Anyone care to join me?
Baby boy was due New Year’s Day making me 40+2 today. I have a midwife appointment this morning where she’s hopefully gonna do a sweep - really hope it helps get things moving - I’ve scared myself googling and really don’t fancy an induction!

How’s everyone feeling this morning?

I’ve got my second sweep booked in for this afternoon - wish me luck!!

Still here, still pregnant and waiting! A few twinges yesterday and thought that might be the start but nothing more this morning.

I have my second sweep on Wednesday so I’m hoping either things start moving then or before then. Really want to avoid being induced.

Hope everything goes well this afternoon

KB191 · 06/01/2020 08:51

I’m at home too on my own from today, my mum works 45 minutes away thankfully hubby only a few minutes away if I need him.

@SquigglyOne Good luck with your sweep! I’m feeling ok, few cramps here and there. I’m telling myself nothing is going to happen until like 16th (when they would induce me) so like you if anything happens before it’s a bonus! Can’t believe none of us have had our babies yet! X

SquigglyOne · 06/01/2020 09:05

At least one of us has got to go into labour soon surely?! 😂

I'm due on 21st January and feeling really deflated. I had a growth scan last week and everything was fine, was told baby was 'very low' but I've not seen my midwife since 23rd Dec, I don't see her now until a week today and I feel like I'm left alone in this a little bit. I have really bad SPD and have been talking to my midwife about it since about 18 weeks but she's never given me much support, I was told I was referred for physio but never heard anything as expected really with the NHS being so swamped but I would have thought I'd be able to see my midwife more regularly now we're approaching the end. I'm really struggling and I'm in two minds to ask for an induction, daily life is more than difficult and I spend most days crying in pain but if I can't even see her sooner than 39 weeks, what is the point 😞

shutupsteph · 06/01/2020 09:11

I also know that it's really hard for you ladies that are past your due date and I'm not trying to say that I'm in a worse position, I just wish my midwife was more available to give me support and talk about my options instead of just being left to it, especially when I can barely make it up the stairs now for pain let alone anything else 😭

jmacat86 · 06/01/2020 09:21

@shutupsteph that’s really rubbish - about the SPD and the midwife. Have you got a phone number for her? Or even phone your GP and explain the situation. Say you’ve been referred for physio but you can’t wait any longer. If your midwife works as part of a team you might be able to bend the ear of another member who could get things moving for you.

The other option (if it’s possible) would be to go private for physio- you shouldn’t have to but you will get seen quicker. There are a couple of physios near me who offer the Mummy MOT for before and after the baby is born. I know a couple of people who have really made use of this and it’s been really helpful for them.

shutupsteph · 06/01/2020 09:29

@jmacat86 i haven't even got a phone number! she is the only midwife, she only works two days a week and whenever i've asked for her number she's told me to call the gp she works from and she'll get back to me 'in about a week' - she's absolutely lovely but i just feel very alone in this. i've mentioned it at every appointment and it's always met with 'there's nothing i can do, you're on the list for physio but don't hold your breath, let me know if it's getting worse' and when i mention it again, that it is getting worse, i get told the same thing.

to be fair to the midwife i've mentioned it to consultants at the hospital when i've had growth scans and they brush it off too, the problem is i see a different consultant every time, each telling me differing things (one said i would be induced at 40 weeks, they wouldn't 'allow' me to go over but couldn't give me a reason as to why, yet the last one i saw said they're happy for me to go 12 days over? what are they doing!) and i've never seen any of them make notes on my pain or suggest anything that can help.

SquigglyOne · 07/01/2020 14:39

So - at my second sweep appointment yesterday the midwife said I was 2-3cm dilated, babies head is really low down and she was able to “give me a really good sweep” - all things that got my hopes up that something might happen - but nothing!!

Feeling really really fed up and teary today - I know I’m being silly getting myself worked up but I just feel so frustrated. My SIL had her baby by c section last week. The constant photos on our family group chat and stream of texts asking if I’ve gone into labour yet are really not helping - I know that makes me sound like a bitch 😩

Any news from anyone else? Xx

Hi everyone glad to find a thread like with others in the same boat so hope you don't mind me joining.

I'm currently 3 days overdue, had 3 unsuccessful sweeps so far and booked in for induction with diapram (think that's what it was called)? on Sunday when I'll be 40+6. I'm really in 2 minds about whether to go ahead with it, hoping baby will make an appearance before then but seems unlikely with every day that passes!

