@excitednerves you won't regret the mountain buggy, it is fantastic from birth to large toddler, and my duet is the same width as my swift, plus the parts are so easy to access either new or second hand. I will probably replace all my wheels with the hard ones from their website, though you only usually get like one puncture a year or something. And standard inner tubes from bike shops or Amazon ect will fit as the wheels are either 10 inch or twelve.

I am seriously Mr myagi on mountain buggies so ask anything you need.

(Except if a pre 2015 swift carrycot will fit on a post 2018 duet 😆🤯)

Hey! I’m such a long time lurker on this post, it’s quite embarrassing! But I finally plucked up the courage to join in, I’m 16+5 today and had a private gender scan on Saturday. It’s a boy💙 we’re so excited. Hope everyone else is doing well xx

ChampooPapi · 15/06/2020 09:34

Hey @CurlyT94 welcome and congratulations 🙌 I'm 16,6 so we may be due date twins, mine is the 24th of November. Have you brought anything yet? And when your 20 week scan? Mine is the 7th of July and now seems ages away 😆

OP posts:
firstbabybell · 15/06/2020 09:39

@curlyt94 hi! And congrats on your boy! Seems like there's a lot of blue ones on this thread!!

Sorry ladies but need to have a moan. I've just called again to chase my midwife about my 16 week appointment to be told that in Sheffield they're not bothering with that anymore. So the next time anyone will see me is at the 20 week scan (which for me will be 21 weeks). I just feel completely abandoned & like they couldn't give a shit about us. I have some questions for her & was really looking forward to hearing the heartbeat but now I am just left for another month with no input whatsoever. It's my first baby & I would have appreciated a bit of hand holding.

What about BP, bloods & urine? And also rhesus & immunizations???

firstbabybell · 15/06/2020 09:41

I am actually sat here in tears! Ridiculous I know but still...

Kj1010 · 15/06/2020 10:01

@firstbabybell it's not ridiculous at all if u need to cry cry that is quite bad that they ain't doing the 16 week checkup as you want to hear that heart beat etc and have all ur questions answered I'm very anxious i with this pregnancy coz of age weight etc iso that would do me if I didn't get that appointment even though tbh I worry about everything and cant seem to enjoy this pregnancy at the moment I get the have to take precautions etc but to just leave you is not right

peachypetite · 15/06/2020 10:03

@firstbabybell I think the majority of us will be having phone appointments, at least I am this week for the 16th, so no blood urine heartbeat etc. here. I do also feel like I’ve barely seen a midwife, but I’ve just been going on the nhs website for info. What did they say about rhesus?

excitednerves · 15/06/2020 10:06

@ChampooPapi my mind is blown!!! That was literally the only thing putting me off!

@CurlyT94 congratulations on your boy! 💙

@firstbabybell that’s really awful, I can totally understand why you’re upset. Can you call again and ask for some support? It’s not right that they leave you for 8 weeks with unanswered questions.

kkr168 · 15/06/2020 10:08

@firstbabybell Can you afford a private scan? I had 1 on Thursday, it was well worth the £59 cost just to hear my baby's heart beat, I was very disappointed they didn't do this at my 12 week scan.
In our area they are doing telephone consultations at 16 weeks, but no bloods, urine, etc until the 20 week scan. I'm pretty sure they said I would then have physical appointments with the midwife from 28 weeks +, but might be wrong on that.

110APiccadilly · 15/06/2020 10:22

We also are having phone appointments for 16 weeks - mine is this week. I have a scan at 20 weeks but as long as they don't see any problems, I won't be seeing the midwife then either - just the scan, then straight home.

I had BP, blood and urine taken at the 12 week appointment - I assume that's it for those now.

Not sure what happens in later pregnancy - to be honest I'm not sure there's much point my finding out now as it could all change by the time I get there!

ChampooPapi · 15/06/2020 10:24

@firstbabybell that is absolutely outrageous, you have very right to be upset, I am fuming for you. You should 100 percent be seen at sixteen weeks, I am shocked with that level of care in your area. Not ok!

