@BntTowers good luck today ☘️

@Buzz22 it's hard to shake the negative thoughts from your head... particularly at 2am when you can't sleep 🙁 I hope these next few days go quickly for you.

@Quiffy my husband still has a big head 🥴 hoping she takes after me instead! My MIL had the cheek to look at our latest ultrasound photo and say that she looks like my DH. Not having that!!

Treaclepie19 · 29/05/2020 10:09

Good luck today @BntTowers!!

Haha @Quiffy when babies are born they're made to look more like the dad so that he doesn't reject them. Most annoying!
My husband has a big head too and so does my 4yo. His head is only 3cm smaller than mine 😱

Good luck @BntTowers!

I feel your pain @Spark27, how old is your little one? I woke up with DD sat next to me on my bed, looking very pleased with herself for sneaking in. She then whacked me in the face while flailing around getting to sleep and then I felt too hot to sleep with all three of us in bed! Ended up getting out and sleeping in DD's room (thankfully she has a full sized single).

@Treaclepie19 That's really interesting about them looking like their dads- DD was the spitting image of baby DH when she was tiny!

@LostinAusten2 hurrah for team yellow! Congratulations on the scan. 💛

@blankiesandunicorns It seems to have just been that one, thankfully. I always worry about placental abruption, even though it's incredibly rare and if it did happen there's nothing they could do about it this early on. Anxiety may go into overdrive after 24 weeks when we're past the point of potential viability (then up again at 28, 32 and 36, if the past is any indication). Hopefully this one stays nice and active throughout so I don't need to fret.

Spark27 · 29/05/2020 14:21

@FourPlasticRings shes 2.5yrs. Her 3rd birthday is 2 days after the next ones EDD. Fortunately she has a standard single bed too. But once you add in her teddies, her wriggly bottom, and me trying to protect the bump there wasnt much space. And theres a bed guard on the side. So while it was down there were still the lumps from the hinges in the way.

Fortunately DH took her off my hands around 0730 and I managed to get another couple of hours sleep.

DH has a zoom quiz with his mates tonight. No doubt it will end up being boozy and late, so I'll try and have a lazy early night. Maybe with chocolate cake.

Hope you guys are managing to get a relaxing friday in to start the weekend. And hoping all the scans go well xx

FourPlasticRings · 29/05/2020 15:09

@Spark27 so about six months older than DD then. That's lovely. Smile I'd have liked a similar age gap ideally but massively overestimated how long it would take to conceive baby #2!

For DD we got a single bed that is as close to the ground as humanly possible and just put the IKEA crash mats on either side of it so she doesn't hurt herself if she falls. Some nights I do check on her and find her asleep on the crash mat though! Grin

I'm glad you got some more sleep. Chocolate cake sounds like the dream! Enjoy your early night.

BntTowers · 29/05/2020 15:42

Scan went well this morning, everything is looking normal, baby was being a bit uncooperative by covering it's face a lot when she was trying to scan there. I don't think our trust is telling you the sex at the moment as I didn't even get asked if I wanted to find out, which is find as we would have been team yellow anyway. I have to book my whooping cough injection at the gp so I'll get round to that at some point.
We've popped out to Dunelm and got some new towels for us (exciting) and the garden centre this afternoon. It's the most I've been in the outside world for a very long time! Was nice to do something different. I've even managed to plant up a couple of the plants we brought the rest have to wait.

@Spark27 I'm glad you managed to get some more sleep, chocolate cake sounds very good right about now.

LostinAusten2 · 29/05/2020 16:02

Congrats on the scan @bnttowers - that’s great news (and my little bump kept hiding its face too). So happy to have finished work for the week - hope everyone has a lovely weekend of it! 🥳

FourPlasticRings · 29/05/2020 17:38

Great news @BntTowers and hurrah for Team Yellow. 💛

Anyone else found that 'Threads I'm On' isn't working? I had to find this thread through the search function.

