@Wigglebum87 everytime I tell DH she's kicking or moving he tries to feel or look and she stops completely! 😂

Missworry92 · 07/07/2020 13:46

@MeandSpud thank you, I will have a look and start doing it then 😊 just wish someone explained these things at hospital/midwifes appointments 😁

Clove20 · 07/07/2020 21:35

Has anyone done a list of what to buy?

If so, please share. My list looks somewhat dull x

Missworry92 · 07/07/2020 22:43

I would love a list too haha as I just dont know where to start!

phe694 · 07/07/2020 23:10

i agree with the lists i literally didn't know where to start 😂 i have pretty much got everything now, apart from a few things 🙈 think i was a bit keen, i'm only 20 weeks this friday 🙊

Daisychain1987 · 08/07/2020 08:44

My list with my first looked something like this -

Muslins (lots)
Swaddle muslin
Lansinoh and breast pads
Big comfy period pants
Next to me crib
Pram
Car seat
More maternity pads than you think you’ll need
A good stock of paracetamol and ibuprofen
Stretchy sling
Nappies
Approx 8 long sleeved grows and vests in newborn size
Nighttime nursing bra from JoJo Maman - loved it, no wiring or clips and very comfy at night
Button front pyjama tops for labour and night feeding
2x blankets
A nappy caddy for downstairs and changing mat
Bath towel for baby
Lavender oil to put in the bath for me in the first couple of postnatal weeks - smells divine and good for healing stitches
The baby Bjorn bouncer was very useful for putting baby in when I was showering, cooking etc
Puppy training pads to put under the bed sheet in the last few weeks of pregnancy and on the car seat when transferring into hospital
An amazing concealer to crack open after birth to feel just that tiny bit better about the sleepless nights!

With no. 2 the only changes I’ll be making will be stockpiling biscuits - breastfeeding caused my biscuit intake to rocket! A tuppence and crumble star wrap..and I think that’s it.

HarrietM87 · 08/07/2020 09:35

@Daisychain1987 that list is perfect - pretty much exactly what I had and used for DS1.

You also need cotton wool for nappy changes in the early days and something to bath baby in/with. We had the shnuggle bath which I absolutely loved.

Oh and I always recommend people buy a good in ear thermometer (Braun have good ones) because that’s one of the few things you probably won’t be able to wait for amazon prime to deliver - if you think the baby has a temp you’ll want to know accurately right away!

Pink15 · 08/07/2020 09:41

@Daisychain1987 Thankyou! Good idea about button down PJs for feeding hadn't thought of that!

@HarrietM87 yes good point I defo want a thermometer but might wait a few months... I've heard they're crazy expensive right now 😂

HarrietM87 · 08/07/2020 09:43

Lol @Pink15 I’ve only just realised why 🤣

FilthyforFirth · 08/07/2020 11:23

Just had my interview ladies. It went really well, so well that when they asked for any additional information, I did say I was pregnant. It just felt like they will have a battle to score me down on anything and it will feel obvious if I dont get it. But their immediate reaction was good, said 'well that doesnt matter but thanks for letting us know' etc.

I should find out by Friday, so fingers crossed!

FilthyforFirth · 08/07/2020 11:24

Oh and I have my 20 week scan today, at exactly 20 weeks! Bit nervous for that, but I have been feeling him move so fingers crossed. Has anyone had their husband allowed?

Clove20 · 08/07/2020 11:55

Thank you @daisychain1987

Copying that xx

MissingMo · 08/07/2020 11:58

Great news on the interview and good luck at the scan today @FilthyforFirth, my partner wasn't allowed but that was back on the 30th June

Clove20 · 08/07/2020 11:58

@FilthyforFirth well done and fingers crossed for you x

HarrietM87 · 08/07/2020 12:17

Congrats @FilthyforFirth sounds like it went really well! And I’m sure a load off your mind telling them too.

My hospital has been allowing partners into scans from this week. Sad we missed out!

