@ChampooPapi I had my 16 week check over the phone - it lasted about 20mins but I had a few questions. She just asked some health check questions and that was it! I’m surprised you are being offered face to face. I won’t be seeing anyone until 25 weeks apart from the 20 week scan. I would call and request it if you feel more comfortable with a face to face consultation xx

Teaandbiscuits123 · 07/06/2020 09:53

*phone consultation!!

peachypetite · 07/06/2020 09:55

@lionsmum this may be helpful: so two cups of coffee could actually be over depending on the type you drink. Also remember that other things contain caffeine too. Personally I’ve cut completely (previously a year and coffee fiend) but it just doesn’t taste the same to me these days. www.tommys.org/pregnancy-information/im-pregnant/nutrition-pregnancy/check-your-caffeine-intake-pregnancy

PipTed · 07/06/2020 09:58

@ChampooPapi my 16 week appointment is on Friday and will be over the phone. I do have to go in to hospital in a few weeks (I’ll be 18 weeks by then) as I need an internal examination, due to a previous LLETZ operation.

Anyone else had an internal and can provide some insight in what to expect and what they will be looking for? My midwife hasn’t explained this and was just booked in when I went for my dating scan, based on my notes.

PipTed · 07/06/2020 09:59

@lionsmum I have one small cup of machine coffee every morning and that’s it. I’m scared if I don’t have it I will be bunged up🙈

I don’t really fancy Tea or coffee otherwise, anyway.

roro87 · 07/06/2020 10:42

@lionsmum I'm a complete tea addict. I'm most definitely over the recommended amount most days (not by much) but I really try to keep an eye on it. When I feel sick it helps ease the nausea and in Ireland it is a really go to thing. As mum would say there isn't much a cup of tea can't fix

PipTed · 07/06/2020 11:58

@roro87 @lionsmum my friend was the same, she had terrible hg and was completely wiped out until 16 weeks. She said she had about 3 espressos a day, to keep her functioning and when she told her midwife she didn’t seem too concerned. X

Amyyy1 · 07/06/2020 12:15

@lionsmum I have cut out pretty much completely for now! When I was going through really bad sickness I had a lot of coke as it was the only thing that seemed to help me feel a little better. I'll have a cup of tea maybe once a week when I'm cold but that's it. I've never been a huge coffee drinker though, only iced coffee and due to the virus I haven't had that for ages and it's too much faff to do one at home 🙈

NaomiB79 · 07/06/2020 12:16

@ChampooPapi I have my 16 week appt on Tuesday with the midwife. They offered me to go to the medical centre or come to my house. I chose the centre because it is completely locked down and I figured all the equipment is there to do all the checks they need to but maybe you could ask if it is an option for them to come to you. I live in Scotland so things might be different here.

nearlyamummyof3 · 07/06/2020 12:25

Thanks @excitednerves it's been so hard for us we originally just going to rent and could not find anything and anything we did find just seemed to go in a day - I guess everyone wanted to move after lockdown.
This one is 5 minutes from my partners family and with 3 under 14 months gonna need it.

I guess we are extra picky when we've got children involved - I hope you find something soon 😊

lc86 · 07/06/2020 12:30

I've completely gone off tea, I really miss having a nice cup to warm me up

excitednerves · 07/06/2020 13:06

Hi @PipTed I can help with the internal/lletz. They’ll be measuring your cervical length, they use an ultrasound scanner that’s like a wand that goes inside and they’ll take measurements of your cervix. It’s likely you’ll get a look at baby too - my consultant always does! It doesn’t hurt at all and my consultant has always been amazing - this is my second pregnancy with her. If they have any concerns they’ll talk you through your options. Fingers crossed it all goes well for you.

I have a short cervix (even without being pregnant) so I’m on progesterone throughout my pregnancy with fortnightly scans with the consultant.

excitednerves · 07/06/2020 13:07

@nearlyamummyof3 kids make such a difference when you’re looking at houses. i’d rather find a “forever home” so I’m being extra picky now too!

roro87 · 07/06/2020 13:23

This is probably a really stupid question but how do you know if you have a short cervix?

MummyShark97 · 07/06/2020 13:25

Today is our first anniversary - I can't believe next year we will be a three!

How is everyone today?

👣 Due Late Nov/Early Dec it's bump time! 👣
PipTed · 07/06/2020 13:34

@excitednerves thanks for the insight 😊 I thought it might be something like that and bonus that I might get to see baby too!

What happens if my cervix is too short? Does it mean I could have a pre-term birth? Sorry, I know I’m asking you like you’re a medical professional. 😂 Thank you, hoping everything is just normal.

Snowwhite2020 · 07/06/2020 14:00

@Pipted have you had lletz once or more than once? If it’s just once and it’s a small area that was treated there will likely be no complications. If you have had a significant amount of cervix removed it can weaken your cervix and you can be at risk of early term labour.

I have had it but it was once and a small areas so not expecting any major problems but will also be having an extra internal scan at 20 weeks. Also have an anterior placenta so they’re checking the position of that at the same time xx

excitednerves · 07/06/2020 14:14

@roro87 I’ve had 3 lots of surgery/procedures so I’d been warned that I had a short cervix. Otherwise no way to know really.

@pipted yes it’s a risk factor - it doesn’t mean you will, but I did.

chubbyhotchoc · 07/06/2020 14:33

@MummyShark97 gosh you look lovely! You're going to have a very cute baby shark 🦈

Amyyy1 · 07/06/2020 14:34

@MummyShark97 Happy 1st anniversary!!! Absolutely gorgeous picture of you both😍

roro87 · 07/06/2020 15:02

@MummyShark97 beautiful picture. Enjoy your last anniversary as a 2 Grin

Happy Anniversary 💍👩‍❤️‍👨

ChampooPapi · 07/06/2020 15:46

@chubbyhotchoc yes the thought of having a listen is tempting me to go, and the fact that it's basically something to do on Wednesday!

@Teaandbiscuits123 I was supprised, and suspicious when she phoned and said face to face at the local small hospital. It's not Torbay the one in torquey so no a&e there or anything. But I definitely imagined also turning up and for her to start phoning me because it wasn't there at all!

Ill give her a call tomorrow. It wouldn't surprise me if we never ending up meeting in person, but I don't mind that really.

It's been quite a weird time the last week with the relaxation of things but then the rising figures and just not really knowing what the plan is or the future holds.

@ChampooPapi that's a good idea about getting the strips online to do yourself! I guess it's only really BP too she'd need to check.

@peachypetite thank you so much for that link, so handy!

@PipTed I'm glad to know of others still drinking it lol was starting to feel guilty😅

@roro87 I completely agree with you about tea, it's such a healer, I'm a total convert. I hardly drank it but once we lost our son last year I found myself being really comforted by it. Your mum is definitely right!

@Amyyy1 that's good, we all have our vices though I guess!

@MummyShark97 happy anniversary! hope you had a lovely day whatever you are doing💖
