We are in Liverpool with OHs parents next weekend so think will do a Private Scan there as we will finally have childcare! As you still cannot take children to any near me - which I do understand in the current climate!

I'm not sure which scan to get is the well being + the most appropriate?
I'm not a massive fan on 4Ds literally just want a reassurance scan 😊

Kj1010 · 26/06/2020 19:13

@nearlyamummyof2boys they do all different packages and I'm sure they do just a reassurance scan 4d I'm not sure on I no the one I have they give u a sneak peek at 4d but no pics also anyone else have this the left side of womb all soft and right side hard

chubbyhotchoc · 26/06/2020 20:12

@nearlyamummyof2boys with my dd I used before the stork in Liverpool on Sefton street. They were very good. They have a huge screen too to see baby. We only have ultrasound direct where we live now and I've never rated their scan experiences much.

Good old archive thread on reusable wipes for anyone if interested. Really explains the inns and outs of storing the stained wipes (dry is considered best these days as soaking buckets actually fester and make everything smell so much worse) , to washing protocol and taking them out with you. Enjoy 👣👣

@ChampooPapi I have already purchased a bunch of Cheeky Wipes 😂

excitednerves · 26/06/2020 22:51

@ChampooPapi I’m actually really looking forward to the newborn stage now that I know what I’m in for - and enjoying it this time round. What a sweet thread. Nothing is ever as bad as the horror stories.

Sooo looking forward to using my Bugaboo Donkey too. Although I’ve washed it all down and don’t want to get it dirty before we move house. Is that mad?

I’m also a reusable wipes user! Although I use them for faces and hands after mealtimes as wipes brought DS out in a rash and I thought these were better for the environment too. Mine are from Little Gubbins and they’re great

PipTed · 26/06/2020 23:31

@Kj1010 I had a similar thing this morning; bump had a softer left side and hard right side. I think I just needed the loo though. Sometimes it’s brought on because of dehydration, after a few glasses of water it was ok. X

RestorationInsanity · 27/06/2020 11:46

@Kj1010 apparently womb actually turns to the right as it lifts from your pelvis so it's not totally central, and if you can feel a harder area it may be because that's where the baby is/baby's head is.

Kj1010 · 27/06/2020 11:55

@restorationlnsanity I never knew thanks

RestorationInsanity · 27/06/2020 13:28

I found the same, my bump seems to be harder on the right, and I know during the dating scan baby was persistently cuddled into my hip, and wouldn't budge even with lots of ultrasound prodding!

Have just checked my trusts COVID maternity guidance. They've really upped the strictness during labour. When you arrive, you have to wait to be called in, then two staff meet you in ppe and fit you and your birth partner with surgical masks which you have to wear unless the two of you are alone. It's making me seriously consider a home birth.

EithneBlue · 27/06/2020 13:45

@RestorationInsanity -- are your trust offering that or would it mean going private? It's definitely something you should look in to if it's available to you :) I do wonder how much will have changed by November: if the trajectory of the pandemic is still positive, it might mean much lighter restrictions by then? Or we'll be in the middle of a second wave and back in lockdown...

RestorationInsanity · 27/06/2020 14:08

@EithneBlue our trust is offering it. the midwife who did my 16 week call actually suggested it as she said I'd get continuity of care as the team is only four midwives and the do all your antenatal appointments etc. DH said he's happy for us to look into and do it if it means the best combined outcome for me and the baby.

EithneBlue · 27/06/2020 14:15

Wow, I would definitely look into it, then! It's not exactly a choice set in stone, anyway - you could always change your mind :-)

jojanna · 27/06/2020 15:17

@EithneBlue gosh, I really hope the restrictions are lifted by November... the current set up sounds utterly miserable - labouring for hours on my own before "active labour", then having to choose between having my partner or my mum to be with me for a brief couple of hours... Think I'd be pretty agitated.

Hanrora06 · 27/06/2020 15:24

@RestorationInsanity I've definitely started considering a home birth more. This is my 1st pregnancy so I've done a lot of research and I'm slightly leaning towards that, especially given coronavirus restrictions, or the midwife led unit next to the maternity hospital in my area (Sheffield). I wonder if coronavirus restrictions are as strict in the MLU as hospital. Planning on discussing all this next time the midwife calls me, including her thoughts on risks for first labour at home....

Kj1010 · 27/06/2020 15:51

I unfortunately cant have a home birth due to 1 c section plus coz of my age now and weight etc so I will have to be in a hospital for this birth but hoping things change by then but if they dont o do plan on staying at home for aslong as I can handle the pain before going to hospital the thought of my oh not being there till established labour frightens the shit out of me as he is my rock my support the calmer

Snowwhite2020 · 27/06/2020 15:53

Anyone got thoughts about white noise machines for newborns? I’ve got a few friends that swear by them. The my hummy has come up but also night lights which have white noise like the hatch baby rest xx

roro87 · 27/06/2020 16:19

@ChampooPapi you were right again. We are having a boy 💙

Pinktruffle · 27/06/2020 16:36

@Snowwhite2020 I've heard people recommend them too, on the flipside others have said to me to just use the white noise sounds available on Spotify rather than spending money on a machine.
So I'll be doing that first, partly to make sure it helps baby. We have a couple of unused bluetooth speakers in the house so if baby does like it, Spotify and bluetooth speaker is likely to be the way forward

Snowwhite2020 · 27/06/2020 17:12

Good tip @pinktruffle thanks! Xx

RestorationInsanity · 27/06/2020 19:11

I think I've started feeling the baby move! A couple of flicks last night and then this evening, it's a bit like when you go over a hill in the car, or a rollercoaster but a lot more subtle!

ChampooPapi · 27/06/2020 19:25

@roro87 how lovely to have a baby boy 👣👣 any scan photo update for those of us who are having sonograph withdrawals 💜

@Snowwhite2020 yes a phone Bluetoothed to a speaker or just playing through the phone itself is as good. I also find babies love a quiet background of radio 4 or 4extra too , the gentle voices are the perfect lullaby often

I too would also consider a home birth with a single pregnancy this time, as my last was born like half an hour after arriving at the hospital, it would no doubt be the safest option for me.to labour at home. I was born outside the lift doors myself at Torbay hospital so I was one of those babies. Fast labour's, a hospital close by in case, combined with Coronavirus situation and of course a low risk pregnancy, a home birth could be a really good option for a fair few women here. And you can request pethadine to store in the fridge at home from the doctor so the midwife can administer of you did want more then gas and air too.
