@professorastrocat - I said I'd set up a graduates group I'm tentatively on here though coz if the test at 11 is bad news I'll be back on a bus! Everything so far seems ok as the test this morning says 3 + weeks got the midwife appt tomorrow xx

Yeah they do know I have made it clear to the community midwife I spoke to (to be fair I will be 10w6 by LMP so not quite 11w) although based on the scan I'm measuring behind so could actually be 10w1 when the appointment roles around. My booking bloods are next weekend though so results will be back by the time the appointment comes through

BooMamaBear · 23/03/2020 14:38

We got another Graduate from the Feb bus congrats @Heypij xx

Hi all, sorry for the radio silence. Been really struggling with morning sickness, and this covid situation has made my job super stressful.

I’m exactly ten weeks today. Still have that horrible taste in my mouth but sickness wise feeling better. I have had my booking in appointment changed to be over the phone though, which really concerns me. Don’t they do a blood test at the booking in appointment? When I asked about it they said they would sort it later, but as it’s for Down syndrome I do want to have it sooner rather than later.

@BooMamaBear am I right in thinking you need a specific sex in order to avoid passing on a condition? Good luck with the test. How quickly will you get your results?

I’m sat eating my Mother’s Day chocs while my toddler watches TV. Not my best parenting at the moment!

professorastrocat · 23/03/2020 18:26

Hey @Needallthesleep sorry to hear things are stressy. It's been a crazy week. And that sounds perfectly acceptable parenting in the circumstances!

I had my booking apt this morning in person and they took bloods tested wee etc but it's all for things they can test at a later point but obviously it's better to do it throughout. The downs test is done at the first scan for those that want it. I was told my next midwife apt would be by phone.

I'm also going to be consultant-led presumably towards the end and will have more scans than usual due to the reasons why I had to be induced last time.

Hhdxx · 23/03/2020 18:35

@Talcott2007 what's anterior or posterior placement? Sorry I'm new to all this haha.

I've got my first antenatal appointment tomorrow... Excited and nervous at the same time xx

calimommy · 23/03/2020 18:35

I'm in the states so I'll have the harmony test done at 8weeks. Results take about two weeks. It tests for a multitude of things and also tests for presence of a Y-chromosome (if there isn't a Y present then you know it's a girl). I have 3 boys so I'm assuming it's another boy 😜. They will also do a scan at that point. Then I'll be back for a 12 weeks scan. Everything is private here so it's slightly different. Fingers crossed I get that far! X

calimommy · 23/03/2020 18:37

My first two were gender-surprises at birth and the last guy we found out 😂

Hhdxx · 24/03/2020 08:50

My midwife has just cancelled my appointment and they're not doing anything till my 12 week scan 😭😭😥😥 no bloods or anything. Has anyone else had this

professorastrocat · 24/03/2020 09:13

Sorry @Hhdxx I'm surprised they haven't offered by phone - you'll maybe hear further about that. They may take your bloods at the scan? It's all Unknowns for everyone.

Bumblebee413 · 24/03/2020 09:19

No, but don't worry @Hhdxx, there's nothing that actually needs doing. They don't check the heartbeat or anything at booking. It's an information gathering and sharing session, but it is an exciting one so I'm so sorry for you. You can get all the information they'll give you on the nhs website about foods to avoid etc and you can read about the tests they'll offer you on the nhs antenatal screening website.

The bloods are to screen for HIV, Hep B, Rubella antibodies and Syphilis. None of which they routinely expect to be unusual but to make sure that you receive treatment if they are. The other bloods they take are to find out what blood group you are and yo check your iron levels, which, if you're taking vitamins, should be fine. So there's no real urgency for the booking appt, there are government targets that they should book everyone in by a certain point. I am sorry though, what a disappointment! X

sparkler07 · 24/03/2020 09:32

@Hhdxx. Oh no that's not good. Mines tommorrow if it doesn't get cancelled. It was meant to be at a Family Hub but was changed to the maternity unit at the hospital. X

sparkler07 · 24/03/2020 09:34

I'm really struggling . Dont know if its everything thats happening or pregnancy but i have lost my appetite which is not like me and keep throwing up. Xx

sparkler07 · 24/03/2020 09:38

Saw another thread about others saying no partners to scans . I'm going to ask the policy 2moro as mines meant to be in 4 weeks but if not I will book a private as soon as we can. X

professorastrocat · 24/03/2020 10:15

I don't know what the policy is @sparkler07 at the moment. I will be going to mine alone though as my partner will have to stay home with our son 😢

professorastrocat · 24/03/2020 10:16

Sorry to hear you're struggling though. It's crazy times at the moment not to mention all our symptoms and hormones. I'm very up and down.

Talcott2007 · 24/03/2020 11:23

@Hhdxx in answer to your question -anterior vs. posterior placenta just means if the placenta is attached at the front or the back of your womb eg. Basically if its at the anterior your baby with be 'behind it'. I had this last time but neither type are a problem but having a anterior/front placenta means that you may not feel movements as soon as others do because the placenta is in the way iwswim.

Talcott2007 · 24/03/2020 11:27

I'm not sure the official policy in my NHS Trust but I'm going to be going to scans alone too - same as you @professorastrocat DH is going to most likely need to stay with DD. It's a tough situation all around

calimommy · 24/03/2020 14:18

I always go to scans alone tbh, DH can rarely make the appointments. He does try to get to the anomaly scans though.

Hhdxx · 24/03/2020 14:52

I've just been told that I will have to go by myself for the scan . We've waited sooooo long for this baby and it's our first. I feel really down about it all x

calimommy · 24/03/2020 15:07

@Hhdxx that's understandable. Take your phone and record the scan as it takes place. X

I was really struggling with the new normal but I've decided to think of it like a war, that we are in a war. So everything is different and what we considered normal before is gone for now.

calimommy · 24/03/2020 15:11

Posted too soon.

Anyway if it is a war, then it's not a bad war. We are safe in our homes, I'm not worried about someone knocking on the door and dragging DH away, or my children. I'm not worried about a bomb being dropped on my house. Etc. So in that context it becomes much more acceptable. But we need to make dramatic changes for a little while. Imagine if partners were allowed and an infected partner put you at risk? Hopefully
In a few months this will cool off and then your partner can attend as normal. X

Hhdxx · 24/03/2020 15:22

@calimommy thank you. It is true, we are lucky.
My husband is still having to go to work as he's classed as a key worker and can't work from home. So annoying so just home alone all day.

On a positive note, I've got such a bad craving for lemonade 😂😂😂😂 I never drink this. What is happening 😂😂😂

professorastrocat · 25/03/2020 14:36

How's everyone doing today?

Hhdxx · 25/03/2020 14:57

@professorastrocat heya! I'm good today, enjoying this sunshine 🍋🍋🍋 and husband got me my lemonade even though they only had the expensive bottle left for £2.75 oopsy. How are you? Xx
