@NatalieH2220 I've been buying the essentials and getting quite excited. Still need the steriliser, breast pump and baby bath as big things. The ones I want are on offer atm in Tesco but I'm hoping they go down at Boots because I can get a better deal there except the bath, thats just convincing DP we need one with a little shelf to help support the baby.

Missworry92 · 18/07/2020 09:30

Any of you ladies started getting leg cramps at night? I've had it 3 times now and I literally jump out of bed it's that bad! Anyone has any tips? 😂

Fouryearslater · 18/07/2020 10:41

@Missworry92 YES! I suffered horrendously last time. My top tip? When you feel it starting, do NOT point your toe! Your whole being will tell you to point your toe, but don’t! Do the opposite, lift your toe up. It stops the cramp.

Missworry92 · 18/07/2020 10:53

@Fouryearslater thank you! I will definitely try that next time 😊 it hurts sooo bad 😭

MrsR87 · 18/07/2020 11:52

Everyone is so organised! I haven’t bought anything yet other than some muslin cloths and a sleeping bag !

FilthyforFirth · 18/07/2020 12:06

Yeah I have only got a few cute clothes but no big ticket items yet. This is my 2nd so resuing pram, nursery furniture! New car is top of my list and then car seat.

I had an automatic 36 week scan in my first pregnancy. Been told I will have one this time round but because DS was breach last time and they want to check position. Am hoping no section this time round as if DH cant stay in hospital with me I want to be discharged ASAP.

I highly recommend the Shnuggle baby bath, it's so convenient and we used it until number 1 was around 14 months as she was still small enough. www.amazon.co.uk/Shnuggle-Baby-Bath-White-backrest/dp/B084PP9W5F?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

HarrietM87 · 18/07/2020 13:21

Agree re shnuggle bath - it is so good. The little shelf thing is pretty much essential with a wriggly newborn - makes it so much less stressful! We got ours for £4 on eBay.

@MissingMo are you sure you need a steriliser and a breast pump? Only asking because I breastfed and I did buy an electric pump, but found I couldn’t get much by pumping so it was a waste of money. Doing it again I’d prob get a cheap manual one and see if it worked out before investing in an expensive one. And then if you are mainly bf you don’t need an expensive steriliser - I guess maybe if doing a lot of pumping but I and most friends got by with microwave bags. If ff I guess a steriliser would be much more useful. I suppose I’d say for both those purchases worth waiting until the baby is here and then seeing if you really need them?

MissingMo · 18/07/2020 14:05

@Fredthespider that looks perfect for what I'm looking for, even has a drainage hole. Thank you.

@HarrietM87 I am not sure but I am going based on previous experience and best case scenario. Last time I had a manual pump which worked alright but I'm hoping the electric one will be more effective. I also stopped breastfeeding at about 4 months as my supply was dwindling and to be honest I was struggling. I'm hoping if I get the electric pump and express more and more efficiently then ill be able to offer breastmilk for longer and also less pressure on me as partner can help feed so emotionally ill feel a bit better. Seems silly to hope for a best case scenario as often life and babies don't work that way and last time I only had the baby, now ill have a 3 year old and newborn. I did say to DP about Milton tablets instead of an electrical steriliser but he wasn't keen, will look into microwave bags as never heard of them before. Thanks for the advice Smile

Addler · 18/07/2020 14:30

@MissingMo I may not be able to breastfeed so planning on using the MAM self sterilising bottles if needed, they're also really good for refluxy babies

Pink15 · 18/07/2020 14:44

What do you mean by "shelf" in the bath? Is there one in that snuggle bath?

I'm planning on getting an electric pump but was gonna wait until nearer the time as not sure what the guarantee was like on them? If only a year may be best waiting a few more months

wannabebump · 18/07/2020 15:03

@MissingMo I've went for the milton steriliser kit, cold water steriliser and using their tablets or bleach. Reviews on it are great and I like that it doesn't break the seal on everything if you only want one thing out.

