985 I totally agree what everyone else has put re having your small glass... enjoy it! And happy anniversary! Xx

@Sweetpea1985 (trained dietitian here) it will not cause any harm to have one small glass of wine. The rules were actually only recently changed to no alcohol at all, previously it was recommended to restrict alcohol intake to 1-2 units of alcohol 1-2 times a week. The reason they changed the rules is because it's morally dubious, and therefore not possible, to do any scientific studies into what exact level of drinking would cause harm. Because there is an absence of scientific evidence the advice had decided to fall on the side of extreme caution and state that no alcohol is advised. However, previous advice of 1-2 units of alcohol 1-2 X a week did not result in any increase of babies born with foetal alcohol syndrome and so is likely absolutely fine. I will freely admit that I drank (within the old guidelines) for my first child (who is absolutely fine and healthy), and I'm continuing to do so now during my second pregnancy. It is down to you the level you are happy with, but I can tell you from the science that 1 glass of 1 unit (eg approx 125ml of a 11% white wine) will do no harm whatsoever. Hope that helps!

Sweetpea1985 · 22/07/2020 22:11

Thank you ladies, I had my small glass and it was lovely, only another 4 months until I get another lol

Pink15 · 22/07/2020 22:22

Does anyone have any advice on foam vs spring mattresses for a cot/cot bed? Thanks :)

FlashesOfRage · 23/07/2020 12:35

Got a question about mucus, probably one for those who have been pregnant before 👌🤩 TMI sorry x

Last week I was as found with 15mm of functional cervical length (+8mm funnelling of membranes). So I’m high risk for PPROM and premature labour. I’ve been given progesterone and will be monitored again on the 29th. I got told to call them with absolutely any changes...

Each time I’ve gone for a bowel movement since, I have noticed a small amount of rubbery/jellylike/snot like mucus gets pushed out of my vagina. 😬😆 SOZ

I’m under the impression that this is essentially a small piece of mucus plug. (And I did have this a few times back at 9-12 weeks actually) It isn’t anything like my usual pregnancy discharge at all (lotiony, milky stuff)

Is this ok? Should I be worried that this means my cervix opening more is imminent?

I called my antenatal clinic and described it fully. The midwife insisted it was just totally normal discharge so long as it had no smell or blood in it 🤷‍♀️

Thanks! Xxx

HarrietM87 · 23/07/2020 13:12

Oh no Flashes that’s worrying - sorry you had to go through this.

I’ve been having lots of discharge of varying consistencies (sorry!) including what you describe, and I had assumed it was normal. Had it last time too. Can’t say whether it’s similar to mucus plug as I never saw mine last time (no idea when I lost it).

But if I were you I wouldn’t take any chances at all. If you’re not happy then maybe ask to go in and get checked again? On the plus side it’s great they’ve picked this up - hopefully will be able to keep baby in there are long as possible.

isthisoveryet · 23/07/2020 13:28

@FlashesOfRage that sounds worrying for you. Are you managing to rest plenty?

Discharge can vary lots so I wouldn’t worry too much about consistency. The mucus plug, if it is part of it coming away, can regenerate itself. I think all you can do is rest plenty and wait for your next review, but I know that must seem like a lifetime away. How many weeks will you be on the 29th?

Addler · 23/07/2020 13:40

@FlashesOfRage I've been having lots of similar sounding discharge too, sometimes it's milky and thin and other times it's like glue that's been left to dry and is really thick and tacky.

FilthyforFirth · 23/07/2020 17:55

Evening all. Does anyone have a 28 week scan? I have just recieved a load of appts through the post and one was a consultant appt and a scan. I'm not complaining obviously! But I'm just wondering why?! There is no explanation. I'm wondering if it's because I wont be having a GTT so they want to check the size of baby? I alrready have a 36 week one booked in to check baby isn't breach so I was a bit puzzled to get this today and wondered if anyone else had one!

Addler · 23/07/2020 17:59

@FilthyforFirth I've got one booked, but that's because of my BMI as it will be harder to track baby's growth from my bump. Will be having a 36 week one too and possibly 32 weeks depending on if they're concerned.

FilthyforFirth · 23/07/2020 18:03

Ah ok, maybe that's it. Thanks @addler. My BMI is too high at 32 so maybe that's why. I am overweight, no hiding from that, but also short. They havent had any problems so far but it might just be an automatic thing. Like I say, not complaining at another chance to see baby!

LozEliza · 23/07/2020 20:52

@FlashesOfRage I've had the rubbery, jelly, snot like discharge when wiping sometimes as well. I would say it's normal.

Addler · 23/07/2020 20:55

Today I've had a problem swallowing when I eat or drink. It feels a bit like my throat is right or food is getting stuck, it lasts a bit after I've eaten or drank but other than that there's no pain or itchiness or anything.

It doesn't even hurt when I swallow food, it just feels difficult.

I do have oral allergy syndrome which causes similar feelings, but only when I eat certain raw fruits. This has the same tightness/stuffiness feeling but normally with the allergies I get itchiness as well.

Anyone had anything similar? Not sure if it's pregnancy related or not! Not heartburn or anything.

Bluebell2020 · 24/07/2020 10:41

@Wigglebum87 Sorry a bit late to reply to your comment but yes... every single day for me 🙈 Trying to limit myself to only 2 chocolate bars per day... not happening!!!!!

Wigglebum87 · 24/07/2020 11:01

@Bluebell2020 ha its so difficult, I'm not back in work so I have no routine as such, so squeezing in my 5 a day is hard! I dont normally have a sweet tooth either but I seem to have developed one!

Sweetpea1985 · 24/07/2020 11:09

At how many weeks should we think about packing our hospital bag??
