Another new thread for the Nov mums to continue our discussion!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SqidgeBum · 05/04/2020 11:23

With regards to those mum to be packs, they are just leaflets and a few samples. I am pretty sure I just chucked mine last time. We are definitely not missing much not getting one.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 05/04/2020 11:30

@Addler that’s great news, I’m so glad Smile

Fredthespider · 05/04/2020 11:41

@Addler I'm so thrilled for you! That ties in with your previous scan last week so it's looking like a great progression :)

@Snowwhite2020 ah yes, the bath! That was what caused me to throw up for the first time in my first pregnancy. It took me a while to discover that if I got too hungry or too hot that would make me feel worse. Also the pregnancy vitamins that they say to take with a main meal make me feel sick. This time around I'm eating a little bit allllll the time which is helping.

Talcott2007 · 05/04/2020 11:53

Is the fb group private? Would like to join too? Although we have shared with immediately family we are not quite ready for the news to be fb public. Currently only 9w and don't think we put anything on fb until after the 20w scan with DD

futuredreams · 05/04/2020 11:54

Hi all. I went for an early scan yesterday which was arranged over three weeks ago. I'm now 9+3 today. I was having an early scan as I've had recurrent miscarriage and I booked this one because it would only be 3 week to my 12 week scan so I wouldn't worry as much. Well at the scan they told me all scans are now 14 weeks. Meaning I have to wait another 5 weeks for my next one. They didn't even offer why this was being done. Where I live they don't actually offer the harmony test people were talking about as routine. I also wasn't allowed to take a video of the scan for my husband. And was told I wouldn't be able to at my 14 scan either for my husband. They obviously have their reasons but I honestly feel a bit let down by it all. After my recurrent miscarriage appointment I was promised weekly reassurance scans and help. This isn't now available. I do understand why but it still feels very isolating. Private scans also do not allow husbands in but I might now have to book one of these because the thought of waiting another 5 weeks is going to be so hard. Has anyone else been told their booking scan is being moved out?

canueve · 05/04/2020 11:56

@Addler so very happy for you xx

burntpinky · 05/04/2020 12:01

@Addler great news!

canueve · 05/04/2020 12:05

@futuredreams I do agree it's very unfair how they are treating pregnant women. We should be getting the same if not more care. I am sure hospitals are busy with CV but at least allow private clinics to keep open.

I am in Hampshire and so far for me, I feel I am getting the care I need,.

I went to window to the womb and they are allowing one person to come along. I will probably have a few extra scans apart from my 2 NHS one but have already been told by my midwide my husband is not allowed on the 12 week one (unless something changes by then). If there is one relatively close to you i'd book it.
I had to travel to Reading but tbh I'd rather do it than be worrying for no reason.

SqidgeBum · 05/04/2020 12:19

I agree the care for pregnant women seems to have dropped. So far my midwife hadn't said anything about the 12 week scan changing date, but I have been told DH cant come. He wouldn't have been able to anyway as there is nobody to mind DD.

I cant see a reason why they wouldn't let you record even just a bit of it for DH.

I am trying not to worry about the lack of scans etc. Even if they did scan and saw an issue, there is nothing anyone can do. There is basically nothing medical that will be done before 20 weeks, so the scans hold very little medical weight. Its lovely to know things are going well, but I guess in the times we are in they arent prioritising things that are lovely.

I keep trying to stay calm and say things just are the way they are, and there is nothing I can do, so I just have to wait and see how things turn out. Women birthed babies for centuries without reassurance scans. I just keep focusing on the idea that once that baby arrives in november (fingers crossed) none of this will matter at all.

ACatCalledLola · 05/04/2020 12:30

It seems to really vary by area. All my scans are going ahead-12, 20 and 36 weeks and I may get another at 28-30 as I’m high risk. I saw a midwife last week. She did most of my booking over the phone but had me in for bloods and to ask the sensitive questions that she said can’t be asked over the phone in case someone is listening. My 16 week appointment is over the phone so I do think with phone appointments there’s a risk of things being missed if blood pressure and urine aren’t being done but it’s still very early days and things may change for the better by the time we’re further along.
@Talcott2007 yes completely secret so you can’t even search for it and no one can see you’re a member. I haven’t even told family yet.

WindowOrchid · 05/04/2020 12:50

Can I join please? Around 6+5

Feeling very uncertain at the moment, a really wanted second child but I think we'd be waiting now

If pregnancy continues ok we have booking appointment end of the month. Will the midwife book twelve week scan after booking appointment or will I hear from the hospital about it in the meantime? I've registered pregnancy with them.

I know it's important for everyone but for various reasons am really keen to know scan will be in right window (11-13 weeks). That is if the pregnancy continues, I know it's still early

Pink15 · 05/04/2020 12:57

@Addler congratulations what wonderful news!

My midwife told me the 12 week scan would be between 12-14 weeks and I spoke to her when I was less than 4 weeks before this coronavirus kicked off properly so I think perhaps all the scans with coronavirus or not can be go to 14 weeks.

Please try not to worry ladies though as lovely as scans are there is actually not much medically that we need at the moment at this stage in our pregnancy. The midwives are probably prioritising 3rd trimester mothers which we will appreciate when we get there!

WindowOrchid · 05/04/2020 12:58

The window for 12 week scan is important for nuchal translucency - too late and it can't be measured

Pink15 · 05/04/2020 13:06

Maybe at booking if they consent you for that test then they try get you at 12 weeks?

Pink15 · 05/04/2020 13:07

Also if they can't measure NT looks like they do some extra blood tests.

WindowOrchid · 05/04/2020 13:12

It's a tricky one - NT is an indicator for other problems (not just chromosomal) and blood tests wouldn't always be relevant. After past history our consultant has told us to make sure it's checked

I'm trying to find a private one for that time in case NHS is unavailable

Talcott2007 · 05/04/2020 13:16

Thanks @ACatCalledLola - how do I John the fb group?

Talcott2007 · 05/04/2020 13:16

*join obviously!

Pink15 · 05/04/2020 13:18

@WindowOrchid fair enough - if your consultant wants it then you should be a priority!

Wise0wl · 05/04/2020 13:22

So so pleased for you @Addler!

Can I ask a question? Do you all know the date of your booking in appt and your first scan? I’m 8+1 and had my booking in appt date for 9+5 but haven’t heard anything about my scan. Just wondered if that’s normal...

Fredthespider · 05/04/2020 13:24

I'm feeling very grateful that so far our trust is making exceptions for the 12 week scan and that one adult can come along. I still have another 6 weeks to go until that so things might change but I'm hoping not. My guidance says that the scan needs to be between 11+2 and 14+1 for them to do all the screening tests.

Timing wise my booking appointment is on the phone when I'll be 10+2 which is later than they normally do. I contacted them in Feb when I was pregnant last time and I had an appointment for what would have been 8+6 weeks so in the space of 6 weeks they're now booking over a week later.

bluebell94 · 05/04/2020 13:26

@Wise0wl my midwife booked my scan for me during my booking appointment Smile

Fredthespider · 05/04/2020 13:27

@Wise0wl Last pregnancy I got my scan appointment letter a few days to a week after my booking appointment and I think it was for about 2 weeks after that. This time around I have my booking appointment, but haven't heard anything about a scan.

SqidgeBum · 05/04/2020 13:36

I had my booking appt on the phone at 7+5. I have my bloods appt next tuesday. I will be 9+3. I havent heard anything about when my scan will be yet.

Sakura54 · 05/04/2020 13:38

@Wise0wl my letters for booking and scan came at the same time. I will be nearly 13 weeks when I have the scan. I have 6 appts booked for me altogether.