BooMamaBear · 29/05/2020 17:45

Glad your scan went well @BntTowers !
Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine we went to a big park near where we live for a picnic easy to social distance the park is huge -the playground was shut but DD didn't mind had a good time riding her bike and running around! Perfect with an alco-free pear cider!
Little one has been kicking since we fit back so think she likes being out and about too! Xxx

LexiM · 29/05/2020 17:47

Glad your scan went well @BntTowers - it is nice to get out and do something when we’ve spent so many weeks inside.

Hope you sleep better tonight @Spark27 - chocolate cake sounds good. I’ve just been to the shop and got some ice cream and alcohol free cider - I know how to live! 😂

So weird seeing shops announce they are opening. I need to go to Ikea as what I want isn’t available for delivery but have no idea for queue purposes when will be best to go!

blankiesandunicorns · 29/05/2020 18:19

@FourPlasticRings yeah I know what you mean about increasing anxiety but take each week at a time and reach out for support and reassurance when you need it. I dish out this advice but I'm terrible myself worrying!

Indigogirl88 · 29/05/2020 18:30

Oh my days, pregnancy brain in full throw, I have put random objects in the fridge and more importantly I forgot my whooping cough vaccine this morning! The doctor usually texts to remind of appointment and I totally forgot. I'll have to make a grovelling phone call on Monday

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 29/05/2020 18:59

Hi everyone, just want to see if anyone else if in the same boat as I'm really confused.

I was furloughed in March I'm a nanny, but was asked to go back to work a few weeks ago following the new announcement. The plan with my boss was at 28 weeks I would be furloughed again as Ill be in 3rd trimester (20th July) and I would remain furloughed up until when I go on mat leave.

Now after watching the update tonight they've said employers need to have staff on furlough by June 10th as that is the cut off otherwise it's too late to be put on after that. Which is the position I'm in.

Is anyone in a similar position?

Or those who are furloughed have you remained furloughed this whole time and will continue to be- even though the gov said you could officially go back to work? Xx

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 29/05/2020 18:59

Sorry for boring post I just want to see what other employers are doing and what type of work you do if in similar situation so that I can chat to my boss about it!! X

FourPlasticRings · 29/05/2020 19:27

It's a pretty niche question @AutumnBabyWinterMummy. You might get a better array of responses if you start a thread about it.

I imagine it depends on your employer's situation. We employ a nanny and, because both DH and I are working fully paid still, are (I think) ineligible to claim government furlough for it, so we've just absorbed the cost ourselves thus far. If your employer is unable to use you as childcare but financially out of pocket due to this, I think their only viable option may be to lay you off, but I'm not sure of the ins and outs of being potentially discriminatory if they did.

We're using this guidance: www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/homes

If you really don't want to go back but they expect you to, you could cite section 44:
smallbusiness.co.uk/section-44-what-if-my-employees-refuse-to-return-to-work-2550343/

The problem is that pregnant women are vulnerable but not expected to shield- my own nanny is asthmatic, so vulnerable, but will still be coming to work from next week. I can't imagine that all employees who fall into a vulnerable category will be allowed legally to stay off indefinitely if their employer cannot afford it. I'd ask them what their thoughts are first.

Zaalfruit · 29/05/2020 19:47

@BntTowers lovely news !! Yay team yellow ! That’s lovely that you went shops are they busy ? I am so Excited that shops are opening again , I really want Ikea to open again !! We need to buy a wardrobe for the baby we have a slot of space for either a wardrobe or chest of drawers . Once I find what I want from Ikea we will be able to purchase it .

@Indigogirl88 don’t do what I did I left my phone in the freezer 🤣 the sound no longer works have to use headphones to make calls . I never believed in pregnancy brain till now 🤣

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy sorry not sure how the furlough scheme works . I have decided to work until my due date . My manager said if the baby comes early she will just book it as annual leave. I don’t know if I have done the right thing maybe be closer to the due date I will use my annual leave up.

