Time to think outside the box I think!

On a slightly different note, has anyone's DH/other half been able to feel baby yet? X

@wannabebump only once has my DH felt little one kick. It took his breath away and he ended up with his head in his hands crying 😂

Need to rant! My horrid MIL (horrid for several reasons spanning the past 6 years which I can't even go into right now) has picked apart our choice in bedside cribs and also the fact I don't want to be in a hospital environment to give birth if I can avoid it. I'm fed up of her feeling as though she has an input in what we do or not. She has treated my DH and his brother horrendously and so I want to protect my baby from her at all costs. She is malicious and cold. Everytime she sends an email with a comment or I hear her on the phone making remarks about my choices it makes my blood boil! DH still tries to maintain relationship at arms length! Anyway rant over 😂

HarrietM87 · 16/07/2020 11:08

Yes DH has been able to feel the baby moving for a while. It’s also very visible on the outside now! Seems to be a lot more active than my DS was.

@OurLittlePumpkin1991 that’s horrible. It’s none of her business - she had her time, now it’s yours. It’s really up to your DH to take a stand.

My in laws are lovely but can be a little over bearing too. Before I had DS they kitted out a whole nursery in their house including pram, cot, nursery furniture, toys, they filled the drawers with girls clothes (we didn’t know what we were having - their preference was very clear!). They spent much more than we did. It was kind of awkward as I had no intention of DS ever staying there without me. We ended up just ignoring it - like when we came to stay we brought our own travel cot so DS could be in the room with us (their cot was too big to fit) and hardly any of it was used. SIL is pregnant now so hopefully she will get some use out of it now!

Addler · 16/07/2020 12:30

Finally had my 20 week scan today. Is that all us done now?

Baby had its head tucked right down and over my bladder so couldn't get a look at the face so have to go back next week. I'm happy to have another look then anyway!

@OurLittlePumpkin1991 your DH sounds so sweet!

MillieFTM · 16/07/2020 12:37

I don't know if it's a in law thing, my MIL initially seemed excited for us, but since telling her she hasn't once asked how I or baby am, didn't want to know gender and told us she would be very upset if we by accident let it slip. Husband spent an hour on the phone last night to them, and they didn't ask after me at all. Find it very strange!
We've been together since school, so I know them like my own family but am just amazed at how uninterested they are! I know I'm not the first person in the world to have a baby but it will be their first grandchild so a bit confused!

Pink15 · 16/07/2020 13:32

Sorry to hear about all these MIL! There is really no need... I hope they soften when the babies arrive!

Also another thing that annoys me about maternity clothes ... has anyone else noticed on the model online they like the top but then you look and they're actually modelling the trousers and then can't find the top anywhere else on the website! I think it's because the tops aren't maternity which is a bit sneaky! I don't like the ruched side of the tops but it seems that's most of maternity range... but they're non ruched on the models Angry

MrsR87 · 16/07/2020 13:57

Oh no. Hugs to all the people with horrible mother in laws! I’m having a boy...so I hope I don’t become one in many years to come! 😆

I’ve got a good role model though, I love my mother in law. She’s so supportive and lovely. She’s currently knitting practically a whole wardrobe and blankets from beautiful soft baby wool and we get a video call around once a week so she can show us what she’s doing and checking we are happy with it! How could I not be? It’s beautiful stuff and it’s free! She also has advice but only gives it if we ask, which I love as I am FTM and don’t have a clue.

I wonder if all the horrible ones use to moan about their MIL when they were younger! 🤷🏻‍♀️

mamayoucefka · 16/07/2020 14:13

Just had my 20 weeks scan at 20+6. Baby girl is looking good and happy. I also got some lovely pictures. I was however very disappointed to find out that I wouldnt be able to see my midwife(I was originally told I would) until I am 25 weeks. Apparently they have changed rules once again due to covid...I havent seen her in 2 months and there are quite a few things I wanted to discuss. I also asked if they could at least give me my matb1 certificate so that I can give it to my employer (who is known for being a pain so I wanted to have it done and over with) but they refused as midwife has to examine me first...(was the scan I just had not enough?🙄).

On a good note, I got booked in for a 36weeks scan- apparently everyone gets one now(?) I look forward to seeing baby girl again even though it's still a long time ;)

MoreGinPlease2020 · 17/07/2020 08:14

I've been looking at things to buy and keep coming back to the groeggs. Our plan is to put the baby into a next2me type crib in our room for the first 6 months - are groeggs (or something similar) necessary in that case or will the light be too annoying for us trying to sleep?

Jellycat2020 · 17/07/2020 08:42

@wannabebump yes! My husband has felt her a few times but normally when he puts his hand on her, she goes back to sleep! 😂 Let's hope that lasts....

