Pregnancy announcement weird or ?

I’ve been told my pregnancy announcement was weird by a family member 🤨
For my mother in law and my mom we put a pregnancy test taped inside a card and said to nanny so and so.
A family member found out and on FaceTime this morning laughed and said it was odd. Was it? Or should I just laugh it off?

Grin

I mean come on that is a bit gross OP.

majesticallyawkward · 27/04/2020 18:43

Why did you even think of that??!! You sent them your piss.

Sending a card is odd enough, but a pee stick is too much.

littleduckeggblue · 27/04/2020 18:43

Really weird yes

Elouera · 27/04/2020 18:43

Out of interest, where did you get the idea? Did you google baby announcements and that seriously came up as an option?

TheThingWithFeathers · 27/04/2020 18:44

That's really weird, whether you peed on the stick or not.

Wotsits4357542 · 27/04/2020 18:45

Well it’s done now can’t take it back.
It was done before the pandemic outbreak btw.
I literally stuck celotape over the whole thing.
Just thought it would be nice way to announce 🤷🏻‍♀️
I’ll think of another way next time for sure lol

You had good intentions and I wouldn't get upset about it, just hold your hands up and say you didn't quite think that one through and laugh it off. Clearly you didn't consider the whole pee thing! Congratulations!

katie43210 · 27/04/2020 18:47

You had good intentions and it is lovely news, especially right now. Maybe wouldn't have sent a used pregnancy test but it's done now. Congratulations 😊

Nixen · 27/04/2020 18:47

Yep that’s very weird. If someone gave me a peed on stick I’d be pretty upset

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/04/2020 18:47

We used our 12 weeks scan pic and made a card with it using Moonpig I think. It was sweet and MIL had it framed. Somehow I don’t think she’d heave framed my First Response stick but you nd we know!! (She was excited 🤭).

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/04/2020 18:48

*never know

mooching · 27/04/2020 18:52

Very weird but exciting news - congratulations

Bluetrews25 · 27/04/2020 19:15

Well I think it's nice! Don't they all have caps to put on the peed on end now? And I'm sure it will have dried before being sent out!
You're all a bit squeamish! Or I'm a weirdo!

unfortunateevents · 27/04/2020 19:16

Ugh. If someone sent that to me as a pregnancy announcement I would think it was both show-offy and unhygenic.

Staticelle · 27/04/2020 19:17

It is a bit grim if you look at it without emotion ie rather than it being an exciting life changing piece of paper, it being your urine on it. But the thought was sweet, and I cannot imagine it caused them any harm!

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 27/04/2020 20:34

It’s such a strange concept to send someone a receptacle of bodily fluids to announce good news Grin

Extrapolating it to all baby related news

Sending a spermy sex towel to announce you’re TTC

Sending a cup of your waters to announce you’re in labour.

Sending some uterus blood to announce the child has been born

Sending a dirty nappy to announce the child’s first poo.

Grin it’s just bonkers really. There are nice ways to announce a pregnancy.

Mucklowe · 27/04/2020 20:49

Bleurgh! That is honestly vile.

RachelSmith16 · 27/04/2020 23:06

Ok. Why doesn't everyone just calm the F* down?! OP didnt pee in a pot and poor it on some stranger.

She taped over a stick that universally signifies pregnancy, which would have contained tiny trace amounts of dried urine. Then handed that to family. Who can choose whether or not to actually handle (doesnt even sound like that's possible though) it or just dispose. Also useful to note one of those being her own mother who I'm sure handled her pee MANY times as a baby.

Perhaps it's not what ya'll would have done personally. But to label someone as 'gross' and 'werid' and all the other derogatory terms I've seen in this thread is just mean.

There is such a thing as constructive criticism and then just beating someone down.

Reign it in ladies and be kinder.

RachelSmith16 · 27/04/2020 23:09

P.s Congratulations OP. I hope your family are happy about the news!

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 27/04/2020 23:14

Ok for starters, no-one is at level of excitement that they need do clam down from. Except maybe you, Rachel.

Secondly,

But to label someone as 'gross' and 'werid' and all the other derogatory terms I've seen in this thread is just mean.

Read the thread title. And then the OP. She literally asks for feedback on whether it was weird or odd.

Also, you're allowed to swear on here. And it’s rein.

WilheldivaHater · 27/04/2020 23:18

Yeah I do have to agree with your family member, it is weird.

I assume you were just excited and there's really no harm done, but I think when you look at it as an outsider... very odd, but in a funny way.

I'm assuming you had to go out and buy pregnancy tests to use for this as well, which has given me a little chuckle imagining someone shaking the wee off, popping on the cap, standing back proudly and saying "right, that ones for grandma" xxx

SquirtleSquad · 27/04/2020 23:18

@RachelSmith16 calm the F down? Reign it in? Did you not read the part where she taped a used pregnancy test to a card and gifted it to her MIL/DM?!
That's fucking hilarious.

notangelinajolie · 27/04/2020 23:20

Yes, weird. Especially if you pissed on it.

SquirtleSquad · 27/04/2020 23:20

I hope this is something you can all look back on and laugh at together.

Bumfuzzled · 27/04/2020 23:25

GrinGrinGrin yeah that’s a bit weird!
