For my scan today the letter says to have a full bladder, but do you think this is really needed? I find the appointment ends up being late and I am in agony needing to go to the toilet and then all I can think is 'I need to pee!!'. Do you think just a vaguely full bladder would be ok?

Oatmilk1 · 16/06/2020 13:59

@sqidgebum

Just bring a water bottle and drink some in the waiting room - that's what I did for my 12 wk scan.

I didn't think a 20wk scan required a full bladder though...

Beccarans89 · 16/06/2020 14:02

@SquidgeBum I wouldn't worry too much! On my letter for my 20wk scan it says that this scan does not require a full bladder. I'm the same, I need a wee so quickly and it's all I can concentrate on! So maybe just take some water with you and have some just before.

HarrietM87 · 16/06/2020 14:07

@SqidgeBum pretty sure vaguely full will definitely be fine! They actually made me do a urine sample before my 12 week scan so my bladder was empty and it was still ok...baby so much bigger now! Good luck!

SqidgeBum · 16/06/2020 14:24

It seems different trusts have different advice on their letters. Good to know it doesnt need to be properly full though. I may actually enjoy this scan haha

Hancock2020 · 16/06/2020 14:40

So my midwife has just kicked my gps ass a little bit.
Gp just called and said they have now found an infection (FINALLY) and that my midwife wants me admitted into hospital, but they dont want to do that just yet. So I've got the last type of antibiotics I can take orally for the next 7 days, if they dont work then they have agreed that I will need to be admitted into hospital to deal with this.
I'm just glad that finally they have found something and it's not in my head, it's taken 2 months of pain and discomfort!

Hancock2020 · 16/06/2020 15:42

So, ive been dying for gold bears. Dh tells me theres package coming for me today in his name and I should just open it.
Oh my eyes!! What a joy to behold 1000g of gold bears 🥰🤩😋

Had my 20 week scan today Smile have a lovely healthy looking baby, typically the legs and arms were always in the way but we got a good look at everything in the end after lots of jumping and jigging! Currently next to me is an envelope with the gender in and it is killing me staring at it waiting for DP to come home from work!! He couldn't come in anyway so felt him going to work was necessary after so long off unpaid, which at the time made sense but he really needs to hurry up and get home now!

BuffaloCauliflower · 16/06/2020 16:17

@Hancock2020 sounds like somethings happening then! Good on your midwife. Hopefully antibiotics will work quickly and no need for hospital.

@SqidgeBum I didn’t even need a full bladder for my 12 week scan. I wonder if some trusts have newer/better equipment than others and that makes the difference? Several people have commented on how clear my scan pictures are.

@CoffeeCakeCream how exciting! Good they wrote it down for you, I know a lot of trusts won’t. Glad everything was looking well Smile

Hiii Im due Nov 8 with my first DC! Kinda wish its a week early so I can have Halloween themed birthday parties for life :D

SqidgeBum · 16/06/2020 17:39

We had our 20 week scan today too. Baby looks lovely and healthy, and was jiggling around a lot, so much that the sonographer struggled to get some of the measurements. However she did say my placenta is low so they are bringing me back for another scan at 32 weeks to check it, and if it hasn't moved I will have to have a section.

Addler · 16/06/2020 18:40

How do you feel about the idea of a section @SqidgeBum? With your precious experience an ELCS might be a very calm relaxed atmosphere for you, even if not the birth you were envisaging.

Addler · 16/06/2020 18:47

Previous!

HarrietM87 · 16/06/2020 18:50

@SqidgeBum I posted about this earlier on the thread - two of my friends had this and one had to have the section - it was a really positive experience. With the other, the placenta had moved by 32 weeks and she had a natural birth, and apparently that happens in the vast majority of cases. Also nice to get an extra scan!

SqidgeBum · 16/06/2020 18:51

I feel ok about it. It's all for safety so whatever is safest I will do. I did want a calmer experience this time around, which a section would be, but if they say at 32 weeks that I have placenta previa then that's that no matter what I want. If it corrects itself then I will go with labour and see what my options are. Whatever will be will be.

MrsR87 · 16/06/2020 19:21

@Hancock2020. Wow! A thoughtful gift from your OH. I never ever eat sweets but I have really been craving them over the past few days!!

Hancock2020 · 16/06/2020 19:41

Apparently it's a baby girl thing 🤷‍♀️

Oatmilk1 · 16/06/2020 21:08

@BuffaloCauliflower

Yes, I am also getting occasional stabbing pains - on the sides and in the middle. It seems to be if I have sat for a while and get up then its a bit like a cramp.

Oatmilk1 · 16/06/2020 21:13

FYI
There is another thread on pelvic girdle pain which can be like cramps/shooting pain in the lower stomach.

BuffaloCauliflower · 16/06/2020 21:55

Thanks @Oatmilk1 I did look up PGP and wasn’t sure as it feels more in the uterus than bones but could well be?

BuffaloCauliflower · 16/06/2020 21:57

DH is so excited about the travel system. We’ve been putting it together to check it’s all there. He loves it. He said ‘I never thought I’d be so excited about a buggy!’ 😂 He then mimed putting the baby in the buggy then said ‘ah I’m gunna be such a good dad, I’m so ready!’ Bless him. It’s so nice to be having a baby with someone who’s so completely in for it.

Oatmilk1 · 16/06/2020 22:26

@buffalocauliflower
Same, i didnt think it was my symptoms either...

So cute about the travel system!!!

FudgeFlies · 16/06/2020 23:46

@Mn345678 I’m due 4th November and also looking forward to the Halloween parties if she comes on time/early! I love Halloween!!

Addler · 17/06/2020 07:10

Wondered if anyone can help with something that's worrying me. I've been reading up on how to get breastfeeding off to a good start as it's really important to me, especially if I do have to have a section, and I came across an article by a woman who couldn't breastfeed because she has tubular breasts. Years ago I read about it and thought I might have tubular breasts, but never bothered to see a doctor about it as everything I read said it was purely cosmetic.

Now I can see that most people with tubular breasts are either unable to breastfeed or can breastfeed a little with supplementation. It's really upset me to think that I won't be able to do this.

Does anybody have any experience or advice?

wannabebump · 17/06/2020 07:33

I'm 20 weeks next week and I've been using a pregnancy pillow to try and get me in to the habit of not sleeping on my back (natural back sleeper). My hips, back and shoulders are all aching, and sometimes I want to lie at more of a 45 degree angle to the bed rather than 90, to try and change the position to elevate some of the aches - stupid question probably, but do you think that's enough of an angle to not worry about being on my back?
