I'm 4+3, anyone already got booking in appointment? I'm scared to book one yet as I booked my last one at this stage and then lost the baby and had all the faff of ringing and cancelling etc:/

ParisInTheSpringtime · 02/03/2020 09:57

@Whoamieven I have filled in an online form for my closest midwife unit so waiting to hear from them. Not sure if I should phone as well. I like having things organised so hate this feeling of it being out of my control.

SqidgeBum · 02/03/2020 10:01

@ParisInTheSpringtime & @Whoamieven I just rang my local GP (UK) and was told to come into the surgery to pick up a pack and fill it out. I have to then drop it back and a midwife will be in contact in due course. I dont remember having to do that for my last one even though it was only 2 years ago. I dont think my first midwife appt will be until I am 8-10 weeks. I remember it feeling like an age last time until someone medical acknowledged I was actually pregnant.

GB88 · 02/03/2020 10:26

I just got through to my local gp surgery, the line was busy all morning, i surprisingly got an appointment for wednesday, i just asked for a doctors appointment and I never mentioned positive pregnancy test, should i of said?. I havent had much symptoms just mild cramping most days

Ann87 · 02/03/2020 10:28

Just spoke to the midwife she took all my info and is sending me out a pack with booking appointment x doctors said there was no need for a appointment with them just go straight to the midwife x

SqidgeBum · 02/03/2020 10:34

@GB88 I think you need an appointment with the midwife rather than a doc, and up until 8 weeks there isnt really any reason to go for an appointment once you are healthy and have no medical issues that may complicate a pregnancy. It's difficult waiting for that long when you want some reassurance that everything is ok, but all they can do is say 'yes you are pregnant. Come back in 4 weeks'

ParisInTheSpringtime · 02/03/2020 10:36

Another question...I am meant to be going on (what was going to be) a boozy weekend with friends this weekend. They will definitely guess if I’m not drinking, as I’m usually quite a big drinker. Would you cancel? I am considering just saying I’m poorly, although I do want to see my pals and would definitely have a good time whether drinking or not.

Sakura54 · 02/03/2020 10:38

I have a GP appointment tomorrow. Last time I was pregnant, they sent a urine sample off to get tested. 2 months before that when I wasn’t pregnant (just late AF) they sent a sample off too lol. So let’s see what this other doctor says.

I also need a face-to-face appt as I’m planning to request for all my antenatal care and hospital to be in my parents’ area. That way I don’t have to stress about dragging DS to all these appts and travelling with him! Will be telling my parents and siblings next time I visit lol.

All of you with no family around to help..you are so brave and strong!

Whoamieven · 02/03/2020 10:39

@GB88 if you have existing conditions/ on medication then good to see your GP, but other then that you won't need that GP app, I'd call back and cancel and ask how you get your 'booking appointment' with a midwife

LynseyLou1982 · 02/03/2020 10:59

@Whoamieven thank you, I realised after I'd posted that I'd got it wrong. Re-calculated based on when I think we conceived and that makes my due date 6th November. I haven't got many symptoms and it's making me nervous. Just intermittent nausea, bloating and wind. No sore boobs yet and I had really sore boobs the first time. It's such an anxious time. I've just booked my midwife appointment for the 26th but it feels ages away. 3 weeks to midwife and 5 weeks to the private scan. I hate the waiting.

GB88 · 02/03/2020 11:05

@Whoamieven @SqidgeBum Thanks Smile i rang back and cancelled, i have to go online an fill in a form online, if i dont hear back before 11/12 weeks to ring surgery.

Anon87 · 02/03/2020 11:13

Rang my docs and receptionist booked me in with the midwife who runs their antenatal and baby clinics there. So next week is the real start.

DP's going to tell his friends (for a few free pints) when he goes out on Saturday. He's umming and ahhing about telling them but they're trustworthy and not gossipy and he should have people to speak to when I have all you lot and more through any forum x

wafflewafflewaffle · 02/03/2020 11:13

@LynseyLou1982 my son has also just turned 2! Were you in the Feb 2018 babies group when you were pregnant last time?

@carrot88 yes clumsiness is definitely a symptom! I can remember having a total meltdown at one point when I was pregnant with my DS because I was draining a pot of pasta and somehow managed to tip it all into the sink...I was sooo hungry too!

