Pregnancy announcement weird or ?

I’ve been told my pregnancy announcement was weird by a family member 🤨
For my mother in law and my mom we put a pregnancy test taped inside a card and said to nanny so and so.
A family member found out and on FaceTime this morning laughed and said it was odd. Was it? Or should I just laugh it off?

Yeah I find it odd. Slight ocd tho and if I'd been given someone else's pee on a stick and unprepared for it I'd be freaked out. After a few days the colour sort of runs in them anyway? What's wrong with a phone call

Lynda07 · 28/04/2020 04:26

Very odd indeed. Why couldn't you just tell them?

MoonlitCastle · 28/04/2020 04:40

Very weird... I understand handing your test stick to DH to share the excitement when you first found out... but to then get extras and pee on them to send to others is... weird!

@RachelSmith16 I find MN is full of people who can't give constructive criticism without getting nasty. It's like they have the opinion it's their way or nothing. Anything that goes against their opinion must be wrong and they feel the need to get nasty to defend their ever so right way of seeing things. It's literally a constant factor on here. Strange because I find in the group I'm in on other social media platforms where you can put a face to the nasty comments people tend to be a lot nicer and polite.

As others have said OP, would I do it myself? Personally no. Is it a bit strange. Maybe but depends on your relationship with MIL/mum. But then some some cranks on here seem to think anything further than a text message or phone call is "cringe worthy" so each to their own. You'll look back and laugh on it eventually. There's a lot more stuff you could label as embarrassing coming down the line with kids so take it as practice x

Yeah putting a pee stick in a card is weird.

I don't see the point of announcements. Why not just tell them? We just told people

Dyrne · 28/04/2020 09:00

... and we’ve now reached the point in the programme where of course wanting to do anything cute or memorable for your baby is a waste of time.

Anything other than casually dropping into conversation “oh I gave birth last week, just FYI” is ridiculously over the top and cannot be tolerated.

RachelSmith16 · 28/04/2020 09:03

@FirstTimeBumps Exactly. Couldn't believe what I was actually reading. In the grand scheme of pregnancy, labour, parenthood there's much more oddness to go go around. So when did staying polite despite that just go out the window?

RachelSmith16 · 28/04/2020 09:05

@Dyrne Hahaha!

When I was a child I prepared a box filled with household essentials, included some toilet cleaners (those plastic thingy that goes inside the toilet to clean when you flush). That was a birthday present for my mum!
Back then, in a context we didn't have much money and I wanted to spend some of MY money for something practical my mum couldn't afford...it made sense in my head.
But now and out of context I have no idea what I was thinking!!

MarieQueenofScots · 28/04/2020 09:31

After a few days the colour sort of runs in them anyway?

I've still got my positive tests. The oldest test is 14 years old; the colour hasn't run and they're just internet cheapies.

PrinnyPree · 28/04/2020 14:47

I think its funny OP and would take your announcement in good spirit and a bit of fun. Surprised at the amount of people clutching their pearls about it on here. Grin
