Told wrong gender at ultrasound??

Has anyone ever been told boy and it turned out to be a girl? Or the other way around?

My 16 week ultrasound at window to the womb looks like a girl in some images but I was told boy. I know they are probably correct but feel like I can’t buy anything yet as it doesn’t look very ‘boyish’.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

16 weeks is very early, and that’s when they’re likely to get it wrong. However they don’t usually get male predictions wrong. You could ask them to double check at 20 weeks. Congratulations x

Windyatthebeach · 13/05/2020 14:41

2 separate scans and sonographers said girl.
Ds arrived in all his (large Blush) glory..
Dd was distraught!!
He was the most content baby, slept through at 5 weeks. Joked it was compo for the confusion!!
Wasn't disappointed just very shocked!!
He is 16 now and still no bother!!

Fundays12 · 13/05/2020 14:41

I know someone who was told 3 times she was having a boy and had a girl. It’s rare but it happens. Ask of nub theory site the ladies are qualified and can tell normally.

loutypips · 13/05/2020 14:42

This is one of the reasons it's best to wait until they are born! I had to have loads of scans as I was high risk and baby was breech. At a couple of the scans before it was 'the baby' and afterwards the doctors kept saying he, so I assumed that it was a boy, also at the 20w scan they asked if I wanted to know, and I said no, just show me the area, and I was positive that I saw balls. When baby arrived she was a girl!

HoneyBee03 · 13/05/2020 14:46

Just wait until the baby is born.

RLOU30 · 13/05/2020 14:47

Yep I was told girl but paid private and was clearly a boy
I thinks it more common to be told girl and be boy than the other way round

Soubriquet · 13/05/2020 14:47

Yeah there’s a little nut sack there

It’s a boy Grin

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/05/2020 14:48

Those pictures look a lot like my boy’s scans and nothing like my two girls’ scans.

DivGirl · 13/05/2020 14:49

Just wait until your anomaly scan, then they'll be able to say with more certainty (they do get it wrong occasionally).

To me that looks like a boy though.

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/05/2020 14:50

Its not an exact science, it all depends on the position of the baby, the skill of the sonographer, position of cord etc. So while its nice to have the knowledge that its "likely" to be a particular sex, I would never rely on it. The only way to be 100% sure is genetic testing.

My friends in America had testing done at the earliest possible stage for no other reason than they wanted to know the sex, they knew before they were 12 weeks which seemed a bit overkill to me but apparently is perfectly normal over there. Just seems a shame that there will be no surprises. If I was having a baby now I wouldnt want to know the sex, that "Its a boy/girl!" moment after birth is just incredible.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/05/2020 14:52

(I don’t want all white or yellow clothing)

Can't you buy ducks and dinosaurs and cute light blue suits and sharks and, you know, cute stuff that's not white or yellow. Green, purple, orange, red...

mumma2be2020 · 13/05/2020 14:52

My little one is now 8 weeks old and during the day I still have times where I have to cuddle her to sleep or she just gets over tired. Her queue is she starts to rub her eyes!
I saw my dr the other day as she had her jabs and I questioned feeding. I got told after first 4 weeks you should never wake a baby for a feed. She said babies are designed to get enough milk to help them grow so if they're hungry they'll wake up! I was panicking as DD went 9 hours through the night from 6 weeks and I thought I should be waking her. Every one will tell you different things!

Hodge85 · 13/05/2020 14:52

I think that looks like a boy from what I can see although 16 weeks is still early to tell. However, I had a scan at 17 weeks and you could definitely see his little todger so no mistaking there and 20 week sonographer confirmed it was a boy although he's not here yet, 4 weeks to go until we know for sure :D

mumma2be2020 · 13/05/2020 14:53

Sorry somehow my post has ended up On the wrong thread Confused

Alychloe · 13/05/2020 14:53

@mecabag from the scans it definitely looks like a boy to me!

MitziK · 13/05/2020 14:55

I don’t want all white or yellow clothing

Then buy green, beige, grey, cream, baby blue, orange, black, purple, red and all the other colours. Get things with stripes, giraffes, dinosaurs, space rockets, puppies, kittens, lions, stars on them.

You'd think it was law that newborns had to wear just one colour. It really isn't.

Of course, I'd suggest that you wait until the 20 week anomaly test passes without heartbreaking news. And as a convenient afterthought (because it is not the purpose of the scan), you can then think about buying pink or bright blue stuff and things with Mummy's Little Angel and Just Like My Daddy on it, although you really don't need to for another 16-20 weeks.

Yoyoallovertheshow · 13/05/2020 14:56

Am i the only one who can't make out anything in the scans? 😳

mecabag · 13/05/2020 14:57

Ok well I feel better others are saying the images look boy 😅 I’ve looked at loads of images online and boys usually seem to more protruding like a turtle head and I’m just not seeing that.

I did a virtual gender reveal for family and friends so would hate for it to be wrong now!

holyguacamole1 · 13/05/2020 14:58

OP I didn't find out what either of mine were but I just want to let you know that you will get gifted clothing a lot so it is pointless buying loads now. And also my little girl looked AWFUL in pink..yellows and reds suited her best. And my boy always looked better in greens and greys so this whole "blue and pink"is a heap of commercialised shite!!

Footywife · 13/05/2020 15:18

It's waaaay to early to be stressing about it yet. Wait until your next scan when thinks are likely to be clearer.

How do you think people managed before scans?

Bleepers · 13/05/2020 15:22

I think it's more likely that youd be told it was a girl and turned out to be a boy than vice versa...

Serendipity79 · 13/05/2020 15:23

I went to Window to the Womb at 16+4 and they told me my son was a girl. NHS scan at 20 weeks put me right. They did however compensate me by giving me their largest package free of charge once they'd rescanned me themselves so they could see his "late developing winkle"

They did say that they had only ever got one other wrong

Ibelieveinyesterday · 13/05/2020 15:24

*Sex surely Hmm

And I cannot believe that fully grown, procreating adults are still bothered about putting babies in colours of clothing according to their sex Confused

Also, I quite fancy being a sonographer. Who knew it was as easy as looking at scans and taking a wild guess!? Grin

SandysMam · 13/05/2020 15:33

That is definitely a boy, can see a little nutsack! Congrats on your boy OP, hope the 20 week scan shows everything is developing well and normally.
