Told wrong gender at ultrasound??

Has anyone ever been told boy and it turned out to be a girl? Or the other way around?

My 16 week ultrasound at window to the womb looks like a girl in some images but I was told boy. I know they are probably correct but feel like I can’t buy anything yet as it doesn’t look very ‘boyish’.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

The scan pictures look like a boy to me. I also went private with window to the womb at 16 weeks and they were right. Also having a boy. It was confirmed at my 20 week scan and I had another private scan this week...and it's still a boy.

BooMamaBear · 15/05/2020 23:49

The only way they can be 109% correct is if like me you have to have genetic testing coz then they know if baby has XX or XY chromosome -I understand most 20 weeks scans are correct tho so I'd wait fir that one first! Xx

FourPlasticRings · 16/05/2020 00:26

No one can be 109% correct at any time. The scale stops at 100%.

Just an update.... It’s a GIRL 😂🙈

Had 20 week scan today and she is 100% girl! I knew the 16 week scan didn’t look like a boy! I showed the ultrasound tec the images of ‘boy’ parts from 16 weeks and even she said it doesn’t look like a boy 🙈 I think I’ll ask window to the womb for a rescan just to be sure. Ridiculous that they do these gender scans day in day out and can get it wrong!

If you're that concerned buy a sneak peek test online! £80

Moomin8 · 28/05/2020 09:03

The NHS said boy and it was a girl but a private scan was never wrong.

missmouse101 · 28/05/2020 09:09

The sex of the baby really is best left until birth. Yes, we are ALL curious what we're going to have, but the day will come when you find out for definite.

Dyra · 28/05/2020 09:37

Definitely get a re-do at the private place! Definitely owed a discount at the very least if they were wrong.

Are you going to do a second virtual sex reveal now? :P

1forsorrow · 28/05/2020 09:43

I just don't know how I coped when I had mine 40 odd years ago and everyone just accepted you didn't know what you'd got till you got it.

MiniEggs234 · 28/05/2020 09:53

It's not at all ridiculous that they can get gender scans wrong. It's not a medical test where they get results back. It completely depends on the angle and position of the baby. They can't move the baby to get the perfect shot can they?! Also 16 weeks is generally considered to early - The nhs routinely do it between 18 and 21 weeks. So you having an early scan could easily be inaccurate.

mecabag · 28/05/2020 12:41

I could see for myself that my scan images didn’t look like a boy (hence why I posted on here) so of course it’s ridiculous that a trained professional who I paid to tell me the sex got it wrong! I obviously know it does happen and that no scan is 100% accurate but my scan didn’t look like a clear boy so they should have just told me they couldn't tell rather than guessing.

Anyway I’m off to buy the most offensively PINK baby clothing I can find 😂🎀

I wish people would RTFT!!

Congrats op!

riromay · 28/05/2020 19:28

Congrats!! I don't know why people are going on and on about comfort? I dressed my baby girl in onesies for most of her first year - a lot of it was pink, flowery, lovely and girly!!

Literally nothing wrong with it .. 💗

Fluffy20 · 09/09/2020 16:15

We have had 3 private scans and nhs 20w scan all say a boy still makes you think

BikeTyson · 09/09/2020 16:17

I know two sets of parents told the wrong sex. In both cases they’d been told it was a girl and the baby turned out to be a boy.

User3627290 · 09/09/2020 16:20

3rd picture looks like a boy to me, but I am NOT an expert!

I would ask again at 20 weeks. People do get it wrong, esp at 16 weeks, but it’s not very common.

GreyishDays · 09/09/2020 16:20

I had the same as you, but the other way round. Same dates. Basically 16 weeks is too early to be sure. Didn’t they tell you that?

User3627290 · 09/09/2020 16:21

Oh sorry - that will teach me not to read the thread! I hope you’ve reined in your offensively pink impulses a little since your last post Grin

ForeverBubblegum · 09/09/2020 16:47

My sister got told girl at her 20 week scan and got everything pink and frilly. She had a 3D scans towards the end of the pregnancy and the sonographer asked if she'd picked a name (just as small talk), she said the girl name she picked, and they told her that it didn't look like a (girl name).

ScottishStottie · 09/09/2020 16:56

@mecabag so have you had your baby girl and dressed her all in pink??

BiddyPop · 09/09/2020 19:21

What is wrong with a "surprise" on arrival and just having neutral colours in the hospital bag?

Hlflf · 09/06/2022 10:54

Well obv your not going to put a bright pink flowery baby grow on a boy! That’s ducking stupid !!!

MummyRR · 09/06/2022 11:02

I was told a boy at 14 weeks.
Blood test and 20 week ultrasound said girl!

blueboocat · 09/06/2022 11:12

At my 16 week scan I was told it was a boy. At 20 week scan they said it was a girl. It does happen. Oh and it was a girl.