OP posts:
MummyShark97 · 15/06/2020 10:24

@firstbabybell I'm so surprised by this. I was Sheffield but switched to Rotherham early on as I'm actually nearer Rotherham Hospital but probably moving house soon and may end up with Sheffield again! I really didn't gel with the community midwife in Sheffield. Just had my 16 week appointment over the phone and one of my friends who is with Sheffield just had hers face to face so that's really confusing. Sorry you're having a rubbish time, at 16 weeks I was told no antibodies in my blood etc so it was a relief to know about Rhesus etc. I really feel for you. Have you a phone number you can call to reach the midwife team?

we're going to miracle inside in Leeds for a private scan which is £45. I don't know if this helps you! x

kkr168 · 15/06/2020 10:28

My midwife has literally just rang for my 16 week consultation, it was only a quick chat, mainly went through my blood results from the 12 week scan (which were all normal), asked if i'm happy to have the whooping cough jab at the 20 week scan, asked if I had any concerns/questions. She has booked in a physical appointment for 17th August, when I will be 25 weeks.
I did ask on the likelihood of dh being able to attend the 20 week scan, she said he definitely wouldn't be allowed, the earliest they are looking to reintroduce partners is august.

chubbyhotchoc · 15/06/2020 10:42

@MummyShark97 ahh I had my daughter at Rotherham general.
@firstbabybell
I think it's all really confused. I've had voicemails left saying that they're only doing 16 week appointments over the phone. Then another left saying they are followed by a third and fourth changing the date and location twice. Tbh I'm not too bothered about seeing them but then again I put very little stock in midwives in general and found them less than useless when I had my first.

ChampooPapi · 15/06/2020 10:47

All our appointments are face to face now in south west, Torbay/totnes area. I went to my 16 week appointment in the end because of her listening to the babies as well as the testing.

She said all are face to face now here, from booking in and beyond 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
confused107 · 15/06/2020 10:47

I had a call from the midwife at 8 or 9 weeks and she said she wouldn't be seeing me until at least 24 weeks so think it's nothing (not even a call) for me at 16 weeks either. I'm in Staffordshire. My 20 week scan is booked for the 16th July so that's the next time I will see anyone, but imagine that it will just be a sonographer I see.

We are going to book a private scan in the next couple of weeks. Mainly for reassurance and also because we would like to find out the sex and we want to find out together. At the moment DH still isn't allowed into the 20 week scan. I'm so nervous something is wrong before any scan I do wish I could have him with me, especially now things are being lifted. By the time I go for my scan we will likely be allowed to sit and stand a metre away from each other in bars and restaurants. I absolutely dread something being wrong and me having to remember everything and repeat it to him

Icantthinkofanickname123456 · 15/06/2020 10:48

@kkr168 thats a shame about your DH not being allowed to the 20 week scan. My hospital has now announced that as of today 1 other person is allowed to attend for scans and also attend during birth and visit for 1 hour per day to the post natal ward. The hospital actually said last week no partners to scans but then changed things last minute - hopefully your hospital will do the same. They don't want to get people's hopes up and take it away so make these announcements last second.

I have my phonecall appointment today too so good to know what to expect. I did get a call from the hospital on Friday saying I had to wear a mask to my appointment today - to which I replied is it at the hospital (I'm not wearing one to speak to them over the phone! Grin)? They did give me the option of going to the hospital for the 16 week appointment if I wanted so it seems like they may be starting to phase out telephone appointments but also happy to do it over the phone and I chose phone so to minimise my contact with the hospital (plus its 45 mins each way to get to the hospital too).

Even though my partner will be allowed at the 20 week scan we are keeping our private gender scan as we are too excited to see baby again so we get to find out the gender on THURSDAY!

