Gut feeling about gender?

Hey,

For those who have had kids did you have a gut feeling what gender they would be? Was this gut feeling right?

From the minute I found out I was pregnant I've been convinced it's a girl although I couldn't tell you why. Don't know if I'm getting my hopes up way too much

I had a gut feeling I was having a boy. I don't know whether that was because I wanted a boy. So I drummed into my head I was having a girl so I was used to the idea. Turns out it was a boy all along :)

MUMMA2BEX · 29/01/2020 13:51

@nikdan123 so you think you actually knew or was it just luck? It's honestly so strange how much I really believe it's a girl

I didn't know whether it was some sort of connection/bond already (I am aware this sounds rather silly😂)

We would have preferred a boy prior to getting pregnant but as soon as we found out we were, I was adamant it was a girl and it was! We are so happy Smile

hazandduck · 29/01/2020 13:53

Yes I did, overwhelmingly convinced I was having a boy. We didn’t find out the sex, so imagine my shock when the midwife held my ‘son’ up to me and I couldn’t locate a willy!! My exact words were “fucking hell it’s a girl!” I did have dreams I got the sex wrong though.

I am 39 weeks tomorrow with number 2, and am convinced I’m having another girl! I’ve had several dreams it’s a girl this time though.

However I cannot trust my gut instinct at all 😄

Are you going to find out the sex? If not, then just be prepared to be wrong! It took me weeks to really get my head around the fact I had a girl!

CatOnABeanbag · 29/01/2020 14:00

I had a very strong feeling with dc1, I just knew, felt it in my bones, etc...was wrong Grin

DramaAlpaca · 29/01/2020 14:02

I had a gut feeling all three times and was wrong all three times Grin

Shookethtothecore · 29/01/2020 14:02

I had absolute gut feelings with the middle one of my 3 children. I was wrong- I am so glad I found out the gender in the scan as I was Absolutley convinced. Oh have 3 children boys and girls and every pregnancy was completely different

WhatALearningCurve · 29/01/2020 14:02

Even before pregnancy I was always convinced my first child would be a boy. When I got pregnant I was even more convinced, we had a boys name picked out within weeks, couldn't even come close to agreeing on an alternative girls name.

Paid for a private scan at 17 weeks because I suddenly realised that although I wouldn't be disappointed if baby was a girl, there would be an adjustment period.

Scan confirmed I was having a boy.

(As a side note, I was also convinced that I wouldn't reach my due date and my labour would start naturally. All my friends who have babies around the same age laughed at me because they were all really overdue and induced. Waters broke a week earlier than my due date. My best friend later told me that I started to freak her out during my pregnancy with how stubborn I was about it all and then it being true - I think i'm just that stubborn I willed it into reality ha)

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/01/2020 14:02

We didn’t find out but I was sure it was a boy and was so shocked when DH told me she was a girl he had to repeat it several times Grin

Bezalelle · 29/01/2020 14:06

I am genuinely not bothered about whether it's a girl or a boy, but I have a gut feeling it's a girl, also going by when we had sex in early December when we conceived!

Quite early on, a girl' name popped into my head that we hadn't even been considering.

We'll be finding out at the anomaly scan, in any case.

CheesePleaseLoueese · 29/01/2020 14:09

I've had a strong gut feeling three times and was right the first two times and it seems i might also be right this time.. Could it be my subconscious brain picking up on slightly differing symptoms?

charlesthekudu · 29/01/2020 14:09

I was a absolutely convinced I knew what I was having. I was told by strangers that my bump looked like I was having a certain sex, someone even said I have a very 'feminine/ masculine' vibe about the bump so that also strengthened by belief. I managed through sheer conviction to also persuade my DH that we were having 'x'

I was in absolute shock that I had the opposite!

What I will say is that I never had even a slight deep down preference and I also took stock and thought about my reaction / emotion should I get the opposite sex to my gut feel. Because I could see that I didn't care either way I never botthered with a scan. If you feel like you're planting seeds and could be disappointed if your gut feel is wrong, then you should have a sex scan.

Best of luck with your pregnancy :)

shivbo2014 · 29/01/2020 14:11

Yes I felt as if I knew both times and I was right.

Jeleste · 29/01/2020 14:13

Gut feeling was right with both DC. Although with DC 2 i really wanted the opposite gender of what i already had, so that was maybe more me wishing for it that gut feeling.

MyCatScaresDogs · 29/01/2020 14:18

I knew both times (both boys), from when I found out I was pregnant. I tried to un-convince myself the second time as I would have loved a daughter and did wonder whether it might be a girl - but I was right and he was a boy!

Primrose89 · 29/01/2020 14:23

I was sure we were having a boy, couldn't tell you why, but it was such a strong gut feeling!

We had a boy!

SallyWD · 29/01/2020 14:24

Had no gut feeling with either of mine. The people I know who have had gut feelings have usually been wrong! Little boys are wonderful too! Can't believe how many times I have to say this on Mumsnet.

ClappyFlappy · 29/01/2020 14:26

I had a strong gut feeling both times, I was right once and wrong once.

MUMMA2BEX · 29/01/2020 14:30

Sounds like it's really mixed whether peoples gut were right or not!!

I've said from the start it's a girl, everyone else says they think it's a girl, midwife joked that the heartbeat sounded like a girl so i think I've basically convinced myself.

My partner really wants a boy but even he's convinced it's a girl.

I never had a preference as to what I'm having but it just feels so much like a girl that I'm not sure how il react if it's a boy!! Will obviously still be happy but will be very surreal 😂

userabcname · 29/01/2020 14:31

No gut feelings no. Also don't build your hopes too much. One of my friends was convinced she was having a girl and was very disappointed to be handed a boy in the delivery room. Another was convinced she was having a boy and was very surprised to have a girl. So gut feelings are not always accurate.

TheOrangeFox · 29/01/2020 14:35

I had a gut feeling it was a boy on the first. She was a girl.

Since then I've always instinctively known the next two were girls, probably because they were all similar pregnancies in terms of symptoms etc. Unsure if that's medically supported but it felt right!

MUMMA2BEX · 29/01/2020 14:39

I am getting a 20 weeks scan by the way so il find out soon (currently 16 weeks)

Herringbone31 · 29/01/2020 14:44

I had a dream when I was 16. That I was in hospital and a young girl of about 10 came running down the hall. Calling mummy. The dream was so visceral. I remember it clear as day to this day.

I’ve had 2 children. Both girls. One with very long dark hair. The spitting image of the girl I dreamt about some 25 years ago.....

mrssunshinexxx · 29/01/2020 15:05

@MUMMA2BEX when is your scan are you going to find out ?

Mine is next Thursday everyone that has openly guessed or given their opinion I have never asked anyone what do you think it is because it's pointless but everyrone has offered girl, the heart beat speed pointer towards the myth of a girl so everything is making me think it's a girl and I'm trying to not get hung up because I don't mind I just desperately want he or she to be healthy it will be so loved d

mrssunshinexxx · 29/01/2020 15:05

When's everyone finding out if you are before the birth ? Be interesting to see whose right or wrong x