FilthyforFirth · 08/07/2020 12:28

I'm feeling so cross. Just spoke to my hospital, Frimley, to ask if my husband can attend, they said no and that the rule wont change until there is a vaccine. This seems completely unreasonable. Clearly there is variation across the whole of the UK which is deeply unfair. I worry what their attitude to labour will be now and wondering if I should change hospitals again. Anyone have a good experience of any Hampshire hospitals?

Thank you all re my interview. Yes @HarrietM87 I am glad I told them. Either I get the job and start off on a good foot and only take 9 months mat leave or I dont and I take a full year in my current job and look for something else on mat leave.

Wise0wl · 08/07/2020 12:30

Great news @FilthyforFirth and thank you so much for the list @Daisychain1987

I had my scan on Monday and DH wasn’t allowed, but baby was all fine which is the main thing! Might pay for another private one so DH can see him again.

NatalieH2220 · 08/07/2020 12:48

@FilthyforFirth The job interview sounds really positive, good luck! I have my scan this afternoon and still no partners allowed unfortunately. It does seem to vary by area which is frustrating.

Fouryearslater · 08/07/2020 13:33

Good luck @FilthyforFirth! Fingers crossed!

I also have my scan today dead on 20 weeks 😁 no partners allowed - they rang yesterday to confirm what it said about it on the letter.

Fredthespider · 08/07/2020 13:34

@FilthyforFirth my trust started allowing partners to the 12 week scan again on the 15th June, stating that social distancing prevented them from offering it for all scans but they haven't changed it since the social distancing rules changed this week :( my scan is tomorrow and masks are compulsory so they could go down to 1m. I'm tempted to call them today to double check, I'm confident I've got the first appointment of the day so it's not like we'll be hanging around long.

FilthyforFirth · 08/07/2020 13:45

Good luck to you@fouryearlater. How is the HG? I am back to work week after next, feel a bit nervous, not worked since April. I dont have to go in, so that's something at least.

Thanks to everyone else. This is what I hate. It is guidance, not law. So different trusts are able to implement different rules. Incredibly unfair. I am feeling so down today after that conversation. Terrified I will be giving birth on my own, or for the large majority of it. I am wondering if the rules are the same if you pay for a private room? I had a section last time and we were in pur own room. I couldnt do anything. I didnt change DS nappy or clothe him. DH did it all and passed him to me to feed/cuddle etc. I had a catheter for the best part of 24 hours. How the hell do you do that on your own? I'm so frightened now Sad

Fouryearslater · 08/07/2020 17:59

@FilthyforFirth it’s much better but I puke if I’m off the drugs. How about you?

How did your scan go? I’m hoping rules will be more relaxed by November. And I guess midwives and HCAs step in where you’re having difficulties. I’ll be in a similar boat.

FilthyforFirth · 08/07/2020 18:10

My scan went well thanks, all good and normal, definitely a boy! She couldnt see all of the spine proprlerly so I'm going back next week. But not too worried. How did yours go?

My HG is getting to the 'manageable' stage. I am on promethezine, ondansetron and omeprozole. I am sick maybe once or twice a week. It is the nausea that still kills me, though I would say every other day it is 'low level'. I would love this to be the beginning of the end but I dont have any confidence it wont come back like last time!

HarrietM87 · 08/07/2020 18:15

For people worried about lockdown rules when giving birth, 4 of my friends have given birth in lockdown and it was fine for all of them. They said the midwives did their best to bend the rules as much as possible so their other halves could be there from the beginning (rules say partners allowed in active labour, ie 4cm, but all of them were allowed to stay from as soon as they arrived, even if they weren’t 4cm yet), and then they were obviously all there for the deliveries. It’s a bit sad that they can’t stay for long after birth, but everyone said it was fine and the postnatal wards were quieter and nicer than with their first babies where everyone’s partners were there too. And they are trying to discharge people ASAP so you don’t spend long there.

So I think even if these measures are in place in November (hopefully not!) it will actually be ok 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

MrsR87 · 08/07/2020 18:25

@HarrietM87
That’s good to know. I feel like I should be worrying about this but to be honest I think it’s pointless even thinking that far ahead as things keep changing so much and like you say, hopefully things will have changed significantly by November!