I wanted a water birth and chances of this seem to be slim now.

Hope others are having more success than me currently Smile

kittycat01 · 09/01/2020 16:50

@Ticklemeelmo welcome! Were you due on Monday? Me too! I didn't have a sweep in the end and I'm having my first sweep this coming Monday. I've then been told I'll be induced around Friday/Saturday next week if no appearance. They were talking about inducing me with a catheter that they inflate into your cervix? Sounds horrific!

Ticklemeelmo · 09/01/2020 17:35

@kittycat01 thank you! :) yes I was due Monday too, pretty sure the awful sounding balloon thing is what I'd be getting 🙈

Will you have several sweeps before induction? Next Friday/ Sat definitely gives you a good chance at going into labour before.

I've had a few episodes of reduced movement through the pregnancy and am also older (39) so thought induction sooner might be safest- though there are apparently signs have been that my cervix is starting to soften (tmi sorry) so wondering whether to wait a few days and give the baby a chance to come naturally. Policy where I live is to induce at 40+10 so guess on the other hand it's only 4 days early. Tricky to know what to do!

KB191 · 09/01/2020 17:41

I was due on Saturday and had a little girl on Tuesday evening! Contractions stalled after 8 hours, they gave me another sweep and things progressed quick! Fingers crossed you all have your babas soon 🤞🏻 X

SquigglyOne · 09/01/2020 18:40

Congratulations 🥳 @KB191and welcome @Ticklemeelmo 👋
Still pregnant here - now 40+8 😩 hopefully going to have a third and final sweep tomorrow - if that doesn’t work looks like it’ll be induction on Monday!

OP posts:
Ticklemeelmo · 09/01/2020 20:39

@KB191 congratulations to you!
@SquigglyOne fingers crossed the sweep is successful 🤞🏻

SquigglyOne · 10/01/2020 10:05

Third sweep completed this morning - midwife said I was very favourable and can’t really see why i haven’t gone into labour yet! So frustrating!! Babies head low - 3cm dilated.

Anyone have any news? Xx

Still waiting here @SquigglyOne getting really impatient now. Second sweep was on Wednesday- outer part of cervix more open, inner part still closed Angry so have been doing lots of walking. Thought I was getting there yesterday with contractions but they seem to have stopped overnight. Very frustrating as I really don’t want an induction!

SquigglyOne · 11/01/2020 11:18

Looks like my third sweep hasn’t done anything for me 😩 I’ve pretty much accepted it’s going to be induction on Monday! I’m hoping as I’m already 3cm dilated I’ll be able to skip the pessary stage
and have waters broken straight away 🤞

Any more news @jmacat86 have you been given an induction date?

OP posts:
jmacat86 · 11/01/2020 14:33

@SquigglyOne induction on Monday, I’m hoping that all they have to do is break the waters- if all the contractions I’ve been having haven’t done anything I’ll be really annoyed! Little man seems to want to wriggle his way out, which would be fine if there wasn’t a barrier in the way.

I’ve found celery (!) has been quite good for bringing in the stronger contractions but did have to resort to walking up and down stairs sideways and doing squats this morning. Desperate times and all that...Confused

KB191 · 11/01/2020 16:17

@jmacat86 @SquigglyOne I have my fingers crossed for you both! Have either of you tried aromatherapy oils? I know the ones they said to me were clary sage and jasmine, it did do something to me 😂 might be worth asking your MWs? Still time for your bodies to do their thing though! 💝 I have my fingers crossed for you! In the meantime, treasure the sleep! 😂 x

Ticklemeelmo · 12/01/2020 15:58

Good luck to those having inductions tomorrow! Hope all goes well for you.

I had a sweep today, had bleeding and cramping after which got my hopes up that it may have kickstarted something- had paracetamol and a nap and it now seems to have stopped sadly.

kittycat01 · 13/01/2020 11:47

Sweep today. So scared and nervous

CatRash · 14/01/2020 14:59

Sorry for slow reply!! I went into labour on the 8th and had her just after midnight (so on the 9th). All fairly straightforward and was in and out within 24 hours. Bit of 2nd tearing which I'm still paying for.

Hope the inductions go well / have gone well @SquigglyOne and @jmacat86. Hope those having sweeps have kicked things off.

kittycat01 · 19/01/2020 13:37

Still overdue...
