@EithneBlue People do tend to scaremonger. I only scaremonger if asked lol. For me life did change unrecognisably. I didn't have a night away from my daughter until she was 2 and that was to have an operation. Tried to go on holiday abroad with her when she was 18months and it was hell. Paid a lot of money for the holiday which was worse than being at home. BUT I was and am one of these paranoid mothers and my dd was one of these sickly and even when well high maintenance, needed constant interaction types of babies. I know lots of people who have managed a more balanced existence because of a combination of factors. I know mums that have been on hen weekends abroad so it is possible. It all depends on what your feelings will be, what kind of baby you get and how much help you have which you don't know until you're there.

PipTed · 04/07/2020 14:56

I’ve been thinking about the Christmas situation also, baby could be anywhere from 6 - 2 weeks old. We sometimes host, but I will not be offering our home as a base this year. Like others have mentioned, I think we’re going to politely decline any invitations and stay home as the three of us and if anyone wants to pop in, they can do so for a short visit. Feel like it’s a special day to just experience our first Christmas as a new family and start new traditions. 😊

nearlyamummyof2boys · 04/07/2020 15:27

@firstbabybell totally depends on baby but I think you would be fine! Newborns just eat sleep and poo! So as long as there a safe place for them to eat and sleep!
It's much harder with an older baby who's starting to move around trust me!
It might give you a little break as well - it is lovely having everyone there to see the baby and might save lots of individual trips x

nearlyamummyof2boys · 04/07/2020 15:29

@firstbabybell but I do think this an your first family Christmas and you are allowed to do anything you like! It's more about how tired you will after birth etc! ❤️

nearlyamummyof2boys · 04/07/2020 15:32

@chubbyhotchoc I totally agree I think you can do many things but it does depend totally on your help and how the baby is. Mine is 10 months and I've only had one night away from him - when I was in hospital.
But now we are moving closer to family I think we will be able to do more.
Prams are made to take babies out and explore in - depending on baby obvs!

Hanrora06 · 04/07/2020 16:00

@Snowwhite2020 same! Been noticing it more and more over the past week. Like gentle tickling or fluttering. So nice. I seem to notice it more when I'm sitting up rather than lying down.

peachypetite · 04/07/2020 16:25

I haven’t felt anything yet, I’m 19 weeks on Monday. Who else has their scan this coming week? Xxx

PipTed · 04/07/2020 16:36

@peachypetite my scan is on Tuesday at 4pm. I don’t know how I’m going to get through the day, to be honest; the scanxiety is real!

When is yours?

Missworry92 · 04/07/2020 16:36

@peachypetite @Snowwhite2020
I'm 21weeks tomorrow and I have quite a lot of bubbling and turning sensation and also can feel like a pulse coming from the belly. At week 19 I didnt feel many bubbles 😊 I think another week and you will both start feeling loads! Obvs its different for everyone but that's what I've felt so far 😊

peachypetite · 04/07/2020 16:48

Yes and I’m a first time mum so think it’s often later. Mine is Friday. I actually haven’t been feeling too nervous, I was much worse a week before the 12 week. I’m sure Thursday night I’ll be feeling anxious and won’t be able to eat though.

Hanrora06 · 04/07/2020 16:49

I went ahead and booked a private scan for the 15th so my husband can go. As my mum offered to treat me I went for a private pregnancy clinic where I'll get to see a consultant and get a report and stuff and it's still only £95, can't believe it really! Can't wait!!

firstbabybell · 04/07/2020 16:51

@pipted good luck for Tues!
Mine is on Friday. This week is going to draaaaaag! Luckily I have a few fun things planned to help the time pass.

@nearlyamummyoftwoboys thanks for your advice, nice to hear a different spin, mostly I've heard people advising to stay at home.

Pinktruffle · 04/07/2020 18:55

@posted my scan is a week on Monday, feels like an age away. Mine is also at 4pm, why do they do them so late in the day?! Makes the day drag so much, it's awful!

We just ordered our Cot and Drawer set from Mamas and Papas in the sale! We were going to wait till after the scan but were worried the sale would end/it would sell out. Also managed to get an extra £25 off by signing up to the mailing list. Got them for £375.

Regarding Christmas, I'm due on the 26th November, they are unlikely to let me go much over that as it's an IVF pregnancy so should have the baby before December. We always go to my mum and dads from Christmas (2 hours away). My in laws dont celebrate Christmas at all, but Christmas is a huge deal to my family. I would be gutted if I didn't get to go so I'm hoping I will be recovered enough from the birth to go. It would be kind of depressing to spend it at home.

Pinktruffle · 04/07/2020 18:56

That should be @PipTed, not sure how it changed to posted!