I am so emotional today. My DH's heart is in the right place but not being "allowed" to do anything is really dragging me down today 😥

MissingMo · 18/07/2020 15:20

@Addler Thank you, ill look into Mam bottles.

@Pink15 Just something to help support as it will be more likely to bathe the baby one to one as we will have DD to look after as well as DP may be at work when emergency baths are needed!

@wannabebump I think the Milton set up could definitely work for us, will look into the kit so thank you. I'm sorry you aren't having a great day emotionally, even if something is done with love it still can be difficult to deal with.

HarrietM87 · 18/07/2020 16:41

Ah I see @MissingMo - didn’t realise you were a seasoned pro! Just often people see lists of baby kit and think they need all of it, but actually some really depends on your circumstances. Sounds like you have a good plan! I didn’t get pumping to work at all even with a good electric pump. Going to try again this time 🤞🏻

FudgeFlies · 19/07/2020 07:43

@Redbellblue hey! Yes very frustrating. I’m not seeing a consultant until 30+ weeks so I really do hope I see a midwife before that! Just for the reassurance.

I was worried about The anterior placenta and not being able to feel her move but I’ve been surprised to feel her move this much!

I really do hope there isn’t a second wave for us all because I feel like we’ve been left to our own devices enough! My friend (at a different hospital) was even sent a measuring tape to measure her own fundal height! I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that at all!

MissingMo · 19/07/2020 17:57

@HarrietM87 I wouldn't say seasoned Grin but yes my second time around. Hoping for the best, trying to get excited with all the craziness of the times.

Wise0wl · 19/07/2020 22:15

Hi all just checking in and place marking - I’ve been offline for a week or so and couldn’t find this thread! Glad to see that everyone is doing ok (notwithstanding same old lack of seeing midwives and frustrating MILs!)

Addler · 19/07/2020 22:46

It's our anniversary today and DP booked my favourite restaurant as a surprise. Halfway through the meal I thought I could feel the beat of the music through the ground but then realised it was my pulse, the lower halves of my feet were just throbbing with my heartbeat!

We left the restaurant and I had to sit down on a bench and make DP go and fetch the car, I took my shoes off and my feet had swollen twice their size, huge raw cuts on my heels and the front had cut in to the tops of my feet as well. I've got cankles Sad

I didn't think this would happen this early?!

Missworry92 · 20/07/2020 09:16

@Addler I think it can happen at any point in pregnancy 😊 apparently rising your feet should always help which is obviously difficult when you're out and about but at home try having them up more, hope that helps.

HarrietM87 · 20/07/2020 09:36

Does anyone else use the Ovia app? There’s a weekly video and the 24 week one said swelling often appears around this time 😬. Haven’t had it yet myself but like MissWorry says, they recommend putting your feet up! (Any excuse!)

FlashesOfRage · 20/07/2020 11:53

@Addler If it literally came on during that evening then I think you should get checked out xx

While swelling slowly and later on is totally normal, sudden swelling now could be a clue to something more.

Are you able to check your blood pressure at home?

Hope your feet went back to normal overnight and the cuts don’t hurt too bad! X

FlashesOfRage · 20/07/2020 11:53

P.s: Super happy anniversary too!!! ❤️

Jhampson01 · 20/07/2020 17:39

Random question...have any of you heard not to put hats on newborns and what are your thoughts? My MIL insists that I will need loads in my hospital bag as baby will need to wear them immediately. I have read in the positive birth book that they are not at all necessary especially as it can get in the way skin to skin etc. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Jhampson01 · 20/07/2020 17:41

@HarrietM87 I use the Ovia app. I do love the weird animals for size comparison and that we are carrying little puffins right now 🙂

Addler · 20/07/2020 18:35

@FlashesOfRage thank you! My feet were back to normal by this morning thank god, I have to go to my GP this week for my whooping cough vaccine so will get my BP checked again, it was checked last week and was 110/60 so I hope it's just that I wore slightly too tight shoes?!
