Anyone care to join me?
Baby boy was due New Year’s Day making me 40+2 today. I have a midwife appointment this morning where she’s hopefully gonna do a sweep - really hope it helps get things moving - I’ve scared myself googling and really don’t fancy an induction!

Good luck! The waiting bit is awful as you question every twinge. But please dont worry too mich, I had 3 sweeps before induction at 40+12 last time round, and it was fine. Pessary induction so they let me go home to 'see if anything happened' and I went into labour a few hours later! 15 hour labour (7 of those in hospital) and I managed with tens and gas and air. Like you, I read stories online but I wished I hadn't. Labour is tough however it starts, but it's so worth it the second they are in your arms!

kittycat01 · 03/01/2020 10:50

@SquigglyOne how did the appointment go? Did you have a sweep and did it hurt? I have a sweep booked for Monday and am very scared as this is my first!

SquigglyOne · 03/01/2020 11:18

@Mamabear2020 thank you for your reassuring words - it means a lot especially when people seem to love telling horror stories 🙈

@kittycat01 the appointment went well - she did the sweep and it honestly wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. Not the most pleasant experience lol - similar to a smear test really - you’ll be fine!

She said if the sweep is gonna work it’ll be within 24 hours 🤞. I’ve been offered another sweep early next week and booked in for induction on the 13th!!

@SquigglyOne good luck OP. Fingers crossed the sweep works. Keep us posted! 🤞🏻

jmacat86 · 03/01/2020 12:09

Hi @SquigglyOne I’m in exactly the same boat as you! Due 2 days ago, had sweep this morning and 2cm dilated. Got another appt next week, and a sweep then if things haven’t progressed. Induction won’t be booked until after that appt though.

Don’t know about you but baby did not like the sweep at all- kicked me in the ribs several times every time his head was tickled!

SquigglyOne · 03/01/2020 12:38

Hey @jmacat86 👋
I didn’t notice baby moving more during the sweep but midwife checked his heart rate before and after and it had definitely increased afterwards! It must be a really weird feeling for them being poked in the head 😂😂. How have you been feeling after?

I was 1.5cm dilated but cervix posterior and 1cm long so I’m not holding out a lot of hope!

jmacat86 · 03/01/2020 16:25

@SquigglyOne had some period pain like cramps earlier, now Bear is taking his revenge by being on the move constantly!

Mucus plug has come away (apologies for TMI) which I expected since there was a bit of tugging going on as well. It was only really a half sweep but has had a bit of an effect already although I won’t be surprised if I do need the second sweep.

CatRash · 03/01/2020 20:45

I was due New Year's Day too, had a sweep which they technically shouldn't have given me the day before. Apparently cervix was effaced and 1cm dilated.

Still pregnant. Had plenty of twinges and lost some of my plug but that's it. Really need to try sex but feel as sexy as an elephant seal, full of cold and my vagina is swollen.

Although I do want to avoid induction at all costs having had an induction before which wasn't pleasant.

SquigglyOne · 03/01/2020 21:38

@CatRash we DTD New Year’s Day for the first time in months and it was the most unsexy sex I’ve ever had 😂😂

I take it it’s safe to have sexy following a sweep? - may have to give it another shot 🙈🙈

OP posts:
kittycat01 · 03/01/2020 21:49

@CatRash are they not supposed to do a sweep before the due date? I have one booked in on my due date which I found weird and I kinda don't want it until I'm a little bit overdue.

SquigglyOne · 04/01/2020 09:39

So other than a few minor twinges yesterday’s sweep has done nothing for me 😩 - I’ve also been walking on the treadmill and had a spicy curry last night.

Any luck for you? @jmacat86?

jmacat86 · 04/01/2020 11:05

@SquigglyOne nothing here either, although I’m glad because OH is away until late afternoon! Been on the bouncy ball all morning and going out for curry tonight with our NCT group.

I still won’t be surprised if he decides to wait a week before making an appearance, seems far too cosy in there!

KB191 · 04/01/2020 19:02

@SquigglyOne how are you now? Due date today just had sweep and she’s left me with aromatherapy oils to help stimulate the uterus (apparently) really crampy now! Cervix about 1cm but soft, and 1-2cm dilated, told me to get on the birthing ball and get Hubby to massage me with the aromatherapy oils, I’m hoping it’s not too much longer, DD was born on her due date and I’m so much more uncomfortable with this baby!

SquigglyOne · 04/01/2020 19:40

Hello @KB191 😊
Feeling pretty fed up tbh - think my problem is I’m just sat around waiting for something to happen - really need to occupy my mind with something else!
Let us know if the sweep works for you! Do you know if you’re having another girl or a boy?

OP posts:
KB191 · 04/01/2020 19:50

We kept it a surprise. Feeling fed up too, I know it’s only just my due date today but I don’t want to go out incase it happens. DD was a fast labour (2cm-birth in 4 hours) they said this one could be faster so I don’t want to venture too far away from the hospital as would need childcare 🙄 do you know what you’re having?

SquigglyOne · 04/01/2020 20:12

Oh wow that is fast! I can understand why you don’t want to go out!
We’re having a boy 💙 first baby so literally no idea what to expect!

@SquigglyOne @jmacat86 @kittycat01 any news? Ive had some cramps and niggles this morning but sat bouncing on my ball anxiously waiting for it to start whilst sniffing my aromatherapy oils 😂

SquigglyOne · 05/01/2020 15:22

@KB191 no news here! Took the dog for a long walk this morning but still nothing!!

OP posts:
KB191 · 05/01/2020 15:32

Wow I’m impressed! I have struggled to walk for about a week now! Hopefully that gets things ticking along for you 🤞🏻 I hate this waiting game 🙈

kittycat01 · 05/01/2020 18:44

Nothing here. I'm bored, fed up and teary. I dread weekdays at the moment when DH is at work and I'm on my own at home just waiting...

CatRash · 05/01/2020 19:01

@kittycat01 Well she seemed to be a stickler for the rules - apparently first timers can have a sweep at 40 weeks but second+ timers not until 41 weeks. No idea why?! Think a lot of it depends on your local trust and which midwife you see.

I'm still pregnant but feeling ok about it. Don't want to be induced in the slightest but happy for baby to come in a week or so.

KB191 · 05/01/2020 19:44

@CatRash How strange, this is my second and they gave me a sweep yesterday on my due date. Hope you get one soon or little one makes an arrival for you 🤞🏻

CatRash · 05/01/2020 20:36

@KB191 She did rather reluctantly give me one at 39+6 but other than a few twinges and losing a bit of mucus plug it hasn't bought in labour. I'm assuming they'll do another at 40+6 when I'm next in.

How are you feeling after your sweep?

KB191 · 05/01/2020 21:00

@CatRash hasn’t done anything and the cramping has worn off now 😣 I’m having another sweep on Friday (will be 40+6) and if nothing happens they’re booking me in for an induction week on Thursday but hopefully will be here before that! Wouldn’t want an induction as I’ve heard they can be more painful - and I’m a wimp!

SquigglyOne · 05/01/2020 21:08

Know how you feel @kittycat01 being home alone waiting is the worst 😩

I’m gonna try and tell myself that baby won’t be here until induction on 13th and then if he does come sooner it’s a bonus - probably won’t work though 😂