Still no real symptoms here, I keep squeezing my boobs to see if they’re getting sore yet (have to keep reminding myself not to do it in public Grin). Will call my GP later this week to self refer to midwife...though I seem to remember last time I had to give a urine sample in to confirm my pregnancy, which seems a bit pointless given that they just do the same kind of test which I’ve already done a thousand times at home.

wafflewafflewaffle · 02/03/2020 11:16

@ParisInTheSpringtime I’m in a similar situation as I’m going on a hen weekend this weekend, I’m a bridesmaids so can’t really get out of it! I’m going to say I’m on antibiotics for a dental infection (apparently the kind which genuinely is incompatible with alcohol is often prescribed by dentists). However I suspect some people will guess anyway, but hopefully won’t ask outright if I’ve already given a reason!

Whoamieven · 02/03/2020 11:36

@wafflewafflewaffle @ParisInTheSpringtime

It's so hard when you're out! When people say 'oh god you're not pregnant are you!?' Etc. I always laugh and say 'ha no yet, we're thinking of trying soon though, so prob best if I stop drinking gin every day lol' or similar!!

It stops them guessing and takes away that awkward feeling that I'm totally lying by denying it. Seems to take the edge of the convo!

LynseyLou1982 · 02/03/2020 11:39

@wafflewafflewaffle Yes I was in a group last time but I can't remember the exact name. I think it was Babies Due Feb/March 2018

Whoamieven · 02/03/2020 13:20

@LynseyLou1982 same due date as me:)
I filled in form for midwife today, GP receptionist tried to give me my notes, I said no. That's too early for me to have them at home.

I'm thinking of early scan but we can't really afford one this time. But so nervous. 5 weeks ago I was mid miscarriage so I don't believe this one will be ok!

ParisInTheSpringtime · 02/03/2020 13:49

@wafflewafflewaffle @Whoamieven I will never get away with saying I’m on antibiotics... I think it might be easier to cancel but that’s really rubbish of me. I’m not sure I’m capable of making half a glass of Prosecco last a whole bottomless brunch Confused

LynseyLou1982 · 02/03/2020 13:53

@Whoamieven These early weeks are awful, I think I had forgotten the fear factor. I really hope everything goes well for you this time. I'm just too anxious to wait till 12 weeks. I think the NHS should offer an early scan as well but I guess there's not the resources to do it unless they think you really need it. We're considering paying for a private NIPT test as well. I think that I'm a bit paranoid that because I'm an older mum there'll be something wrong.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 02/03/2020 13:57

What is the earliest date for an early scan?

EssentialHummus · 02/03/2020 13:59

My group of friends is all mums with one/two DC already... there's no hiding it, no one falls for "antibiotics". I sometimes just have tonic water and pretend it's a G&T or similar but TBH at our (my) stage of life no one would be surprised by my pregnancy, so I'm increasingly just sticking to soft drinks and not worrying what people think.

SqidgeBum · 02/03/2020 14:12

@EssentialHummus I am similar. I am 28, have always said I wanted two kids, and I if I am anything like I was on DC1 everyone will know I am pregnant before week 12 as I was just so sick but kept having to repeat, for 8 solid weeks, 'it's ok. You wont get sick from me'. My entire staff room knew. All my students had guessed. I kind of don't care if they guess. I wont be saying anything, but people will probably know themselves.

novicettc · 02/03/2020 14:22

We're all in the same boat I know but I am so nervous about getting through the next few weeks before we hit the big 12. I currently 4 weeks+5 (or +6 depending on which app I use...) 1st pregnancy so just so new to all of this! Only found out last week and have already have two occasions (and another one this coming weekend) where I had to lie about not drinking...Friends/family will be getting suspicious in no time and I'm so excited to share the news but want to wait as long as possible so we have more certainty Smile

BeMorePacific · 02/03/2020 14:25

I am due November 6th, with my 2nd baby. I’m hoping for a VBAC (anyone else?)
I’m also a student midwife.. currently on placement on labour ward 😂🙈

Anon87 · 02/03/2020 14:32

@BeMorePacific I'm hoping for VBAC too but what will be will be 🤷🏻‍♀️