@mamayoucefka I didn't know about a 36 week scan? I've had my 20 week one (I'm nearly 23 weeks now) then we had a private scan so husband could see her too 🤗 and we'll probably have another private scan around 30 weeks.

Maternity wear is so frustrating! I'm 5'11" and normally a 10-12 but really struggling to find clothes, especially trousers, online that actually fit!

wannabebump · 17/07/2020 09:28

@MoreGinPlease2020 the groegg light has I think 3 settings for brightness or off, so u can have it with just the temp showing. It's a button on the bottom to change the brightness. We got one :) x

Didn't know about a 36 week scan available to all on the NHS! I only know people have scans that late if something needs checking out or monitoring. Maybe I should ask my midwife as I'd love one!

Pinktruffle · 17/07/2020 10:08

A quick question for those of you who already have children, do I need a changing bag or will a roomy handbag do?

HarrietM87 · 17/07/2020 10:18

I’m not sure that it’s available to all on the NHS. My hospital has been doing it for years as standard as part of a study, and in recent years others have been adding it, but not everywhere. And my hospital then scrapped it due to covid and it hasn’t been reintroduced yet. Definitely worth checking though!

@Pinktruffle we didn’t use a “changing bag” for DS - there’s no magic to it, you just need to carry around some nappy stuff, clothes, I guess formula if you ff. I used a backpack because I used the sling a lot and my usual
shoulder bag slipped off and got annoying.

You can get clips to attach any bag to a pram. We had this for changing which was great as it fitted inside the backpack or we could strap it to pram as a stand-alone bag. Holds nappies and wipes and is a changing mat:

HarrietM87 · 17/07/2020 10:18

Sorry - the first bit of my previous post was talking about the 35/36 week scan!

AnxiousLady1 · 17/07/2020 10:48

My MW told me they do a 36 week scan as my hospital stopped measuring bump size. They did a study last year and said they felt it was more reliable to just do a growth scan at 36 weeks. But I think it depends on hospital as my friend is pregnant also, in another part of country, and said her hospital does bump measuring and doesn't do 36 week scan.

OurLittlePumpkin1991 · 17/07/2020 10:50

@harrietM87 so funny you mention the skip hop changing mat - my hubby ordered it (his first baby purchase) without me even suggesting it! I work with kids and I lnow how redundant a full on changing bag can become - just a few nappy essentials will do!

Pinktruffle · 17/07/2020 10:52

Fantastic, thanks for the advise @HarrietM87

HarrietM87 · 17/07/2020 11:03

Yes I love that skip hop one! You can get other similar ones but that one was perfect for us. We used reusable wipes so the little wipe case it comes with was handy for that.

The other thing to think about is whether your partner is ever going to have the baby. You don’t want to have to faff around transferring all the stuff from your nice feminine changing bag into something else for DH if they’re going to take the baby out for an hour or two. We had a nice neutral backpack that DH was happy to share. Obvs if your DH doesn’t mind carrying a handbag it’s not a problem!

Oatmilk1 · 17/07/2020 11:46

Ooh I like that skip hop thingy! On the list...

I am only getting a 36 week scan because of low lying placenta.

MoreGinPlease2020 · 17/07/2020 14:30

Thanks @wannabebump !

NatalieH2220 · 18/07/2020 06:58

We have 36 growth scan too but think they're dependent on area as know some others who don't get them that don't live nearby. Definitely worth checking. Mines the day before I finish work for maternity leave so looking forward To that already.

How's everyone else getting on with buying things? I feel like we've bought a lot of what we need and I'm not even 22 weeks yet. Feeling a bit keen!

FudgeFlies · 18/07/2020 07:09

Hi all been a bit quiet on here recently but also been feeling movements everyday now (even with an anterior placenta) which is reassuring!

I’ve also been booked in for a 32? (Can’t remember which week exactly) week growth scan but because of a low Papp result - was meant to have 3 extra scans after 20 weeks but they’ve been cancelled apart from one due to covid.

Still haven’t seen a midwife yet and my 25 week appointment next week is over the phone. Will be asking when I’ll be actually seeing someone. Frustrating x

Redbellblue · 18/07/2020 08:30

@FudgeFlies hey, just wanted to reply as your experience sounds similar to mine. I have low papp and anterior placenta. I'm feeling lots of movement too which is very reassuring.

I'm 22 weeks, my 24 week scan got cancelled but I have a 25 week over the phone appointment with the midwife, I see a consultant at 28 weeks and then my midwife in person at 30 weeks. It's frustrating that the extra scans have been cancelled due to covid and not seeing anyone face to face doesn't help either, I'm a first time Mum too so the extra reassurance would have been nice. I hope you get an appointment to see someone soon!

wannabebump · 18/07/2020 09:03

@NatalieH2220 I've got lots in too! And big things! Makes it really exciting though x