EithneBlue · 15/06/2020 10:54

@firstbabybell - I just went off on one at PALs about the quality of care Blush -- having a little cry would probably be more reasonable on my part but I'm pretty upset too. My NHS trust don't do the heartbeat check at 16 weeks anymore anyway, but I'm pretty miffed about not having basic health checks for myself :(

@Fredthespider - Oh, small world! Mine is on 8th. I've sent a pretty snarky email: I doubt they'll change their minds but at least now they know I'm angry...

In other news - those nappies I mentioned that I bought on gumtree just arrived in absolutely amazing condition with loads more liners than I expected: an actual bargain.

Kj1010 · 15/06/2020 11:02

My 16 week appointment is the 7th July phonecall then a scan on 28th july I have a appointment with consultant on 14th july told partner wont be allowed but I'm so anxious I'm gonna demand they let him in as I will forget anything they tell me I'm that bad at my 12 week one last week I had heart palpitations sweating nearly crying the whole lot I'm currently feeling very anxious over the blood results worrying if anything is wrong I had my downs blood results sat which was very quick and came back low risk that made me cry of relief the way I feel at the moment I dont feel I will enjoy this pregnancy at all as it will be filled with anxious etc

firstbabybell · 15/06/2020 11:03

Gosh, thanks so much for all your lovely replies. This thread is a godsend! It has really helped hearing everyone elses experiences.

We did have a cheeky private scan last Sunday which was amazing as husband could attend & it was only £45 which I thought was quite reasonable so maybe we will just do that again.

@chubbyhotchoc your midwife comment made me laugh - think I'm coming to the same conclusion!

peachypetite · 15/06/2020 11:08

It really does feel like a bit of a postcode lottery - definitely not consistent across trusts and all very disorganised. I’ll still never forget how upset I was having rang to check whether to come in person to my 12 week, being told by some numpty on the phone yes, then being sent away on the day and told I should have been phoned to tell me not to come in Angry

Aereon91 · 15/06/2020 11:08

I haven't talked to my assigned midwife once since I started the process. Whenever I've been called by the triage it's always just been someone else... I had the usual (nowadays) phone appointment at 10 weeks to 'book me in' and then had my booking in bloods and urine taken at my 12 week scan (though they claim they never got my urine)...

I had a telephone conversation a couple days after to talk about getting an Anti D injection at 28 weeks, but apart from that I'm just waiting for my 20 week scan. I'm 16+3 so I'll have to see if I get a phone call this week. I'm just kind of wondering when I'll finally talk to the lady named on my paperwork... This is my first baby so I'm just kind going with the flow.

I'm excited for the 4th of July though. Private scan booked for partner to see the baby and find out the gender! :)

RunnerGirl123 · 15/06/2020 11:19

I'm expecting a call on Thursday for my 16 weeks appointment. I was told after my 12 week scan that face to face would start at 25 or 28 weeks, up until then phone is fine. I am going to ask for another urine test as I have no idea if my asymptomatic uti has actually gone. Sorry to hear you've not been offered that @firstbabybell. My midwife did say I could contact her anytime for non urgent queries so is there a number you could text or call to get hold of her?

I had a call from fetal medicine this morning and they're going to scan me on Wednesday afternoon. Feeling really nervous about it, but glad I don't have to wait 5 weeks. I hope they can give a few more answers too.

Icantthinkofanickname123456 · 15/06/2020 11:36

@RunnerGirl123 I've been having tons of actually symptomatic utis, Ive had 4 lots of antibiotics since being pregnant. I've now stopped calling the drs every time and just generally wait for them to subside now as the antibiotics make me feel sick. I bought some urine test strips from amazon and test my own urine for infections (the presence of leukocytes (or white blood cells) indicate an infection). They arent expensive (£7.35 for 100 strips) and they also test for other things too - I tend to do them once or twice a week now just in case. If my UTI lasts more than 2-3 days then I will call gp again but if not then I'll just let my body do its thing. I know its probably not the best thing to do but I completely go off all food and water even makes me feel sick when on these antibiotics that are also safe for pregnancy so its kind of trying to find the right balance.