Kj1010 · 04/07/2020 19:16

Hi ladies I had my scan today private and it's a boy all looks healthy and fine I've got 24 days till the 20 week one with hospital hoping things change so partner can come to that one aswell in regards to xmas we always stay home which I do love this year is gonna be weird lol I'm due the 13thdecember im not sure what will happen as coz of my age weight etc im classes high risk so dont think they let me go over well hope not so I will be a busy bee with food presents etc beginning of December so it's all done and will be staying at home sod lugging everything around and only be a week or 2 I wud of had bubs

Pinktruffle · 04/07/2020 19:28

Congratulations @Kj1010, brilliant to hear baby boy is healthy and doing well

Kj1010 · 04/07/2020 19:31

@Pinktruffle thankyou a little relieved still doesn't feel real though

PipTed · 04/07/2020 23:06

Thanks @Pinktruffle @peachypetite @firstbabybell - hope your scans go well and come round quick!

Urgh - they should do all scans in the morning - it’s just mean making us wait until the end of the day.

Congratulations @Kj1010 fab news.

We went out for a meal tonight and I had a bit of a funny turn-went a bit dizzy, felt sick and really hot and stuffy. After a bit of fresh air I was fine but, just wondered if anyone else has had any similar episodes? I’m 19 + 2 so hoping it’s just blood pressure playing up?

roro87 · 04/07/2020 23:08

@EithneBlue OMG yes!! I booked a family holiday for us when baby is 4 months and you would swear I said I was going to a 3rd world country. All I hear is no more holidays, you'll be tied to the house. Someone actually said you will need to grow up now - ah financially independent 32 year old I think i will manage. Also if another person asks me when I am going to get rid of my dog I won't be responsible for what I say back. Also my partners mother said the baby won't have a name and will be a bastard because we are not married. ok sorry rant over 😅

Missworry92 · 05/07/2020 00:12

@PipTed hope you are feeling okay now! I kept getting dizzy spells where I went light headed and very sweaty in like seconds. My mum suggested that it might of been due to iron deficiency and I've been having more of it and seem to feel better. Not sure if it's the same thing but might not hurt to increase iron intake in food x

peachypetite · 05/07/2020 05:44

In lucky, I was allowed to pick the time of my scan (went to reception following the end of 12 week and arranged it in person) and I picked super early. Oh my god @roro87 I can’t believe she said that!!!

confused107 · 05/07/2020 06:30

Morning all. This just came up on my Facebook. It makes the day and night perfect prep machine £65 with the discount. Never heard of the outlet so I hope it's genuine (I get too suspicious sometimes)

firstbabybell · 05/07/2020 07:24

@roro87 whoa that is harsh from your partner's mum! I hope it was just a bad joke.

I am hoping to be as flexible as possible with our baby & fully planning on leaving it with both grandparents early on so we can have some couple time. I guess it could all go out of the window when they're here there. I am a control freak already so I'll have to watch I'm not too neurotic! 🤦‍♀️

firstbabybell · 05/07/2020 07:26

Also, just curious... How often are people doing their pelvic floor exercises? I am doing them daily but maybe miss a day a week on average. Should we doing them several times a day at this stage? X

EithneBlue · 05/07/2020 08:06

@firstbabybell - Whenever I think of them - usually 1-3 times a day -- But I have to do them all the time anyway: a weird side effect of having hypermobility is stress incontinence so if I don't do them I pee when I sneeze which isn't what anyone wants.

@roro87 She said what?! Has she time travelled from the 1950s?! I'm actually married (although not sure husband's family love the fact that I didn't change my name because, you know, I'm his wife not his property), but by her definition I am myself a bastard... hasn't done me any harm 😂
OMG the number of times I've wanted to retort to someone that we are financially independent and yes we can afford the childcare for me to work full time without a significant lifestyle change because, you know, years of effective budgeting and a tendency towards cheap lifestyle choices anyway (except the love of holidays) But that seems rather rude so I just smile and nod... 😂😂
A holiday sounds exciting! Where are you planning to go? I'm waiting on booking the post baby holiday to see what the travel restrictions are by then - I'd like to take advantage of using maternity leave for a cheaper term-time holiday somewhere a little further afield but at the moment I don't think the British are going to be allowed anywhere near New Zealand. We do have a UK holiday booked for when I am in the third trimester but it's not very far from home.

@chubbyhotchoc oh it entirely depends on the baby (and me) - if it takes after my husband it'll be the most laid back kid on the planet... if it takes after me it'll probably be pretty hyperactive - but I don't get why people advise such pessimism as a starting point it's just not really the end of the world if I decide I'm not up for camping with the baby or want to work 4 days a week instead of 5. Maybe I'm unusual in not being bothered about adjusting my expectations as we go?