@BooMamaBear ahh the parks sounds lovely today’s weather was stunning - great way for your Dd to use up energy . So cute that you feel the kicks - I still don’t feel the kicks but at the scan yesterday they said the baby is kicking and I was like I don’t feel it at all! Maybe I should have a fizzy drink and she if that wakes her up?

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 29/05/2020 19:57

@FourPlasticRings thanks for the info and links. I'm employed through their business so maybe that's why they are able to use the furlough scheme.

@Zaalfruit Are you working in your normal work place or at home?

Maybe a broader question would be those who going to be going back to workplace (or already back), when you reach 3rd trimester will you be carrying on or stopping due to us being more vulnerable?

If this doesn't apply to anyone don't worry just ignore it 😂🙈

On a totally different note I'm feeling at times like an old woman just due to the extra weight of baby bump! Some days it's fine other days just feel so big!

Loving all the pram talk, there's just so many to choose from and without actually being able to see them in a shop it's very hard to choose! Xx

BntTowers · 29/05/2020 21:03

@Zaalfruit they weren't busy, in both Dunelm and the garden centre there was a one way system with guild lines on the floor. Everybody stuck to them. I do think we picked a good time for both as when we were leaving each there were queues starting for form.

It's an early night for me tonight, very achy since the scan and a bit of walking without my support belt.

With the working situation I have no idea about furloughed procedure, not sure many people do, but I am working from home at the moment and will likely continue to until maternity leave now. I think if the office goes back before October I will ask to carry on working from home as I don't want to be in the office.

Spark27 · 29/05/2020 21:07

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy I'm currently a mixture between WFH/SPL. I work for the Gov and they've been really good (kind of have to be) in being really flexible and leaving me on full pay. If I do manage to get back in before the 3rd tri I am sure they will send me back home as the ROCG say that's when we are most at risk. But again, I will be on full pay.

For me, I have put my EDD as my mat leave start date, with 2 weeks annual leave before. Last time I gave birth a week early, and that triggered my mat leave starting. For me the HR policy is your mat leave automatically starts the day you give birth. But I did get credited back with the annual leave I missed.

BooMamaBear · 29/05/2020 21:12

@Zaalfruit -you'll be able to feel the kicks soon it just takes a bit longer with your first and if you have an anterior placenta this cushions them!! Xxx

LexiM · 29/05/2020 21:30

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy I went on furlough end of March until end of April, came off and I’m back on now although likely to stay on now. I agree about doing a separate post which might help. On Instagram I follow Pregnant then Screwed - might be worth seeing if they can give you advice on your rights as they specialise in this type of thing.

I was under the impression you could only work as a nanny if nobody was vulnerable in the house and I presume that must include the nanny, but I get confused how we are listed as vulnerable and whether it’s the same as someone else with say a medical condition. Can’t keep up!

If I am working after 28 weeks I will be happy to continue but I’m lucky because it’s only me and sometimes one other person social distancing in there and I can work from home. The company legally has to risk assess for pregnant women, have they done this for you?

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 29/05/2020 21:50

@BntTowers oh I love a trip to the garden centre!
I was thinking of getting a support belt does it help a lot?

@Spark27 What is SPL? Oh your employers sound great with it all.

@LexiM I have heard places need to do a risk assessment but I don't really know what that means and includes etc so I don't think they've done one. I feel better knowing you feel ok working in 3rd trimester, if I need to I'm sure I'll be fine too x

BntTowers · 29/05/2020 22:02

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy I have found it helps reduce my backache when out for a walk a lot. I got the BabyGo one.

FourPlasticRings · 29/05/2020 22:10

They do have to risk assess, but from what I've read they don't have to write anything down unless they employ more than five people. Is your employer technically the larger company or the individual parents?

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 29/05/2020 22:20

@BntTowers I'll have a look, think I'm going to buy one

@FourPlasticRings technically it's the larger company, I'll give it a google! X
