Tall parents... big baby?

Hello! I need some help, pregnant with my first, I’m 5ft10 and dad is 6ft3

I’m trying to work out how many of each size baby grows to get. I don’t want to go mad on newborn and 0-1 month if I’m going to have a baby that will be too big for them!

I wonder if there’s any tall girls out there who have had a baby already and offer some experience?

Thanks 😊 I’ll probably just end up buying cheaper small stuff in the end x

If its your first you'll get a ton of clothes. Buy one special thing, a few more.

NopeNotToday5 · 02/04/2020 21:32

I'm 5ft10 my partner is 6ft.
Our boy was born 8lb 8 very long with huge feet. I put him in 0-3 month clothes, the smaller sizers were too small in length. Hes now a big lad at 20months old and just over 35 inches and around 34lbs.

NoParticularPattern · 02/04/2020 21:34

I am 6ft 1 and my husband is 6ft 2. Our babies were both quite long (and still are) and over 8.5lb. They both seem to outgrow stuff length wise before they do width wise. Mine both went into 0-3 from the word go. I could probably have got away with up to 1 month for a few weeks but not for much longer as they were both so long.

SallyLovesCheese · 02/04/2020 21:39

My DS and BIL are both 6' and their DD was in newborn clothes at full term.

Jesskir89 · 02/04/2020 21:41

I'm 5ft 5 but dh is 6ft 5 and our baby was 49cm long and weighed 6lb 11oz. He's 3 weeks old tomorrow and in first size although not for much longer. You can't predict it

croberts1208 · 02/04/2020 21:42

Buy newborn from both Tesco (small in size) and Sainsbury's (big in size) then you'll be covered. I think you need 2 babygrows for everyday. White is the easiest colour and baby will look beautiful in it.

Gammeldragz · 02/04/2020 21:44

I'm 5'10" and mine were 8,1 8,15 and 9,5

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 02/04/2020 21:45

Same height as us and neither children were big or long. In fact I was quite worried about DS1 being short as a toddler! He's made up for it since!

Rainbowchampagne · 02/04/2020 21:47

I’m 5”10 and by no means slim. I scraped by GD by 0.1 and kept being told my baby would be big, she was 5lb 9! I have no idea how, I had such a sugar addiction during pregnancy! I only had 0-3 months, didn’t even bother with newborn and I ended up having to buy tiny baby bits.

In the current situation where you can’t just run out and buy stuff easily I would get a few newborn bits just in case you have a situation like mine!

Aria2015 · 02/04/2020 21:48

I'm 5.9' and dh is 6.2' and lo was 7lbs and average length (although tall for his age now).

doadeer · 02/04/2020 21:51

Yes I am 5ft 8 ish and DH is 6ft 4

Our son was extremely long, over the 99th percentile and at 12m he was still the same. He has such long legs we had to cut the toes out of his baby grows all the time. He was 9lbs 4 so I never bothered with anything smaller than 0-3 to be honest

Ohhgreat · 02/04/2020 21:51

If you're worried about a long baby (quite likely in your case!) then buy a few top and bottom sets. Length doesn't cause so much of an issue with them!

BikeRunSki · 02/04/2020 21:52

I’m 5’8, DH is 6’2”. DS has been at least 91st centile for height since he was born (now 11). He was 60cm long at birth, but still wore “new baby” size clothes for the first month or so.

SephrinaX · 02/04/2020 21:53

I'm 5'11" and my husband is 6ft. Both are boys are tall, with large feet.
My youngest was barely in 0-1 month stuff I think only really in the hospital. He's 10 weeks now and 3-6month stuff just about still fits him.
I stuck to buying baby grows without built in feet or just got for separate long sleeve bodysuits with leggings and socks.

Tsiagisel · 02/04/2020 21:54

I’m 6ft3 and partner is 6tf1. Our son was 7lbs10, quite long, we had about 4 newborn babygrows we had been bought which he wore for about 2 weeks, then straight into 0-3s. We’ve found Asda’s stuff is generously sized, followed by Next. TU from Sainsbury’s are a bit smaller and Primark are the smallest, so size up in there. Do you tumble dry? If so size up as the tumbler shrinks stuff a bit.

Also, if you’re having a boy, we found we were going through a vest per wee whilst his umbilical cord clip was on as it stopped nappies from fitting properly, so maybe some extra 0-3 vests might come in handy?

Mummyfeels · 02/04/2020 21:56

The midwife should be able to tell whether it is a tall baby by feeling how the baby is positioned, my midwife could feel My DS’s long legs at my check ups and damn she was right. 0-3 was perfect for the first few weeks.

moveandmove · 02/04/2020 21:57

I'm only 5ft 4 but ds's dad is 6ft 3 and ds was 8lb 8oz at birth. He's always been on the top of the percentiles for height.

RandomMess · 02/04/2020 21:57

Me 5' DH 6'3", DD 10lb 6oz and very very long went straight into 0-3 month sleepsuits. Didn't have anything that fit in hospital with me...

Even on her scans she has very long femurs but they kept telling me I wasn't having a big baby Hmm

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 02/04/2020 22:00

Im 5'9" my husband us 6'1", our first was 11lbs 10ozs, 2nd was 8lbs10ozs. Ive mostly put the weight difference between my two down to my diet whilst pregnant, lots of convenience food with my first, couldn't afford it with my second!!

BubblesBuddy · 02/04/2020 22:00

Can you still buy Harringtons night dresses/shirts? Doesn’t matter what length the baby is with them for a couple of months. Easy nappy change too!

worldweary45 · 02/04/2020 22:02

I'm 6ft, as is my children's dad

Both mine were long -with number 1 I had some newborn stuff but only lasted a week

Number 2 I stuck to footless all in ones or separates -always grew out of clothes length wise rather than width wise

ChesterDraw · 02/04/2020 22:02

I'm just over 6ft and my husband is 6,6. Both ours were born at term and were small babies at around 6.5 and 7lb, both average height up until my eldest started school and then shot up! We always found Morrisons Nutmeg clothes very roomy in general.

WoollyFoolly · 02/04/2020 22:04

We are both tall and had two smallish babies (both 7lb and a couple of oz). Then had a whopper who was 9.5 lbs! There's really no telling. My sister and BIL are both very short and she had whopper babies - over 10lb. Don't buy much of anything, you'll get given loads and they outgrow anything really fast.

coffeeagogo · 02/04/2020 22:07

6’1 and husband is 6’4 both 2DDs were not that heavy but very long! (8’13 and 9’2) filled 1 month old baby grows length-wise when born
My 10 year old is now 5’5 and just stretching daily

mnahmnah · 02/04/2020 22:08

I’m 5’8, husband is 6’3. Our second baby was 10lb 11oz. He wasn’t chubby, just solid and long. We took newborn size clothes and we couldn’t get him in them! I would take size 0-3 months personally.
